Illustrator CS5 Mac is slow to save and open.
My OS ism Lion with 500Gigs free space. Recently Illustrator has slowed down and is almost unuseable, I have re installed my system and Illustrator but the problem is still occuring. Anything else I can check?
I have researched this extensively. it seems to be a bug that has been around since CS2 and OSX 10.3 or 10.2?. We have about 10 artists here and they all have the problem - our losses to this problem are easily in some multiple of $10,000 per year . Our programers have made cron jobs, applescripts, everything to fight it. As you know, it can take any machine, no matter how powerfull and reduce it to nothing. No upgrade can remove the problem, we have some top of the line SSD'd i7's and they still sit for a few minutes to open a illy file with nothing in it.
nothing fixes it, except one thing....
Do not have your computer on a network. Pull out the ethernet cord and turn off wifi and the problem will NEVER creep in. Once its on the network, the problem will enevitably start snowballing. But in a commerical or personal enviroment - the not network solution next to impossible.
Adobe recommends not using a server/network to solve this problem, which is funny thier flagship products do not support servers or networks. (photoshop has the same problem as well)
Our running theory is that its part of the interconnectivity between adobe applications and the version control software and bridge. But even if you do not install them the problem still occurs, its like Illy and PS try to intereact even if the connectivity apps are not there.
I hope that maybe the next build of Illustrtor which supposibly will be a 64 bit rebuild will address this. But i have said that since CS2

Illustrator CS5 Not the Default for EPS and other Vector Formats
Hey everyone, the issue I'm haveing is not just with Illustrator, but sense I couldnt find a general CS5 forum, and Illustrator was the last CS5 application i noticed this for I'm hoping to find some answers here.
So on to the issue....
I have noticed that on other computers (Macs for sure) that Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver etc... are set as the default handlers of certain file types that are associated with each application, and as such, give each filetype there own little icons reflecting such.
However on my system (Windows 7 Ultimate x64) this does not seem to be the case. I can go in and set them as default manually, which I have done for the filetypes I use most frequently, but I do not get to enjoy the nice icons that made for each filetype, i just get a bland, default icon that is the same for every filetype.
Is there a way to fix this issue?
Thanks for you help.Yes, I think i mentioned it before that I knew I could set the default app through Explorer (right clicking, going to "open with" etc..) but this doesn't let you use any of the custom icons that come with the adobe applications, it sets it as the default icon associated witht he particular application. I'll take a look in the properties when I get home but, but I think you may be referring to the "open with" dialogue.
Most applications like Firefox, iTunes etc.. have a button in there preferences menu to "set as default" for all file types they can open, however I don't see such an option in any Adobe applications except for bridge, and that doesn't seem to do anything.

I believe in the properties pane for one of those files it will display the default app for opening such files and you can change it there as well and make it apply to all similar files.

I have downloaded and installed the latest version of numbers on my mac. Everytime I save and then try to reopen that document, I receive a message telling me that I need a new version of numbers. Also, when I try to sort the date column, it sorts out of order. The last version sorted fine.
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
When you install the new iWork version, the old iWork version is kept, so it looks like you are opening your old version.
To fix this, open a Finder window, choose Applications in the sidebar and drag the new Numbers version to the Dock, so you can access to it quickly. Open all documents from this version. I don't recommend you to delete the old Numbers version in case you need it.
Respecting to the second question, you will get better answers in the Numbers for OS X forum -
Hi, I was working on a PDF writing comments using Adobe Reader on a Mac. I clicked save and got a 'cannot save' message. I then clicked save as instead, Reader froze and my PDF disappeared. The only version saved has only my first comment. Does Adobe Reader save to temporary files that I can access in order to recover my work? Is there any other way to recover it? Thanks!
Hi @Pat Willener,
since I got the same problem as pdfprincess I hope you can help me. The 'Automatically save document changes to temporary file...' is enabled in my adobe reader.
A file I worked (commented) on a lot crashed. When I reopened the file, adobe reader didn't ask if I want to restore my changes in this file, as it is written on the help.adobe.com page. Is there any possibility to restore the changes manually from the temporary file?
Thanks in advance - it is really important for me to restore these changes!! -
can someone please guide me to find my fonts...using Windows 7 and all are in my font folder in control panel and were just fine in CS5 but when i just upgraded from Illustrator cs5 to cs6 WIN (not cloud) and all my fonts did not transfer..only have Myriad. thanks
To confirm, al songs are already in your iTunes library of current computer, and they all play using iTunes (on the computer)?
And you are saying all the songs you purchased from the iTunes Store can be synced to the nano without any problems? But NONE of the other songs (that are NOT from the iTunes Store) can be synced to the nano, or SOME of them? -

And when I save the file as "Illustrator ver.8 format", the file is saved well.
This is the error message I have.

InDesign CS5 (Mac OS 10.6) can not open its own file
I need guidance to open an artwork file that in one hour I have to send to the print shop. InDesign refuses to open its own file.
Any clue? Adobe, please help.Re: InDesign CS5 (Mac OS 10.6) can not open its own file
Bob and Peter
Thank your for helping us out. It was really necessary to ask a coworker to open the file and export it in InDesign markup language.
Three hours later than expected, but it's done!
We are stuck here. I'm a Master Collection user of CS5, using only Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Bridge and Acrobat Pro. (I don't know why I bought the Master's). My coleague former Window user, got a Mac in May and downloaded the trial version of Design Studio Standard Collection of CS5.5. Before expiring, we purchased its license and filled it in the active trial version.
A couple of months ago we noticed that were missed Plug Ins on his version and contacted Adobe who instructed us to download the whole files again. We never did because it is a pain to get rid of the missing parts of a pre installed trial version etc.
I will ask Adobe to send a CD disk for his version.

Can I save and open an attachemnt at the same time?
I want to be able to open an email with an attachement or attachments and click on the save button for the attachment(s), designate the location (folder) where they are to be saved - but also tell Mail to save the attachments then open them up on the desktop. Two operations in one. If you understand my request you understand what you have to do now - two separate steps. Save. Then find the saved files and open them.
OR
Open the attachment from the email which then downloads the file to your designated "all-purpose" location (not the ultimate location you'd want to save it). Then once you've seen it, you do the save thing with the original mail attachment and then have to go back and delete the file from the designated all-purpose download location.
This latter problem of having to delete unedited downloads manually could be solved with an option in Mail preferences to automatically delete unedited downloads in the "all-purpose" location after that same attachment had been downloaded to another specific location on your hard drive. This option for deleting unedited downloads does not exist, however.
But even if this step-saver option existed in the preferences, you still would not be able to tell your Mac to save a particular Mail email attachment to a particular folder AND open that attachment at the same time in one command.
That's what I want.
Maybe I want both. Save and open together plus the ability to automatically delete unedited attachment downloads in the "all-purpose" download file after the same attachment has been downloaded to another specific location on your hard drive.with IOS 6 yes you will be able to do that

0x34da000 - 0x34fefThanks for the reply. I tried each solution on the fonts troubleshooting page you sent.
It seemed to correct the problem temporarily.
But I still get crashes when I try to open and save.
Seems photoshop only crashes when I open a file in column view and it tries to "preview" the file I want to open, if that makes sense.
I might add, these are fairly large files, 3+GB each.
I guess I could just take it off column view.
Thanks. -

In my report there is a column link which is pointing to another HTML page that has xml data displayed in a textarea field. So when user clicks on the column link, he gets to directed to the page that have the xml data in text format.
My question is, how can i make the xml data display as a file, so when the user clicks on the column link, a window with "save" and "open" will pop up so the user can save the xml data as a file?
Has anyone done something similar like this? any help is appreciated!

Is there a simple way to save and open attachments?
When I save an attachment in mail, I have to hit save, navigate to the place to save, say OK, then to open it, I have to open a finder window, navigate (again) to the place, and open it. Because we have a very deep directory structure on our corporate drive, it takes like 20 seconds to do this every time I want to save an attachment. Isn't there an easier way to do this?
SUGGESTION TO APPLE: why not put a button on the Save dialog that says "Save and Open".Just click on the attachment to open it, then if it's worth saving, press Save As...
In the save window, you will see a list of recent places and if your lucky, one shows up that is on the mark and you can select it directly. -
How to save and open Text/csv file over APS
Hi,
I want to save(and open later) data from database block in text/csv file format over Application server, I did a lot of search here on Forms but didn't found a reasonable solution, Some one plz help me.
Thanks and Regards, Khawar. As long as you are using the Report Generation Toolkit, there is no need to use ActiveX for the purpose of saving the Excel file -- Save Report will do that for you. You can then export (as text) all of the Excel data and use the Write Spreadsheet File to make the .CSV file. Here is how I would rewrite the final bits of your code --
I cleaned up the wires around Excel Easy Table a bit. You'll see I made a VI Icon for Replace Filename, which does (I think) a nicer job of self-documenting than showing its Label. To make the filename, add the correct extension (.xlsx for Excel, .csv for CSV), use Build Path to combine Folder and Filename, and wire to Save Report.
The next two functions add the Extract Everything and Write to Spreadsheet, using a Comma as a separator, which makes a CSV copy for you.

Hi, I'm having trouble saving the documents when merging in Preview. I don't have any problems merging the pdf documents by dragging them in preview, but when I try to save and open afterwards, only the last shown doc was saved, not the combined files I wanted to merge. I've tried save and export, but none merge the documents after saving... how can I create the file (with all the pdf files) after merging?
That's a comment in the file. It has no effect at all.

I cannot control the sensor on my Mac, it moves by itself, and opens different pages. What can cause this problem? please help me.
There are several possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps until it's resolved.
1. Follow the instructions in this support article.
2. Reset the System Management Controller.
3. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
4. A swollen battery in a MacBook Pro or Air can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced.
5. There's a report that a (possibly defective) Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter can cause the built in trackpad of a MacBook to behave erratically. If you're using such an adapter, disconnect it and test.
6. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
7. If none of the above applies, or if you have good reason to think your computer is being controlled remotely, remove it from the network by turning off Wi-Fi, disconnecting from a Bluetooth network link, and unplugging the Ethernet cable or USB modem, whichever is applicable. If the cursor movements stop immediately, you should suspect an intrusion.

HT1386 How do you manually add a song to an iPhone/iPod in iTunes 11.02?
Earlier versions of iTunes allowed us to drag/drop similar to how the Playlist section is still set up. This was very easy and intuitive. I do not want to synch the whole library, but now there is not an option for manually updating individual songs
