Illustrator cs5 on windows 7 64bit SLOW and non responding.

OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
System Type x64-based PC
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU       Q 720  @ 1.60GHz, 1600 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 6.00 GB
I am in the midst of a 7-day free trial at Lynda.com learning Illustrator.  My illustrator is so slow to respond open, save, any work in it.  Any minor change takes such a long time to process (including changing a fill color.....change C to 50, wait wait wait wait, then I can change y to 50 , wait wait wait wait ten I can change next color.)
Impossible to work with
What can I do?

I realise this post is a little old, but for those that stumble apon this looking for solutions or ideas for fixes here's my 2 cents,
I'm experiencing the same issues as described. I've tried a host of other fixes related to fonts, clearing AI cache, booting into safe mode to test, etc. So far the only thing that has brought AI back from comatose mode is turning off explorer. In Windows Task Manager, go to processes find explorer.exe and end task. WARNING: this will disable you Windows "window" interface as well as the windows startbar. You will need to use a third party dock software to easily navigate and use your PC. To turn explorer back on go to the applications window of the task manager (hit Ctrl + Alt + Del) click New Task and type "explorer.exe" in the "open" box and click OK. Please note that this suggestion is not a permanent fix but a work around for desparate times and perhaps a lead on a fix for someone trying to get to the bottom of this annoying issue.

  • I have had problems with slow and non-responding Internet using Safari.

While my Windows-based laptop and iPhone access the Internet fine, we are having difficulties with our iMac accessing the Internet and, if we do get on, it is extremely slow.

If you mean movies you have exported from iMovie HD, those can be imported easily. If you mean iMovie HD projects opening in iMovie '11, I don't see many people have much success with that.

I tried to update the latest software update for my MacBook pro (which was on 10/12) and after it started to update it restarted like normal but when it started back up it was running painfully slow and none oft programs will open. They all quit unexpectedly. iTunes microsoft word all of them quit unexpectedly. Help!

Exact same problem with my 2010 MBP 2.4ghz 4gb ram 10.6.8. iTunes said update was needed, Software Update ran with various updates including a security update, truthfully didn't pay much attention, I always install the Apple updates. After the restart it took 3-4 times longer than normal to get to the login screen, same to get to the desktop but I'm familiar with that occurring on update restarts. Unfortunately it got worse from there. Performed a full shutdown and startup. Same long boot.  After the desktop finally loads every mouse button press received a 2 minute beachball. I use menu-meters and both processors are under 10%. Waited a few minutes for disk utilities to launch, repair permissions estimates 3 hours for a typical <10 minute process. Activity monitor shows nothing over 10% CPU most of the time however ReportCrash pops to the top often. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. BTW zero problems until this update.

3)Write down your present DNS Server Number
    4) Add the following Public DNS Numbers

    208.67.220.220
    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4
    5) add back to the end of the list your original DNS Server Number
    6) Hit "OK" and Apply.
    7) Enjoy the new speed of Safari 5.0
Hope this works for you, It did for me!

splendid! i've been so frustrated with safari 5's slowness and failure to completely load pages w/o a refresh each time. i had read about using opendns' and google's dnses (the ones listed in the tip) but never thought to apply them directly in network settings till now, as i had already entered them in my gateway/router (or whatever you call that device that hooks me up to the web). it really does make a world of difference! great tip!

  • Illustrator CS5 is running very slow

I've recently upgraded to Illustrator CS5.1 on Lion OSX [version 10.7.2]. It was running fine for the first few days, but recently it's been operating painfully slow. Every time I want to do pretty much any action, from selecting to ink dropping, it takes a few seconds to process, getting the spinning colorwheel for a couple seconds every time. I'm running on 6GB of RAM, and I've tried some of the optimizing tricks like closing the appearance window, and running only Illustrator with the one file window open, but nothing's working. It's so difficult to get any work done this way, I would appreciate any help!
    Mac Pro HD
    Processor: 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory: 6 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM

The two most common time thiefs are a runaway task and Disk Re-trys. Loss of RAM modules can also be a problem.
About this Mac > ( More Info ) > Memory ... is all your RAM present? Status "OK" ??
Activity monitor > all tasks, Hiereracrchically, click on %-CPU column to sort highest use to the top. At idle, nothing should consistently use more than a few percent.
Run Disk Utility. Select your Physical Boot Drive. Check the SMART status in the lower right of the screen.
Verify Disk will give you some idea whether your disk is working, but is not exhaustive -- it mostly checks the Directory areas.

  • PE13 on Windows 8.1 and non-admin or UAC issues?

Before I try to evaluate Premiere Elements 13 64-bit, I want to ask if lingering problems related to UAC and non-admin user accounts were resolved since version 11.
It's good to see a 64-bit version of Elements come out since then.

    Gordon Fecyk
On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running? For now I will assume Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
Not sure what you mean by:
It's good to see a 64-bit version of Elements come out since then.
assume you mean version 11. So in that case....
Premiere Elements Windows 10, 11, 12, and 13 are 64 bit applications when installed and run on specifically on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit. Other Windows versions are 32 bit applications in 32 bit system or 32 bit application running in the 32 bit compatibility mode of 64 bit system. On the Mac side of things,  it is my recollection that Premiere Elements 11 Mac was the first to be a 64 bit application when run on Mac 64 bit system.
It is my understanding that nothing has changed over the versions with regard to Premiere Elements and the matter of "UAC and non-admin accounts". Probably Microsoft would be a good source on that. Recent threads seem to suggest that Premiere Elements is not working with Domain accounts.
This is not Adobe. Rather a user to user forum. If you want to contact Adobe about your feature requests, you could consider the Adobe Feature Request Bug Report Form.

When you have specific problems with aspects of your Premiere Elements 13 purchased or tryout, we would be glad for the opportunity to be of assistance. Definitely recommend tryout before purchase to assure the compatibility of your program with your specific computer environment and your project goals.

  • Computer slow and not responding since installation of new iTunes update

    Good Morning,
I downloaded the new iTunes update two days ago.  As soon as I did it my computer was freezing up and none of my programs would respond.  I uninstalled it as my computer was working fine.  I did the update again and the same thing happened.  So this time I uninstalled iTunes only, not Quick Time and my computer is fine.  Is there anyway I can get a link to download the previous version?  I can not do a system restore because my compute does not have one for some reason.  I have tried that.
Also my computer's CPU usage runs normally at anywhere from 4% to 12%, both times after I did the update, it was running at 100% all the time.  I could not shut it off or close any programs.
    Does anybody have any ideas?
    Thank you for your time.

Many thanks Matt - when I spoke to my son last night he did say the anti-virus programme might be the cause, so he told me how to re-install the old Thunderbird version which worked, and to tick the option which says 'allow me to choose whether to install new versions'. So far so good! Very grateful for your help - thanks.

  • EPM on solaris very slow and stops responding

    Hi,
We installed EPM 11.1.2.2 using a single Managed server (EPMServer0) on Solaris with 32Gig memory and use the start.sh script to start all components.
The applications runs fine initially but after second day it starts to slow down and then hangs. Even couldn't login after that. So we restart EPM and things back to acceptable performance.
We did install OHS on top WebLogic, with EssBase, Planning, Reporting and Analysis, etc.
In Solaris we notice the memory using by EPM grows to around 6Gig.
Didn't modify an weblogic heap size. Noticed when issue ps -ef two java processes:
    /u01/oracle/Middleware/jdk160_29/bin/sparcv9/java -server -Xms256m -Xmx512m
    /u01/oracle/Middleware/EPMSystem11R1/../jdk160_29/bin/java -Xms128m -Xmx768m
Tried to trace how start.sh starts the processes and it might using the following script to set the java options:
    ./user_projects/epmsystem1/bin/deploymentScripts/setCustomParamsEPMServer.sh
    This has -Xms128m -Xmx8160m -d64 -XX:PermSize=64m (and many others)
Sure there are also setDomainEnv.sh and commEnv.sh but I don't see they are used with the start.sh script.
Appreciate suggestions on how to resolve this critical performance issue.
    Thanks

Thank you. Everything is back to speed, except for backing up a catalog to a DVD. That's still extremely slow and then it stops. It also doesn't let me sign in even with a new password. Could Elements be corrupted? If it is can I uninstall it and reinstall it, and if I do will I lose the photos in my catalogs?
Another thought. Since everything else seems to be OK, could the problem be with my disc drive?

  • Wits End!  I'm running Adobe cs5 with Windows 7 - Bridge and Raw are Crazy slow!

Everything has been running beautifully, then it all went horribly wrong.  Bridge comes up fine, then I right click on an image to open it in raw and the spinner starts and spins for 3-5 minutes.  I finally get the image open in raw, make my adjustments and click to open in photoshop.  Then I have to walk away.  another 5-10 minutes.  Crying won't help so I'm coming to you!
I've uninstalled and reinstalled cs5, I've defragged and disc cleaned, updated windows, downloaded the latest bridge update (but not sure how to tell if it's installed in the right place?  does it do that automatically?), I have 852 gb of free space on my hard drive of a poss 916.
I've tried to think of what may have changed?  Could an automatic windows 7 update have caused the problem?  I recently added another external hard drive (Seagate GoFlex - I now have 2)
This is my busy season and I can't afford to have this down time - 2 days of trying to fix the problem.
    Anyone have any solutions please?
    thanks!

I Have resolved it, but not really sure How I did it!  lol
I did the upgrades.  Removed and reloaded CS5, but don't use the 64 bit
version...I think that was what I somehow got onto before.
The latest update didn't Cause the issue for me because I hadn't downloaded
    it yet.
I also, did a major defrag and disc cleanup.
    Good luck!

  • Closing Illustrator CS5 in Windows 7

I recently installed my copy of Illustrator from the Web Premium Package on a new computer on which Windows 7 Pro 64bit is the OS.  I have no problen with the program until I exit it.  I close the proigram by going to File > Exit, as one would normally do.  After the window had disappered a message comes up on my desktop the there is a problem with Illustrator and its looking for the problem, whether or not it finds it, I have no idea, but then I get the message that its reporting the behavior to Microsoft.
Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can correct this behavior?  I'll live with it if I have to, but I'd like to correct it if I can.
Thank you in advance for any assitance you can lend me.

Bummer. Are you using an administrator account when you log in? If not, try logging in as an administrator and see what happens. And, if you are not logged in as an admin, you might want to redo the steps above.
If that has been done or doesn't work, I personally would likely deactivate the installation, uninstall and reboot. Log in as an administrator and reinstall. Still opting to run the install as an admin as above.
    Checking the present user privs.
Your preferences are  kept in the appdata folder. Make sure you are logged in as an administrator.
Click on the Start menu. type the following in the  search box anf then hit enter: %appdata%
That will open an instance of Windows Explorer with a list of all the folders available. At the top is Adobe. Inside the Adobe folder you will see  one for Illustrator. Well, you might see two of them. The one that is likely active is the 5.1 folder.
Right-click on the folder. Select Properties. You'll see some tabs along the top of the dialog box. Select the Security tab. Look at the list containing "Group or user names" you will see. Among the others, you should see System, your logged in account name,  one that makes little sense, and a Group name. See those?
    Take care, Mike

  • Is there any way to use Illustrator (CS5) with Windows 8.1?

I'm in the middle of installing CS5 Design Premium on new machine (Win8.1) and see error beside Illustrator that the system requirements are not met.  Windows help site suggests CS5 and Win8.1 are compatible.  Surely there is some way to make these work together like the rest of my creative suite...?

Without exact system info we cannot know. There could be any number of reasons why it thinks it isn't compatible and generic "It's Windows 8.1" don't help.

  • Trying to install Illustrator CS3 on Windows 8.1 and get error message-installer database is corrupt

When I try to install Illustrator CS3 on a windows 8.1 machine and get the following error message. " Installer database is corrupt". Have tried rebooting computer etc. and still the same problem, any suggestions?

BrianDany I am sorry you are facing difficulties installing Creative Suite 3 under Windows 8.1.  Windows 8.1 was not available during the time period which Creative Suite 3 was developed and the last updates released.
I would recommend reviewing your PDApp.log and possibly AMT3lib.log file for error messages which are preventing the installation.  You can find details on how to locate and interpret the log files at Troubleshoot installation with install logs | CS3, CS4.  You are welcome to post any specific error messages which you discover to this discussion.

  • Removing MacPorts fixed a lot of OS slowness and non-stop disk activity

I've read quite a few, individual posts, regarding Finder slowness, slow disk access, file copies ect. My HD did not stop grinding away since I installed Leopard a few days ago. Performance was terible and inconsistent. I removed about everything non-Apple I could think of, to no avail.
I remembered I installed PortAuthority and MacPOrts and set about removing them. After a reboot the HD is finally quiet. Things are approaching normal, despite the remaining "bugs" like print problems in Safari, slow application startup times, mail inconsistencies and slow boot times. This is the kind of stuff Apple can fix in a update or two, IMO.
Still, it seems that, with all of the beta testing going on, there could have been a formal "no fly zone" compiled somewhere, prior to the GM release.
Anyhow, if anyone else is experiencing bugginess in Leopard, look at what 'nix apps you might have installed in their not so ovbvious (hidden) directories. Perhaps they are plagueing your machine's performance.
Anyhow, I hope this proves useful to someone else.
    cheers

  • Why won't illustrator Cs5 allow me to copy and paste layers when they aren't locked?

I am working on a project and when I try to copy and paste unlocked layers to paste them in to another image it doesn't paste. The only thing it pastes is the text unformatted. I tried resetting the settings by removing the setting file to see if I can set Illustrator back to square one and it isn't working. See Picture for before (copy) and After (paste)

I am also using windows 8 on a pc. I would say it was the OS but it was working fine untill yesterday. I am begging for help on this. It is really ruining my work flow today.
Thanks for any help you can give.

I just opened the document "san_jan_email.ai" and this is what i see:
i didn't try to copy and past yet, cause the document it seems fine, have you fixed it? otherwise i can say another stupid thing, i dont know if it's cause the document is too "heavy" for your computer? have you seen if you are not going out of ram or of some hard disk space? at first i could thinking about resetting the settings in Illustrator but since you just said that you already did it, and also that you tried with a CS6 copy, i think it's not that the case.
edit: i tried to copy and paste as well, for me it's working.
