Illustrator CS5 rendering Bug?

Hi All,
This is my first post in this forum.
Recently I found this shared PDF rendering bug
by both Adobe products: Illustrator CS5 and
Adobe Reader X.
Look at the attached images.
Although these screenshots are from
Adobe Reader X and Nitro PDF Reader,
these shows exactly the rendering differences
between Illustrator Cs5 and Cs4.
The same PDF file opened fine in Illustrator CS4
and 8 different PDF viewers. It does not shows
these square clipping boxes around the words
"La Tormenta".
Why Adobe changed the way its products interpret
pdf files?
If you want, you could download the pdf file:

Thanks in advance!

Hi Scott,
Just exported the file in different PDF versions
1.3 / 1.4 / 1.5 / 1.6
Tell us which version(s) does not invoke
clipping masks in your different Illustrator's
versions:

  • Color manager bug in illustrator cs5

i try to change objects colors via the color manager with a cmyk code for the new color. the color of layers i changed already changes while i'm changing the other layers. It takes 5-6 time before the right color stay. why? is it a bug? i would like to set the same color for all layers ...thanks

Confirmed this is being generated entirely in CS5. I opened the font Sabon. I created a text box. I pasted in some generic type I had just made in text edit. I changed the font to Sabon and the paragraph to justify. I saved and closed the document and closed Illustrator. I closed Sabon and opened Sabon from another foundry. I opened Illustrator and opened the document. All looked good. I duplicated the text box over and outlined the type. I went into the font manager and closed Sabon. I opened the original Sabon. DING! Type reflow. I saved as a second document. I copied the outlined type and closed the document. I opened the original document (note the original font is open). No problems. I paste the outlined type (type outlined with the wrong version of the font active) and it lands exactly in place. I open the second document. The type that reflowed now gives me the stupid message about another version of Illustrator screwing it up. I hit OK and the type reflows back to the way it is supposed to be.
This proves that the kerning changes weren't due to differences between the fonts. This proves that Illustrator CS5 has a MAJOR type engine bug that could easily spell disaster in production.

  • Illustrator CS5 Rotate Tool Anchor Point Bug

    Summary:
I can reproduce this bug consistently, every single time.  I am unable to set a new anchor point for the rotate tool in Illustrator CS5.
    Steps to reproduce the bug:
    1.  Create a new shape, doesn't matter what
    2.  Press R or just select the rotate tool
    3.  Alt-Click to pick up the anchor point and drag to a new posiiton
    4.  Let the mouse go- at this point the anchor stays locked to the cursor even if I click and am only able to unlock it from the cursor if I click on a new tool, but without getting to choose a new anchor point.
Also I tried this with a Intuos 2 tablet and pen with the same results.  I have an NVidia Quadro FX 3500 card installed with the latest driver as well.
I'm not sure if this issue is related, but also in After Effects CS5 if I press 0 to start doing a preview and then click away say on Firefox, then click back to After Effects, I am unable to click around inside After Effects to get the render to stop.  It makes me wait until the whole comp is pushed into a ram preview before it unlocks itself.
    Any ideas?

I too experience this problem and was hoping to find a solution.  I've tried reverting to early Wacom Driver versions with no success. I find that if you "break the connection" between the pen and the tablet then the rotate point will drop and the rotate dialog will appear.  I've found that this only works reliably when lifting the pen straight up off of the tablet til it loses signal. Not ideal for precision work.  You'll notice that the rotate point drops when you move over to the menus, so I'm guessing it has something to do with the "drawing area."
    My system specs for comparison.

    Windows 7 x64

  • Illustrator CS5 not responding during rendering

    Hi,
I have a strange problem that I don't understand, maybe someone can help me?
I run Illustrator CS5 on a win7 64bits / i7 / 8 Go RAM / ATI Radeon HD 5470 and each time I want to apply a simple 3D effect (3D rotation), AI is freezing during the rendering... The aim is to do a disco ball by revolution of a half circle with a map art for the disco ball faces. Everything is OK until I try to change the disco ball perspective axis! Illustrator is not responding anymore and win7 ask me for closing the program.
I have already try different issues without success:
    - change the scratch disk
    - improve the performance : closing all running applications, simplify win7 display settings (disable aero,...), clean/defrag the disk, the register and memory, define a swap up to 24 Go
    - ramdisk dedicated to readyboost, scratch disk of AI and swap
It usually freezes after 50% progression, with the optimized performance it goes sometimes until 90%...
    Thank you in advance!

You simply have too many blend steps and it's running out of memory. Expand the "More" section to control that.

  • Major font substitution bug in Illustrator CS5

    Hi all,
This took me a good long time to track down, and since I didn't find any information here and Adobe technical support was no help, I figured I'd post the result. Happy new year.
Here was the problem. Working in CS5, intermittently we would get font reflow issues. In addition, when going to edit the type boxes with font reflow, we would get the message, "This text was created in a different version of Illustrator. Editing the text may cause some changes to your text layout. Basic formatting will not be affected. Do you want to continue?" Please note it says "different version" rather than "previous version". These files originated and stayed in Ilustrator CS5! If we hit OK, the type would snap back to the original state!!! Worse, if the type was copied and pasted, or anything in character or paragraph styles was edited, it would snap back without ANY warning. Now you see it... now you don't. Major problem in any print environment.
So here is what I found, and this is a CS5 exclusive. If you are working on a file and have a font set open which includes a font from one foundry, and then opened another document and activated a font set with an identical font from a different foundry (the original font closing), the kerning for the original document (in the background now) would be set to zero (rather than auto) and the font would reflow. If you didn't notice the reflow, and saved the file, well it would create the condition as described above. Of course it isn't ideal to have the font foundry change like that, but bottom line usually you could get away with it... maybe with one or two characters moving slightly. In the new CS5 world, Illustrator decides you really don't need ANY kerning pair information and then helpfully tells you it was a "different" version of Illustrator that caused this. Heh.
What a mess. Bottom line, make sure your font management application is set to throw warnings when conflicting fonts are opened, and most importantly, leave the original font open! Do not allow the new font to be opened until the conflict is resolved.
If your font management application does not have this option (Universal Type Server 1 did not), you better upgrade or forget about using Illustrator CS5 in a heavy production environment.
Adobe, this was a major change and a major headache. You have some explaining to do...

• Bugs in scaling and alignment in Illustrator CS5

    Hi
Am experiencing weird problems with Illustrator cs5 on osx 10.6.8:
Scaling - for some reason the image get distorted after scaling. see example:
Each time I scale it'll do it differently. this time it made the right side thicker.
    Any idea why is that?
Alignment - the bounding box has offset and when aligning it doesn't align the objects right:
Any idea what I need to do to fix this?

Select a new document profile that has it turned off or create your own new document profile.

  • Why is Times New Roman not displaying correctly in Illustrator CS5?

Alright, so I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and Illustrator CS5.
Times New Roman Regular does not display correctly on my machine when using Illustrator CS5, but Bold, Italic, Italic Bold display just fine.  Times New Roman does display correctly in every other program I use.  InDesign, Word, etc.  I've attached a screenshot to show what I mean.  Please help!

    Hi,
I have an absolutely same bug - looks like font substitute
I had reinstall font family - no changes. Win 8.1 Illustrator CC.

  • Can only draw circle and square in Illustrator CS5 and Photoshop CS5

I am experiencing a strange bug that seems to be affecting both Photoshop CS5 and Illustrator CS5. In Illustrator, when I try to draw a rectangle or ellipse I can only draw circles and squares. Also I can't change the color of selected objects. When I try to change its fill nothing happens. I can also only drag objects on the 0, 45 and 90 degree angles. Also I can no longer select off an object by clicking on the artboard. When I click on the artboard nothing happens.
Similarly in Photoshop I can only draw straight lines using the brush tool. The  marquee tool is also not functioning properly. When I try to use the marquee tool the marching ants form a square but when I release the mouse it selects a rectangular portion. Strangely if I use the marquee tool and make selection I can press the shift key and add to it but this second selection's marching ants are not square but are properly rectangular.
Since the problem seems to be affecting both Illustrator and Photoshop I'm thinking it's probably some kind of system conflict or perhaps an application running in the background is affecting it. Also if I restart my mac the problem goes away. Unfortunately the problem eventually returns.
Anyway I'm pretty sure most of the suggested fixes involve systematically going through all the programs running in the background and trying to determine which if any might be affecting Illustrator and Photoshop but I just thought I'd post something in case someone else had the problem or knew of any fixes.
    I'm running CS5 on a MBP.
    Thanks!

Ok I figured out the problem. It was another application called teleport which lets you control 2 macs with one mouse. It requires a hot key and in my case that was the shift key. Even though it was running it was still affecting me. Had to quit it and restart. If you're having a similar problem I'd check to see you're not running any other applications that can be activated with a hot key.

  • Illustrator CS5 Startup Crash Win7 32bit

Illustrator CS5 crashes every time I Iaunch the applicaton after about 3 seconds of being open.
The program worked at first before I installed my pen driver, I can not update my graphics tablet / pen as there are no driver updates available.
I have tried formatting entire PC and reinstalling Adobe Master collection suite but it still crashes after application is open for a few seconds.
It is probably possible to get the program working and not use my graphics tablet but that is not the issue here the issue is getting it working without having to spend 6 hours formatting and reinstalling and get it working with my pen, my pen works fine with Corel Draw essentials.
Illustrator seems to be the only program that has this issue, I noticed if you search google you get a ton of people with illustrator crashing issues related to CS5.
Very disapointed in illustrator CS5 so far, I can posibly go back to using illustrator CS4 till they release another patch to fix more crash problems if they ever do, if anyone knows if you can uninstall CS5 illustrator out of the suite and install illustrator CS4 without that just causing a million more problems with using a single item cd key with the master suite cd key

Oh by the way I have installed the 15.0.1 latest update for illustrator and it had no effect, I have also tried running illustrator in compatability modes with no change.
The application seems to open just fine and everything for about just a few seconds, its really odd.
It has nothing to do with configuration of application or perferences or the way it was installed I doubt.
Perhaps all I can do is wait and hope I didnt waste my money with this program in hopes that adobe will fix the ****** reliability issues with illustrator CS5.

  • Illustrator CS5 just won't stay open

I have looked all over the forums and elsewhere to find a solution to this, but so far, I haven't been able to resolve it. I noticed many other people have had this problem, and it was resolved in many ways, but none of those ways worked for me. This is the trial downloaded from adobe.
    My info:
    Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit
    4 gb ram
    AMD athlon IIX2 Processor
Both Photoshop and Illustrator load and run very fast on my laptop, so performance really isn't an issue.  I've never had this problem with photoshop.
Illustrator cs5 worked fine since last night. After working on a file, I restarted and Illustrator loads and opens, but doesn't stay open. It closes about 3-5 seconds after it opens, so I can only assume it crashed without any error message.
The starting logo never completely loads all of the font list. It usually gets to about 80% and then opens and closes automatically.
    So far, i've tried:
uninstalling illustrator and reinstalling it -- did this 3 times
using the cleaning tool to completely remove cs5 and reinstall it
    deleting the illustrator profile
temporarily removing the fonts in C:/Windows/Fonts ... some fonts could not be moved due to the fact they were in use/system fonts
updating illustrator CS5 to "fix" the bugs ... it doesn't seem to improve anything
Looking in the event viewer for errors, I found this:
Faulting application name: Illustrator.exe, version: 15.0.1.399, time stamp: 0x4c57c1d9
Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000

    Faulting module path: unknown
    Report Id: 7b1d928a-dfd0-11df-ab15-705ab6e1e86d
not sure if any of that has to do with why it crashes.
nothing worked. The strange thing is, if I open an .EPS or .AI file with illustrator, illustrator will stay open as long as my mouse is over a context menu. If i'm quick enough, I can open .EPS files in illustrator and then save them as .AI files, but as soon as I close the menu, illustrator quits.
So, this is incredibly fustrating. I have to do a vector project in illustrator and obviously can't ... i've been quite desperate in trying to find other vector programs, but i'd rather not need to learn a new program when I can use one I already have.
Does anyone know how to fix illustrator and keep it open?   how do I temporarily remove all the fonts from illustrator? I am assuming that because it never completely loads the font list at startup, its a font issue. But I haven't installed or modified any new fonts lately.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

I did as you suggested and removed my prefererences and workspaces. It still closes.
Also, I do not use adobe acrobat, it isn't installed on my computer. I have no issues hovering over the menus in AI -- hovering over the menus and opening them is the only thing that keeps AI open. As soon as I take my mouse off the menu, AI closes.
The only way to keep AI open is to interact with the menus. Any dialog box keeps it open. As soon as you close the menu or dialog, AI closes as well.

  • Illustrator CS5 and Macbook Pro with Retina Display

Anyone have any word on the compatibility here? As a freelancer, Illustrator CS5 is one of my main tools. I've heard there'll be an update to Photoshop, but haven't heard anything about Illustrator.
    Thanks

I hope they update CS5 because things look pretty terrible if you ask me. Everything renders all pixely and it's dang near impossible to tell if your images look sharp or not. Essentially, everything is pixelated no matter how sharp the image is when you open it.
Retina looks like it is going to make designing for the web a nightmare. When you deal in pixels and can actually distingish pixel increments by sight on the screen, a display like this is proving to be quite counterproductive. For print and vector based graphics, etc, I think it will be a much different situation, the graphics don't look that bad in CS5 on a retina display. You can see pixelization around edges but gradients are smooth at least and the blacks are incredible.
This is going to make web design a royal pain though.

  • Font issue occurs when creating pdf file from Illustrator CS5.

I have some design files which are created in Illustrator CS5 and I made them as a pdf file using InDesign CS5 while I open the pdf file in Acrobat Pro 9  I have no issue with the file but my client is using Acrobat Pro 7 while they open the pdf file in Acrobat pro 7 junk characters(rectangular boxes) are appearing in it. Can anyone please look in to this and confirm is this a version bug or something else? It would be much appreciated if some give any idea to get rid of this issue.

Aside from the PDF version, but to follow-up to what David is getting at, you are likelythe fonts are not embedding. Because they reside on your system you see the PDF as it should be. Your client likely does not have the fonts installed.
Make sure your ID export of the document is including the fonts. If that still does not work, check to make certain the fonts you are using allow them to be embedded.
If all else fails, seeing how this PDF is for client review (I assume) have the PDF settings set to convert type to outlines. This gets you past the current dilemma as you figure out the cause.
    Take care, Mike

  • What font is used for the menu of Illustrator CS5?

What font is used for the menu of Illustrator CS5?
I know how to change the default font, which is used to input characters.
But, I do not know how to check the font used in the menu.
Is it the font that is described in the following files?
    C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS5 Settings\ja_JP\AIPrefs
If you know, please tell me how to check the configuration file and how to change the font that is used in the menu.

If your using windows xp and applied the 12.02 update, then this is a known bug in
the update effecting xp users and adobe is working on a fix.

  • Illustrator CS5.1 on Mavericks Faint Grey Tools/Crosshair Cursor

I'm hoping some one is going to advise/help me on the 3rd time of asking about the tools pallete.
I am using Illustrator CS5.1 on a iMac, I am working on 10.9 Mavericks, and now the crosshair/cursor/ various tools have almost dissappeared to a /faint grey in tint, will I have to wait for a fix from Adobe or Apple or is there something in preferences I can click to solve issue?
I Have already reported this 'Bug' via Adobe website.
Any help would be appreciated, otherwise I have to keep pressing my nose against the screen and squint my eyes to see where I am drawing and designing, it's not a pretty sight.

    Hello paul.
    Thank you for your reply.
I'm still having problems with the illustrator tools, I'm reluctant to do a clean install of Mavericks or Illustrator, but the other Creative suite applications tools have no problems, strange it is only Illustrator?
