Illustrator CS5 - Startup profiles missing and crashing on quit
Have a couple of problems with Illustrator CS5.
When opening the program a message appears, 'Can't locate startup profiles' Have tried reinstalling the software but problem persists.
When quitting out of Illustrator I get a message saying the software has crashed. I've loaded up the latest patches etc. but again the problem persists.
Anyone had the same problem and found a fix?
Turns out crashing on quit is also a permissions error. Go figure.
Shout out to Larry G. Schneider for this one:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/3132649#3132649
Also, shout out to the makers of BatChmod (http://www.macchampion.com/arbysoft/BatchMod). Sets all your permissions in one fell swoop.
When you open up Illustrator this time, Adobe magically creates a "en_US" folder within the Adobe Illustrator CS5 Settings folder that couldn't be added before.

Illustrator CS4 - Startup Profiles missing?
Just installed Creative Suite Design Premium CS4 and every time I startup Illustrator I get this error message:
"Can't locate the Startup Profiles. Please try after installing Illustrator again. Illustrator will now attempt to create a default document."
It then creates a blank document in Letter format which is a bit annoying because I live in Europe where we are used to work with A4 format. The Tools palette is also missing, even though I'm able to get the Tools via the Window menu, Illustrator forgets to show it every time I start it. There are also no default Workspaces to choose from and I can't save my own either.
I have tried to reinstall CS4 three times but it doesn't help at all.
Anyone got any ideas?I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, TRY THIS LINK BELOW

In Illustrator CS5, while file saving and opening, the PARM error shown. How to fix it.
Have you tried here:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Unknown error containing '0xE' when connecting -
Illustrator CS5 Startup Crash Win7 32bit
Illustrator CS5 crashes every time I Iaunch the applicaton after about 3 seconds of being open.
The program worked at first before I installed my pen driver, I can not update my graphics tablet / pen as there are no driver updates available.
I have tried formatting entire PC and reinstalling Adobe Master collection suite but it still crashes after application is open for a few seconds.
It is probably possible to get the program working and not use my graphics tablet but that is not the issue here the issue is getting it working without having to spend 6 hours formatting and reinstalling and get it working with my pen, my pen works fine with Corel Draw essentials.
Illustrator seems to be the only program that has this issue, I noticed if you search google you get a ton of people with illustrator crashing issues related to CS5.
Very disapointed in illustrator CS5 so far, I can posibly go back to using illustrator CS4 till they release another patch to fix more crash problems if they ever do, if anyone knows if you can uninstall CS5 illustrator out of the suite and install illustrator CS4 without that just causing a million more problems with using a single item cd key with the master suite cd key

The application seems to open just fine and everything for about just a few seconds, its really odd.
It has nothing to do with configuration of application or perferences or the way it was installed I doubt.
Perhaps all I can do is wait and hope I didnt waste my money with this program in hopes that adobe will fix the ****** reliability issues with illustrator CS5. -
Adobe Illustrator CS5 Not Remembering Last Settings & Crashing
Hello
I am using the latest version of illustrator CS5 on a MacBook Pro Intel Core Duo, the rest of my Master Collection work ok except illustrator
Firstly, when ever you quit illustrator it crashes and asks to send a crash report
Second, when you reopen and go to File > Open Recent, there are no previously worked on documents in the list
Thirdly, when i set up the units in inches for example then reopen it the next day, it goes back to milimeters??
Does anyone know how to amend this problem? Apart from that it seems to run fairly smooth
ThanksTo add to this in case your trash the settings folder and it still happens you have to right or control click on the settings folder in the preferences and go to Get Info and look for Ownership and permissions and you can change it there to read/write.
But when you do so click on the lock icon at the bottom of the Get Info window and then enter your username and password at the bottom of the Get Info there is a gear like icon with an arrow head facing down it will allow you to apply the change to all the contents in the settings folder to read/write.
To find the Settings folder
1. Quit Illustrator.
2.Go to User/username/Library/Preferences/ Adobe illustrator CS5 Settings and trash the settings folder, the whole folder not just the contents of the folder..
3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file. -
Illustrator CS5 Windows 7 64 bit crashing
I have a user using CS5 on Windows 7 64 bit he had issues with user profile. So I copied all his files to new user profile. Since than everytime he trys to open illustrator CS5 it gives message the Program has stopped working and cannot open it. He then deletes the preferences and recreates them and able to use CS5 illustrator. I have tried uninstalling and removing preferences while uninstalling. Istalled it back still the same problem. I went on you site and read through this issue one recommended to disable TabletServiceWacom which I did. If someone can let me know how to fix this issue would appreciate.
Thanks for the URL for cleaner tool. What exactly the tool does?

Illustrator CS5 Changing dot lpi and angle dialog box not opening
Hello! I am having trouble with Illustrator CS5 changing the dot lpi and angle. I have my problem typed out below the image. Please help if you can! Thank you!
You could also save yourself a lot of work by creating an ink template .ait with all of the angle/frequency values preset.
1) Simply create a new document, size the artboard to your typical size and create a series of color chips (squares) each colored with one of your typical inks. It looks like you're doing t-shirt seps so you probably have about 20 or so inks you use all the time.
2) Go into the print settings and set all of their angle and frequency values and click done.
3) Choose File->Save As Template (you can delete the color chips if you want at this point, the swatches will remain)
Now whenever you start a new document, choose File -> New From Template
Any new artwork you create can be colored with the existing swatches and you'll find the angle / frequency settings are already set.
Any forum posts links send to my twitter @ask_illustrator will be answered at the forum and via twitter. -
Illustrator CS5 Rectangle Object Measurments and Strokes
Hi Guys. I'm hoping you can help me as this is driving me absolutely nuts.
I'm running CS5.
I can't set a rectangle or rounded rectangle to have a stroke less than 1pt. When I select .25pt or .5pt it defaults back to 1pt.
I tried to set an object style with a .25pt stroke and on the rectangles it is defaulting back to 1pt again.
Similarly, with rectangles, if I set a custom width (ie - enter 6mm W) it changes to something rediculous like 5.83mm
The size boxes are not linked.
I don't have "Use preview bounds set".
I've turned off snapping.
I've never had this issue with CS through to CS4, and to repeat, is only happening on rectangles and rounded rectangles, even those created manually with the pen tool.
Any ideas? Is this a known bug?It is probably due to the "Align to Pixel Grid" - the newly introduced functionality in CS5. This property is ON by default for the Web document profile. If you want to turn OFF this property for a particular object then select the object, open the transform panel and unckeck "Align to Pixel Grid" and then set the stroke to .25 pt. If you need to this for all the object then you can use another New document profile or turn OFF the setting while creating a new Web document. This is there in the Advanced section of the New document dialog.

Flash CS5 Slow Start up and crash on Snow Leopard
Hello,
I'm using a new Mac Pro with Snow Leopard. We have Adobe MC CS5.
I'm experiencing serious problems with Flash CS5. The program locks up at "Initializing Tools" for several minutes at start up. Once the program opens it will crash if I try to create a blank document. Other Adobe programs work fine.
Flash CS4 worked fine on this computer.
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I've tried uninstalling and deleting all adobe documents from the configuration folders. It just seems like this machine is cursed or something.
I've noticed other people have had this same problem on both Mac and Windows machines. Any help from Adobe?
Thanks,
DavidI figured it out. For me the problem was my very large font library existing in both the user font folder and the system library font folder. Once I deleted the duplicate Fonts from my user library Flash returned to normal. Everything works great now.

Illustrator CS5.1 crashes when changing fonts
Hoping someone can please help!! Every time I try to change fonts in Illustrator CS5.1, without fail it crashes. I'm on a macbook pro with retina display, OSX 10.9.4 and I have tried uninstalling then reinstalling the program and downloading the Adobe patches but my computer won't accept them. I've tried deleting the Illustrator preferences as well but nothing seems to work. PLEASE HELP?!!
dezine,
In serious cases requiring reinstallation, you should also use the Cleaner Tool, see 6) below.
But it may be something with fonts/font caches, see Items 1) and 11) in the link in 5) below; these may be the most probable causes.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

Hi all,
I have installed Illustrator CS5 to a user and it crashes out as soon as it is launched. I have rectified this by giving the user local admin rights to the PC. This isn't a solution but a workaround. My question is: there is obviously some file that the user needs admin/write access to for Illustrator to work, does anybody have any ideas where Illustrator writes to on start up so I can give the user Admin/Write access to just for this folder.
Thanks in advance

At most some temporary files, but since these arte stored in the user home directory and the user and SYSTEM have full access to it, it is unlikely this would be the problem. All other files require only read operations eitehr from the user home directory or the program folder. More likely you are simply not allowing to initiate the services and they fail to read their data and Registry keys. In any case, all such things can be easily found out using Sysinternals' Process Monitor set to filter on Illustrator.exe.

ILLUSTRATOR CS5 AND INDESIGN CS5
Well...
I've been looking the new CS5 programs. It's time to change. Now, Illustrator artboards (pages) can be rearranged and named. You can paste a objet in multiple artboards and they preserve their relative location in the artboards too (imagine this feature with titles, ornaments in a long document, page numbers, etc.)
You can draw INSIDE and object. It has perspective grid (exactly like FreeHand)…
And at last, but no at least, InDesign CS5 has pages with multiple sizes.
What do you think?First off, I am a staunch advocate of FreeHand and want to see it's future continue, as a majority of users here do. So to see Illustrator CS5 merge so many cool features from FreeHand is a good thing! AI's new perspective grid, multi-sized/arranged pages, text improvements for long docs, better paste inside, etc. are all from FreeHand MX and it takes Illustrator closer to parity with it. If I had the system requirements to run this version, I would definitely upgrade as I see no conflict with having both Illustrator and FreeHand on my system.
I do have trouble with the comment, "It's time to change." I think the mistake many FreeHand (and Illustrator) users make is that one is better than the other and thus only one should exist. Even Adobe thinks this. In fact, Illustrator has strengths in its widespread feature set (much like Photoshop) whereas FreeHand has it's strength in it's speed, lightweight and intuitive interface. If I want to touch up a JPEG, do I open up Photoshop or a quick application like Preview or Cocopad? If I want to draw quick vector elements, do I open up Illustrator or the speedier FreeHand? If I am on a time limit, I know which application is best just as I know which I'd use to create 3D extrusion and realistic effects. Do you see why both serve an important purpose?
The new Illustrator CS5 is highly worthy and Sr. Mgr. David Macy deserves kudos for bringing more FreeHand features into it. He's doing the right thing. But crushing FreeHand in order to boost AI's prominance is a very poor management choice. Adobe is now crying foul over Flash being disregarded by Apple, which is the ultimate irony to the same treatment they have foisted on FreeHand, GoLive and even PageMaker users. Adobe management can't point fingers when they have been doing the same thing to their user base.
Adobe, if you're reading this, release FreeHand to open-source or sell it off (once you've gotten what you want from it). But don't sit on it all these years and expect us to feel sorry that Flash isn't being given a fair shake! You are just playing a victim to your own policies.

Very new and very green to illustrator.
Have used only once or twice since i bought it.
Unfortunately when i need to use it now - it crashes
upon starting up.
I received the following error message:
Adobe Illustrator CS5 15.0.1 Update
Installation failed. Error Code: U44M2P7
Haven't a clue what to do!
Any help and direction would be most appreciated.
g1Updates can fail due to any number of system issue. They are more prone to failing if you alter the application in any way. On the Macintosh, popular applications such as Monoligual will remove application package contents and therefore cause updates to fail.
The easiest solution is to uninstall Illustrator CS5 using the uninstaller and then reinstall Illustrator CS5, then immediatlly run the 15.0.1 update. -
Error Code: U44M2P20 when upgrading CS5, with Illustrator CS5 15.02
Recently I got the message to upgrade my Adobe Creative Suite (CS5) Production Premium. However during upgrade three components failed:
1. Extension Manager 5.5
2. Adobe Illustrator CS5 15.0.2 and
3. Pixel Bender 2.5
I got the message to upgrade these components again today and the upgrade again failed.
I then downloaded the actual upgrades and tried to manually upgrade but it again failed with error code U44M2P20
when I looked at the error code I get the note:
Error "This serial number is not for a qualifying product..." when installing an upgrade or upsell
however, I currently have Adobe Illustrator 15.0.0 and Pixle Bender toolkit 2.0 installed and working.
how can I either upgrade or stop the upgrade messages from coming up.I am getting the impression that you should be saying "update" instead of "upgrade"
If the Adobe Application Manager is involved in these messages about updates then what you can do is adjust the preferences to no longer check for updates for the troublesome program updates.
