Illustrator CS5 Windows 7 64 bit crashing

I have a user using CS5 on Windows 7 64 bit he had issues with user profile. So I copied all his files to new user profile. Since than everytime he trys to open illustrator CS5 it gives message the Program has stopped working and cannot open it. He then deletes the preferences and recreates them and able to use CS5 illustrator. I have tried uninstalling and removing preferences while uninstalling. Istalled it back still the same problem. I went on you site and read through this issue one recommended to disable TabletServiceWacom which I did. If someone can let me know how to fix this issue would appreciate.

Thanks for the URL for cleaner tool. What exactly the tool does?

  • Illustrator CS5 / Windows 7 crashes on save

I'm having problems with a brand new install of Illustrator CS5 (from the CS5 Master Collection) on a brand new HPZ400 Xeon workstation with 8gb ram.
If I create a new document, draw a few shapes and add some text it works as expected and saves ok.
If I try to copy/paste into the document, when I try to save it, Illustrator quits without warning and Windows 7 throws up an alert with Adobe Illustrator CS5 had stopped working.
I've patched Illustrator to 15.01 and the problem persists. I've renamed the preferences file to force AI to recreate it but the behaviour is the same.
I haven't had this issue on previous versions (although they were admittedly running either XP or on a mac). Other apps in the collection seem to be working ok.
Strange... it's as vanilla an install as possible. Any help would be great.
    Nathan

OK. Updated entire CS5 Master Collection over the weekend hoping this would fix the issue but Illustrator is still not able to save/save as on some files.
I have a few eps files that open fine, but as soon as I try save as, Illustrator quits and windows throws an error "The program has stopped working..."
I've tried changing users, deleting the prefs, I even tried disabling PDF in the clipboard preferences in case this had something to do with it.
I can edit the file in question on a mac in CS5 and save it fine, however the new file (saved from Mac CS5 can't be resaved again from my PC)
Could it be a Windows 7 issue?

I had recently tried a trial version of FontExplorer Pro X, and this issue has come up after the Uninstallation of that program.  Any suggestions?

  • Illustrator CS5 Windows 7 64-bit Support

I was unable to find a direct anwser to the following questions so figured it would be best to ask here:
Is Illustrator CS5 supported on Windows 7 64-bit?
If so does it run as a 64-bit application or is it running in 32-bit mode?

    Yes,
AI CS5 is supported on win 7 64 bit. However, AI CS5 is a 32 bit application and hence runs in 32 bit mode.

  • Photoshop CS5 64-bit Crashing due to CoolType.dll

Spent 30 minutes on the phone with Adobe's fairly useless tech support, who asked me to do all the things I had already tried (delete prefs, turn of Font Preview, rename the scripting support plug-in, turn off OpenGL, etc.) in order to find out why my Photoshop CS5 64-bit on Windows 7 started crashing whenever I tried to use the text / type tool or opened a document with a type layer selected.
He thought he was done giving "support" when he said "Well, I suggest you just use the 32-bit version". When I reminded him that that didn't actually find / fix / solve the problem, he put me on hold again, then told me to use the System File Checker (sfc.exe) tool to check CoolType.dll, which is what's crashing Photoshop.
He told me that I would have to call Microsoft, because CoolType.dll is a system file and Adobe doesn't support those.
Hmm, I guess he didn't realize that CoolType.dll is an ADOBE system file that ADOBE put on my system.
Anyway...anybody know how to fix / replace CoolType.dll so that I can go back to using the 64-bit version of Photoshop CS5? I checked Adobe's website and couldn't find anyplace to download the current version.
    Thanks in advance!

I'm having this issue too.  Not sure if I have two issues or it's all related to this.  Most of the time, when I go to a folder to save an image, the program just dissapears with no error message at all and all my work is lost.  Anything I did during that session in PS is lost, including any modification of preferences, new actions made, etc.  I have tried reinstalling window 7 and CS5 and even on a clean system the problem occurs.  I have also tried uninstalling all non-essential fonts and deleting the font cache.  And, all the stuff you mentioned such as preferences in PS and dissabling  OpenGL, etc.  and have had three Microsoft tech sessions.  They don't see any evidence of the crash on my system so can't help with it.

  • Illustrator CS6 64-bit Crashes When Opening Files

This is a problem that has been plaguing me since I moved to CS6 64-bit (on a Windows 7 machine). I've only seen it in Illustrator:
Seemingly randomly once or twice a week, I will click on an AI file in Windows Explorer to open it, and Illustrator will crash to the desktop. There is no consistency to the files that I've been able to find. Some are local to my hard drive, and some are on the network. It could be a file I've opened several times the same day already or a file I haven't opened in months. I restart Illustrator and everything's fine— I can access the file, no problem.
The only trait that I have sussed out is that it seems to happen more frequently if I've left the computer idle for 20 minutes or so, which is well below the sleep time-out for my hard drive. It's almost like Illustrator doesn't know how to wait for a file if the file isn't immediately available. (The files are not open elsewhere.) I've read that Illustrator is cranky with files on network locations, but this happens more frequently with local files.
Program files are loaded from an SSD, but the scratch disk is my local HD and my files are stored on the HD. My scratch disk was originally the SSD, but the problem occured almost every day under that configuration. Moving the scratch disk to the HD made the crashes occur less frequently.
The event log for yesterday's crash doesn't seem to be particularly helpful. (Posted below.)
Is this behavior familiar to anyone? I have been searching Adobe's forums and the web in general with no luck for the last year. My apologies if this has been addressed elsewhere in the forums and I haven't found it.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

I'm in and out of CorelDraw as well. (I don't open Corel files in Illustrator.) I also see no disk errors in the event log, but, as I said, I'll check for updates because that couldn't hurt, right?  :-)
    Thanks again.

  • Illustrator CS5.1 is crashing on *every save*

Any idea why this is? I've just upgraded to CS5.1 from CS4.
Illustrator CS4 used to crash a bit with complex files, and i thought CS5.1 would resolve this but it's a lot worse! i can't save *any* file. i can open the application and open files but it crashes out completely when i try and save (no file appears in finder). I'm on mac 10.6.8
The other CS5.5 applications seem ok so far. Illustrator is very problematic though.

Yes , font could be the issues ,
You can disable those font from the font book and check.
Can you check saving the blank Illustrator File without ant content?
Also can you provide the crash log , copy and paste teh crash log on pastebin.com  and put the link here.

  • Photoshop CS5 64-bit crashes when opening an image; 32-bit works fine

This is a bit of a tricky problem, but if I start up Adobe Photoshop CS5 64-bit, it runs alright. But the second I choose an image and open it, I get "Photoshop has stopped working..." and Windows tries to find a solution.
However, the 32-bit version of PS CS5 works perfectly.
On my Mac Mini, however, which ONLY HAS Photoshop 64-bit (Creative Suite 5, Snow Leopard, latest updates), images open and edit fine.
On my PC, I also had this same exact problem with the 64-bit version of Photoshop CS4.
I read in a few forums that it might be a corrupt font, etc., but I have no idea why a corrupt font would be affecting how Photoshop 64-bit opens an image, especially if I don't even get a chance to edit the image or anything. The images I've been trying to update are JPEGs.
I have all of the updates installed on my PC regarding CS5. It's completely updated. I am really stuck. I'd like to be able to take advantage of the 64-bit technology and put that version of Photoshop to use, but I can't.
Thanks in advance. I'm willing to try anything at this point.

  • Cs5 64 bit Crashes on Windows 7

    Hi,
I have been trying to get phone support for two days now.  Here's the issues:
Photoshop 64 bit AND the new After Effects (also 64 bit in CS5) will not run.  Splash screen starts then just says "Windows has encountered a Problem" and they crash.  The 32 bit apps work fine (as does Premiere CS5 Pro so far).
    System info:
    Intel i7 CPU 3.07 Ghz
    9 GBS RAM
Nvidia Quadro FX 3800 (certifed CS5 Card)
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
    Error Reports from Event Viewer:
For Photoshop 64 bit = "Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll"
For AE = "Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\RunTime\09\01\Intel32\iuser.dll"
As I have been unable to get phone support from adobe, any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
    Edward

After reading this thread, I can also confirm the Wacom drivers are the problem. I was experiencing the same 64-bit program "errors" and the following steps eliminate the problem:
    1) Run msconfig.exe
    2) Go to the "Services" tab and scroll down until you find the "TabletServiceWacom" entry.
    3) "Uncheck" this Service, click on "Apply" and then click on "OK".
    4) You should receive a "Restart" message.
    5) Restart and you should be able to run the 64-bit Adobe programs without error.
I'm also using the "latest' Wacom tablet driver, v. 6.1.5-3a.
Has anyone tried an "earlier" version of the Wacom drivers to see if it eliminates the problem?

  • [CS5 Windows] LBQ crashes Java

    Hi all,
I'm trying to follow the instructions in the "Working With Load Balancing and Queueing" document for CS5 server. I've run four instances of ID Server using the recommended CORBA parameters in that document. Then I started LBQ by running the "clover.cmd" batch file (after tweaking it a bit, because they forgot to set the JAVA_HOME path). All seems well.
However, when I ping the LBQ as recommended, by opening this URL:
    http://localhost:8080/com.adobe.clover.application/api/GetVersion
I get a message that Java has crashed. Specifically, it says "Java(TM) Platform SE binary has stopped working." Then Windows helpfully offers to find a solution (I've never actually experienced Windows finding a solution, ever). Of course then the browser request times out, and we're back to using QuarkXPress.
This is using Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, Service Pack 1 (say that fast, 3 times), and InDesign CS5 Server 7.0.0.355.
I thought perhaps the Java version was suspect, so I uninstalled it (both 32- and 64-bit versions) and installed fresh versions from www.java.com. Still the same problem. Then I thought, maybe it needs more memory, so I changed the command line -Xmx parameter from 512M to 1024M. Still the same problem.
The problem isn't InDesign Server, because it never actually gets to that point; it's in the LBQ Java code (I think) and/or some mystical Java configuration.
So I'm stumped. Has anyone successfully used Adobe's load balancing solution as documented?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
    Regards,
    Chuck Weger

Since it refers to "dt_socket.dll," I thought perhaps there was a firewall issue, so I made sure port 8080 was opened (even though since I'm pinging localhost, I think it doesn't matter). No success.

  • Illustrator CC 64 bit crashes after a few seconds of being open (Win 8.1 64bit)

After following all related issues of others online, nothing has worked to solved this mystery.
Ai CC 64bit crashes after a few seconds of being open. I am running Win 8.1 64bit. All other Adobe CC apps work. I have installed and re-installed countless times, no help.
I am 100% convinced that Illustrator CC is 100% incompatible with Windows 8.1. Even the Microsoft compatibility page has 100% votes for incompatible yet it states it is compatible.
Adobe, if you care about paying customers, please fix this. I am coming from OS X and everything was flawless.

  • Illustrator CS5 in PC Crashing on Save

    Help please...
I've been running CS5 for a few months now and Illustrator has all of a sudden started crashing every time I save a document. All other programmes in the Suite seem to be fine. It all started yesterday when copying and pasting some small web graphics into Photoshop when it stopped copying data and not letting me paste anything.
I've downloaded the latest update, but the problem is still there.
Any ideas on how this can be solved?
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks for your response
Saving files to my local hard drive (C:\ drive) all permissions are OK.

  • Photoshop CS5 64 bit crashes at launch, save as, and when opening photos from Lightroom.

I have had this problem intermittently for years with different versions and different computers, but this time it is not going away.  I need to use the 64 bit version for large files, but it keeps crashing in several different ways.
1- I open the program from the desktop.  It shows the spash screen, shows the workspace for a couple of seconds, and then crashes with the message:

I am using the latest version.
My video card drivers are totally up to date.
I am using a decent computer with 16 gig of ram.
I am opening the program as an administrator.
I have reset the prefrences too many times to count by deleting the prefrences and holding down ctrl+alt+shift at startup.
2- If by some wild stretch of the imagination I get the program to start with totally cleared prefrences and running as administrator then the program will crash about 75% of the time when using "Save As".
If I try to do anything special like create a new folder to put the file into then the chances of a crash increase greatly.
3- If I try to open up a file from Lightroom, even if the files are opening every other way, Photoshop will crash very often.
What is going on here?  I have made no changes to my computer, have not installed any new programs, and, as I stated earlier, have everything updated.  I even stopped using plugins a long time ago because I did not want to take the chance that it was going to cause this fragile program to crash, so all plugins are uninstalled.  Why does this keep happening?  When this has happened before everything will work fine for months and then suddenly I cannot get the program to open.  When it does open again, for seemingly as unknown a reason as when it stopped, it will work anywhere from a few minutes to another couple of months.
This seems to be a problem that tons of people have, but I have not been able to find any answer other than "Delete Settings" or "Run as Administrator" or "Update *****."
What can I do to keep this from happening and to fix it when it happens?

    Update - Problem Solved.
The problem turned out to be with with Avast.  I found other people that were having the same problem with Outlook and they pointed to this problem.  The live scripts protection seems to have been causing the crash on startup.  Why it was intermittant at first and got worse I have no idea, but since disabling Avast temporarily while starting I have not had the problem again.  Now I am just going to have to start shopping for more Photoshop friendly antivirus software.
Thank you for the advice Mylenium, unfortunately (or actually fortunately for me) I did not have any 64 bit conflicts.
The other action that I took was to remove all programs installed since the problem started.  This did not fix the problem but it certainly cannot hurt to keep everything that I am not using off the computer anyways.

  • Illustrator CS3 Windows - Freezes/Crashes/locks when using open dialog.

I have looked all over the internet for a solution like this and tried all sorts of possible combinations and none worked.
So I set about tracking it down one afternoon. It only took me 4 hours to find the issue.
I think it's when the Version Cue preferences gets corrupted.
    SOLUTION:
Close Illustrator. If it's crashed used task manager to stop the application.
Navigate to: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Adobe\ and remove the workflow directory completely.
Restart Illustrator and the workflow directory will be recreated and now you can open your files with a dialogue as you would normally expect to.
    Good Luck

The video card is opening the Save dialog offscreen, outside the visible desktop area.
Select Alt+ Spacebar, choose move and then use the arrow keys to move the dialog box back on screen and resize it so it fits and opens in the correct position.

  • Illustrator CS5 crashes every time the destination is changed during save & save as

I have a new Macbook Pro Retina with OS X Yosemite, version 10.10.1.
Every time I try to change the destination folder for a file during "Save" or "Save As" in Illustrator CS5 the program crashes & I get an extensive error message. I have tried uninstalling & reinstalling Illustrator 3 times but the issue persists. I have tried installing it both with the original Creative Suite disk I purchased in 2010 and with the download from Adobe's website, and neither made a difference. I have not experienced any problems with the Photoshop or InDesign programs from the same Creative Suite package.
Please advise on how to fix this issue.
