Illustrator CS5 won't stay open it shuts down when started?

I have the CS5 creative suite and I bought it when it was first available. I have used it for several years with no major problems. In the past two days every time I start up my Illustrator program it goes through all the start up proceedures and as soon as it has come up it shuts the program down. I am on a MAC and I am experienced with the computer.

Hi again,
OK, I added a new user account and Illustrator opened just fine in the new account. Can you tell me why and what I will have to do in the original account to get Illustrator to work again?

    Hi,
my Mini has been also suddenly shutting down. Power light goes off. Not at start-up. First it lasts longer, but gradually, as I restart it, it gradually takes less and less time to suddenly shut down. Or yesterday, for example, I tryied starting it up and not touching it. It lasted for hours. Thought it was cured. Then I popped a CD in and opened iTunes. Didn't take to long before it was shutting down all of a sudden. It would seem not to be able to take any activity. Here is a Console Message I run a few days ago:

  • Re: Illustrator CS5 won't even OPEN (branched: Suitcase)

Here is a link to crash report.  It seems like I also have the same problem.  I uninstalled, reinstalled, cleared preference file, cleared font cache, but none of them seems to work. Other adobe app works fine but illustrator crashes when the application is started.  It used to work fine before but I have no idea what changed or what is causing this...

(I've branched this thread to a new discussion, because itis definitely not the "same problem." Unfortunately it didn't bring Jacob's reply so maybe that wasn't such a good plan. Oh well...)

  • After installing Photoshop, it opens but shuts down when files are opened.

Photoshop installed from CS5. After opening new document or opening an image it closes with a message saying "Adobe CS 5 has stopped working"
It has been uninstalled and re installed several times.

try resetting preferences by holding down shift-ctrl-alt (win) or shift-cmd-alt (mac) while starting ps.  you'll see a confirmation dialog if done correctly.
if that fails uninstall, clean and reinstall per, Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

  • Skype 7.0 shuts Down When Starting

Hello, I'm having a problem with skype. I get the error message that Skype has encountered a problem and needs to restart. But every time I restart, the same message pops up.
I tried the solution from the following thread:
    http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-archive/Skype-crashes-after-login/m-p/410337/highlight/true#M3...
But I couldn't find any of the files listed on my computer. I then tried to use previous versions of Skype (6.2 and then 5.6), as well as uninstalling and reinstalling Skype. But those didn't work either, and I kept getting the same error message as the first time I tried it.

Do a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 10.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data because all profile folders will be removed.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • IBooks won't stay open?

Help, my iBooks won't stay open. I was trying to download a ebook and now the app won't stay open

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray BEFORE doing the reset.

  • CS4: Collapsed panels won't stay open

I messed up my regular workspace view and reverted to a preset and noticed the collapsed panels won't stay open when expanded. I'm not sure if this is how it used to work, but it just feels wrong.
Let's say I want to move an object to another layer. I click on the collapsed Layer-panel icon to open it, then select (click) the object on artboard and Layer panel collapses back to icon. Then I need to click the panel icon again to open it and now I can move the object to another layer, but layer panel collapses again when I select another objet.
I remember having this same UI problem with Flash CS4. Have I messed up some setting, or is this really how UI works in Illustrator? I would like to save screenspace by having panels collapsed and only keeping open the one I need. InDesign works like this, keeping expanded panels open until they are collapsed again.

Thank you! It must've have switched on when I reverted to another screenset, because I can't remember ever seeing this setting (or even reading about it).

Launch Activity Monitor (in /Applications/Utilities folder), find the Mail process, and force quit it from there. If this is NOT an admin-privileged account, then log out, log back in to an admin-privileged account, run Disk Utility Verify Disk. IF problems are reported, reboot from installer DVD and run Disk Utility Repair Disk from the installer DVD. Launch it from Utilities menubar item once the menubar is visible. If you are now running booted off the installer DVD, when repair disk is complete reboot normally and log back in to admin account and download 10.6.2 combo update from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL959 and reapply it. Then run software update from the  menubar item. Let us know if that works or not.
