Illustrator CS6 blend mode spacing

I am trying to create a train track that vanishes into the horizon.
I created the first parralell piece and a tiny one on the horizon and used blend to fill in the gaps.
However as you can see from the pic below (where I have included images of the single pieces used to blend) the spacing is entirely the wrong way round. I do not want to evenly space the objects as this will not give the desired perspective effect. Is there any way to simply reverse this spacing?
I think I've tried everything, but to no avail.
Please help!

Well I can't seem to find a way short of adding smooth points and trying to get spacing correct. But that's a lesson in frustration.
A better method may be to draw the first tie, then use Effect > Distort & Transform > Transform and create the copies that way.

  • Illustrator CS6 color mode default CMYK opening CS5 files as RGB

    Hi.
Having a bit of trouble as Illustrator CS6 (that I've set to a default color mode of CMYK) is opening CS5 CMYK files as RGB color profile. I don't get a choice. And so it is messing with my color palettes when I convert back to a CMYK color profile.
Can anyone help? I can't find any answers when I search.
Any assistance appreciated. It's potentially going to kill a lot of time if I can't fix this.
    Thanks

    Hi Rachel,
You can not set a default color mode to make Illustrator open all files in a certain color mode. A file opens in the mode it was saved.
What makes you think that the CS5 files that open as RGB were CMYK and not RGB?

  • Illustrator and Blending modes. Colour managing question.

Let's say i make 2 circles with 2 different fill colours. Then i intersect and blend them with multiply. Is there any way to save the colour resulting on the intersection?
    Thank you!

    Duplicate the 2 circles.
    Object > Flatten Transparency.
Select the intersection colour and add it to your swatches.
Get rid of the duplicated objects.

  • My illustrator CS6 crashes when i try to open an AI file with RGB color mode

My illustrator CS6 crashes when i try to open an AI file with RGB color mode. I worked on this file yesterday and changed it to RGB mode. Today i tried to open the file again but illustrator won't open it and crashes. It does work when i want to open a file with CMYK color mode.
Anyone know how to fix this ?

Have you tried trashing the prefs?

  • CS4 bringing photoshop layered files into illustrator - blending modes

    Hello.
I have a layered photoshop file that is being brought into illustrator. One layer is a drop shadow and is set to multiply within photoshop. The drop shadow is NOT an effect. It's just a plain layer of a drop shadow. When I bring it into illustrator it doesn't act as if it is set to multiply when placed over my illustrator object. I know it's easy enough to make the shadow within illustrator and set the blending mode there but I would like to know why this is not working.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Illustrator's blending math is not the same as Photoshop's -- there will be differences if you import/export layered data between the apps.

  • Blending modes not working in CS6

High everybody, i am working in cs6 and starting to frustrate more and more, tried everything and nothing seems to work. Layer blending modes just seems to stop working at one moment, or at certain layers, i dont know. I have two layers one on top of other, and when i set blending mode on top layer everything just goes white, I will post screenshot of my ps, so if anybody can help me pls.. Thanks!
    .

I wanted to do some quick tutorial and this is the one i chose to kill boredom... http://psd.tutsplus.com/tutorials/designing-tutorials/creating-a-cool-3d-web-design-effect / (step 10) if you have time look into it.
The guy copies white rectangular background layer with radial gradient fx (dark red) on top, disables gradient and applies pattern overlay fx with overlay blend mode, so he just inserts pattern onto header layer and result is header with radial gradient and pattern, i know what you are saying and probably know how to do it some other way, but i am really buged how he did it, is it because he worked in older v. of ps?
p.s. this means then that in order for pattern overlay fx to work in overlay blend mode - shapes must have color (not working when colored with #fff or #000) - right?
    Thanx

  • Adobe Photoshop CS6 none of the blending modes are working.

For example if I set a lens flare with a black background and set it to screen it will not work. None of the blending modes work. Anyone know how to fix this issue? I am fairly new to photoshop and really need some help.

Note that because this is boilerplate text.
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),
exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CS6", but something like CS6v.13.0.6) and of Bridge,
your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
the type of file you were working on,
machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
    etc.,
someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster).
a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too.

  • BUG: Channel-based blend modes in FW CS5 & CS6

I've observed problems with some of the blend modes in Fireworks CS5 and CS6. Several are definitely broken—most likely a by-product of changes introduced in CS5, which attempted to match some of Photoshop's blend mode behaviors (for Hue, Saturation, Color and Luminosity).
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/logged_in/bbowman_fwcs5.html
The broken blend modes are the channel-based blend modes: Red, Green, and Blue. These have no counterpart in Photoshop, and yet no longer function properly.
To illustrate the problem, I've created a simple test graphic: three white squares, three black squares, three bitmaps, and three colored squares (red, green, and blue).
Now I'll add a black background to the canvas and apply a different channel-based blend mode—Red, Green, and Blue—to each object in its respective group. Here's the correct result, in Fireworks 8:
As you can see, each object appears to be the same color as its applied blend mode. A white rectangle with a Red blend mode becomes red, with a Green blend mode becomes green, and with a Blue blend mode becomes blue.
The way it works is this: The composite image adopts the selected channel of the object and combines it with the remaining channels of the canvas (or objects) below. For example, consider the white rectangle with a Red blend mode. The rectangle's Red channel (R:255) should be combined with the remaining channels of the canvas below (G:0,B:0) to create a composite with the appearance of red (R:255,G:0,B:0).
Now here's the same graphic as it appears in both Fireworks CS5 and CS6:
As you can see, there's no sense to this result. The Red blend mode produces Green, the Green blend mode produces Red, and the Blue blend mode produces invisibility. I simply cannot explain the outcome. These blend modes have been rendered useless and unintelligible in CS5 and CS6.
The reason for my concern here is that, just over a year ago, I wrote a series of command scripts based on these blend modes as they existed Fireworks 8. Without these blend modes, my scripts cannot function.
Assuming there are updates forthcoming for Fireworks CS6, I'm hoping there's a chance that this might still be fixed (if not for CS5, as well). Here's the bug report I've submitted regarding this issue:
    Product name: Fireworks
    Product Version: 11.1.0.205 (CS5.1)/12.0.0.236 (CS6)
    Product Language: English
    Your operating system: OS 10.6.8
    ******BUG******
Concise problem statement: Channel-based blend modes (Red, Green, and Blue) are broken in Fireworks CS6 and CS5.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Set canvas to black.
    2. Draw 3 white rectangles of any size.
    3. Set blend mode of 1st rectangle to Red, 2nd rectangle to Green, 3rd rectangle to Blue.
Results: 1st rectangle appears Green (instead of Red). 2nd rectangle appears Red (instead of Green). 3rd rectangle becomes invisible (instead of Blue).
Expected results: Each rectangle should appear to be the same color as its applied blend mode, as the composite adopts the selected channel of the object and combines it with the remaining channels of the canvas (or objects) below.
In the preceding example, the black canvas contains no channel information (R:0,G:0,B:0) while the white rectangles contain information in all 3 channels (R:255,G:255,B:255). When a Red blend mode is applied to a white rectangle, the object's Red channel (R:255) should be combined with the remaining channels of the canvas below (G:0,B:0) to create a composite with the appearance of red (R:255,G:0,B:0).
Most likely, this bug was introduced in CS5, which included modifications to Hue, Saturation, Color and Luminosity blend modes (to match Photoshop). For comparison, proper RGB blend mode behavior was observed in Fireworks 8.
For more information about this bug, please see the following post: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1209542

I haven't noticed changes in the way the blend modes work.
It's possible you have a specific problem on your system, or you have an image with a color space that uses a different gamma than you're used to working in.  In the latter case, the math could be the same but if the representation of the colors is changed (which is what the color profile defines) you could get a radically different looking result.
Maybe it would be useful to post some screen grabs, and ideally it would be great if you could post a copy of a PSD file that demonstrates the problem (i.e., looks different when opened in an older version of Photoshop than in Photoshop CS6).
EDIT:  Looks like I was too late in answering; I was distracted after typing and before posting.

  • Illustrator CC Layer Blending Modes not working

Did Adobe do something to Illustrator CC that the layers with the same object colors are no longer blending. No matter what blend mode I apply the object never blends with the object with the same color behind it

  • Blend Modes not working in CS6

My blend modes aren't working. If I try to apply a blend mode, no effect.

Hi, Noel. I'm very new at this, so I'll try to give you as much information as I can. Using blend mode on the single merged layer was working for me several hours ago. My process was Gaussian bur on layer, blend mode set to multiply on layer, and then desaturate. When blend mode was working, desaturation looked kinda funny (something wasn't right). I'm following this tutorial: http://wegraphics.net/blog/tutorials/how-to-design-a-vintage-style-ski-poster-in-photoshop /
I tried adding a new layer under the old layer, but still not working. How do I set new layer as a background? I have no intent to save it as a partially transparent PNG.

  • How to apply blending modes to a gif in CS6?

Hello everyone! I am in need of a tutorial or at least a how-to-step-through on how to apply the different blending modes on a gif.
For this specific situation, I have a gif with a black background and a white semi-glowing scope, but I just want the white glowing scope to show.
I think that Lighten would be a good blending mode, but I just don't know how to produce the results I want.
Could anyone give me a reference or a guide on how to do this?
I'm not sure how to edit a gif either, being that there are so many tutorials saying this and that, leaving me confused in the end.
If someone could break all this down for me in detail(as simple as possible) and what not, that'd be great!
    Until then, thank you!

GIFs are in indexed color and don't support any blending modes nor layers. You need to do an Image --> Mode --> RGB and then a whole new world will open up...

  • Cropping Images with Opacity Masks | Learn Illustrator CS6 | Adobe TV

In this video you will learn a versatile method for cropping images in Adobe Illustrator CS6 and CS5. Using opacity masks allows you to retain the area of the image you cropped out, modify the clipping path later, and use complex blending modes, transparencies, and knockout groups.
    http://adobe.ly/V8tTZD

    Firstly great tutorial.
Anyway I initially started a thread in the forums which lead me here regarding the use of opacity masks, I'm having real problems finding a solution to my specific problem.
I've got 2 issues I'm trying to solve, the first is how do I show just a portion an object above another even though it sits in a layer behind.
The second is I have an object with a linear gradient applied and I want to add yet another gradient just to a certain part of that object in order to make it fade out in a certain way.
I've spent hours pouring through the help topics but nothing seems to fit my exact problem, sorry for asking questions here but I'm really stumped and I think an opacity mask would do the trick, I'm just not sure how to execute it.
    Thanks heaps.

  • Exporting layout as Photoshop from Illustrator CS6 but some of the layers keep mergering

I have created a layout in Illustrator (CS6) and seperated the individual images I require into named layers. My intention is to export as a Photoshop file (keeping all the layers), then using 'Script' in Photoshop to 'Export layers to files..', so I can get automatically save all the elements in the layout as individual transparent png.
When I export the files as Photoshop a warning comings up saying that 'some layer have been merged' and then when I open this file in Photoshop, all but a couple of text layers have been merged into 1 layer. I think it's something to do with the transparencies set in Illustrator but don't know how to resove this.
If it can't be resolve in the method I am using at present, my only other option is to switch off all but 1 layer in Illustrator  and export this layer as a png, but as I have many elements to the layout (including on and off states) and this is just one layout page of many, this manual way of export the files will take me forever!
If nobody know I way I can stop these layers from merger into one layer when exported to Photoshop, then maybe someone can  suggest a way I can automatic export the layers I have set up in Illustrator, as transparent pngs in a simular way I can in Photoshop.
Any help anyone can give me would be MUCH appreciated, as I am on a short deadline for this project!
    Julie

Layers are often merge becuase you've used transparency, blend modes, or other complex appearance settings in Illustrator. To ensure all layers export individually you should avoid the use of ANY and ALL transparency in AI and always export to the same color mode as your docuemnt.
