Illustrator CS6 Creates Graphs it Can't Reopen?

Hi,
I tried to graph a short series of very large numbers (between 0 and 3,000,000,000). I seem to remember that in the past it would refuse to graph numbers larger than a certain limit, but this time it did it without complaint.
HOWEVER, when I tried to open the file it threw a "Can't Open... The Illustration Ended Unexpectedly... Etc." dialog box.
I've made sure Illustrator is up to date, and have restarted, and tried doing the same thing in a new file.
Has anyone else had this problem?
UPDATE: I just tried to reproduce this issue on a different computer and was able to.

I've had a similar problem but with a file containing an area graph failing to re-open - the values totaled just 158616 at their highest combined point; but there were 40 points on the category axis, maybe it's something to do with totals, or different for area graphs?
Has anything been done about this in the 6 months since the last post?
Before trying to reload it, I could work with the file with no problem. In fact I had saved three seperate versions of it over the course of a few hours (I often save multiple versions because I've been burned by file corruption in the past). Guess what? All three files are corrupted and can't be opened.
Does anyone have any solutions, fixes, suggestions? EDIT: I can File>Place the corrupted files, but they are messed up: the graphs are static paths not live graph objects, and everything is nested in lots and lots of clipping masks and groups that weren't in the original file. It seems like it's treating the file like a non-illustrator PDF not like Illustrator objects. It works as guidelines to recreate the files, but if possible I'd like to restore the original files...
EDIT 2: This seemed to fix it (hopefully... so far...):
Follow the steps on http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/enable-content-recovery-mode-illustrator.html to create a copy of the corrupted .ai file with edittable code
Opened it in a plain text text editor, found unusual looking lines quoted in the error message. I think it's something to do with open brackets/paranthesis ( ( ) that don't close. In [scott]'s example, there's a line with a couple of (s that never close. In my case, they are easy to spot: in blocks like ((((((((( and the lines looked like this: %_0 0 0 0 1334441211((((((((((((((((((((((((((( 1334441211((((((((((((((((((((((((((( 1334441211((((((((((((((((((((((((((( Xa )
Deleted these lines of code completely
Opened the file again - this time it worked, graphs and all.
Saved a copy, reopened: so far it seems able to reopen the file

I found another bug in Adobe Illustrator CS6 and CC.
If you are opening a file that contains profile (and not installed in Windows), Illustrator, although I warn you that profile will be used in the document, but the opening is not there. There is only working space profile. CS5 is okay.
On this error we found by accident when we wanted to open the client data in Illustrator and then convert to profile our printer and use the embedded profile as the source.

Why does Illustrator CS6 create gradients through clip groups?

Hi,
This may be a stupid question, but I jumped to CS6 from CS3 and am a bit confused. I create graphics for stock imagery and it is important to minize the amount of shapes. I created my first image with CS6 that has several gradients and my file is enormous because when I viewed it with "Overprint view" it showed that all gradients consisted of several paths contained in a clip group. How do I avoid this? Any help would be appreciated!

I just made a very primitive inerpretation of clip art which is the kind of stuff sold for stock.
There are no clipping paths even though there are many paths with gradient fills. Can you explain how you create the art and or prepare a video so we can watch you create one shape with which you use the gradient that produces this clipping group?

On Illustrator CS6 (Mac OS) how can I keep an open file minimized when opening other files?

I work with several files at a time and it can become annoying when you open several files and a minimized file keeps opening after each one. I don't want to have it open in the background, I just want it to stay minimized until I'm ready to work with it.

Hi Lytle,
Let me clarify few more things here. There is an option Window>Arrange>Float in Window / Float All in Windows. You can use this option to float all your documents i.e. make them in separate document window. Now you can minimize these individual windows. But, when you open any more document your last active document window will come into focus. To avoid disturbing minimized state of other documents you can keep a blank document floating and before opening any document make it active and then open any new document. This is a kind of workaround to get rid of this issue.

Illustrator CS6 DWG export also creates PNG/JPG Rasters?

Why does Illustrator CS6 create a bunch of raster images (PNG or JPG) files when I export to DWG? There's no way to turn it off, is there? This is stupid.

Also, they changed the way DWGs are exported, from CS5, again. It was working fine before, now not only does it add an array of raster images, it's buggy as hell. I get some lines but not others. I don't see any rhyme or reason to it, yet. This is really frustrating. My art is not complex at all.

Illustrator CS6 - Organisation problems with printing from PDF

Hi everybody
I working with the Illustroartor for some times now and I get better every time, but now its appears that’s I have a organization problem with my Illustrator CS6 and maybe somebody can help me here.
My problem: I create for example a logo and this logo I like to print on an Objekt like a Paperclip or a Lighter. I have now a print template as a PDF File (see attachement) with serveral predefined print areas. Around 100 predefined printing areas are on the PDF File and the only way to add my logo into this 100 predefined printing areas is by using the funktion “copy/past” but this takes long time and I have to adjust each single logo into the predefined printing area by hand … so this way don’t make really sense and is also very time consuming.
My question is: Is there any way to automate this process by using e.g. the artboard funktion or some other functions?
I would appreacte any help in this case!!!

Stroke Bug Illustrator CS6

I contacted Adobe in June 2013 about a problem with the stroke profile items. I was told that there would be an update available and no updates were available. Will this be fixed anytime soon? Is it fixed in CC? In my photo I show the same exact stroke with different profiles applied. I have yet to find any efficient work arounds. Any info would be very helpful. Thanks!

Unfortunately, the uncertainty arising from the rounding has been up several times here in this forum.
I just came to remember a warning that needs to be given:
The rounding of the representation of a numerical value may be harmless in itself, but if you use it for any operation that changes the value, such as multiplication or whatever, things will go wrong because the operation will be made on the basis of the rounded value instead of the true value. So, as in your first case in post #2, 39.625 rounded to 39.63 will become 79.26 instead of 79.25.

Can a pattern created in illustrator CS6 be plotted?

When a new pattern is being created in Illustrator CS6, the shaped objects that form the basis for the pattern, all have anchor points.However, when the pattern is then created and is stored in the swatch, it looses it's anchor points when it is used to fill an object. We are trying to trying to create patterns that can be cut out on a vinyl plotter which obviously means we need to find a way around this if possible.

John, thank you for the help so far, but it does not solve the problem completely.
The bounding boxes for each piece of artwork making up the pattern are now visible and worse still, they actually plot also.
Is there a way of hiding these bounding boxes?
Also when a pattern is created in the swatches panel, it seems to disappear when I finish that session of illustrator. What is the best way to save the new pattern so that I can access it every time I go in to illustrator?

Hmmm, the problem appears to have disappeared once I deinstalled Dreamweaver CS6. Coincidence?
Also our IT department sent me this, but no need for it at the moment:
Deleting the preference folder (in osx it's in "user/library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator 17 Settings").
Illustrator will then create new preferences.

Has Adobe improved the Graphs tool in Illustrator CS6?

Does anyone know whether there have been any improvements to the graphing tool in Illustrator CS6?
I had thought that perhaps Adobe would be adding a graphs function to Indesign, but there has been no word of it with the CS6 release. And nobody has mentioned graphs in their "new features" reviews of either InDesign nor Illustrator.
The graphing function in Illustrator really sucks - it's been the same since Illustrator 88. Have they totally abandoned those of us who have to create graphs again? Or have they improved it but it's just not cool enough for anyone to mention?

I do a lot of reports - sometimes a 100 page report will have 40 or 50 graphs in it. I have to create over a thousand graphs every year. I have tried all the other products I can find and none of them create files that are really usable in a workflow where everything else is done in Adobe Creative Suite. I need to option click on a linked image of a graph in Indesign, open up an Illustrator file, and update the graph with new data from an Excel file. And I need the graph to look good.
Currently, the Illustrator graphing tool does not support live updating of the data very well at all and has severe limitations. Your data cannot have commas or percent signs or dollar signs. You cannot have numbers as categories (years, for example, as a category label all have to be typed in quotes). The graph labels cannot even have commas in them (you have to enter them manually after you plot it.) The entry dialog for the data is really primitive and hard to work with. And every time you update the graph data and replot the bars or lines, the tick marks are scattered all over the page and you lose your commas in the axis labels. Adobe really ought to be ashamed and embarrassed by how poorly this tool works, and I cannot understand how they can create tools like a perspective grid (which is cool, but I haven't needed it yet) and totally ignore such a basic productivity tool as the graphing feature.
I'm all for the cool stuff too . . . but you don't need live paint or live trace to do graphs if you can actually just import the numbers and do it right. But my graphs need to be accurate and based on plotted numbers, not hand-drawn. And so I have to come up with complicated workarounds and every time I update a graph I have to do all this stuff over again that should just be a one-click update.
If anyone out there is looking for a good business opportunity, build a graphing plugin for Indesign or Illustrator - I'll be happy to test it!

Issue with Illustrator CS6 - can't get it to run

Since a couple of weeks ago, I have an issue with Illustrator CS6 - can't get it to run When starting the application I get the following error:
"The procedure entry point ?AcquireVarient@ImageInterface@drawbot@dvaui@@QBE?BV?$intrusive_ptr@UImageInterface@drawb ot@dvaui@@@boost@@V?$rational@J@5@@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library D:\Program Files\Contents\Windows\Illustrator.exe."
I'm running it on Windows 8 (x64). I have multiple other Adobe applications installed, which are running fine. I've tried solving the issue with reinstalling Illustrator - multiple times. My GPU driver is updated to the latest version.

I have this issue as well on my Mac and called tech support 4 times and they can't fix it. Adobe has really gone down hill in a short amount of time!!
Only thing that worked (as a temporary fix) is to create a new user and toggle back and forth between two users which is very annoying. Adobe has tried uninstalling, reinstalling, taking over my computer remotely, trashing plugins, verifying permissions but the fact remains that we bought CS6 four weeks ago and Illustrator doesn't work.
I'm going on Facebook to let others know.....don't buy Adobe, it doesn't work and they don't know how to fix.
