Illustrator CS6 Freezing

When i open it up on my imac,it lets me set a new workspace,but wont let me do anything after that,i just get the loading icon and it freezes until i force quit,anybody else having this issue or know how to resolve it without having to do a fresh install? thank you in advance.

Ask in the AI forum and provide exact system info. "iMNac" is way too generic....

Illustrator CS6 Freezes/Hangs on SaveAs

When I open a dwg file in illustrator or another AI file that I've exported from Rhino & try to 'Save As' in Illustrator, the application freezes and I have to kill it via task manager.
This problem started mysteriously about a week ago. I've spent countless hours troubleshooting & also tried a fresh install, but no dice. Please help!

Hi guys,
Ok - fingers crossed, but the problem seems to be solved.
It was very strange bc when I opened up AI from scratch, drew a bunch of random shapes & tried to Save As, it worked fine. However, when I opened any file where the vectors did not originate from AI & tried to Save As, AI froze -- the AI save dialogue would not pop up after I input the file name and selected file destination (in the explorer save window).
In another forum entry (Re: Illiustrator CS6 crashes when creating New File) someone suggested changing the default printer, so I tried that & oddly enough it worked! Some of the printers my computer is hooked up to are networked & some aren't - I just switched my default to a non-networked printer.
If someone from Adobe could please explain what Saving a new file has to do with computer printer defaults, it would be really great to understand & might shed light on other similar issues.. thanks!!

Illustrator CS6 Freezing (Mac)

Hey guys, Im wondering if any one has been experiencing these issues or if I am alone on this.
Illustrator CS6 has been consistantly freezing on me (pinwheeling) causing me to force quit. I first notice it happening when I left it open and unattended for half and hour or more. I uninstalled and reinstalled after removing prefs etc. It kept happening for various reasons esp when trying to copy and paste items. Now it happens when ever it feels like it.
I am running Mac OSX Lion 10.7.4 on an iMac i7.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Use Font Expoler, it works perfectly. I totally gave up on Suitecase, a piece of crap.
I was a long time users, more than 10 years.
Just get a demo first for free and see how it works.
Never freeze since swithched. And my MacPro is much faster now.
I like Suitcase interface, but I could not stand freezing so many times.
which will damage your system files with so many freezing problem.
Don't wait Adobe's fix, that's some kind of bugs in Suitecase.

Ilustrator parts pulled back from timemachine when it was working fine but problem still there.
What the hell am I missing here?
As an added problem, I cannot use online activation due to our "security" so I am trying to avoid a complete re-install because it was a nightmare to sort last time - we have 6 machines to do - same issue.

Illustrator CS6 Freezing when opening existing files. Need Help ASAP.

Hello There,
I have the most current version on Illustrator CS6. When opening files, any file, it freezing and I have to force quit the application. I have deleted the pref file with some luck, it will only work for a short time. I have held shift+cmd+opt and this too will work 1 in 10 time. I've uninstalled illustrator multiple times. no progress. I need a fix not a band-aid. I am on a mac running OS X 10.8.3. Is this a known issue? I have a co-working having the same issues.
Any suggestions??

I deleted Vector Scribe Studio, FontExplorererX and that is all I had... still nothing.

Illustrator CS6 freezing with more than one document

I have always had multiple files open at a time when using illustrator but all day today the program has been freezing everytime i open more than one document. I am able to use the program now if i only have one file open but it freezes as soon as i open the second file. I have restarted my computer twice and i have closed every other program on my computer and none of that helped. I have a macbook pro and i save all of my illustrator files on an external hard drive. As any one else experienced this?

Have you added any Illustrator plug ins or software recently, or enabled new fonts? Try working with some other doumcnets if you have not, to help narrow down if this is a global problem affecting all documents.
Create a new user account and log in as that
Run applications /utilities/disk utility and fix permissions
Is there a common image used in these doucments, may be corrupt and sometimes opening and resaving a .psd for example

Illustrator CS6 freezing (for up to an hour) when saving

I've been having this issue with seemingly random documents... It tends to occur when a document is even slightly complex. (By that I just mean it could have lots of text or vectored images. Nothing more complex than that. Even when the text is entirely outlined.)
Not all documents are like this. Most save just fine. Sometimes Illustrator freezes for a few moments, but yesterday one file took an hour to save. The first time I tried I waited 30 minutes but then force quit the application because I had to move on, but I lost all my work. I had to redo everything again, so the second time I just waited it out.
I tried trashing preferences like someone suggested on another thread here, but that accomplished nothing except me having to completely redo my preferences even though I put them back.
Any other suggestions?

Note: This could be unrelated but at this point I don't know - the server I connect to for work is very slow right now, and we've been having connectivity problems. I work from my desktop but then copy everything back once I'm done. Could this be affecting my computer?

Your server does play a very big part in this. Even if you are saving to your computer, and the server is connected, that can kill Illustrator. For us every 2 months or so, our server needs a reboot. We can tell be cause we get a spinning beach ball for everything, and once you hear other people complaining you know something is wrong. I dismount the server so I can work, and then log back on after the reboot.
So far you only mentioned saving is slow. Do a save as and turn off PDF compatible(on the second window), that will make you file much smaller, and you do not need that unless you are placing into InDesign.
Other things can cause this such as a bad font, font database or full hard drive. Have your peers had any similar problems? Update Illustrator to 16.04 if you have not and run disk utility to fix permissions.

Illustrator cs6 is freezing at start up

I have adobe illustrator cs6 on a Mac mini. I have been using it everyday for about 3 weeks. All my art is vector based. Today I clicked on the icon in my task bar. The icon did its regular jumping thing, then began to bounce much higher. The start up screen came on. At the bottom where were it says it is loading text and thing like that it get stuck on inizilializing. Then a new box appears above it and says it can not perform this task.
I need illustrator now.

The problem had changed now. I'll turn the computer on snd it starts to boot, freezes and then prompts me the **** it down. There are no other devices connected. Just the keyboard and a wireless mouse. I'm unable to safe boot.
I have an iMac 24 inch, early 2008. Processor is 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Memory is 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. Software is MAC OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63). I had 2 updates which I did. Started using Skype at which point the computer froze. Restarted it and this has been happening since then.

Illustrator CS6 and Graphic Styles (Freezing)

Hi everyone, I'm on a Mac and have Illustrator CS6. Whenever I try to open up Graphic Styles, it freezes.
I deleted preferences and even did the disk permissions repair, then restarted. Nothing. I tried to create multiple types of documents too (print, web, etc), but whenever I try to open styles after creating that document, it freezes.
These are the vanilla default graphic styles, mind you.
It might freeze for other tools, but I'm not sure, haven't gotten that far in the investigation. Would anyone happen to have any ideas? :/ Thanks!!

Just got this issue (yet again). I tried something I use to fix certain Bridge glitches - unmount any disk called USERS. I don't know why, but my Adobe programs don't like disks with this name. Then, when you click on graphic styles, give it like, 30sec - 2min to load. You can even just browse the interwebs. The AI icon on your toolbar will bounce when it's loaded up and ready to use again. Also, make sure the Graphic Styles aren't displayed when you close the file, or it can be hell to re-open it at all. Don't know why, but I had this same problem with CS5.

What could be causing Illustrator CS6 to freeze when I save a particular .ai file?

I tried saving it in a new location, changing the name, and saving it in a legacy format. Every time I ended up with the spinning beachball. No other file is having this issue. What could I look for in the file that might be causing this?
Interesting note: once during this process I left the computer for 20 minutes, and it eventually unfroze. Still had the same issue when I tried to save it again.

We have seen this issue with the latest Esko Data Exchange plug-in, version 12.0.147 and Illustrator CS6.
If you are using Pantone Plus swatches, you may see a beach ball during a save. Either, remove the Esko folder from the Illustrator Plug-ins folder, or change your Pantone Plus swatch from an LAB value to a CMYK. Your file will now save correctly.
UPDATE: I received a response from Esko, they said to turn off this option: In Illustrator CS6 go to: Illustrator/Preferences => Esko and turn off "update XMP on Document Save". Confirmed, it corrects this issue!

PDF Saving issue in Illustrator CS6 (Mac)

I have trouble saving Acrobat 4 compatible PDF files in Illustartor CS6. The problem does not affect every file I try to save, but when saving from AI to PDF, heavier files tend to be hard to save. I select the "Save as" option, click PDF, choose my location, then in the dialog with the settings I choose the ones I need and hit enter. A progress bar appears and after a while it freezes on about 80% and never moves further. I am running Illustrator CS6 on a MacBook Pro Retina, 2.6 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, 8 GB RAM, OS X Mountain Lion. I have tried reinstalling Illustrator, saving to a different location and changing the settings. the only thing that worked for me was saving a Acrobat 5 or 6 compatible file, but this is not a solution, since I need the Acrobat 4 compatibility for a client. You can open the PDF in Acrobat and save to Acrobat 4 compatibility, either through optimize or preflight. I would also ask the client why they want Acrobat 4 compatibility.

Illustrator CS6 crashes every time when I try to use the type tool over an image. HELP!

I've been working on several files for some package design. Every time I try to replace some text that happens to be sitting over a linked photo, illustrator freezes up and crashes. Every single time without fail, it fails.
I tried to move the same piece of text off the artboard, modify it, and move it back, but it crashed even while off the board (and not on top of an image).
What is causing this? Is there a fix?
I'm running Windows 7, up to date on all software (windows & adobe included). Using Illustrator cs6, 64bit. I'm running on a new machine as well - though I was having this issue on another computer as well.

Temporarily break the link to the image by renaming, then make your edit, then change the name back when done.
Also open the image in photoshop, check over channels and paths for anything strange or unecessary, do a save as to same filename and replace, this may flush out any problem with the image.

Illustrator CS6 "not responding"

Illustrator CS6 (MAC OSx) constantly freezes for no particular reason, and states "not responding", leaving the only option to "force quit" and restart. I have tried resetting the preferences and various other options, with no success. Is there a way to fix this?

I am using a Mac Mini, with MAC OSx, and a Phillips screen. There does not seem to be a pattern that I can decipher that helps me figure out why Illustrator CS6 does this.
Here are a list of some of the times it does this, and a few things I have tried.
When opening Illustrator, I then create a new document. If I choose the default setting (Print / A4 etc) then it opens a new document without a problem. If I however change the settings to web, it freezes. If once I have a blank print cmyk document open, I then try to open a previously saved illustrator file (.ai) of any variety - big or small, old or new, print or web etc, it freezes. When I say it freezes I mean that it won't do anything, and on clicking on the icon, it says Illustrator not responding. This does not change over time. I have waited hours to see if anything changes. It does not. I have to "force quit" and restart it.
Other times, I have tried to directly open a previous illustrator file / document from finder, with illustrator closed, and it does the same "not responding" after it opens illustrator
I have tried opening illustrator, and then opening a previous document from the file > open command. It also freezes at this point.
But then there are times when illustrator opens, and opens files (big or small, print or web, old or new) without a problem, and I haven't seemingly done anything different.
Other times that is freezes are when moving the swatches panel from one side of the screen to the other, with a document open (any type of .ai)
I usually work in .ai files, but have had the same problem with .eps and png's etc too.
It has also frozen when embedding a png image into a .ai doc.
In general my documents are not large, they average anywhere between 200kb to 2.5 MB usually.
I have tried switching off my computer and rebooting it, still no luck
I have tried closing all programs, and only opened Illustrator, still no luck
I have done software updates with no change.
I have tried resetting preferences by holding down the shift, cntrl, apple, alt keys on opening. This has helped once or twice, but I have had no luck with it for the past few months.
Does any of this information help?
My next option is to delete and reinstall illustrator, but I am a bit nervous to do that in case I have other complications with installing it for a second time.

Illustrator CS6 won't open additional files after 30 minutes use

Illustrator CS6 (on an iMac, OS X Yosemite, Version 10.10) sort of freezes up after I've been using it for about 30 minutes - it won't open or create additional files or copy/cut/paste objects.
It did this with OS X Maverick as well. I tried uninstalling the software and reinstalling it.
The only way I can fix this issue is to save all opened windows and quit Illustrator. When I reopen it, it seems fine but it freezes up again every hour or so.

Btw, what type of files do you open for the first half 'n hour? What kind of objects are in those files? Do you keep the multiple documents open, if yes, then how many are these?

Illustrator CS6 constantly crashing on Windows 7 system, triggered by the navigator. Anyone else??

I have now been experiencing this problem for the past 7 months (since using a PC in my current position on a Windows 7 operating system). It is incredibly frustrating! I had previously used a Mac, and continue to do so at home and do not have this problem.
Whenever I use the navigation tool in Illustrator CS6, and have done so for a sustained period of time (for example moving across 3+ artboards), Illustrator crashes without warning. I get a message window that says 'Illustrator has encountered a problem and needs to close.' Then when you press OK, it freezes and quite often I have to manually restart the PC by holding the power button down as CS6 is unresponsive in Task Manager, or I have to log out and back in again. I only realised the link with the Navigation tool after this repeatedly happened, up to 4 times a day on average and I kept a log to record what I was doing at that moment. I have only retained my sanity with the help of auto-save. Prior to this I would lose hours of work a day.
I saw on a similar thread on this forum that said the bug could be triggered by the use of a Wacom tablet (I have an Intuos 3 with the latest drivers) so I tried working with a mouse for 2 weeks and although the problem happened slightly less frequently, it still happened. Therefore I wondered if perhaps the Wacom just increased the speed of the navigator and aggravated the problem. I also read it could be triggered by an Nvidia graphics card, so I installed a Radeon HD6570 but the problem remained.
Now fast-forward 7 months and I have a whole new system, a brand new PC with 8GB RAM and 3 GHZ processor speed in a last chance attempt to rule out any hardware link. Unfortunately, it has just happened AGAIN. Now I have eliminated any link to hardware, it is clearly a software problem (Namely Windows 7/CS6 incompatibility). A similar problem has also been listed on the Adobe site in which it claimed it would be fixed with an update, but after downloading this the bug is still there.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? And even though Adobe are aware of it...when can I expect an update that fixes the problem? I can't be the only one. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Why did you say nothing has changed? Does that mean it was working but now it's not?
Do you have a folder called c:\temp? If so rename it to c:\myTemp. If you don't then search for your \Temp folders and delete any XML files, DO NOT DELETE ALL XML files.
Make sure you are logged in as a local PC administrator, disconnect your network cable, disable your anti-virus and then do a repair install on Crystal Reports
