Illustrator CS6 Running an Action on Multiple files in a folder

I'm having trouble getting this to work and was hoping someone could shed some light for me.
I created a action in Illustrator CS6 (on a PC) which opens PNG files, scales them onto a 8.5 x 11 page, saves them as a PDF into a output folder on my desktop and then closes the page. The action works great and does exactly what I had hoped for.
Here is my issue:
I now have a need to do this on multiple files at the same time. Using the Illustrator Help menu, I found out about Batch processing. The tutorial says that a batch can be run on a single file or on a folder of files. Bingo! That's what I want. Problem is, I can't get it to work.
After setting up the batch with the following settings: (note: I didn't use a destination folder because I have the action saving the pdf into an output folder on the desktop).
According to the help page, it said to use Override Action "Open" commands which Opens the files from the specified folder and ignores any Open commands recorded as part of the original action. I thought this is what I needed to open all the files in the folder, because when recording my action, I had to use the open command to open a png file. It wouldn't just let me choose a folder. If I don't have the open command in the action, nothing happens.
My main issue is getting multiple files from within my input folder to open when running the action. The only file that opens is the file that I recorded while creating the action. If I remove that file from the folder, nothing happens at all.
Please help!
Thank you,

I need to create a Action in Illustrator CS6 where i have to open set of files from the desired folder and convert the files to eps format. but i need to save as CS5 version instead of CS6.
I tried creating the Action it works perfectly except the CS6 to CS5 conversion.
Is there any way to achive converting to CS5 in Action?
please help.

  • Can i run a script on multiple files in a folder

i have a folder where i have 60 files. Each file takes about 45 to 1 hr to go through the script and the script is same for all files. So I was thinking to create a script that can run over night and next morning i can come and distribute all my files. It’s a simple script that looks for some specific words and highlights them.

  • How can I upload multiple files or whole folder structures in one go to the Cloud?

How can I upload multiple files or whole folder structures to the Cloud in one go? Uploading lots of files singularly does not help my workflow.
    All help is much appreciated.
    Paul.

    Hi,
Uploading multiple files is browser specific.
Internet explorer won't allow to select and upload multiple files on the cloud.
If you want to upload multiple files then you have to login to Cretaive cloud using Firefox or Chrome web browser, then you can select multiple files in the Browse window to upload.
    You can't upload folders directly.
    Thanks,

  • PC- Illustrator CS6 Running Slow

As the title says, I'm working on a PC with Illustrator CS6, and latley it's been a pain in the ***. Every few actions Not Responding pops up in the top of the window and it takes a few seconds to load before returning to normal. It never full on crashes, it just behaves as if I have this massive file when it really isn't. I'm running a PC optimized for animation so I know for a fact it's not the hardware. Thanks.

so I know for a fact it's not the hardware
nevertheless: please tell us the details.
    Also: what's in the files?
WHich actions exactly cause the lag?
is the PC hooked to a network?
Is a printer connected and turned on?
    Fonts OK?
    font management in use?

  • Illustrator CS6 crashes when 40 or more files are open at the same time

    Windows 7 SP1, Illustrator CS6
The end users spends 7 hours of their 8 hours in Illustrator. As part of the job, they have to have over 40 different files open at the same time because they are working on several jobs at the same time as well as working forward. So the answer is not "they have to close some files". This, unfortunately, is not an option.
We recently upgraded them to CS6. They said that version CS5 was fine and didn't crash like this. But Illustrator CS6 crashes on them, closes itself, and obviously they lose all unsaved changes (saving the changes isn't a choice either, because the files are shared and have to stay original).
The only modification we've done to the program is to UNcheck "Append" in the preferences.
This happens on all 3 computers for all 3 users, so I don't believe it to be end-user related.
Does anyone out there know of a way to get Illustrator to stop crashing?
Is there a specific limit on the number of files that can be open?
    Thanks,
    Spencer

No, they aren't working on the same files. All 3 employees are working on different files.
They are all on Dell Optiplex GX745 with 4 Gb of RAM.
The crashes are at different times, not all 3 crashing at the same time. Therefore, I don't believe network is the cause of the issues. Also, it didn't crash on CS5, but now it does on CS6.
What I'm looking for are possible settings within Illustrator CS6 that I can tweak to make it a more stable program.
    Thanks

  • Illustrator CS6 64-bit Crashes When Opening Files

This is a problem that has been plaguing me since I moved to CS6 64-bit (on a Windows 7 machine). I've only seen it in Illustrator:
Seemingly randomly once or twice a week, I will click on an AI file in Windows Explorer to open it, and Illustrator will crash to the desktop. There is no consistency to the files that I've been able to find. Some are local to my hard drive, and some are on the network. It could be a file I've opened several times the same day already or a file I haven't opened in months. I restart Illustrator and everything's fine— I can access the file, no problem.
The only trait that I have sussed out is that it seems to happen more frequently if I've left the computer idle for 20 minutes or so, which is well below the sleep time-out for my hard drive. It's almost like Illustrator doesn't know how to wait for a file if the file isn't immediately available. (The files are not open elsewhere.) I've read that Illustrator is cranky with files on network locations, but this happens more frequently with local files.
Program files are loaded from an SSD, but the scratch disk is my local HD and my files are stored on the HD. My scratch disk was originally the SSD, but the problem occured almost every day under that configuration. Moving the scratch disk to the HD made the crashes occur less frequently.
The event log for yesterday's crash doesn't seem to be particularly helpful. (Posted below.)
Is this behavior familiar to anyone? I have been searching Adobe's forums and the web in general with no luck for the last year. My apologies if this has been addressed elsewhere in the forums and I haven't found it.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give that a shot... but wouldn't other applications be experiencing the same thing? I open Photoshop files all day and it's never happened. I'm in and out of CorelDraw as well. (I don't open Corel files in Illustrator.) I also see no disk errors in the event log, but, as I said, I'll check for updates because that couldn't hurt, right?  :-)
    Thanks again.

  • Illustrator CS6 locks up when I choose File - New...

I have Illustrator CS6 on a Mac OSX 10.7.4. Every time I choose File - New... or press 'cmd n' it locks up and I get the dreaded spinning ball cursor. Any way to fix this?
Opening a file by double clicking on an ai file in finder is fine.

You did a Get Info on that folder and the Read/Write access is set to allow everyone access? Did you also check the parent folder (en_US) for the same access? Try going back up the line and allowing everyone access to the files and apply the same to all the enclosed files like this

  • Illustrator CS6 mac fail at save large file

    hi there~
I'm using macbook pro 9,2 and with os 10.8. I've just got my illustrator cs6.
I have a piece of work about 11mb and everytime I save the work the app is no response and I have to force quit it.
I tried for appro. 20 times and everytime is the same situation. I've tried to delete the perfernce file, use another account, change time zone, repair permission, reinstall but all failed............
    Can anyone help me out?

That's a good idea, but it was already set at the lowest resolution, so no luck, still freezes.
The worst part is that when you open it in CS4, it does that weird layer grouping/clipping mask thing with the layers so you can't easily edit the file, if I save the file in the legacy version CS4 and open it in CS6, it retains the strange layer grouping. Although it does open it still doesnt solve my problem because now I just have a horrible to manage file.
PS has anyone figured out how to fix the layer grouping issue with legacy (Cs4 and below) Illustrator files?

  • Illustrator CS6 repeat last action command in hungarian version

In the hungarian version of the Adobe Illustrator CS6 I cannot find the ctrl+D as repeat last action.
I cannot even find the repeat last action (... again) anywhere.
No keyboard shortcut for this command, and no traces of it anywhere.

Try using copy and paste attributes.

  • Using script on multiple files in a folder.

THis has GOT to be easy, but I can't figure it out.
Walgreens wants you to email photos to them, but I usually do like 50 photos at a time. So, I created a script that takes an object and emails it. The problem is, I don't know how to do it to one photo, then the next, etc. It will do all the photos, but that is one HUGE email!
So that's my question. How do I get the script to run individually on multiple files?
    Thanks in advance.
    Dave

Copy, paste, edit (where appropriate), and save - the code below as an application (AppleScript applet):
    -- Code starts here --
    property toAddress : "[email protected]"
property tSubject : "Please process my photo(s)."
    on run {}
my send_Photos(choose file with multiple selections allowed)
    end run
    on open (dItems)
    my send_Photos(dItems)
    end open
    on send_Photos(tItems)
    with timeout of 0 seconds
    tell application "Mail"
    repeat with i in tItems
    try
    set tMessage to make new outgoing message with properties {visible:true}
    tell tMessage
    make new to recipient at end of to recipients with properties {address:toAddress}
    set subject to tSubject
tell application "Finder" to set fname to displayed name of i
set content to ("Attached is the photo: '" & fname & "'." & return & return)
tell content to make new attachment with properties {file name:i} at end of last word of last paragraph
    send
    end tell
    end
    end repeat
    end tell
    end timeout
    end send_Photos
    -- Code ends here --
Double click on the applet and select the desired file(s), or drag the desired file(s) onto the applet - for further processing.

  • Changing multiple file permissions - Applications folder

After using migration assistant in Snow Leopard and then changing the username of my primary user, all third party apps in my Applications folder require me to enter the admin password when moving, updating with Sparkle, etc. They don't seem to have a primary owner.
I saw the steps outlined here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1778969 for changing permissions on multiple files but I'm wary of doing this on the Applications folder.
Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this? I went through files individually and i'm still getting messed up permissions all over the place. Thanks!

DO NOT use "apply to enclosed items" on the main Applications folder! Do not use it on any system created folders. they often have hidden ACLs and using this button would propagate the ACLs to everything inside. this is the case for the main Applications folder. there is no easy way to do what you want because Apple changed the permissions structure in Snow leopard and the default applications no longer have read+write access by admin users by default. I would suggest you don't mess with permissions on Applications. if you ever need to update a 3rd party application simply delete the existing copy in /Applications and put the new one in. it will have correct permissions.

  • To read multiple files in sample folder

How to read multiple files in a same folder?.
can you give me some guidance?.

    Additionally,
    1. Use methods of the File class to create an array
    of the file names
    2. Stop reading when at the end of the array. That assumes you want all the files in the directory.
If not, just pass in an array containing the names of the desired files.

  • Illustrator CS6 gets error when opening AI files - Mavericks 10.9

I installed Mavericks yesterday ... lucky me, to be guinea pig in the office for this upgrade.
Am having issues with Illustrator. First it wouldn't open and had to runt he Java install, that took care of that. I am able to make new files without problem and open EPS files, but cannot open existing AI files UNLESS going to File > Open. If I double click on an AI file I get the error "The appliation can't be found"
After looking for similar issues I am not finding anyone else reporting a similar problem. I am not running any 3rd party plug ins. Any ideas???
    Thanks for the help.

    Issue:
Clients logging into File Services over SMB with OS X 10.9 experience hanging connection upon login attempt.
    Root Cause:
OS X 10.9 now utilizes a new SMB2 stack written by Apple.   Apple's SMB2 implementation is not compatible with many other SMB2 NAS products on the market today while Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 works just fine.   In short, its an Apple bug.
    Workaround Option 1:
To force your connection to be SMB1, simply type cifs://servername instead of smb://servername when connecting to a Windows or NAS share.  This is by far easier and requires no real configuration changes.
    Workaround Option 2:
To force all connections to be SMB1:
    Open A terminal window
paste in the following line followed by the return key(should be all on one line):
    echo "[default]" >> ~/Library/Preferences/nsmb.conf; echo "smb_neg=smb1_only" >> ~/Library/Preferences/nsmb.conf
    What the command does:
Creates a file called nsmb.conf  in your  home directory at the path ~/Library/Preferences/nsmb.conf.
Adds directives to force SMB connections to use the SMB1 protocol.  This is slower but stable.
    How to remove the workaround:
    Open a terminal window
paste in the following at the prompt and then hit the return button:
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/nsmb.conf
    Notes:
Its a good idea to restart your mac before trying to connect to your storage again. This will clear any hung SMB processes from previous attempts to connect to your storage before implementing this workaround.
