Illustrator CS6 - Selection Tool drag lag?

Does anyone else experience lag when dragging the Selection Tool around (for instance, when dragging to select multiple objects on the screen) in Illustrator CS6? When I drag the Selection Tool, Illustrator takes a second to show the dotted line. It doesn't prevent me from working, but it is pretty annoying.
The weird part is, it only seems to happen when I create a new document using a "Video and Film" profile (any of the sizes). When I create a new document using a "Print" profile or "Web" profile (again, any size), the Selection Tool acts fine— there's no lag.
I'm on an iMac 3.4ghz 32gb ram, so I don't think it could be the computer itself.
Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the tip! I tested out creating a new document with no preset profile, and it worked— no Selection Tool lag. I guess the problem I was encountering was only specifically with the "Video and Film" profile, so I'll just avoid using that. From now on, I'll stick to creating a custom profile when making a new document!

Try using Cmd(Ctrl)-Opt(Alt)-Shift upon restarting AI to reset the Preferences.

Illustrator CS - Selection Tool not working correctly

Hi all...
A customer of ours has an odd Illustrator CS problem. When she tries to use the Selection Tool to select any item, it auto-selects everything. Even if she uses the selection box by dragging the cursor over anything, it selects all the different items in the image.
Has anyone seen this or fixed it before?

How about this?...
With the selection tool/black arrow tool, you can select the object, change the color or opacity and move it...but can't un-group it.
With the direct select tool/white arrow tool, when you try to select an individual shape to make slight changes to the path...the anchor points will show up as you mouse over them, but nothing shows when you click on the path.
When drawing a new shape with the pen tool, the anchor points don't show as you draw the shape. No handles appear...but the shape shows up. It's like feeling your way around a dark room on instinct.
...and it's only doing this in one particular file. When another file is opened all the quirks listed above do not happen. Each tool works as it should.

Illustrator CS6 - hidden tools do not appear

Normally a double-click on certain tools in the tool palette will reveal other tools hidden within it. For example, the direct selection tool (white arrow), when double-clicked will reveal the group selection tool. Double clicking has suddenly failed for me and I can not reach any of the hidden tools. Anybody know how to fix?

You may try 4) or 6) on the list. 4) is more thorough than 3) which you have tried already. 6) is the ultimate cleanup.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

In psd CS6 selection tool problems

Please help, since upgrading to CS6 (I had CS5 before, which I loved), I have had the following problems: 1. the elipse tool will not let me drag it to a circle, it remains an elipse. 2. My polygonal lasso tool will not automatically deselect when I begin another selection, which is greatly slowing me down, as I have to deselect and then reselect. Yet the regular lasso and magnetic lasoo work properly. 3. My rectangle marquis tool will deselect when I make a new selection, but it will not let me drag it to where I want it (a minus sign appears) - I have to use my arrow to move it, yet the elipse tool will let met drag it over, although it has the other problem of not being a circle. I have had all the versions of psd since day one, and never had these problems. I do not use too many shortcut keys. I am wondering if I accidentally hit some keys that messed everything up? I hate to re-set psd because I have all my styles and brushes, etc. set the way I want. Please help, I have 1000's of images to photoshop and I depend on these tools!

In case of mysterious issues you could always try trashing prefs by pressing command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift while starting Photoshop until the appropriate dialog appears after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed.

Cs6 selection tool

I have downloaded a trial version of cs6 and for some reason i can't see the marching ants when i make a selection, i can use the marquee tools and draw the selection, and the marching ants are there,but as soon as i let go of the mouse the ants dissapear, i have tried clicking and unclicking the selection edges in view but that makes no difference.

Illustrator CS6 bucket tool has disappeared -- there is no flyout menu on the gradient tool

This happened suddenly. I've closed and restarted Illustrator several times. Still no paint bucket tool / flyout menu on gradient tool. Any advice?

Illustrator CS6 Eyedropper tool SHIFT + CLICK no longer works!

SHIFT + CLICK with the eyedropper tool does not apply color as it is supposed to anymore. It shows the color as applied according to the fill and stroke in the tool bar, but the object itself does not reflect that. This function worked perfectly up until recently and is now not working for no apparent reason. I use Windows 7. Everything is OK with the eyedropper options, all my updates are current. HELP!

Everything is checked in the eyedropper tool option menu (appearance, character style, paragraph style). The tool ITSELF works just fine. However it is when I'm sampling a color while holding down shift that no longer works.

Illustrator CS6 width tool bug - Adobe do you even listen????

I've asked about this couple months ago and infact others have mentioned it nearly 2 yrs ago and Adobe has done nothing about it to address the issue. The very basic functionality of adobe to even draw a stroke with a width profile assigned to it results in straight lines or profile points magically appearing on the stroke when in theory it should just be a smooth curve. is there ever going to be a fix for this? There aren't even plugins addressing this issue, yes I looked in the hope maybe there is one. If you're going to tellme the solution is to use roughen thats a load of crap because that doesn't do it either. If you're asking me to simplify every ******* stroke with a default width profile applied to it, you're out of your mind. I've got something close to 200 of these strokes that have to be done one by one and if your stroke width profile didn't have a bug, things would've taken less than 30 mins.2 yrs and no fix for something so basic.

Has no one else encountered this issue? It may just as I'd feared! Haha. Like I said, all of the other Adobe products have normal splash screens, so I don't think a driver issue really makes sense. Why would it only be affecting Illustrator and not Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc? I really hope I don't have to just chuck my computer off a bridge. Any other feedback would be much appreciated!

Problem with Selection Tool

I've used Adobe CS2 for awhile now - but after switching computers and installing Adobe CS2 Illustrator - the selection tool fails to work correctly.
Problem: When an object (such as a shape like a box) is selected with the selection tool (black arrow), I am unable to resize it. Same goes for text boxes.
To be more specific, when the selection tool is placed on the box's side it turns into a triangle arrow top without the the line attached to it. When I looked it up in help it said that the selection tool should only change to the triangle arrow top "when it is over a selected object or group." Under normal circumstances the selection tool changes to a double arrow and allows me to change the size of the box's side.
Any ideas???
Obviously not being able to adjust the size of objects makes using Abode difficult.

The two selection tools in CS6 Illustrotor not working properly. They don't select the object when I click and drag a box around them and the handles on drawing path won't stay highlighted when I use the direct selection tool so I can adjust them -- Worked in Illustrator for about 12 years and never had this problem.

Illustrator 2014 CC crashes (while dragging with selection tool)

I don't have any 3rd party plugins as far as I can tell
I've tried restarting the app, restarting the computer, clearing preferences, closing the laptop lid, closing other apps, removing plugins, etc. Restarting the computer actually worked for a few minutes, but then it started crashing again.
To reproduce:
1. Create a new file or open existing.
2. Create a square.
3. Drag with the selection tool.
4. App crashes.
I've seen many other threads with the same problem, but none of them were solved.

Sticky selection tool in Adobe Illustrator CS6 with Wacom Intuos 5 on Windows 7

Just upgraded to Illustrator CS6. Sadly, my Intuos doesn't get along. When using the select tool, it doesn't 'release' the selection rectangle when it should (when the pen is raised). It does this when the pen is raised while moving. Then the selection rectangle 'sticks' to the cursor until, 1-the pen is lifted far from the tablet until it is no longer recognized, and 2-the pen is held perfectly still for a fraction of a second. This only happens in illustrator. It happens with the select tool and the direct select tool.
I've contacted Wacom about the issue, but I figured I should inquire here to see if anyone is having similar issues, or if a fix can be suggested.
I'm using the latest wacom driver (6.3.5w3) and Illustrator CS6 is up to date (16.0.3). Failed troubleshooting steps: disabling wacom touch tablet service, disabling windows pen & tablet service, trying different versions of wacom drivers, adjusting pressure sensitivy settings.

I solved my own issue. I saw an article @ http://www.lightroomforums.net/showthread.php?19694-Spot-removal-tool-doesn-t-work-with-Wa com-Intuos-5-in-LR-5 that solved my issue.
Step 1:

Click on Customize and change the default line graph from this:

After that, my spot edit tool stopped freezing in LR 5.2 while i was using my intuos 5 pen.

So it's possible that both need to be done in order for the freezing to stop. I hope this can help others.
