Illustrator CS6 width tool bug - Adobe do you even listen????

Hi,
I've asked about this couple months ago and infact others have mentioned it nearly 2 yrs ago and Adobe has done nothing about it to address the issue. The very basic functionality of adobe to even draw a stroke with a width profile assigned to it results in straight lines or profile points magically appearing on the stroke when in theory it should just be a smooth curve. is there ever going to be a fix for this? There aren't even plugins addressing this issue, yes I looked in the hope maybe there is one. If you're going to tellme the solution is to use roughen thats a load of crap because that doesn't do it either. If you're asking me to simplify every ******* stroke with a default width profile applied to it, you're out of your mind. I've got something close to 200 of these strokes that have to be done one by one and if your stroke width profile didn't have a bug, things would've taken less than 30 mins.2 yrs and no fix for something so basic.

Has no one else encountered this issue? It may just as I'd feared! Haha. Like I said, all of the other Adobe products have normal splash screens, so I don't think a driver issue really makes sense. Why would it only be affecting Illustrator and not Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc? I really hope I don't have to just chuck my computer off a bridge. Any other feedback would be much appreciated!

Finding the 'Width Tool' within Adobe Flash Professional CS6

Hello there, I'm new onto the software; Adobe Flash Professional CS6, and hoping to find some answers onto this community.
I would like to know how to get access with the 'Width Tool', that I've notice I don't have available onto my tool panel.
I have also check with 'Customize Tools Panel' and it doesn't seem it exist...

Width Tool BUG! Come on people, nobody is flipping about this???

I'm making an infographic and as I was working with the width tool I've noticed some strange thing: I set a couple of anchor width points precisely, but for some reason there's a thinner part all the time:
From 30pt (wide green part) it supposed to to go back to 6pt (top left width tool point) and keep that width until another point, and it eventually does, but with a thinner part between. No matter how many points I add the little curve stays there.
The stroke line is set to one side only (inside the width tool options). Maybe that is what causing the problem?
It always happens if the line is decreasing in width as well:
At the red line the width is 30pt (and it should be all the way) but a "bump" is clearly visible before the width tool point. And if I hover the width tool it always shows bigger width than it supposed to be, sometimes even up to 4-5 points bigger.
I'm using Illustrator CC 2014.0.0
Can anyone reproduce this phenomenon? It is not a super big bug, but aesthetically speaking it is a big no-no.
What the F is going on? Adobe?

That is a false assumption. It seems that Illustrator is trying to preserve the smoothness of the curve by making the line thinner in between two points of the same width, but I agree, they should rework the algorithm to make it work more intuitively.

CS6 width tool issues

Hi,
Since CS5, I've been using the width tool a lot to speed up my workflow (I have to vectorize a lot of hand drawn cartoons). It always worked perfectly. But since my company upgraded to CS6, I'm experiencing very annoying issues with it.
First of all, the quality of the curves is sometimes very bad: when I add a width control point on a curve, the stroke becomes very sharp, like a low detail polygon. It seems to happen randomly, or at least there is no relation between the size of the curve and how much it is affected.
And it is not an on-screen preview issue, since when I expand the stroke the shape stays exactly the same.
Here is an example, the highlighted curve doesn't look smooth anymore...
And then there is another big issue, that others seem to have reported here, about the position of the width control point: when I add a control point with the width tool, it appears somewhere else on the curve. But if I want to select the control point again, I have to click at the exact spot where I added it. So changing the point's width or position become terribly frustrating, and on complex drawings it becomes almost impossible to do so...

On a previous thread here, there seemed to be a simple solution (and the thread was marked as "solved"): removing Illustrator's prefs file. I tried it, no improvement. I also tried a full reinstall of CS6, then of my OS, upgrading from OSX Snow Leopard to Lion, with no results.
It seems to affect all other machines with CS6 installed in my company (MacPros running Snow Leopard or Lion). Could it be hardware related ? I'm running out of options, and is it really sad that we have to keep CS5.5 installed, because this tool became very important in our workflow...

Wherever you wish to define/change the Width, you need an Anchor Point. I believe you can (Smart Guides being your friends):
1) Create an Anchor Point at each spot where you wish to have a specific width, such as the starts and ends of the thickest parts, you probably have them already;
2) Use the Add Anchor Point Tool on the thick side right next to each existing Anchor Point (from 1)), and set the same Width;
3) Use the Direct Selection Tool and ClickDrag the Anchor Point from 2) to coincide with the Anchor Point from 1).
And the same for the thinner/thinnest part(s).
That is basically the same way as when you create a gradient with hard stops, such as a two colour fill in one object.

Try using Cmd(Ctrl)-Opt(Alt)-Shift upon restarting AI to reset the Preferences.

Illustrator CS6 - Selection Tool drag lag?

Does anyone else experience lag when dragging the Selection Tool around (for instance, when dragging to select multiple objects on the screen) in Illustrator CS6? When I drag the Selection Tool, Illustrator takes a second to show the dotted line. It doesn't prevent me from working, but it is pretty annoying.
The weird part is, it only seems to happen when I create a new document using a "Video and Film" profile (any of the sizes). When I create a new document using a "Print" profile or "Web" profile (again, any size), the Selection Tool acts fine— there's no lag.
I'm on an iMac 3.4ghz 32gb ram, so I don't think it could be the computer itself.
Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks for the tip! I tested out creating a new document with no preset profile, and it worked— no Selection Tool lag. I guess the problem I was encountering was only specifically with the "Video and Film" profile, so I'll just avoid using that. From now on, I'll stick to creating a custom profile when making a new document!

Illustrator CS6 : CADtools 8 bug avec la mise à l'échelle

Voilà, j'ai illustrator CS6 et CADtools8. Quand je créé une forme, je rajoute les dimensions souhaitées avec CADtools, jusque là rien d'extraordinaire.
Cependant quand je dois faire un rapport avec cette forme, je la mets à l'échelle, pour que ça rentre dans ma feuille. Seulement, CADtools 8 recalcule les dimensions que j'ai mis. Autrement dit, il est trop intelligent et recalcule toutes les dimensions alors qu'elles doivent rester les mêmes.
Auriez vous une solution ? Ai-je louper quelque chose ?

Apple says Java 6 is very insecure and not to use it. I have the latest Java installed. Why won't Illustrator launch? What else can I do?

Adobe Illustrator CS6 Splash Screen Bug

Hello, everyone!
Sorry to bother with such a seemingly insignificant issue, but I have been Googling this for literally over a year, and it's finally come to a head, and I just need to know what the trouble is. I've never been able to find someone else who has had this issue, and it's making me feel like I'm crazy. Here's what has happened. When I was using CS5.5, I never had any issues as far as functionality, but I always l dealt with this simple, nagging bug.
For some reason, the Illustrator [ONLY ILLUSTRATOR] splash screen always displayed the loading commands with this glitched-out looking white blocky outline. I endured it for a whole generation, and just longed for the day I could upgrade and be free from this random, inexplicable aberration. Well, as luck would have it, I finally was able to upgrade this year, and I even upgraded the OS to Windows 8, but lo and behold, the white corruption is still with me.
Sigh. Has anyone else ever seen or heard of this? I've reinstalled the entire package five times or more. I've used the Adobe Cleaner Tool, I've done everything I can imagine. On the Mac side of my PC, I have no issues. Any help or insight you could offer would be much appreciated.

Illustrator CS6 - hidden tools do not appear

Normally a double-click on certain tools in the tool palette will reveal other tools hidden within it. For example, the direct selection tool (white arrow), when double-clicked will reveal the group selection tool. Double clicking has suddenly failed for me and I can not reach any of the hidden tools. Anybody know how to fix?

You may try 4) or 6) on the list. 4) is more thorough than 3) which you have tried already. 6) is the ultimate cleanup.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

Illustrator CS6 has some bugs

I just got Illustrator and have been watching some tutorials to get me started. Anyway, I've been watching several tutorials on paths and the pen tool. I noticed that whenever I hover my cursor over the anchors, it doesn't say "anchor" or do anything at all. There are also some other problems with the pen tool. For instance, it won't bring up a menu when I click on it.
Last but not least, there is this VERY annoying large grey space that appears randomly when I use the Selection and Direct Select Tool. It works like a brush, when I move the cursor, it makes more large grey sections throughout the screen. Please, Please help me!

Illustrator CS6 bucket tool has disappeared -- there is no flyout menu on the gradient tool

This happened suddenly. I've closed and restarted Illustrator several times. Still no paint bucket tool / flyout menu on gradient tool. Any advice?

Try the Shape Builder tool. Click and hold until the options appear.

Photoshop CS6 Type tool bug solution for special characters move to beginning of string of text

Just started happening and it will not go away. Tried deleting test box and start over and same issue. Bracket ) moves to beginning of string but letters are fine.

Illustrator CS6 Eyedropper tool SHIFT + CLICK no longer works!

SHIFT + CLICK with the eyedropper tool does not apply color as it is supposed to anymore. It shows the color as applied according to the fill and stroke in the tool bar, but the object itself does not reflect that. This function worked perfectly up until recently and is now not working for no apparent reason. I use Windows 7. Everything is OK with the eyedropper options, all my updates are current. HELP!

Everything is checked in the eyedropper tool option menu (appearance, character style, paragraph style). The tool ITSELF works just fine. However it is when I'm sampling a color while holding down shift that no longer works.
