Illustrator cursor / screen pixelation

hi there people
two things that are bugging the hell out of me
if anyone knows the answer it would be greatfully received
1. the cursor for the pen tool is a cross, it used to be a pen. the pen icon shows but only when the caps lock is on.
i know this is wrong and as wondering what i can do to change it / toggle it back.
2. The screen resolution is pixelating. Ithought this was a font problem, and it is kind of. But today ive noticed that more
things when i go over 100% start to pixelate. again this is wrong as you should be able to scale up eps's with clear
vision.
can someone help me as its really messing with my head
thanks
G
ps. example of path pixelation attached, i cant screen grab the cursor for obviously reasons but its showing
up as a small thin diagonal cross.

well i got one thing sorted the path cursor.
i tried the anti-aliasing in prefs but nothing
in actual fact it got worst when i toggled it on.
im still not getting a true visual for the anti aliasing.
i am running a legal copy (of course) and i just re-installed
illustrator CS3 (mac based btw)
but im stuck with very very bad working space due to this
problemo
anythign more to try?
G
ps. another screenshot of my anti aliasing business.

I am having sporadic issues after new hard drive install and recovery using Time Machine. The same sluggish response, start up screen pixelating...If I reinstall Lion will it wipe out other applications? My HD was formatted and partitioned correctly, I have a late 2009 iMac.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Screen pixels detection problem

    Hi,
I have a quite noisy screen image with all screen pixels on. I need to detect all pixels from the screen but i have problems to find them all. So, my question is if it is possible to detect all 8192 pixels from the picture? I know it is possible to do in parts where I draw ROIs separately to objects which are not found by Detect Objects step but this is not very professional. Is there any way to process image to ease the detection? I tried couple of methods but none worked perfectly. See attachments.

The first thing I would do is calibrate the image to remove any distortion.  After that, if you know the coordinates of all four corners you can easily step through all the points using a grid approach.  You could do centers or edges, doesn't really matter.
Of course, this would all need to be done in LabVIEW.

  • Cursor ove, pixel by pixel

I'm a novice at this, so bear with me. In older Macintosh systems there was a program called "Easy Access." At that time, this program allowed for a keyboard function that allowed you to move the cursor pixel by pixel (a benefit for unsteady arthritic hands). The command was: Shift-Command-Clear (from the numeric keypad). Then the zedro key activated this function, and the period key cancelled it. The up and down arrows on the numeric keypad then moved the cursor up or down, and the left and right arrows moved the cursor left or right. does this function still exist, and if so, how do I use it? I may have gotten the older commands mixed up, but would appreciate any help with this.

I have checked the Universal Access options, but I don't see anyting that specifically relates to what I want to do. I would like to use the up, down, left, and right arrows on the keyboard to move my cursor one pixel at a time in any of those directions. Perhaps I have missed something, but I don't see that capability. any suggestions?

  • Screen pixelation

So i got a lenovo yoga 2 and after a while of it having great screen clarity it randomly starting having pixelation on the screen. It even has the occasional line go horizontally across the screen. My screen resolution is all the way up and I already restarted it. The issue is kind of hard to explain but was wondering if anyone else had a similar issue or knew how to help. -Thanks Cam

    Hi @willy4948 ,
I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC and issues with the screen flickering or displaying dots.  Here is a link to a document that will help you troubleshoot the image on screen flickers, has lines or distorted colors.
Have you connected the Notebook to a monitor? Here is a document on how to connect to a monitor if you need it.
Here is a document on overheating as some dust and debris might be causing the screen pixelation.
I hope something here helps you, please let me know how it goes.
    Thanks.

My iPhone 6 wont come on when home button is pressed and screen pixels out and fades.  Any one have fix or same problem?
When I press the home page the screen activates but stays black.  I have to press the side button to turn if off then may have to repeat several times to get my phone to come on.  Sometimes while using the phone the screen will become pixelly and start to fade away leaving a white screen with vertical line on it.  I have to use the close button to make it go away.

If one of the two major buttons of your phone is broken, it is unfair to expect normal operation to be available. The first resolution to any problem involves a usable Home button, as does the second option for resolving any problem.  Get your Home button fixed.

Try these methods while disconnecting all third party peripherals from the system. So ensure that the second display is disconnected from the iMac as well during these procedures and attempt starting the system with nothing but the Keyboard/Mouse plugged in.
We're going to essentially attempt to reset all the electronics and firmware on board the system to see if we can't get it to restart, let me know if this works for you Neil.

  • My vector drawings in illustrator cs3 look pixelated plz see screenshot

**** Notice the side of the girls hair its very serrated and somewhat blurry as well look down at her arm at the very bottom
I am using a mac os x version 10.5.8 and have been using Illustrator cs3 that I purchased for about 2 years and its never had this problem till now. I've just recently noticed a few days back that my vector drawings created in illustrator are looking serrated on the edges of my drawing, and this jagged serrated line goes all along the sides of the vector image and doesn't seem to go away when I zoom in or out......
And from what I know vector drawings created in illustrator can be resized and never pixelate but i don't know why its doing this.
I've searched online for all the possible remedies but nothing seems to get rid of that serrated line which makes my images look fuzzy on the sides.
I've made sure that I'm in preview and not pixel preview but that didn't work.
I went to my illustrator preferences to make sure that anti-aliasing is checked but that didn't seem to fix it either.
I went under the effects menu and clicked on Document Raster Effect Settings and changed that to 300ppi but that didn't do it either.
And also when I take my vector drawing from illustrator into photoshop, the serrated lines become more evident. I don't know what to do. The strange thing is that when i print the images out from my printer, the serrated edges don't show up.
But here's the thing: when I open up my past work that I created in illustrator when I wasn't having this problem, for some reason they are also now showing up with that serrated line on the edges, its really weird!!!!!
I've tried everything except for reinstalling the software, but just wanted to know if someone could help me before I tried this step or knew of something that might have gone wrong.
I also downloaded illustrator trial version cs5 today, and its doing the same thing as my illustrator cs3!!!!
    Plz help!!!

I was experiencing the exact same thing in Illustrator CS5. There was a pixelated edge on a vector drawing that was showing up. At first I assumed it was an anti aliasing setting or pixel preview or document raster settings as you did. Then because all else failed I was about to assume it was a screen artifact or bug of some kind.
However, the upon further analysis I found the solution-and it was right under my nose. I had applied an effect to the vector object (an outer glow) and–because I was going to scale it down drastically from the size I had originally drawn it at –I had gone to the object menu and expanded the appearance of the object which caused my outer glow effect to become a rasterized shape underneath my original object.
To remedy this: I simply zoomed in on the pixlelated object, selected it, ungrouped it, selected the top vector object path, nudged it to the right–REVEALING THE RASTERIZED SHAPE BENEATH!
So I would reccomend you try two things:
First select the view menu and choose "Outline" (command or control Y), then look to see if you have any solid "blocks" -this could indicate a rasterizing of some sort has taken place underneath your vector objects. To get back to regular display just choose "overprint from the view menu.
Secondly, you could select the vector object that appears pixelated and then check in the "Appearance Panel" to see if an effect (such as a drop shadow or outer glow) has been applied ,possibly inadvertently. Because just the applying of an effect will cause a "pixelated, jaggy edge" when viewed at high zoom percentages, or indeed any resolution for that matter.
    Hope this helps-

  • IMac screen pixelated and unreadable at startup...what's going on?

This morning when I started my computer for the day, I noticed that the wallpaper was very pixelated, almost like a transparent Photoshop layer.  When I moved the cursor all I saw was a pixelated box and I was unable to interact with any folders/icons.  I had to turn off the computer using the power button but when I restarted, the screen looked even worse - pink pixels on top and black ones on bottom.  I am having to use my iPhone to post this and while I took a few pictures of the screen I cant figure out how to post them here.  Another restart showed the same thing so I've left it turned off... It was behaving normally just last night!  Can anyone help me, or am I going to have to haul it into my local Apple store?  Thanks!

It's possible that the GPU is damaged. The only thing you can do is to take the Mac to an Apple Store or reseller, so they will tell you if it's a GPU or display issue and the cost of the repair

  • Cursor, screen operation, etc

I can barely use my laptop. Sometimes the screen starts moving up and down by itself. Sometimes I click on something multiple times and nothing happens. Sometimes the cursor transforms into a round circle that is not enabled to click on anything. I waste a huge amount of time on this, and I cannot figure out what is going on. My wife is telling me it's Windows and I should just buy a Mac. Any ideas? She bought this laptop for me a few months ago. I need it to function well. Thanks! I am not sure what operating system it is. Also, many times the screen I'm working on just disappears, and the basic screen of the computer with all the icons on it appears. I have to click the key on the keyboard which has those 4 squares on it, and then I have to click on the desktop icon, and then I get back to the screen I was working on. I have no idea what the cause of any of this is. Some people said it's because I have big hands/fingers, but I can type very accurately and quickly. I am careful not to touch anything else when I touch the keypad. Someone at Staples suggested I buy a wireless mouse, which I tried to install. I bought a Logitech. I plugged in the receiver into a USB port, but after that I expected the wireless mouse to take over, but nothing happened. The cursor was still controled from the mousepad. It's true that the wireless mouse had gotten wet. Maybe it isn't functioning. I had also bought a Logitech ergonomic mouse earlier, but someone apparentlyi threw out the receiver. Is each receiver coordinated with a specific mouse, or should they work interchangeably? Is there some other setting I need to change to override the control from the trackpad, so the external mouse can kick in? Also, I tried to look at the settings for the trackpad and cursor, and they seemed normal to me. Now I am typing in this template, and everything is fine. Nothing is moving around. Is that because I am inside a box of a template? But when I got to email, to any browser, to windows of websites, it because impossible to use. It takes me 100 clicks to order something on amazon, as the screen and cursor seem allergic to one another. If anyone has any ideas what I can do, please let me know. I am really bad at this. Thanks!

  • Vector art from Illustrator showing up pixelated in Photoshop

I am trying to copy art in Illustrator and paste it into Photoshop but  no matter what I do it's showing up pixelated or low resolution.
I have the Document Raster Effects setting in Illustrator set to 300 ppi.
When I copy the art and go to Photoshop and start a new document the clipboard preset says 72 ppi instead of 300.
I changed it to 300 but my art was still coming in low res.
Just found out that if I switch the units to inches from pixels in the new document window and then change the resolution to 300 it seems to work how I want it to.
Is there a setting that will copy the artwork in illustrator at 300 ppi so that when I start a new document in photoshop it will recognize the clipboard data as 300?
    Thank you

Vector art in AI has no set resolution. It is set only on output.

  • Startup Screen Pixelated - I really need help on this one.

    15" Macbook Pro - Spring 2011
My startup screen sometimes would be pixelated with the Apple logo and then would go to grey screen and do nothing... then I would be forced to shut down and power it up again. On two occasions, the bootup would have stripes on it. See photo.
And then the occasional lockup while working on something would happen and I was forced to power it down. This would happen periodically and not every day.
So... I had this problem a couple of months ago (for several months) and the Apple store kept my Macbook Pro for a few days and said there were reported no problems. They were clueless as to why I had the above screen show. They said... maybe it is a bad installation of the OS and that it got corrupted.
So a couple of months later and I am now I am having the same issues again. But this time, I had bought another HD and installed Mountain Lion on it... and I have it connected via USB. I had used it several times before last night when I held the option key down to choose my startup disk to be the new HD via USB. Then I get this pixelated screen again, but this time it was at the startup disk screen. See Photo.
It's like you have a car problem and you take it in to the shop only for it to not malfunction... I really need some guidance on this one. My AppleCare warranty just expired (was valid during my visit to the Apple Store)... And I am not a happy camper... I always use macs... and I teach everyone who has them how to use them.
So to be clear... This is the same internal HD that I had when I took it to the Apple Store. (Lion)
I installed Mountain Lion on a new HD connected via USB and have worked off of it for a few days with no problems, choosing it as a startup disk.
Last night booting with the option key held down I get this pixelated screen, whereas before it was never pixelated holding the option key down.
So I have a couple of questions:
Is the Boot Screen above run by the motherboard or the HD? If it is the MB, then I need to talk with Apple again.
Does anyone have any clue what is happening?I have reset my PRAM and switched out my RAM.
If this screen is run by the same HD in the laptop, then maybe I just need to take it out....?
I would appreciate any genius expertise. I am a little frustrated that I am having this problem and cannot narrow it down. I use my laptop extensively for presentation, graphics, and teaching and now I am afraid of it.

Your 10.7 EFI may be corrupted.
The way a Mac works is EFI is updated via Software Update, it's written to the OS X partiiton, then gets loaded into the hidden EFI partition and read/used upon the second boot.
So it takes two reboots to load EFI and goes into the EPROM boot memory.
My terminolgy might be inaccurate as I didn't take a Apple course for certification, but I understand a little about the boot stage from my Linux on Mac experience.
If your 10.7 EFI is corrupted on one drive, and you've got a 10.8 clean EFI on another, then it takes two reboots from the same drive to clear and use it's EFI into boot memory.
So if you've booted 10.7, then option booted to use 10.8, it could be the corrupted 10.7 EFI still in memory.
The way to fix the corrupted 10.7 EFI partition is a total wipe and format of the entire drive to catch the hidden EFI parition, then install 10.7 fresh and update.
Of course Apple made this difficult with Recovery Partition which won't allow a complete drive erase.
    However you can do this
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/08/08/lion-recovery-disk-assistant-tool-makes-external- lion-boot-recovery-drives/
There is also a way to install EFI firmware from a cd, however I don't know where it goes, reboot the 10.7 drive twice anyway
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL77
Since your out of warrantly, you might want ot just go ahead and repalce the internal drive and see if that fixes the problem.

  • Strage Screen Pixelation...bright green!!

Hi! I got the 17" MacBook Pro at the beginning of December, so it's only a few months old. This is my first Mac so any advice you give will have to be in baby steps! =) I have no idea what update I'm on or any of that stuff. =P But here's what happened.
Yesterday, when I woke it up and sat iton my lap the screen went black and there was this weird loud long beep. But it seemed to restart and work okay. But when I went to move it to my lap the screen turned to this strange neon pixelation. You could see little dots all around the edges and everything turned green...and it sorta moved like an old tv that's trying to find a station. I sorta jiggled it and the screen popped back to normal and seemed to work normal the rest of the night.
So tonight, I open it and wake it up and this same weird pixelation happens. And lasts much longer...regardless of the jiggling but again...sorta popped back to normal. I've tried to recreate it...but it won't do it again. But there seem to be random pixels all over the screen that are flickering/flashing.
Anybody have any idea what's going on?? I've fallen in love with this baby! I'm so sad about it!! I'm gonna have to take to the Apple store...aren't I? =(
OH...and yeah, I charged it last night...full charge. Used it for about 10 minutes....closed it like always...and this morning dead as a door nail. Any idea why that might have happened??
Can anyone help a little ole beginner like me?? Help?? Please??

If you only bought it in December then take adavantage of the warranty that comes with it. If you bought APP (good move) then great, if you didnt, it is still covered so take it to your nearest ASP. Sounds like you either have a defective LCD or LOGIC BOARD. My money is on the logic board. Let us know
    Hope this helps.

  • Imac 2013    screen/pixel of previous displayed image/application

    hi everyone,
just wondering if anyone got the same screen issue with the mac like i have?
if you stay on a page for a while, lets say iPhoto ...then when you change the page/application lets say to safari (bright background) i still can see some parts of iPhoto on the screen?!?!?   not very clear just like long vertical lines of pixel.
i dont realy know how to explain this issue and hope that someone out there understand what i mean.
it seem's like that the previous image burns into the screen and stays there for a while.
the whole issue is that i dont wanne take it in for a check up to the local retail store. its just a computer store who's selling apple gear and i did had a very bad experience with them!!  i live in a remote town and we don't have much choice of getting professional help.
if anyone knows what this screen issue is al about , or if i should take the mac to the store to get checked out please let me know.
I'm just s*&%t scared to go to this store!
    thanks
    Jonny B

I am thinking Jonny is having the same issue as me.   I have an iMac that just started with vertical lines too.  They are worse if I shut down the vs sleep mode.  As the computer warms up, they slowly fade away, but I still am left with 4 or 5 in various colors.   The one in the very center of the screen is the most annoying.  The others are on the left and one is on the right.   I am unable to capture them with photo capture or screen shot, and they are visible in every application.  (just less noticeable if the screens are white) Also I am unable to print them or capture with screen shots,  luckily, they don't print...   This is not a GPU problem.
If I am describing this correctly to you, then maybe you have the same problem as me, Mine is an LCD problem.  I have talked with several people, most recently, last week to someone at  Apple.   I was told that they used to have  a program to fix or replace  iMacs with this issue FREE, if they had serial numbers that started with W8..... BUT, it expired in Spring of 2011.  It was called EM80 maintenance.
He had me try a couple of different things one being something to do with  video.  But nothing has worked.  Another computer tech advised me to NOT  shut the iMac down as this is super hard on them.  Sleep mode only and make sure everything is backed up.
I am still hopefull they are wrong.  But just in case, I am backing up everything and looking for others like me that are trying to find a way to fix it.   If you don't have a serial number that starts with W8...you may be in luck, it is supposed to just be a video problem.
    Good luck.
