Illustrator delay after closing files

Question

Every time I close a file in Illustrator, it hangs for a good 30 seconds. It doesn't matter how large or small the file is or whether the clipboard is cleared. It also doesn't seem to matter how many files I have open. This really hinders my productivity. I've dumped the preferences with no luck. Installing more memory didn't help either. This has been happening for a while, so it was going on before I had Illustrator CC. I've done all updates.
It seems that the computers in our office with the Core 2 Duo processors have this problem but not the computers with newer processors. But management will not be buying us brand new computers, so we're stuck with the processors we have. I'm hoping that's not the sole reason.

iMac 27-in Late 2009
OS: 10.10.2 Yosemite
Processor: 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 16 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4670 256mb

And one more update. Even though I checked FAP4 updates via the application this morning it didn't indicate any new versions.
But I found that there is a new version FAP4 4.140, and this installs with new plugins which fix the problem. Now I can open up bunches of images without any delay.
