Illustrator - Erase a straight line (Mac not windows).

Illustrator - I am trying to tweak a logo so it has smooth edges, I am familiar with using the SHIFT key from a starting point and end point of  a eraser segment within Photoshop, however is there anything easy like this in Illustrator with using a mac?  I saw the windows forum answer suggesting the SHIFT + eraser can be done in a windows platform, but this does not work on my mac.
Any HELP?? Surely this is a simple answer?

Hey Thanks so much Cheryl!  .. That works perfectly ...I knew it must be
user-error on my end.
BTW - This is my first time posting on the forum, I think I need to
acknowledge that you answered my question somewhere, but I don't see that
option on this thread?.
Soooo, than you VERY much for your help,
Jo

  • Quicktime BUG Green line appears at bottom of movs on MAC not WINDOWS

    HELP!
    I've started to notice that a bright green line appears at the bottom of my movies. I import them into Macromedia Director and they still show, but after publising my projector for windows and viewing on a PC they disapear.
    Problems mainly on MAC but not i've had reports of problems of the weird green line on another PC.
    can anybody help?
    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    Open the movie in QuickTime Player. Pull down the Window menu and select "Show Movie Info". What is listed in the "Format" field?
    In that same window, is there a difference between "Normal Size" and "Current Size"? (You might also compare that size to the size shown on the Windows computer which does not display the green line.)
    What is the extension on the filename (.mov, .avi, .mpg etc.) ?
    Pull down the Window menu and select "Show Movie Properties" what tracks do you see listed?

  • Java.utils.prefs.Preferences API throws exception on Mac, not Windows

    This is a Mac-specific problem. Is it a bug, or am I misusing the java.utils.prefs.Preferences API?
    The Preferences flush() API call always throws a BackingStoreException if a system tree preferences root has been read. The system tree has not been modified or written to, but the flush() call is nevertheless throwing an exception. This occurs when running as a normal user without the ability to write to /Library/Preferences.
    See sample code below. Note that I only want to read the system prefs tree. The user tree write flush fails. If the system tree node is not created, the user flush() succeeds.
    Steps to Reproduce
    Delete any existing Java prefs files:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.java.util.prefs.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.mycompany.prefstest
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.java.util.prefs.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.mycompany.prefstest
    Run the following Java code:
    package com.mycompany.prefstest;
    import java.util.prefs.BackingStoreException;
    import java.util.prefs.Preferences;
    public class PrefsTest {
          * @param args
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              String strKey1 = "com/mycompany/prefstest/one/two/three/four/key1";
              Preferences systemRoot = Preferences.systemRoot();
              Preferences userRoot = Preferences.userRoot();
              // Get a value for user prefs.
              String value1 = userRoot.get(strKey1, "missing");
              // Fall back to system prefs if it is not defined.
              if (value1.equals("missing"))
                   value1 = systemRoot.get(strKey1, "missing");
              System.out.println("key1 --> " + value1);
              // If still not defined, set a user-specific value
              if (value1.equals("missing"))
                   userRoot.put(strKey1, "value1");
                   try {
                        userRoot.flush();
                        System.out.println("flushed prefs successfully");
                   catch (BackingStoreException e)
                        System.out.println("Exception: " + e.toString());
    Expected Results
    Should produce the output:
    key --> missing
    flushed prefs successfully
    Actual Results
    Console output is
    key --> missing
    Exception: java.util.prefs.BackingStoreException: Synchronization failed for node '/'

    Mac OS X 10.7.3.
    The "Expected Results" are correctly obtained running the same code on MS-Windows.
    Running the jar as sudo works (with write access to /Library/Preferences), as expected.

    Just for fun, try a key without slashes in it (but for example dots if you must use such a long key).
    I say that because a quick Google search points out that Apple stores the preferences in a file hierarchy in the user home folder. I can already see how using keys which look like a file path are going to cause nuclear reactors to meltdown...

  • Contribute freezing constantly on Mac, not Windows

    I have a customer trying to update her site on our server using Contribute. Not exactly sure of the version, but pretty sure it's CS5 (purchased about a year ago).
    When she tries to connect to the site, it will freeze at various stages requiring a Force Close. The crashes happen for no rhyme or reason but happen nearly every time she is trying to use the software.
    She has tried reinstallling the program, trashing preferences, using a different user account and nothing works. Adobe support was not helpful.
    I have had no trouble with Contribute on Windows - I just installed a trial version today which works.
    However, I installed a trial of the Mac version on one of my own machines and it too crashes - so clearly, it is not her computer and is something to do with the software.
    I have tried deleting all of the folders Contribute makes on the web server (starting with underscores) which did not help. Also tried using passive and active FTP modes and disabling performance optimization in Contribute.
    Any ideas?
    ***just to be clear, there must be some configuration of the server that the Mac version of Contribute doesn't like. I just can't figure out what that would be.

  • Need Adobe Elements 12 for Mac not Windows

    Hi:
    I managed to just buy Photoshop Elements 12 for Windows which doesn't help me on my Mac (OS 10.9.1). Can someone tell me how to convert this purchase to a Mac downlaod?
    Thank you!

    Interesting. Makes sense but the Adobe order site under my login says:
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 12
    US $79.99
    Upgrade, Windows, English, Download
    Quantity: 1
    It doesn't seem to give any option for a Mac download. Any advice as to how to get to the Mac download site would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

  • IPhone: Error "0xE8000025" when syncing in iTunes for MAC, not windows

    The "phone" speaker on my iPhone stopped working tonight, so I tried a power off, didnt work, so I tried a hard reset. Didnt work. So I restored the OS on my iPhone, now i get the 0xE8000025 error every time I try to connect, any one else have this problem or a solution?

    Yes, however, I was able to finally sync my phone, I don't know how it worked or what I did differently, I just restarted iTunes and it appeared, but my original problem (the phone speaker) still exists. When I turn on speakerphone, or when I use the headphone mic, I can hear the dial tone/conversations like normal, but I cannot use the phone otherwise.

  • Illustrator drawing straight lines crooked

    All straight lines in Illustrator appear crooked on my screen. This is hard to explain. I've been using AI since 1991 and have never seen this problem, which started happening out of the blue a few months ago, even though I have not changed anything on my system or setup. This problem doesn't happen in any other programs, including InDesign.
    Examples:
    Use the box tool to draw a box. The lines should be straight, but they are crooked. You know when you use the pen tool and draw a line without holding the Shift key, and the line is jagged where it isn't straight? Well, that's what my lines look like when they are supposed to be straight, like from a box.
    The lines are also crooked when I draw with the pen tool using the Shift key to constrain.
    Even the document frame is crooked. I took a screen shot of an example. Please see it at this link:

    All I had to do was ask others in order to figure it out myself! Hope this helps anybody else having this bizarre problem.

  • When I record an audio track, there is a waveform. When I stop recording, the waveform disappears and becomes a straight line. It also disappears from the track edit window. But the sound is there. How can I stop the waveform from disappearing?

    When I record an audio track using Logic Pro X, there is a visible waveform which appears as I record. When I stop recording, the waveform disappears and becomes a straight line. It also disappears from the track edit window. But the sound is still there. How can I stop the waveform from disappearing? And can I do something to view it after it has disappeared? Anyone know the anser?

    In Logic:
    Preferences/Audio Set Recording Delay to 0 <zero>
    This should always be set to zero unless a specific set of circumstances exist and you're audio drivers do not report position correctly.
    On occasion, usually when importing a Logic 9 project, Logic-X randomly changes this to a negative/positive number.  It's actually a bug in Logic, as it should always display the waveform.

  • Why can you run windows on a mac, but not mac on windows

    I dont understant why you can run windows on a mac, but not mac on windows.  Any help.  I would purchase OS X Mountain Lion if you gave me a way.

    Microsoft builds software to run on other companies' hardware, pretty much exclusively if you don't count the long line of failed devices: Zune, Windows phone, and now the Surface.
    Apple builds hardware. They support that hardware with their own operating system. It is designed to run only on their very tightly integrated hardware. Trying to write software for the plethora of crap being sold would be a failing proposition and would divert resources away from the great software they provide for their hardware customers.
    The hardware and software are very well engineered to provide the best possible experience.
    If you want to experience a Mac, buy a Mac.

  • Brush Problems with Illustrator CS4... the line does not draw with my mouse movement

    When I use any other brush besides the Calligraphic Brushes from the "Artistic Ink" brush library, I press down with either my Wacom Tablet or mouse, and the line does not appear to draw. Then I release the button on the mouse or lift my pen tablet up, the lines appears. Sometimes, a little "dot dot dot" line appears when the brush stroke it going to appear. But most of the time, it's just nothing, and then the line appears after I've drawn it.
    However, with the preselected brushed at the top, and the Calligraphic Artistic Brushes, the line appears as I am drawing it. This is what I want for the other brushes.
    Is this normal?! I just recently upgraded to Windows 7, and reinstalled the Adobe Suite. I can't remember if Illustrator did this before I reinstalled it, but I'm not sure it did otherwise it would have annoyed me as much as it does now. Can anybody help me?

    Hi!
    Hope I'm not hijacking this thread.
    First time posting to a forum.
    I'm having the same problem and followed the advice for changing the file name in the Illustrator CS# Settings folder.
    This solved the problem of seeing predicted brush paths for very basic brushs, but I still can't get a preview path for any of the ink brushs.
    I've seen video tutorials which demonstrate inking techniques and the ink brush predicted path was clearly working in those tutorials.
    I'm assuming therefore that I should be able to see some type of preview when using the ink brushs.
    Any advice would be great!
    Cheers!

  • Replace Mac line breaks with Windows linebreaks?

    Is there a simple AppleScript that could process a plain text file created on a Mac and replace the line breaks with Windows-compatible \r\n line breaks?
    I thought this would be a very simple task but have been searching for quite a while and can't find anything.
    Thanks.
    Paul

    There are several approaches to this. Here's one of them:
    set theFile to (choose file)
    set MacText to paragraphs of (read theFile)
    set {oldDelims, my text item delimiters} to {my text item delimiters, (return & linefeed)}
    set WindowsText to MacText as text
    set my text item delimiters to oldDelims
    set outputFile to (open for access theFile with write permission)
    set eof outputFile to 0
    write WindowsText to outputFile
    close access outputFile
    To explain, the first line asks you to choose the file in question - you could use any technique to identify the file, including hard-coding the path or using a drag-and-drop handler.
    The second line gets the current paragraphs and calls them 'MacText'
    The third line saves the current text item delimiters in oldDelims and sets the new text item delimiters to the CR+LF combination.
    The fourth line performs the magic of transforming the file. It does this by coercing the list of paragraphs (obtained in line 2) into a single text block, and it inserts the current text item delimiters between each text item, miraculously giving you CRLF-terminated paragraphs.
    The fifth line restores the text item delimiters to whatever they were before (you don't know what they were, but don't need to know what they were, as long as you restore the previous setting - it's unlikely you want CRLF moving forwards).
    The rest of the script (lines 6 through 9) reopen the file you originally selected, sets the EOF to 0 (effectively wiping the file contents), then writes the CRLF-terminated text to the file and finally closes the file.
    Note that some people might suggest using text item delimiters to break up the original text file on CRs but that would be wrong IMHO. The reason is that 'paragraphs of' can detect and handle both CR and CRLF-terminated paragraphs, leaving you with clean paragraphs into which you insert CRLFs.
    This means that if the file originally had CRLF-terminated paragraphs you'd end up with the same data, but at least there was no harm done.
    In contrast, if you simply searched for CRs and replaced them with CRLFs you could have the situation where you selected a CRLF-terminated file (maybe you didn't realize it was already in the Windows format) and your script would blindly replace each CR with CRLF, meaning you'd end up with CRLFLF combinations, which is very wrong.

    Have you tried booting from the Recovery HD to reinstall Lion?
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
    Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    You will need the Apple ID and password used to purchase Lion. If you have not purchased Lion, then you will need to purchase the Snow Leopard DVD and install Snow Leopard then update it to 10.6.8 to access the App Store where you can purchase and download Lion under your own Apple ID. Or you can purchase the Apple USB Lion installer flash drive at any local Apple retailer or the Online Store.
