Illustrator Export window: change defaults (CS6)

Hello everyone.
My clients are used to receive previews in JPG format from me. The export formats list begins with PNG though. Is there any way to change the default settings for the export dialogue window in AI? Just trying to make my work more automated these days and this tweak (if possible) will save significant amount of my time.
Action feature won't help, because you can't change the export location for each file.

I was able to get this to work:
1. create new action, name it & tell it what action set to put it in
2. Hit Record action
3. File>Export, point to the folder you want to store it in and change the Format to Jpeg. Hit Export then OK.
4. Stop recording in the actions panel
5. Then in the actions panel in the box to the left of the action's name click on the dialog box icon
Then you can play the action on any file, it will export the file as a jpeg then pause so you can change the directory or file name

  • Export window format changed, don't know why

    You know aperture is a love/hate relationship. What do I love? I became an advanced user fast, it's intuitive, but the bugs are just maddening and apple has never responded even once to my countless bug and crash reports. Apple has strayed so far from computing as it's central focus... the impression I get is they just don't care about my bug problems or if I stay an apple customer after owning that little baby Duo laptop, PowerPC, ibook and now MacBook Pro. I think that's sad. Just keep pushing the phones and ipods- Steve, and don't worry about me. I'll eventually just go away. That said, the format of the export window changed to first line: export preset, 2nd line: Subfolder Format, 3rd: "Grayed out" customer subfolder name, 4th: Name Format, 5th: Custom Name, 6th: File Name Example. To my knowledge, this new export window format changed without any action on my part. I don't like it because I can no longer just export it to the desk top without it being automatically put in a folder. The old export window format just had an option for tiff, jpg, psd and a name to type in and where it was heading. How do you get back this old export window format? This is baffling like the disappearing library in the trial version every time you shut down and restarted.

    Addressing your final remarks, I don’t see any problem. First: have your current Preset -> Image Export set to what you want in terms of JPEG or PSD etc. Second select the image(s) you want to Export. Select something like File -> Export -> Versions (or whatever you want). The Export panel defaults to the Desktop, and the images will be placed there - no folder is required.
    Maybe I’ve missed your point, but I don’t see any problem.

  • Change Default for Open New Template File In Adobe Illustrator

    How can I change the default folder when trying to "Open From Template".
    When I use the open from template it defaults to the template folder in the program folders.
    I want to change the default folder to a different location.
    Adobe Illustrator CS3 13.0.2

    Here's how to have your templates available in the "File New From Template" in Adobe Illustrator for Windows.
    What you need to have
    Administrator access to your machine.
    What you need to know
    The default directory for Adobe Illustrator templates is here (for CS5.1)
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS5.1\Cool Extras\en_US\Templates
    The default Windows security doesn't allow shortcuts to be created directly under that directory.
    You can, however, create the shortcut indirectly!
    What you need to do
    In Summary
    Create one (or multiple) folder shortcut(s) in the default Illustrator template directory.
    In Detail
    Open Illustrator
    Select File -> New From Template
    Drop down the "Look in" drop-down, note the directory:C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS5.1\Cool Extras\en_US\Templates
    Open a Windows Explorer, and navigate to that directory
    Open another Windows Explorer, and navigate to the directory where you keep your templates.
    Right-click-drag your folder from the second Explorer (your directory) to the first Explorer (default templates) and drop.
    Select "Create shortcut" from the right-click popup menu that appears when you "drop" (release the mouse button).
    Windows will display a message "Shortcut cannot be created here, do you want to create it on the desktop".
    Select Yes.
    Move the directory shortcut to the Illustrator to the first Explorer (default templates directory)
    Windows will ask for Administrator permissions.
    Select Yes.
    You can right-click on the template shortcut and rename it without the " - Shortcut" suffix; you'll have to grant Administrator permissions for that as well.
    After completing these steps, your template shortcut will appear properly and you can select it.  Happy designing!

    Latest Lithroom 5.6 does not recognize my .cr2 raw file format and Windows 7 it asociates with my older raw plug in in Ps CS5.5. I am not able to change default program for .cr2 in the properties pannel...
    every new released update of Lr from v 5.2 changed somethin in my Windows 7 Professional settings. I am stucked. Can somebody help me please? Many thanks. Andrej

    Hi Jim,
    yes after I imported my .cr2 raw files into new catalog it started to work. Windows 7 still does not recognize them but I can edit them as you said within the Lr5.6 and then export them into .psd or .dng files...as needed.
    I bought Lr5 only because I got present - my new camera Cannon 70D and because my older Photoshop CS5.5 raw plugin does not recognize. cr2 files.
    Many thanks for your help.

  • How to change Default Finder Windows Size?

    Hi all:
    New Finder windows show Macintosh HD and there is no problem in keeping the size or view options every time I open a new window (command + N).
    I can change "New Finder windows show" to another folder and works just as well.
    But when I open a folder in a new window (double click on an icon folder) the size of the window is very small and different from the window displayed by using command + N.
    Finder saves and applies default view options to all windows without a problem, but not the default size or in other words:
    default windows size is different from new finder windows size.
    In Snow Leopard I could change default size of all windows holding down the Shift key while dragging and changing the size but in Mountain Lion it does not work.
    I have also deleted all files .DS_Store but neither works.
    I searched a lot but can not find a solution to this problem.
    Thanks.

    As far as New Finder Windows (command+N) are concerned, there's no problem.
    All other folder's Finder Windows I have not modified manually are displayed with the default size shown in the attached image. That is the window size that I want to modify.
    Thanks.

  • Change default format in "save as" file format window

    I month ago I asked the following question...
    "How do I change the file format order that is listed in the "save as" file format window? Instead of having "Photoshop" listed as the default file, I'd like to have JPEG at the top, then TIFF, PSD, etc. I have to constantly scroll down the list to find JPEG."
    Recently while selecting JPEG in the "save as" format window, I accidently selected "Large Document Format" while holding down either "control", "option", "apple key", or "shift", or a combination of keys. Now the default format in the format window is "Large Document Format" (ext.PSB). I've changed the default from "Photoshop" which is still listed at the top, to "Large Document Format". I'd like to change the default to "JPEG" but I cannot replicate the correct key(s) to change the default format in the window.

    Hello TomGroup...
    I did not receive a satisfactory answer to the question. Yes, you can go
    into the Scripts but that is for experts and it is too much work.

    format window
    Any updates on this issue?
    I have a similar situation in that no matter what I'm working on, when I
    click "Save As' then the default format option is always .tiff    If I save
    as jpg and then go onto my next file, the default is still tiff again when I
    try to save  No matter what I try, tiff is also my default selection.  It's
    just one of those things that takes a mere 5 seconds to click the dropdown
    and select .jpg, but 5 seconds times a couple hundred files per day...it
    adds up.

  • Changing defaults in Illustrator CS4

    Hey folks... this was easier in CS1 and previous, but I was curious as to how to change defaults in Illustrator CS4? For example, I've customized my brush library and want to replace whatever the default brush file is with my customized brush file (for now, called, interestingly enough, brushes.ai) Where is the location of the (default brushes) file? Thanks!

    You can place your custom created files to the location
    \Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS5\Presets\en_US\Brushes

  • Change Default Soft Proof Color – Illustrator CS5.1

    Short Question:
    How to change the default soft color proof setting in Illustrator CS5.1?
    Backstory:
    Every time a document is opened in Illustrator CS5.1, it defaults to Working CMYK soft color proof. For those that work in web, the default soft proof color space of CMYK results in dull colors. This means that every time a new document is opened, the soft color proof settings need to be changed manually. There's got to be a way to change the default soft color proof settings in Illustrator? I know it's possible in Photoshop already.
    Many Thanks!

    You could try if either a custom Workspace or Document profile does the trick:

  • Change default Windows background during deployment

    I have a Windows deployment server up and running and deploying custom Windows 7&8 images which all work fine. I want to be able to change the default Windows background to a custom image during deployment so when a new user is created and logs in locally,
    my image is displayed rather than the default one. I know this can be done by changing an entry in the registry, but I would like some help in creating a script to do this during deployment and also where this script would have to be placed and how to run
    this. I am a noob at scripting and any help would be appreciated! ;)
    Thanks in advance

    I am using the process documented at the link below in my builds today with a lot of success. In addition to setting the background for every user, it will also allow for setting the colors and accents. Pretty good stuff from the guys at CoreTech.

  • How to change default action when a device is connected to Windows 8

    The first time I connected my Android phone to Windows 8, I selected an default action (view files in Windows Explorer.)
    Now I would like to change that default. Where/how do I do that?
    Thanks,
    Jim Kay
    Jim Kay

    From http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-8/autoplay-faq search in the start screen for Autoplay, go into settings and then click Change default settings for media or devices.
    Look through the list and find your phone (should be down at the bottom of the list) and change the action.

  • Illustrator provokes a change of Windows Appearance in Vista Ultimate !

    Under WinVista Ultimate, 4 GB RAM, Illustrator CS2
    Hello,
    I've noticed in the past few days that whenever I launch Illustrator, the windows appearance switches from Aero to Basic. Only Illustrator does this. When I quit Illustrator, then the Windows theme is switched back to Aero.
    Any ideas why?
    Thanks,
    Luke

    Hi Harron,
    Thanks for the reply. "Ben" of course I upgraded to the new service crap, I mean, pack....
    Hopefully, Adobe and MS will eventually speak to each other. It's ridiculous. I also have the "white page" icon instead of the orange icon to display my Illustrator files...
    Thanks,

  • Adobe Illustrator Export to JPEG (*.JPG) vs ICC Color Profiles vs Behance

    Hi,
    I work with Adobe Illustrator CC 2014. When I export my projects into *.JPG format (using both: 'Adobe Illustrator > File > Export' and 'Adobe Illustrator > File > Save for Web') I use ‘Embed ICC’ profile option. Every common image viewer I use (including web browsers and Adobe Bridge) respects those color settings and displays exactly what has been embedded. But when posting on Behance, my color settings are converted into something else! The only solution is to place my Adobe Illustrator file into a new Adobe Photoshop document , then export it into .JPG (with embedded color settings) and then post it to Behance. With this workaround my colors look pretty correct.
    Did someone experience the same and  could explain why Behance doesn’t respect the Adobe Illustrator export with embedded ICC profile settings?
    one thing more – even if my *.JPG produced with Adobe Photoshop (the correct one)  is displayed correctly, the cover photo (taken from the original) is still converted into different (Behance’s default??) color space. I believe this shouldn’t work this way. Is there any workaround to this? Is there any way my covers (miniatures) display the 'true' colors?
    Please advise
    Best Regards,
    Pawel Kuc

    ok. I give up. It seems that Adobe Illustrator can export only to the JPEG File Interchange Format (JFIF) and Behence doesn’t fully support this format (for example it cannot read its icc color data correctly):
    (JPEG) Formally, the EXIF and JFIF standards are incompatible. This is because both specify that their particular application segment (APP0 for JFIF, APP1 for Exif) must be the first in the image file. In practice, many programs and digital cameras produce files with both application segments included. This will not affect the image decoding for most decoders, but poorly designed JFIF or Exif parsers may not recognize the file properly (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEG_File_Interchange_Format#Exif_comparison)
    I’ve analyzed my files using JPEGsnoop 1.6.1 (really cool app by Calvin Hass, http://www.impulseadventure.com/photo/) and here is what I’ve found:
    A) *.jpg produced with Adobe Illustrator > File > Export > JPEG > ICC profile embedded:
    *** Marker: SOI (xFFD8) ***
    OFFSET: 0x00000000
    *** Marker: APP0 (xFFE0) ***
    OFFSET: 0x00000002
    length     = 16
    identifier = [JFIF]
    version    = [1.2]
    density    = 72 x 72 DPI (dots per inch)
    thumbnail  = 0 x 0
    B) *.jpg produced with Adobe Illustrator > File > Save For Web > JPEG > ICC profile embedded:
    *** Marker: SOI (xFFD8) ***
    OFFSET: 0x00000000
    *** Marker: APP0 (xFFE0) ***
    OFFSET: 0x00000002
    length     = 16
    identifier = [JFIF]
    version    = [1.2]
    density    = 100 x 100 (aspect ratio)
    thumbnail  = 0 x 0
    C) *.jpg produced with Adobe Photoshop > File > Save As > JPEG > ICC Profile embedded
    *** Marker: SOI (xFFD8) ***
    OFFSET: 0x00000000
    *** Marker: APP1 (xFFE1) ***
    OFFSET: 0x00000002
    length          = 1320
    Identifier      = [Exif]
    Identifier TIFF = 0x[4D4D002A 00000008]
    Endian          = Motorola (big)
    TAG Mark x002A  = 0x002A
    EXIF IFD0 @ Absolute 0x00000014
    Dir Length = 0x0007
    [Orientation ] = Row 0: top, Col 0: left
    [XResolution ] = 720000/10000
    [YResolution ] = 720000/10000
    [ResolutionUnit ] = Inch
    [Software ] = "Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 (Windows)"
    [DateTime ] = "2014:08:02 17:21:15"
    [ExifOffset ] = @ 0x00A8
    Offset to Next IFD = 0x000000D4
    EXIF IFD1 @ Absolute 0x000000E0
    Dir Length = 0x0006
    [Compression ] = JPEG
    [XResolution ] = 72/1
    [YResolution ] = 72/1
    [ResolutionUnit ] = Inch
    [JpegIFOffset ] = @ +0x0132 = @ 0x013E
    [JpegIFByteCount ] = 1006
    Offset to Next IFD = 0x00000000
    EXIF SubIFD @ Absolute 0x000000B4
    Dir Length = 0x0003
    [ColorSpace ] = sRGB
    [ExifImageWidth ] = 200
    [ExifImageHeight ] = 200
    So unfortunately the only option to produce the EXIF JPEG from an Adobe Illustrator project is to: Export *.ai file to JPEG (under Adobe Illustrator) > go to Photoshop > Create new project > Paste the *.jpg > and Sava As JPEG with icc embedded.
