Illustrator file saves as blank jpeg

HI everyone. I have a large illustrator file that I need to save as a jpeg for a table cloth printer. Every time I try to save the illustrator file as a jpeg the jpeg opens blank. Does any one know what might be going on? I've never seen this happen before.

Looks like that was it. I inherited this file from some one else and hadn't seen they built it over a template. It seems to work now although the jpg has a large white space at the bottom now.

  • How do I edit an illustrator file saved as a jpeg?

I have an assignment I'm working on, in my color theory class. I saved the file for web, but I didn't save the illustrator file as a copy to edit. Is there a way i can edit the original image, and reopen the layers?

So you exported the file from the Save for Web dialog and then closed the AI file without saving? If that was the workflow, then there is nothing you can do except recreate the file.

  • Illustrator file saves incorrect date

This problem just started out of the blue. Whenever I save illustrator files, the file date is 1/1/2000. Any ideas of how to fix this?

I just checked and it happens with Photoshop too. My guess is all Adobe products are affected. Word documents are not affected.

How works free method of illustrator restoration look below-
    1. Save the file to your local (C) drive, which will decrease the potential for issues. Open the file in other versions of Illustrator if possible. Placing the file (using the “File > Place” command) into a blank document may also work, although it may require some minor edits to restore the file to its previous specifications (ungrouping, resizing, re-linking source files or changing color mode).
    2. Open the file (if possible) and print as a Postscript file by choosing "File > Print," then choose "Adobe Postscript File" as your printer and click "Save." Open the exported PS file in Illustrator.
    3. Select “Object > Path > Cleanup”, then go to the “Layers Panel” menu and select “Paste Remembers Layers.” Select the artwork and copy, then paste into a new file.
    4. Launch Adobe Acrobat (any version except Reader) and attempt to open the Illustrator file from within Acrobat. If it opens, make a minor edit using the “Select” tool (if possible). Save as a PDF and an EPS,and export as an EPS by clicking "File > Export > Postscript > Encapsulated Postscript." Open these files in Illustrator, or place them into a blank file if opening fails.
    5. Eliminate potentially corrupted elements (swatches, brushes, symbols, links, fonts) one at a time and save the file (under another name) to isolate the issue; reinstall the fonts, create outlines, select all elements and convert to process black. Delete all imported elements and custom elements, such as symbols, and remove custom brush strokes.
    6. Open Illustrator (the same program version that was used to create the corrupt file); save a blank file in the same format (AI or EPS). Close the file and change the extension of both to TXT (not necessary on Mac) and open in a text editor, such as Notepad. Note the point in the corrupt file where the valid data begins: it will be numbers and letters rather than symbols. In the good file, find “%%BeginData” and copy all data before it, then replace the bad data in the bad file. Save, close, and change the file extension back to AI or EPS, and try opening.
    7. Open the file in Photoshop or place into a new blank page in InDesign. This may enable you to salvage text or critical file elements, which you can export back into Illustrator.
    8. A final resort is to purchase a third-party program or service that salvages damaged files. Some options include Recovery Toolbox, Bad Copy Pro and Corrupted File Repair (see Resources).

  • If I save an Illustrator file as PDF, isn't it still vector?

I was asked to send a logo to someone who wanted to wanted to forward it to someone else to use (possibly a printer or maybe even a newspaper or magazin)e, so I sent it to them in PDF format.
The person I sent it to just emailed me and asked me to provide it as vector.
So I sent the original Illustrator version as well as an EPS version.
Still, I thought this was odd. When I worked at a newspaper, we worked with PDF files that clients provided with no problem. The policy there was to open them in Acrobat Pro and re-save as TIFF. But I also often open them in Illustrator to make changes and it has never been a problem. When I open with Illustrator, they are indeed vectors.
Maybe they don't have Acrobat Pro or Illustrator, but even then, can't most DTP programs place PDF files now?
Sorry if these are stupid questions.

When sending a logo after completion to a client, I give a wide range of files for the exact reasons you mentioned. I have no idea what programs they have, or will have in the future. giving them a "package" allows them to have a great set to send to all areas of their company without having to come back and requesting more files.
I found great articles as reference in case you are interested:

    http://www.thedesigncubicle.com/2009/01/what-should-you-get-from-your-logo-designer/
    http://99designs.com/designer-blog/2011/05/18/file-types-logo-design/
    They advise:
1 x original Illustrator file (.AI) – Containing flat colour, graded and B&W logos (File > Save As…)
3 x Illustrator 8 EPS files – Separate flat colour, graded, and B&W logos (File > Save As…)
3 x PDF files – Separate flat colour, graded, and B&W logos (File > Save As…)
3 x High resolution JPEG images – Separate flat colour, graded, and B&W logos (File > Export…)
The following files are often used when saving print designs:
PDF (Portable Document Format) is a file format developed by Adobe Systems that can be universally downloaded and viewed by any computer that has the Adobe Acrobat plug-in. Today, PDFs are widely favored by most designers — it can be saved as an editable file which is great for clients.
EPS (Encapsulated PostScript file) is a vector format of your logo. It can be re-sized without losing image quality. Due to it’s high quality, it is commonly used with print elements such as business cards or brochures. If you ever question when to use it, ask yourself, “Will this be used for a high quality print?”
TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) is widely supported and works in almost any program. It produces a higher quality image than a JPG or PNG, but is not a vector format like EPS. It is widely used among publishing industries and photographers. It is best used in common things like invoices, page layouts or letterheads.
I hope that helps, Please post back with any other questions

  • Best way to save illustrator files to place in Indesign

    Hello,
I have played with many options. but can someone tell me the best way to save an illustrator file, so I can place it InDesign and it will print faster yet still hold true to quality and color?
Is it .ai, eps, pdf, tiff, or .png ..I didn't like .gif, or jpeg.....
The place time and print time is brutal in InDesign and when I a create PDF file the redraw in acrobat is terrible, if they were placed .ai files.
So just looking for the best case scenario to have faster printing and placing in InDesign and no redraw in PDF files.
Just looking for some guidance and advise.
    thanks!

    Hello,
What exactly is that flattening doing? I see it puts everything in one layer...is that all it does?
When I place them in InDesign, the performance is about the same and when I make the PDF, they still rebuild there.
Are there any options for flattening, or just the flatten from the layers menu?
    maybe I am missing something.
    thanks!!
    babs
Flattening is not just a reference to layers, it is a reference to transparency effects (opacities, soft masks such as drop shadows, and blend modes). Flattening makes a mess of the file. If you don't have to flatten, don't.
If you do have to flatten, do it from InDesign. This means placing the native Illustrator file saved with PDF compatibility (default behavior)
Again, never flatten unless you have to, and save it for last. If you don't need to flatten, output from InDesign using PDF/X-4. When you preserve transparency, output time is sped up considerably, and you don't end up with stitching artifacts (white lines) in the PDF.

  • Trouble saving illustrator files as jpeg.

Before CS3 came along it was possible to save ai files as jpeg directly in the program. Now that option is no longer possible. How can one save illustrator files as jpeg. Can anyone help please?

This is user error…you could never save an Illustrator file as jpeg you can only save Illustrator files as templates, ai file, pdf, eps, svg and fxg.
fxg I belive is relatively recent.
However the answer to what you want to do is the same as it has been for a very long time.
    File >Export>Format>Jpeg
    All is well once again.

  • I can no longer save illustrator files, please HELP?

I have work saved on my mac that for some reason can no longer be saved as a illustrator file, to be honest there is quite a bit. I can save it a EPS or PDF but not Ai. Does anyone one have a solution for my problem? Or can i just save all work as EPS what effect will this have in the long run?? Cheers guys.

    Hi Jacob
I have tried searching for them files in spotlight but nothing of that file name is found. I have also tried holding the command buttons mentioned when illustrator starts up but still no joy i cannot save ai files in my first user account. I have also tried go to folder, still no joy. The folder with illustrator settings cannot be found...
Should i just save all work to disk and then delete the first user and start again in the user where ai files can be saved? Or should i remove illustrator, reinstall and look for the folder again?
Could you please in simplest form tell me how to find the folder in question, so that i am not missing something in my stress...
I appreciate your help with this matter jacob and your patience...

  • I have a word document that I have put hyperlinks in and turned into a pdf.  When I email and receiver opens in iPad the document is blank.  When I do a file save as pdf the document appears and the hyperlinks work but the document has much of the content

I have a word document that I have put hyperlinks in and turned into a pdf.  When I email and receiver opens in iPad the document is blank.  When I do a file save as pdf the document appears and the hyperlinks work but the document has much of the content turned into symbols.  What is going wrong?

You select the printer properties and set the appropriate page size (I think there is a place to set it in PDF Maker too, but not sure). In the printer, this is equivalent to putting the proper paper in the printer.

  • Why does Bridge Need Illustrator to Save as PDF compatible file?

    1. Why does Bridge need Illustrator files to be saved as PDF files? "PDF Compatible File" ticked in the save menu.
    2. Why does saving with this info take so long, even on decent fast modern systems?
    3. Why does Bridge not consistently render the Illustrator files in FULL RESOLUTIONS, seemingly shooting for half resolution much of the time, and simply stopping at that?
    4. Why does "clicking" on the preview inside Bridge bring up the full resolution?
    5. How do I shortcut this process so that every file is previewed in Full RESOLUTION, instantly?
What is the point of Bridge?  What's its reason for existence?
    First time user of Bridge.

Since someone is bound to say that this should be asked in the Bridge section... it already is.  And has been referenced back over here.

  • Can't save illustrator file with text.  Can't update, uninstall or reinstall.

I suddenly cannot save a simple illustrator file that contains any text.  Also, I am unable to update, uninstall or reinstall illustrator.  This is frustrating when you have projects due.  Mac Mini - OS X 10.8.3

Run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, reinstall. Also check your fonts. You probably have a "bad" font i nthere somewhere that is corrupting all font operations.

  • "This is an Adobe Illustrator file that was save without PDf content."

I have a client that has been working on a file in AI CS, never left his machine, but when he went to open it today he gets a message that says this file "was generated by a newer version of Illustrator. Would you like to import this file? Some data loss may occur".
And when we click the "Import" button, we then get:
"This is an Adobe® Illustrator® file that was saved without PDF content. To place or open this file in other applications, it should be re-saved from Adobe Illustrator with the "Create PDF Compatible File" options turned on. This option is in the Illustrator Native Format Options dialog box, which appears when saving an Adobe Illustrator file using the Save As command."
However, even though this was created in AI CS, all other machine and all other versions of AI (even CS3, 3.3, 2, etc..) we get the same exact error message. How it can be newer than CS 3.3 when it was created in CS is strange to begin with.
I assume this is some sort of corruption, but was wondering if there were any cures. It seems our backups have backed up this file in it's current state (corrupt), which is a huge issue at this point.
Thank you very much for any help!

I have sometimes had this trouble since I updated Acrobat.
"This is an Adobe® Illustrator® file that was saved without PDF content ..."
Not sure what's wrong - it seems to happen even though the Illy file is saved with PDF content and everything embedded.
Another thing: When viewing pdfs under Advanced>Print Production>Output Preview I repeatedly get an RGB simulation preview even though I know that the file is CMYK. So I have to choose a CMYK simulation preview and then things look o.k.
Is there any way to stop the RGB preview coming up? I note that Convert Colours messes things up completely, so it's only the preview that's wrong.
    Any ideas, Wade?

Just upgraded to Mavericks. Now I cannot access scans from my hp scanner. After it complete the scans and I try to save as tiff, jpeg or pdf I get a either a grey blur or a message that says cannot save because the file cannot be written to. I did not have any problems before the upgrade. I would greatly appreciate any light shed on this.

Go to the HP site and look for drivers for your scanner. It apparently needs an updated driver to work with Mavericks.

  • Illustrator CC 18.1.0 crashes when saving files (Save As)

I recently purchased and installed Adobe Creative Cloud 2014. When using Illustrator 2014.1.0 (18.1.0), the app frequently crashes when I try to save a file (Save As... to another format such as SVG). It's not repeatable every time, but it happens fairly often enough to lose work. Occasionally, it will crash when attempting to open a file - the app freezes when I try to navigate to a folder in the Open File dialog box and then crashes. I have never seen it crash when launching the app, and I do not have any external tablets (such as Wacom) or any third-party plug-ins installed. I'm running Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite with a 2009 13-inch MacBook Pro with 8 GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce 9400M.
I've searched through the Adobe forums and in other online resources and have only found threads about Illustrator crashing during startup or when having incompatible third-party plug-ins or certain Wacom tablets installed, of which I have neither.
Anyone have any suggestions of a fix or workaround?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Macbook-adobe
What happens when you try to open any file from the same location where you are saving the file using Save As command ?
Will it be possible to join a connect session with me ?
Please do let me know about your time availability ?
