Illustrator files printing in different sizes than was specified..

Hi there,
I am having a problem with some labels I have been making. I specify that I want the document to be 6.5 cm x 10 cm, and after I have laid them out in a page and printed them, I find that they are too big to fit on the surface I measured for. Does anyone know what is going on?

By how much is the measurement off? What is the printed size of your 6.5 x 10 rectangle?
What sort of printer are you using?
I don't recall having had this problem unless I'd done something daft.

  • HT201361 Is it possible to save the screenshot files to a different folder than desktop. How can I change the folder?

Is it possible to save the screenshot files to a different folder than desktop (that is the default). How can I change the destination folder? Thank you, Sal

To change the screenshot capture location to a new place on your Mac, first think of a location that would serve you properly. We like to place ours in a "Screenshot" folder located inside of the User's "Pictures" folder. To change the location to this new location, open the Terminal and enter the following command:
    defaults write com.apple.screencapture location /Users/[u]/Pictures/Screenshots/
Replace "[u]" with the name of the user on your system. Once you have entered this command, let's restart the screen capture utility by restarting the SystemUIServer by entering the following command:
    killall SystemUIServer
You can optionally log out and back in instead of entering this second command, thus restarting the SystemUIServer. Once restarted, all screen captures taken from here on out will end up in your /Pictures/Screenshots/ folder in the User's home folder on your Mac.

  • Where do I find info on how to print on different size projects?

I'm not sure if I'm posting this on the correct board or not. My question is where do I find instructions on how to print on different size papers such as, envelopes and postcards both addresses and return addresses. I know how to print the body of my postcards since I use Windows Publisher but I'd rather not have to use labels. It would be so much faster and more professional to print the addresses and return addresses directly on the postcards and envelopes. I've owned many HP printers and have always been able to do that but can't seem to set my Deskjet 8500 910A.
    Thanks for any help available.

    linadads,
I am happy to help you with your issue regarding printing on envelops. The printer software doesn't carry the functionality to create envelope documents. You will use a word processor for completing this such as, Microsoft word. In Microsoft Word (or a like word processor) it will give you the option to create an envelope with the send from and send to address sections.
    I hope this helps

  • Illustrator file contains pdf text rather than graphic

When I open an illustrator file I created about a year ago I now get a file that is filled with text saying:
This is an Adobe® Illustrator® File that was
    saved without PDF Content.
To Place or open this file in other
applications, it should be re-saved from
Adobe Illustrator with the "Create PDF
Compatible File" option turned on. This
option is in the Illustrator Native Format
Options dialog box, which appears when
saving an Adobe Illustrator file using the
    Save As command.
When I follow the instructions it literally saves the warning text that is shown, and there is no graphics.
When I try to "place" the file into a new illustrator file the preview shows my graphic, but when it is place it is just the repeating message.
Has anyone seen this or know a work around to get my graphic back

Looks like the file is corrupt.
Either you didn't save it with PDF compatibility or both parts of the file got corrupted.
When following the instructions did you save it under a different name or did you overwrite the existing file?
If you overwrote it, then your file is most probably gone forever. If you still have the original file you could try and recover it using third party tools. See a list of tools inthis post by Jacob Bugge: Re: How to recover an Illustrator CS2 file that crashed, with Illustrator CS5.5 ?

  • Folder/ file icons are different sizes from one window to another!

    Hi there
I am having an extremely annoying problem where all my folders and files (in icon view) are totally different sizes from each other from one window to another. For example, I might click on a folder that's icon is small sized (64x64), but when that folder opens up, the icons of the subfolders inside are huge (276x276) and need to instantly be resized and re-arranged. Then if i continue to open one of these subfolders, the file icons inside it are now medium sized (96x96). Each new folder that I go into on my hard drive will be differently sized and I end up spending ages resizing and re-arranging them before I can do my work. This problem never happened in Leopard and Im despairing of what to do.
Is there a way of setting a default icon size and spacing that can then be applied to every folder and file on the hard drive? I have used the 'Use as defaults' option on the 'View options' window but this doesn't apply it to anywhere else besides the current window you are on.
Surely, Im doing something wrong as Apple could never have overlooked such an obvious problem like this?
    Can anyone advise?
    Many thanks
    Dan

The Finder will (theoretically) remember the view settings for each individual folder that you visit. If you have not opened a particular folder before, you should get the default view settings, but once you have changed the view then that is what you will get on subsequent visits. You can erase the previous settings by deleting the (normally invisible) .DS_Store file that is created in a folder when it is opened, but this file can contain other Finder metadata.

  • Copying files folders display different sizes

I'm pretty sure I'm not crazy, but isn't it true that when you copy files from one drive to another, the sizes as reported in the Finder may not always be equal even though the actual files may be exactly the same. Nothing fancy here, just a manual drag and drop of about 20 folders with many files in each. In all cases, one drive is displaying consistently smaller folder sizes than the other by <1% and as much as 30%. Should I worry or is this just one of those oddities of sectors and formatting and so on?

It can vary due to File Allocation Block sizes, but 30 % would either mean a really small file... 1,025 bytes requiring 2 1,024 size block & may report 2048 on one, or one drive is not HFS+, like perhaps FAT32, in which case whole Forks can get lost.
Or are you talking about the Get info Window that reports in Bytes for size?

  • Why are files in Firefox 33 cache directory different size than saved files on desktop

In previous versions of Firefox I used the cache directory to extract videos, flash files and hidden images, that were not saved in folder and a HTML Document file on desktop. For Example the opening image of a YouTube Video can not be extracted and saved from Firefox but is stored in the cache directory.
To find these files without going through them one at a time, I would copy the cache folder on a desktop folder and then use Double Killer to delete the same size files in both the cache and the saved files in the desktop file folder. The files that are left behind in the cache folder are those that did not save to the desktop file and folder. I can then double check to see if I can find the videos, flash or images from the remaining files.
I have updated to Firefox 30.0.3. The problem now is that the files in the cache are different in KB size from the saved files on the desktop folder. The dimensions of a saved image are the same but the size of the file differ. Now I can not use Double Killer to delete files and have to go through the whole cache directory one by one to find files that were not saved.
Why did the Firefox developers changed the cache directory? Do I need to revert to a previous version of Firefox or is there a way that I can change the cache directory of Firefox 33.0.3 and the size that it stores files.
Would also like to know what add-on gives the best quality screenshot with flash.
Thanks for this support. Apart from this cache problem I find Firefox easy to use and the best web browser.

Current Firefox 32+ releases use a new cache service named Cache2 and this cache service works differently.
Files in the cache2 folder are special files that also store the meta data apart from the actual file data that you see on the about:cache page if you click an item.

  • I'm opening a garageband file on a different computer than the one it was made on, and my drum loops are playing as low pitched beeps instead of the jazzy brushes I want. I believe my version is more up-to-date than what I used first. How can I fix this?

I believe I said it all in the question...

Could it be that you had more instruments on the old computer? Or haven't correctly installed the instruments on the new one?
Obviously, GB hasn't assigned a drum instrument to the track that the drum notes are on (my guess: since it doesn't have the desired drum set.) Press cmd-I to make the track info pane visible and pick one of the drum sets for that track.

  • Illustrator saving vectors with different attributes than assigned prior to saving

I am having a problem whenever I save a document in Illustrator.
Near the edges of the page, I am placing a few rectangular vectors filled in only with black.
When I save the image as a .pdf, two of these get changed.
One on top, and one on bottom, at the exact same x placement.
Prior to saving, they are all completely identical with the same attributes.
I even deleted the old ones, replaced them with new ones, which I copied from other marks that were not messing up, and saved the .ai file as a .pdf again, but to no avail.
Please help as I have no idea what to do to fix this.
I have tried unchecking save as an illustrator editable file, save with layers, etc.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I believe that it is simply the way that adobe was displaying it, because if I zoom in on the .pdf file, the added thickness disappears.
The same thing happens when I have the letter I in text, not sure why this happens, but I no longer think it is an issue.
That letter 'l' looking thicker is a known issue with a PDF file... as you've noticed, it clears up when you zoom in and also, it doesn't print like that...

  • Why does PM7 sometimes print a different font than selected?

When I print an entire file of 20 - 30 pages, PM7 sometimes prints a small section of the file in a font that looks like Arial even though the text is in Times New Roman. I've double-checked to ensure that the text is in fact saved in Times New Roman. When printing just the one page, the print is normal with the correct font throughout. This problem only happens twice in a 410-page document, and always on the same two pages in the same location. Help!

Mel, I haven't used PM in many years, but I seem to recall having problems like the one you describe. As far as I can remember, if one had the time to perform a thorough check, these could nearly always be linked to something in a wrong or damaged font, and this was not always easy to spot. Sometimes it was just a single blank space in the middle of perfectly normal text, sometimes it could be a single character, or a couple of them, standing behind the text or a figure, or in a remote corner of the desktop. If one didn't have the time, sometimes it was better to rewrite the whole text in a brand new file, placing again any figures from fresh copies of the originals, and replace the troblesome page(s). But it has been so long that my recollections may not be all that good.
    Good luck.

  • Restore file to a different folder than original?

Hi I work with a lot of password protected word documents (can't be viewed in quick look)... and often want to look at the changes that are made with previous versions. Is there a way to be able to restore time machine backups to a different folder so it doesnt overwrite the current version

    Yes, you can!
While in the TM interface, just choose the file(s) that you want to restore to a different location, click on the Gear Icon and choose "Copy ...". Then come out of the TM browser by clicking Cancel or pressing Esc key and browse over to the destination folder in the Finer. Right click and choose "Paste ...". This will restore the file from your chosen backup to this folder.

  • How to print two different sizes of images on Designjet Z300 printer

I have a Designjet Z3200PS printer and want to know how to make a print using two images that fills up the full width of my 24" wide roll of paper.  I'm trying to make each print so I can cut them  to match the sizes of a bunch of picture frames that I have.  The frames need prints that are 16 wide x 9.9 inches high.  The other size needs to be 8" wide x 9.9 inches high.  For some reason when I put the two pictures into a collage maker the picture that is to be 16" wide ends up being 14.5 and the one that needs to be 8" wide ends up being 10.5" wide.  What do I need to make prints the size I'm needing?  What am I doing wrong?  What software should I use.  I've been using the online picnik collage maker sight and it's not allowing the proportions that I need.  You can help me out a bunch by steering me in the right direction.  Thank you,,,my email address   {Personal Information Removed}.  I'm new to this so please understand.

This seems to be a commercial product. For the best chance at finding a solution I would suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support!

  • Swapping video files of a different size

The final source files for my project won't be ready for a while, but I have a set of half resolution rough versions to work with in the mean time.
I would like to perform the complete edit on these rough files and swap them out when I get the final versions. I could apply a transform effect and scale the files to fit the project, but there's probably going to be a couple of hundred clips once I've edited (from 12 source files). That will mean going through each clip and removing the transform effect.
Is there an easier way to do what I want? Or perhaps there's a way to apply/remove an effect to a whole track instead of to individual clips? Putting the effect on won't be a problem since there will only be 12 clips when I start, but if there is a better way I would rather not go through each clip to remove the transform.
I only have limited access to the computer with Premiere on it for this project so anywhere I can save time will help.

also...something you are going to have to be aware of and manage very carefully if you choose to go the proxy edit route.
You need to establish a naming protocol so that all the clips have identical names.  ie  the large clips and the proxy clips are identically named..BUT filed in different folders of course.
You need to have the clips Time code match. ie proxy files (clips)  have identical timecodes to the large file (clips).

    Hi guys,
here is the line of code I am working with:
