Illustrator files size and instances of the same embedded image

My question is, isn’t Illustrator supposed to use and save just one instance of an embedded image regardless of how many times it i used in an document?
A senario: If I import and embed an image and I save the document I get a pretty small files size. But when I copy this image internally in the document, say that I copy the image 10 times, I get ten times the file size. Is it supposed to do that? Why doesn't it just save the image one time?

Just did a test where I placed 5 images in Illustrator, one file with these images embedded, one with these images as Symbols, and one with these images as links. The winner for the smallest illustrator file is the file with images linked. But this is because you must supply the link with the Illustrator file if you want to actually use it for anything which would fall into the category of having one image used several times in Illustrator and not making the file have the weight of all 5 images.
A better understanding of these usages in Illustrator can be attained with this link.

  • Replace a 2003 (not R2) File Server with a 2012R2 files server and preferably keep the same machine name and IP when finished

I am wanting to replace a 2003 (not R2) File Server with a 2012R2 file server and preferably keep the same machine name and IP when finished.  For the moment I just need some "high level" guidance, little details can be worked out once I know
which direction I will go.  I was considering that DFS might be a way to help get through the process although when finished the 2012R2 Files server will be by itself with no other file server planned at this time.  DFS can stay installed for maybe
future purposes but clearly I wouldn't need the DFS Replication with only one machine.
Here's a few details of the environment....
    1.  DC's are 2012R2 but it is still 2003 DFL because the old 2003 DCs are still present.  But likely they will be gone and the DFL elevated before I start on the File Server project
    2. Nearly all machines in the facility have a shortcut on the "All Users" Desktop that points to the existing old File Server.  Editing or replacing that shortcut would be a major pain,...hence why I want to keep the same machine name at least,
and maybe the same IP if not too much trouble.  This way the existing shortcut would continue to work with the new 2012R2 File Server.  The UNC path represented in that shortcut is also configured into one or more of our major business applications,
futher emphasizing the need to keep the UNC path the same throughout the process.
    3. The facility runs 24/7/365 but is "light" on weekends.  The political environment is such that there is little to no tolerance for any down time at all.
    4. Would DFS (based from the 2012R2 machine) be a good tool to get where I need to go?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Hi Sharon,
I've done some more reading and have a few new ideas to run past you....
Yes regular DFS wouldn't help and the Namespace would still be different than how it was with just the old server. However I was thinking DFS Replication could replace the purpose of RoboCopy and it would keep the two locations "in sync" until I was ready
to flip over to the new server.  DFS Rep can exist independently of a DFS Namespace, so a Namespace is not even needed. It needs a minimum of 2003R2 for the "later & better" DFS Rep but I believe 2003 can do an "in place" upgrade to 2003R2, so I would upgrade
the old server to 2003R2 first.  As long as the DFS Rep on 2012R2 and 2003R2 will properly interact I think that will work.
Thanks for the reg info on the Shares.  I'm debating if editing that would reg file would really be much better than manually creating the Shares on the new server while the DFS Replication was doing its job.  I'll probably export that Key as a
safety move whether I use it or not.
Once the DFS Rep is fully in sync and the Shares are in place on the new server, I figure I would then:
    1. Remove the DFS Replication Object (optionally remove DFS Services completely)
    2. Rename the old File Server to something else and set it to DHCP
    3. Rename the new File Server to the name I want to use and give it the IP the old server had.
    How does that sound?

  • Backup to file system and sbt_tape at the same time?

    hello!
is it possible to do a rman backup to disk and sbt_tape at the same time (just one backup, not two)? the reason is, that i want to copy the rman backup files from the local file system via robocopy to another server (in a different building), so that i can use them for fast restores in the case of a crash.
if not, what is the recommended strategy in this case? backups should be available on tape AND the file system of a different machine.
environment: oracle 10g, windows server 2008, commvault for backup on tape
    thanks for your advice.
    best regards,
    christian

If you manually copy backupsets out of the FRA to another location, but still accessible as "local disks", you can use the CATALOG command in RMAN to "catalog" the copies.
Thus, if you opy or move files from the FRA to /mybackups/MYDB, you would use
"CATALOG START WITH /mybackups/MYDB" or individually "CATALOG BACKUPPIECE /mybackups/MYDB/backuppiece_1" etc
Once you have moved or removed the backupsets out of the FRA, you must use
    "CROSSCHECK BACKUP"
    and
    "DELETE EXPIRED BACKUP"
to update the RMAN repository. Else, Oracle will continue to "account" for disks pace consumed by the BackupPieces in V$FLASH_RECOVERY_AREA_USAGE and will soon "run out of space".
You would do the same for ArchiveLogs (CROSSCHECK ARCHIVELOG ALL; DELETE EXPIRED ARCHIVELOG ALL) if your ArchiveLogs go to the FRA as USE_DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST

  • Export QuickTime file with new audio and maintain the file size and quality as the original.

I shot some footage for a client yesterday and ran into an issue. To make a long story short I have QuickTime mov files shot with my Panasonic GH4 that have a buzzing sound in the audio track. I have clean audio from a recorder that can be sync'd. Is there a way for me to do this for the client and deliver them as the same QuickTime file but with the clean audio and keep the file size close to the original and not have quality loss in the image?
If so I will probably put all of the spanned clips together from each interview and sync the audio before delivery. I am just not sure which codec will give the client the same quality footage compared to the originals and not have a massive difference in the overall file size. They did request that they be Quicktime MOV files though so that is a must.
I don't see this as an option in the codecs in the export settings in PP, but is there a way to export as ProRes or another MAC native codec that will save them from having to convert it on their end? I am on a PC with Adobe CS5.5 so I am not too familiar with MACs, but from what I understand they would need to convert the files if I sent them straight out of the camera.
I found some related search results for this but they pertained to "Best quality" for export. I am not sure how the varying options work but I don't want to create files that are considerably larger, just not less quality.
If anyone has experience with this it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Cole

Here's the workflow: I imported the video footage into iMovie '08 and did my edits. Then I exported it (share) to my desktop with compression set @ 740 X 480. Then I used QuickTime Pro to fix the audio track. The file plays perfectly with both audio tracks working. It's a QuickTime file (.mov).
I hope this jars any replies as to why the file when uploaded to my iWeb gallery drops the second audio track.
    Hmm,

  • Different EAR file size for 2 exactly the same set of source codes

    Hi All,
I have 2 exactly the same sets of source codes for my application that were compiled in 2 different environment (say SIT and UAT; both using the same jdk versions), is it possible that the EAR files after build will be different in size too?
Can you suggest any online reading materials that I can read regarding this?
    Thank you very much
    Eddie

    Hi Arun,
    Thanks for the answer.
I already did a comparison of the 2 application, they are exactly the same (i only copied the source including the jars from PROD to UAT). I also did a comparison between the 2 EAR files generated (exploded the EAR file and compare each of the files), they are the same. My aim actually is to compile the application in Machine1 and deploy it in Machine2, I am just puzzled why the 2 EAR files generated by the 2 machines are different in size. Does it has something to do with the compression and compiling?
    Thanks,
    Eddie

  • Swap file size and tracking down the culprit

I have a new MacBook Air running Mountain Lion and I've been having problems with swap files. While the swap seems to default to 64 MB when I start, it will quickly grow to 2 GB and then the machine seems to create new files after every time I wake the machine from sleep, but the older swap files are left around until I restart. At 2 GB or so per file, this means I'm forced to restart simply to recover lost disk space. I have 8 GB of real memory, but even with 5 or 6 GB free, the swap file still grows.
Since the problem occurs even when I'm not using my computer for much else I've narrowed the four main culprits to HP printer software, Dropbox, Crashplan, and Lytro. I completely uninstalled Lytro and all its support files this morning and uninstalled the HP printer drivers. I downloaded the most recent installer from HP and did a minimal install so that the HP Print Monitor is not part of the installation.
This still leaves Crashplan, which requires Java if you are going to run the main app and then Dropbox, which has a menu component as well as background processes.
Of course, the problem could be some other service or application that has a memory leak, but I don't know how to go about diagnosing the problem. Do either Crashplan or Dropbox have known memory leak issues?
I have iCloud turned on, Time Machine is off, and Sharing is off. I use a combination of Safari, Firefox, and Google Chrome for browsing, but typically only have Chrome open; but I guess there is a possibility that a plug-in is causing problems.

If so you may have a bunch of files hidden there. Might be worth unmounting the backup partition and checking the directory to rule it out.
No, I see nothing recent in that directory (haven't used it in a while anyway). I suppose it was a simple matter of a bloated pacman cache.
I think you may have misunderstood. If you unmount /mnt/backups you should see no files at all when you list the directory. Any files which are there will be masked when the partition is mounted.
You're right. I misunderstood you, and having finally tried your suggestion I find that you were absolutely right!  Thank you!!  This was so perplexing me how I could not account for such a significant amount of space on such a meager partition, and this buys me a lot more time to strategize what to do with this file system
I unmounted /mnt/backups and found that 1.7 GB of files were still left over, which I was able to remove.  Now my file sizes add up, except only ~ 0.5G (of a 7.8G file system), which I guess is probably the 5% that ext3 is "reserving for root"?
Anyway, I like to idea of sparing some space for being able to log into root in case I fill up my system again (it certainly came in handy this time), but how much can I reasonably reduce that amount to?

  • Can I have different font sizes and alignments within the same title?

Apologies, haven't been able to search through previous discussions as I'm in Madagascar and my internet connection is not adequate today!
I'm trying to put scrolling credits on a project. I want the list of credits - music, photos, text etc. - then underneath that a nice little thanks paragraph followed by the date and website. I want the paragraph, date and website to be centered, but when I try to do that it centres the whole thing and messes with the format of the credits part. Changing the font size also makes all the text the same, but ideally I need a couple of bits to be different.
    Does that make sense?
There doesn't seem to be a way to just highlight the bit that I want to change - it's all or nothing. But I know it's been done before, because I've got a video made last year which has this exact thing as the credits. Unfortunately the person who made that isn't here at the moment.
Any help very much appreciated, this has to be finished within the next few hours and I've been struggling for days. I tried to do it just as several screens of text instead of the scrolling thing, but couldn't format it properly for the credits.
As a complete aside, I've just downloaded the same song 3 times from iTunes and every time it's dodgy and cuts out after 1/3 of the song. Don't know whether this is to do with my bad internet or what... but any help with that would also be amazing.
    Thanks.

    Not currently possible.
    A computer/catalog is a unique construct.
An iOS device can only sync to one computer/catalog at a time.
You can sync many devices to one computer/catalog but not the other way around.

  • How do I relink multiple instances of the same image, in Illustrator CC?

Is there a feature, like InDesign, where links automatically relink if they're in the same folder?
Currently I have to search through the file structure multiple times even if the linked image is the same.
Surely Illustrator should relink all instances of the same image and give the option search for any additional missing links in the same folder?
I'd love to be pointed in the right direction, or if anyone has a script they've written to solve the problem, do let me know.
    Cheers

try the script (version 3) in this post,

    Thoughts on Flash
There's nothing you can do but switch away from Flash and move on to CSS and Javascript for animation and HTML5 for the <video> tag, if you want the broadest audience to see your content.

  • Urgent:Comparing file size and file hashcode

Hi i am developing an EJB in which I have to dynamically pick the filename, filesize and hashcode of the file.
In case filename exists then it should check for file size and hashcode of the file. if both of these are equal then the processing should stop.
Could anyone provide some help in comparing filesize and hashcode of the file with itself.
    Regards
    Abhi

    read the [File API|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/io/File.html] .
The file size is a long. and the hashCode is an int. [compare them - they are primitives|http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/java/nutsandbolts/operators.html]

I believe Frank is referring to the end use (e.g., for print or on-screen use).
Until he returns, I can tell you that I ran a quick test using an image from the Aperture 3 training book library which was as follows:
Camera = Canon EOS 5D Mark II
    Master resolution = 5616 x 3744 (21 MP)
I was able to export to a JPEG with end file size of 1 MB as follows:
Export Presets drop-down > select 'Edit' option
Selected preset name 'JPEG - 50% of Original Size' > change percentage value to 40% > change DPI value to '300' > click OK to set as current default > Export version to desktop.
The exported JPEG has a resolution of 2246 x 1498 and appears on screen to have the same image quality of the original in Aperture.
Note - I did not change the default Image Quality slider in the Export Preset dialog (which left it at 10).
Basically, you will need to play around with the settings until you find the appropriate values to arrive at an image version you want.

I am sending a single-page poster in Illustrator to a commercial printer. There are several placed graphics and I want to choose the correct file-type to keep my Illustrator file nice and small.

Printers like PDFs, but you should consult with the print vendor before you save the file in any particular format.  Each vendor is different and have an established workflow.  They may not accept JPGs.  If the poster prints offset, you will need to supply the appropriate resolution per their request or what they require. If the poster is large format or grand format, then they will or should know what resolution is appropriate.  However, large format inkjet only requires 144-150ppi at 100% final size.  Try to get in the habit of consulting with the print vendor early on so you end up supplying what is needed.
