Illustrator files won't open on shared drive.

Just upgraded to Mac OS to Yosemite (10.10) and can no longer open files on a shared drive within Illustrator or other Creative Cloud apps.  However, if those files are transferred to desktop I can open them.  These exact same files were opening before going to Yosemite.  I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the apps.

OSURecSports,
Actually, it is always recommended here to open/save from/to own harddisk and copy files/folder between own harddisk and wherever else.
Working from/to a shared drive is rsike and may go wrong, with possible corruption/loss of files.

  • Office 365 files won't open from network drive

I can’t open any office  documents from a mapped network drive. I can however go to file explorer and go straight the server directory (\\servername\share) and open any document. As a workaround, I created a shortcut on the desktop that points
to the share to allow the user to continue working.
I have checked permission and added the path in Trust Center. I know it’s not the computer because I have logged in with other users and everything works fine. I have also logged into other computer with the user that is having the problem and again
everything works. I'm convinced it some setting I'm missing within the user profile on the computer.

  • Illustrator Files do not open after copying

    Hi there.
I have a Power Mac G5. I had a problem with the machine, it was running too slow. So I copied all the data from the Hard Drive to an External Hard Drive. Formated the machine and again copied the data from the External Hard Drive to the Hard Disk.
Now, the Illustrator files won't open up. I was using Illustrator CS3 before formatting and same after format.
The error I get is " The file 'test.ai' is in an unknown format and cannot be opened."
Is there anything that can be done to open the files... Cause I nearly have 100GB of .ai file.
    Thanks in advance.
P.S.: If needed I can upload one of the .ai files here.

Well this might have been done a little carelessly it may not have also but how long did it take to copy the 100 GB of files? If it took about an hour your are probably alright but if it took like four or five minutes then that would not be normal.
The important thing when you do this type of copying as it is always noted that you back up your data that is copy it to your external hard drive and of course at the same time archive it to other types of media as you should be doing anyway.
So of course you have copies on cd or dvd disks from which you can copy, correct? As of course you know that it is not unheard of for a disk to fail in which case you can lose your data.
I know you did not do any of this and I am not rubbing it in just point out you should have it was not a joke all of us have had such difficulties but we were all afraid of losing our data so we back everything up.
The good news is you can send even the reformatted disk to a disk recovery service like Apple and for about $1,000 and they can actually restore your disk even though you have reformatted it. Break a serious federal law and the Feds will do it free and use it as evidence in court.
I am serious about services that can recover your data even though you have reformatted your disk it would cost you money.
I make a suggestion for your future use do not reformat your disk next time but instead simply back it u and then remove it from your computer and store it somewhere buy a new more modern version and use that they are usually faster and hold more and they tend to crash less.

  • _____HELP!_Illustrator file won't open "Photoshop file is not readable"

    Help!
My Illustrator file won't open - it starts to, then after 1 second I get the error message: "Photoshop file is not readable"
    Any suggestions?

Right now I am also having the same problem! Eeek! If anyone has a workaround that'll be awesome. Unfortunately, this is the only post I've seen that someone else has the same problem.
Anyway, this is what I did...
I made some images in photoshop and I linked them to my illustrator file. I saved several various versions of my illustrator file... but now all 10 versions of them won't work! I can't figure it out. I tried re-saving my PSD file (that I had all the images in) and yep.. no cigar.

  • HELP! Files won't open and previously had Firefox icon instead of DW icons!  Leap Year thing?

Hi!  I went to update my website, which I do every night before the first day of every month and all the files had a FIrefox icon instead of the usual Dreamweaver one.  I have shut down, reinstalled DW MX 2004 but the files still do not open.  The icons have now changed to DW but they are not opening with right click, opening from Applications folder, double clicking the file, from get info and open with DW.  I am stumped. HELP!  Need to update for March 1st.
Is it something to do with Leap Year 29th Feb?  Checked the clock in preferences but can't see how this affects it.
Firefox is always updated but the latest version does not seem to be as efficient as previous upgrades.  We installed Chrome as well.  Do they interfere with each other?

    Hi Ken
I wish the 7.1 updater download had helped but it didn¹t.  All the files
were backed up before the installation, which went fine.
    Mac 10.5.8
We used Disc Warrior to defrag the hard drive, which did not make a
    difference.
We recently started using Chrome, so now have 3 browsers in the dock,
Safari, Firefox and Chrome.  Do they interfere in any way with each other?
The files, which I hadn¹t touched for a month as I update on a monthly
basis, initially had the Firefox icon.

  • FCP 5.1 file won't open in FCP 7

    Hi.
I am at my wits end...I have a FCP 5.1 file that I have been working on for years.
I had to upgrade to FCP 7 for reasons I won't go into and now my FCP 5.1 file won't open.
It is a file with footage from P2 cards. It has magic bullet/looks builder used throughout. I am not sure if that is the issue at one point ONE of the messages I got when it crashed (I got a few different ones at different times) was something about looksbuilder not working right.
In a nutshell, it slowly starts to open and then quits. (It gets to about 33 percent open over the course of 45 minutes and then crashes.)
The file is about half a gig and there is plenty of room on the MAC itself so it shouldn't be that the Mac is overtaxed.
I don't know what to do.
I tried opening various back-up copies, etc. because I thought maybe something was just corrupted. NONE of them open.
I tried deleting render files to limit how much it was trying to process when it opened the thing.
I even tried turning off the external drives that hold the media hoping that if it couldn't find the media it would just open the shell of a file for me and maybe I could reconnect it all later. Obviously, grasping at straws...
I am out of options. Do I just need to wipe my computer and reinstall 5.1 from scratch? That would stink because there is another project being worked on on the computer that is a FCP 7 file.
I tried putting a copy of FCP 5.1 back on the computer (so I have 7 and 5.1 on there now) to get it to open, but FCP 5.1 won't work either now (I get General Error 41 - whatever that means) Maybe you can't have two versions of FCP on the computer? Maybe it thinks it got opened in 7 so now it won't work in 5? even though it never fully opened? Guessing...
I'd appreciate any and all help. All I want to do is open the 5.1 file and save it in FCP 7 and work from there.
    Thanks!
    Shari

    Hey Michael:
Thanks for the response. I did something similar in that I opened the file on another computer that had FCP 7 and it was fine. So I saved that. Then I went to my Mac and tried to open that file and it crashed...but it said something about Looksbuilder...so I contacted them and they had me uninstall, reinstall and then fix the preference files for Looksbuilder and it now opens.
    YAY!
    Thanks again,
    Shari

  • Old Applications & files won't open in OSX-Tiger/Classic

    [post moved from other forum]
I finished my Powerbook's hardware upgrade with success yesterday(with thanks to JPL, Sig, A_Brody and other's great advice). System is now Powerbook G3 400 Firewire with 512mbRam, new 40GB HDD, and OS-X Tiger. However...
I can't seem to get the older Applications or their files to open. I get the error message:
"There is no default application specified to open the document Appleworks 6"
    and/or
"Could not be opened because the application that created it could not be found--- could not find a translation extension with appropriate translators"
    The upgrade/update procedure included...
===Back-up all files on the old 10GB HDD to an external USB drive.
===Remove old and replace w/new 40GB HDD, also install new 512MB PC-133 RAM module in lower slot.
===booted from old OS CD and ran Hard drive set-up utility with two partitions, one 30GB the other 10GB.
===Install OS 9.0.4 from that original Apple software CD onto the first 30GB partition.
===Onto same partition, ran OS-9 Update 9.1.0, then 9.2.1, then fireware update 4.1.8f5, then Update 9.2.1
===Installed OS-X Tiger onto the first 30GB partition
===Moved all backed-up files from the external USB drive onto the second 10GB partition.
I have tried running the old applications in both OS-X Classic mode and also after changing the "Start-up Disk" to the smaller partition (which should be a clone of how the original Hard drive was set-up i.e. folder structure etc.)
I'm quite surprised that when re-booting to the smaller partiton, that although it looks just like my system prior to upgrading, the apps don't run and the files don't open those older apps that created them. I assumed that the smaller Partition--and booting to it--would be the same as if the original Hard drive was still in the powerbook.
When I get those error messages above, I have followed the "Choose Application" button thru to where I could choose the application. I follow to the "Applications (Mac OS 9" folder to where the actual APPLEWORKS 6 app (for exmaple) is located, but it is greyed out and can't be selected. BTW later I did copy all of the contents of the original "Applications" folder from the backed-up HDD into the OSX "Applications Mac OS 9" folder. Also note, the apps in that folder are listed as KIND "Unix Executable File". The files (in this case AppleWorks files) are also listed as that file KIND.
===In the OSX's System Preferences/System/Classic/Advanced tab, I have tried the REBUILD DESKTOP procedure--with no effected change. I know I read elsewhere in discussions that there was a procedure to re-boot with a certain keyboard held-key combo that allows to re-build desktop upon booting?? I don't remember the keyboard combo. And,not certain how that procedure is different.
===In the change Start-Up disc Utility, I now see four Systems to choose from...
Mac OSX 10.4 on New 30GB HD
Mac OS 9.2.2 on New 30GB HD
Mac OS on Old 10GB HD (that's the smaller partition),
Mac OS 9.2.2 on New 30GB HD
    Network Start-up
Both the second and forth choice will boot-up to OS 9.2, but as mentioned the apps won't run and files won't open
I'm guessing the reason the third choice won't boot (it reverts back to OSX Tiger when I try) is because that original System copy is OS 9.0.4 (backed-up prior to running the OS-9.1 and 9.2.1, 9.2.2 updates.). Also note, when in OS 9.2.2 when I go into that Utility... Apple/Control Panels/Startup Disk it doesn't list the old OS on the smaller partition. BTW could I now run/perform the OS-9 updates to bring that System on the smaller HD partition up to OS-9.2.2 with out causing problems (and maybe providing solutions?)
    I wonder...
??? Why would I be having to choose which application would open an application---wouldn't an app open on its own (Unix Executable File")
??? When I moved the orig HD back-ups on the external USB drive I noticed a file with some kind of PC icon was being created within the folder. Currently I see that the file is now displayed as FINDER.DAT. Does this file relate to the error that refers to "appropriate translators"? Could the Apple Macintosh files being backed-up onto an external USB drive that may not have been formated as Apple HFS type be causing a problem?
??? Why wouldn't the smaller 10GB partition with the old HDD back-up copy moved to it not function like the original Hard drive? Particularly when I choose to boot to its SYSTEM w/Start-up Disc? BTW when I choose that route, the powerbook just boots to OSX Tiger.
THANKS for any replies, you all have been a great help with the challenges of upgrading...
    MSG-PWRBkG3
    PS:
Sorry for the long post. But, I have included as much up-front details as possible to assist in your replies. I also want to help others reading this thread later on as to what (correct or incorrect) procedures were followed... to help them see how these in-compatibility scenerios would be similiar to their situations... leading to solutions for all.

Thank you for including as much detail as you did. It makes it much easier to troubleshoot this type of issue. What I'll do is basically follow along with the procedure you used and point out where you (unknowingly) ran into problems.
"Back-up all files on the old 10GB HDD to an external USB drive."
Okay, I'm betting that this external USB drive was formatted as PC-Exchange/Windows format. Since this type of disk format doesn't have native support for the special "Mac" information about files (such as resource forks and HFS metadata like file type and creator codes), when Mac OS writes files to these disks, it needs to use a special method. When you copy the files from OS 9, OS 9 adds special "FINDER.DAT" files and also stores the resource-fork-parts of the original files inside a "RESOURCE.FRK" folder on the disk. My FAQ goes into more detail about this. When, from OS 9, you look at the files you just copied to the PC-formatted disk, and they appear identical to the files on your original 10 GB hard drive, that is in fact a complete illusion. The files as they exist on the PC-formatted disk are very different from what they appear. When you hook it up to your OS 9 Mac, the files appear fine, and you can copy them and have them work just like the original files did. If, on the other hand, you hook this PC-formatted hard drive up to your OS X Mac, it looks at the files in a completely different way. If you copy the files off of this disk from OS X, most of the files won't be usable.
"Remove old and replace w/new 40GB HDD, also install new 512MB PC-133 RAM module in lower slot."
"booted from old OS CD and ran Hard drive set-up utility with two partitions, one 30GB the other 10GB."
"Install OS 9.0.4 from that original Apple software CD onto the first 30GB partition."
"Onto same partition, ran OS-9 Update 9.1.0, then 9.2.1, then fireware update 4.1.8f5, then Update 9.2.1"
"Installed OS-X Tiger onto the first 30GB partition"
"Moved all backed-up files from the external USB drive onto the second 10GB partition."
If you did this from OS X, you will run into problems, whereas if you do this from OS 9, you'll be okay. The reason for this, as I mentioned above, is that OS X doesn't know how to "see" the files in the same way that OS 9 does.
This is what I would do. Make sure you still have the PC-formatted drive with the files you backed up from OS 9. Reboot into one of your versions of OS 9 that works properly. Hook up the external USB drive, and the files on it should appear properly and function properly. Now copy the files over onto your local hard drive and they should work properly as well. The files that you copied over from OS X won't be useful and can be deleted. Then reboot into OS X and you should be all set.
    Hope this helps....

Sounds to me like the file is probably corrupt. If you had hard drive corruption or damage, that could easily result in recovered files not being fully intact. If you were trying to recover accidentally deleted files, it's possible they might have been partially overwritten before recovering. There are never any guarantees with file recovery.
Without more information on the circumstances that led you to try recovery, it's hard to give advice on what to try from here. You could always try another file recovery tool, like Data Rescue 3. Just be sure you're taking appropriate precautions when doing recovery. See Recovering deleted files.

  • Premiere Pro 4 File Won't Open

    Hi all
I have an adobe premiere pro file that won't open. When I double click on it, the load project bar gets to about four fiths of the way, then it just stops. The last time I saved the file, I saved it to my computer, then I saved it to a portable hard drive to back it up (around four minutes later). Both versions of the file won't open. The previous file will open, but I have done 30 hours more work since then (on the new file). I thought it was enough to be saving every few minutes, saving back ups to a portable hard drive... I also have a raid 1 configuration! I was never expecting this. When I leave the Premiere Pro on the Load Project screen, it stays there for hours.
If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it.

    Hi John
Thanks for getting back to me. I just looked in autosave. The file that won't open was last saved at 11:02pm on the 16th. There was an autosave project at 10.25pm on the 16th, and that wouldn't open either (it crashes at exactly the same place as the other one). However, there was an autosave file at 6:17pm on the 16th that would open. Curious though, it doesn't seem to have a lot of the changes I thought I had made by this time. It seems to be earlier than this (although perhaps my memory isn't serving me correctly). Should there be more autosaves that this? I had the program open pretty much that whole time, and nothing between 6:17 and 10:25.
Anyway, that's a start! Something must have happened between 6.17pm and 10.25pm that'd made the file go kaput. I would love to know what, so I can avoid this happening again. First things first though, it'd be fantastic to get the file that isn't opening working.
Thanks for your swift response too, Jim. I opened PP and tried to open the file from the interface. The load project bar stopped at the same place. I can open other projects fine. As to your last suggestion, I created a new project, and went to File/Import then clicked on the file in question. It started importing, then the progress bar froze at exactly the same place. I'm not sure if I did this correctly. Is there another way to import a PP file into an existing PP?
Thanks again for your time. It's just nice to speak to someone about this because I really freaked out when it happened.

  • Files won't open on PS3

Files won't open on PS3 but are not corrupt. The open file when placed on flash drive and opened on another device.

You'll need to include much more information to get a useful answer here: which camera; raw files (assume so, but could be JPEG, TIFF); version of ACR (4.something); computer (Windows, Mac), etc.
Here's a wild guess though - you're using a new (or newish) camera with this older version of PS which (assuming you are trying to open raw files) doesn't support the camera in question. See this FAQ: http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2011/03/why-doesnt-my-version-of-photoshop-or-lightroom- support-my-camera.html
Hope this helps, but as I say, more information will allow folk on this forum to give you a more definitive answer.

  • Keynote '08 files won't open after cable replacement

After what I've read, I'm so glad I didn't have the Apple Store install Maverick when the cable had to be replaced in my MacBook Pro as a work around to a possible drive failure. I thought I had successfully reinstalled everything via disk and back up restoration, but no, my Keynote '08 files won't open in the original program that created them and need "a newer version." Not acceptable. Can someone help me with this? I teach and need my original files for editing!

I presume you mean Keynote version 4, part of the iWork 08 suite, (there is no version 08)
1 -  Delete the complete iWork 08 installation, you must use an application removal tool to do this correctly.
2 -  (Appcleaner from Mac Update is free and works perfectly for this)
3 -  Re-install iWork from the Installation CD and test

wierd thing is that on other computers the files open no problem.
by the way i reinstalled illustrator and the problem persists! are there cache files or preference files i can delete or something to do to reset illustrator completely that isnt done when i uninstall!?
this is done on a Mac Pro quad core, 4 Gb of ram, adobe cs 4, mac os x 10.5.8

    The problem was font related!
we took all the system fonts from another mac and overwrote all of the system fonts in the problematic mac.
