Illustrator Flattener Preview Bug?

Before I submit a bug report, just want to see if anyone else is having this issue because my computer has been acting up in other areas lately.
late 2009 - 27" iMac, Yosemite 10.10.1
Illustrator CC 18.1.1
The "Presets" drop down only says "Custom" in Flattener Preview.
They do appear in the Advanced tab of the Print Dialog.
If I go to Edit>Transparency Flattener Presets, I have the defaults (High, Medium, Low Resolution, For Complex Art.), but are not in the Flattener Preview.
If I go back to Edit>Transparency Flattener Presets create a new Custom preset, then the new costom preset and the defaults will then appear in the Flattener Preview.
But as soon as I close Ily and re-open, they dissappear again. I have to create a new custom preset OR delete one to get Flattener Preview to see the presets.
Just wondering if anyone else can duplicate this behavior, or is it just me.
As a side note, the dashed line for Opacity Masks is also unpredictable. As in, when applying an Opacity Mask, inside the Layers panel it sometimes will show up as a solid underline, like a Clipping Mask, and other times it will appear correctly as a dashed underline.

Same issue with me.
Most actions I create are unusable after restarting Illustrator.
I'm on Windows 7, AI version 17.1.0 (64-bit).
Let me illustrate the problem with a simple sample action.
When I create an action it works, and as you see Alignment item is expandable.
(Left image: before running the action, Right image: after running the action)
Upon restarting Illustrator the Alignment item is empty, the action doesn't work and I get an error dialog.
I have to delete and reload the actions and those are working again.
Here's the action I used. Just select 2 objects and press F11 or run the action.

Opening these in the browser or in a text editor, parameters are not present in the corrupted aia.

Flattener Preview - Highlight pulldown nothing available

I have been noticing that with certain files when I am using the Flattener preview there are no options available (grayed out) in the Highlight pulldown menu. However, other files do reveal available options. Now, what puzzles me is that both files can have outlined strokes but for some reason "Outlined Strokes" in the pulldown is grayed out in one file and not the other. This isn't limited to two specific files either. It happens with a number of my files. Illustrator CS, CS2 or CS3 are all affected the same way. So, I figure it has something to do in the way the file is set up. I like to use this to help find stokes that need to be expanded before sending off to press. Can anyone explain to me what is going on here?

BINGO! That worked. I drew a solid object and set it's color to a percentage, refreshed my Flattener Preview and behold selections in my Highlights drop down. Now I can see those hidden outlines in my artwork.

Flattener Preview Highlight Settings Grayed Out

Had to re-install of my Adobe programs due to an overal computer issue.
I am running Mac OS X 10.7.5 - Adobe Acrobat X - Adobe InDesign CS5.5
I have not had this issue before the reinstall. I have a Adobe InDesign file and did an export to PDF.
I chose Adobe PDF Preset - Smallest File Size, I used the default settings for Smallest File Size preset.
When I opened that file in Acrobat and went to Tools > Print Production > Flattener Preview
When the Flattener Preview window opens at the top it show preview settings. Under the "Highlight" section
the selections are grayed out. I am using items with tranparency within the PDF. Also I have successfully used this
option with this file before. Not sure what is causing the highlight options to be grayed out.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

After hours of messing with this I think I figured it out! Seems like a possible bug in the program. Turns out that even though pages throughout the PDF had trasparency, in this particular case, the first page in the PDF did not. So the "highlight" pull-down menu window is grayed out and it seems to be because the first page does not have transparency even though I had "all pages" checked.
So I went back into the PDF and selected a page that HAD transparency. Then when back into the flattener preview settings and clicked on "all pages" and went back to the "Highlight" menu and trasparency selections were there.
So seems like a weird bug in Acrobat that you have to have a page in the preview window that has transparency for it to work on all pages.
Hope this makes sense!

Apply watermark and then apply Flattener Preview via JavaScript

Hello all,
I have a bunch of PDF files which were generated from InDesign.
Currently I am applying a watermark to all the PDFs in Acrobat XI and then a flattener preview to all of the PDFs manually one PDF at a time.
I want to make a script which does all this.
I also tried the Action panel, but it didn't automate the flattener preview part.
I am comfortable with JavaScript and scripting in general.
Any help or a pointer to resources will be appreciated.

The flattener preview is located under "Print Production" panel. Where one can configure the text flattening options, among many other settings.
I want to flatten the text (convert it to outlines) via JavaScript as you have suggested.
Please suggest any sample code.

Rasterized regions in the Flattener Preview

Hi Everyone,
Does anyone know how I can programmatically find the regions that will be rasterized during the flattening process for output to EPS?
Within InDesign when you have a document open, if you navigate to the menu Window -> Output -> Flattener Preview to make sure the flattener preview is enabled, and you set it to highlight 'All Rasterized Regions' then it will show the parts of the document that will be flattened to a bitmap during output. For example if you have a drop shadow on some text, then the drop shadow part will be rasterized and when highlighting rasterized regions on the screen, the drop shadow will be highlighted in red. However I cannot work out how to get at this information from within my own plugin.
The reason I want this, is to include correct transparency information in preview thumbails created by SnapshotUtils. I know that by necessity the rasterized regions of the final postscript cannot be transparent, but if I use SnapshotUtils to create a preview image with transparency, it will show the rasterized regions as being transparent when they really are not. Obviously it would be better for me if SnapshotUtils marked the rasterized regions as not transparent, but I am happy to do this myself, it is just that I cannot work out how to find the geometry of the rasterized regions.
Does anyone have any ideas about how this could be done?

Flattener Preview (Print Production tools) Action Wizard

Hello,
Action Wizard offers lots of "Tools" but does not offer the Flattener Preview option (a Print Production tool). We want to create a action using transparency flattening, something we've done since Acrobat Pro 8, and appreciate any suggestions.

Black Preview Bug

Can someone tell me whether the black preview bug is a known issue? I have the latest Aperture version 1.5.6 and am using Leopard. As soon as I make an adjustment my preview vanishes to black. If I turn the adjustment off it returns.
For Pro software this is not what I would expect, Leopard release or not. This is causing a serious disruption to my workflow. Does any one have any workarounds for this issue other than exporting everything to Photoshop and adjusting there?

Some hit the problem, some don't. Some have reported it as "fixed" (i.e. no longer occuring) with subsequent Aperture or ProApps framework updates.
It seems to vary with the graphics hardware your machine has, and even sometimes according to what Colorsync profile you might be using.

Logo Still Blurry, Wondering if my Illustrator has a bug.

Ok ok, It's probably due to human error and not a bug, but I'm beginning to wonder as I continue to pull my hair out over this logo. I've never had such grief with a logo before. It's ok on the WordPress site, it's a bit less than ok on Houzz site and it's a Non-Starter on Twitter! At this point I have now tried to re-load it to twitter using Firefox instead of Chrome - to no avail! My friends really need this logo ready to go already! I'm truly at my wit's end. Btw, is there any chance that my illustrator has been infected, (maybe this free font I downloaded) I dunno, because I am also noticing that this one website (containing the logo) is very slow and crashy, yet none of my others are??
Oh, and when I 'inspected the element', (the logo while on twitter) there was this line about -moz - broken - image - something to that effect.

so on your site. when you take off the logo, does the site load smoothly?
it seems to me like you have a server request issue. in the inspector timeline your site doesn't do anything for long periods of time and then at the end all elements load within a second.
the logo you posted looks sharp on my screen. do you have a retina display?
you should also just continue on your old thread instead of making a new one so people don't ask you the same questions all over again.

Preview bug, not responding to key strokes in full screen view immediately

I've had leopard since it was released and have been very pleased with it for the most part. I update the software regularly.
My problem is that since moving to leopard I cannot use the arrow keys (being the primary ones that I use) immediately upon going into full screen mode of preview, this is very irritating as I use many pdf files and find full screen the best view. I can get around this by pressing play in full screen then pausing and reverting to the arrow keys, but using so many pdf files this becomes very tiresome. Is there a patch for this bug?

Preview bug - merging pdfs inserts wrong file

I have consistently been able to reproduce this bug. I often merge PDFs using Preview, by dragging a file from the Finder to Preview's thumbnail sidebar open to the document to which I am merging.
And what happens is that when I do that, the file that actually gets inserted is a file that I had previously done that operation with.
In other words:
I want to merge file A with file B, so I open file B with Preview, ensuring the thumbnail sidebar is visible. I drag file A from the Finder and drop it on top of file B's thumbnail. Hey Presto, the files are merged, and I save and close, and then delete file A from the Finder.
I then go to merge file C with file D. Repeating the process, when I drop file C from the Finder to the Preview sidebar, file A is what actually gets inserted into file D.
It's like it's cached and doesn't get overwritten by file C during the second process.

I haven't tried to reproduce the issue, but what happens if you quit and relaunch Preview before doing the second merge?

Illustrator breaks preview when I used it with LaTex

I am having a bizarre problem using Illustrator CS3 on Leopard. Here is the sequence of events:
1. I create a diagram in Illustrator. I save a copy of that diagram as an eps file (or as a pdf).
2. I embed that eps (or pdf) diagram as a figure in a LaTex document and compile it. The code I use is:

3. All the sudden, every pdf file I open has fonts that are all wrong! It's like somehow this breaks preview's ability to properly decode the fonts of all pdf files.
When I restart the computer, everything is strangely back to normal.

Illustrator CS5 rendering Bug?

Hi All,
This is my first post in this forum.
Recently I found this shared PDF rendering bug
by both Adobe products: Illustrator CS5 and
Adobe Reader X.
Look at the attached images.
Although these screenshots are from
Adobe Reader X and Nitro PDF Reader,
these shows exactly the rendering differences
between Illustrator Cs5 and Cs4.
The same PDF file opened fine in Illustrator CS4
and 8 different PDF viewers. It does not shows
these square clipping boxes around the words
"La Tormenta".
Why Adobe changed the way its products interpret
pdf files?

Illustrator files preview in thumbnails of windows

Hi all, I q this is one of the most common problems of the program, you can not preview files in Windows Explorer, you always have to use Adobe Bridge (sadly, because its performance is very slow and heavy) one knows a better way to work without using Adobe Bridge?. Thanks in advance for the replies.

AI files are a proprietary format so it's impossible for Windows to interpret it. Same for third-party image viewers and such. It's simply technically inherent.

Illustrator icon preview

Hi all.
Just got a new iMac with Snow Leopard and the CS4 upgrade.
My question: how can I consistently create Ilustrator files with a viewable thumbnail icon?
I opened one of my old Illustrator CS1 documents, then resaved it to my desktop and miraculously, it showed me the thumbnail icon with a complete view of the documents contents. So I thought: cool! Then I tried it again with another file and it only shows the Illustrator icon, no viewable thumbnail. Is there a particular way of saving the file in order to consistently show a thumbnail preview icon?

Files must be saved with PDF compatibility, as effectively the PDF part is what Finder uses to generate previews.

Illustrator File Previews are gone Since updating to CC 2014

I know that this has been a problem with previous versions of Illustrator as well, but I am still unsure if there is any fix that I can do on my end or not. I use to be able to preview all of my .ai files with Windows Explorer in Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, but since the CC 2014 update I have no previews at all. I know that I can preview files in Bridge, but that really doesn't fit my needs. I do over 3,000 jobs a year dating back 10+ years so searching for previous jobs with no preview is now a pain.
Does anyone know of a fix, or do I have to wait forever for an Adobe update of some sort? Anyone else having this problem?

So I'm the only person this has affected?
