Illustrator fonts messed up, help!

i have a bunch of fonts installed on my pc, when im in a word program, i can highlight the font and choose which font id like to use by simply pressing the arrow down key to look through all my fonts.
when im in illustrator, however, this doesnt work. whether i highlight the actual text or just have the text box selected, when i go into the characters table to edit and choose my font, i click the font name and will start at the top of the list and use my arrow keys to go up and down. this works for the first few key strokes, depending where i am in the list, but then ill be close to the top and after a few more down strokes i end up near the bottom of the list. and if i hit a certain few fonts, no matter how many times i press down to scroll down, it will just alternate between two fonts. the ONLY way i can view each font in the list is to manually click it with the mouse.
i run illustrator CS4 and i noticed when looking through computer file folders, illustrator didnt have a font folder but i see one in indesign. if i added a font folder to illustrator, can i pick and choose which fonts my illustrator program has vs. what my windows fonts uses?
im trying to fix this jumping problem but i really have no idea where to start.
the fonts within the font list in the illustrator drop menue also has a few dividing lines, why is that? as if fonts are in certain sections or divided by type maybe? i wasnt sure if this makes a difference to my main issue.

After installing some fonts bought online, applications like Flash, Dreamweaver, Internet browser such as Safari, Camino, IE and others has it fonts messed up.
Now when I browse the web or even search on Google, all the fonts messed up to some sort of destroyed. Please help !!! I tried to change the fonts from Safari Preferences and others; however, the problem still persist.

Did you have previous versions of the software on your system? No
Is the trouble with the download or the installation of the software? I am not sure but i think it may be the download. It shows that the download was complete and icon appears on the desktop. I plan to buy the ''Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design & Web Premium'' but i wanted to try it first via the free trials, especially Photoshop and Illustrator. So please let me know what i need to do.

What I ended up having to do was open up the Font book & remove duplicates. I knew it was Arial that was causing the problem, so I deleted the duplicate of that font. Inadvertantly I deleted all the Arial regular font, so I had to reinstall one copy. That was the solution. Thanks!

Embed fonts in AIR Help?

Hello,
Is there any way to embed fonts in AIR Help? I've noticed that fonts used in the Help must be installed on the user's computer for them to be displayed correctly (like with CHM files). I know the pages are just HTML but I thought (wished) that because AIR Help is an application, some magic might be worked in include fonts.

The fonts are whatever you specifiy in your CSS. To the best of my knowledge and without testing, you are reliant on those fonts being installed on the users PC. There is no way of embedding fonts that I am aware of.

About Java 2 opaque font color question, help needed!
I was trying to test opaque font (the string has a foreground color and a background color), but i can't find the method for doing that.
i can change foreground by Graphics2D.setPaint(Color.black).
Anybody know how to change the background of the string?

Hi. The way I'd do it would be to use the font metrics to find the length of a string and draw a rectangle and then drawstring over the rectangle. If you want an example, I can post it although I suspect theres a better way.

One simple way would be to save as/print to PDF, then print from Acrobat/Reader.
You could also make a copy of the file, then change the Artboard size and scale up the artwork and print from that (presuming you still wish to work in A4 or something).

Font downloaded to the Library in MAC cannot be found in my Illustrator CS5 fonts. PLease HELP!

I have added my fonts to the library in mac MAC. That was easy, but the funny or not so funny thing is, I cant find them in Illustrator.

There is more than one library folder on the mac, so the specific location may help troubelshoot this.
In you applications folder is fontbook, which is an easy to use drag and drop application for managing your fonts. If you enabled the font there, and it still does not show up in Illustrator you have a technical problem.
You can do a find for all .lst files on your computer and delete them. This will flush out your font database cache which can occasionally get corrupted.
The other reason you may not see the font is if you have a FOND ID conflict. This usually occurs when you load lots of fonts, as eventually you run into 2 fonts that have the same FOND ID number.

Adobe Illustrator font menu help

ok so i open my adobe illustrator today and i make a new file and went to put some text in and i notice that my font drop down menu is blank. so i click on it to get it to drop down and select a font, but its blank. there are no fonts in the menu. ive tried adding the fonts to the font folder, stopping the windows font cache service and nothing has been working. if i click in the drop down and goto type a font name out itll let me select it but when i goto type something in the font i chose it goes blank again.
im using illustrator CS version 11.0.0
Edit: ive also tried deleting the fontlst files as well

It may be worth trying to renew your preferences. You may Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (irreversibly) or Move the folder with Illy closed (reversibly).

CS5 Illustrator Font List is messed up

Adobe Illustrator CS4 [TAdd] Error HELP NEEDED!

I recently restored my HP Workstation and began the process of installing Adobe CS4. Everything seemed to be going smoothly until I clicked both Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Acrobat.
Adobe Illustraitor presents the [TAdd] Error while it is loading up the font menu during it's opening.
I've been looking all over for answers and so far haven't found any. Please help!

I'm not sure about the [TAdd] error, but if it's crashing while loading fonts, it's likely to be corrupt font caches.

If that doesn't help, then you can always try deleting your illustrator preferences, as they get corrupt from time to time as well.

Font Smoothing GONE--Help!!!

I'm running 10.6.2, and I pretty much have ZERO font smoothing whenever I ctrl-mouse zoom on any menu, any text, any program. This is on my MacBook Pro (2 years old) that had perfect font smoothing in Leopard.
I've turned off the CRT checkbox in System Preferences—doesn't help
I've used Terminal to run defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 1 and also tried 2 and 3 and even reverting to defaults—doesn't help
I've used Font Book to validate fonts and remove duplicates (especially after Office 2004 install)—doesn't help
I've also rebooted after all these operations—still almost zilch smoothing on zoom
Even Finder looks AWFUL
Help! My MBP looks like crap now!

That sounds good. A lot of tests to run! Hate to do the new user test, but will if I have to.
I am really leaning toward the Option-Command-"\" having (unintentionally) turned OFF Screen Zoom (under mouse or trackpad) Image Smoothing.
How could it take me so long to learn that there is Font Smoothing, and there is Image Smoothing. TWO DIFFERENT THINGS.
The Chain of Blame here is so convoluted it hurts my brain.
1. Evernote was trying to reinstall web clipping and/or its Safari plug-in ever since I converted to Snow Leopard. (Massive evidence of this in Console error messages, and they are hilarious: "Can't get Elephant!" and "Can't install icon!" over and over and over again. Just give it up, Evernote!)
2. So one day Evernote's interference with Safari messes up my executing the Option-Command-"\" command to log into my bank (it's normally a 1Password keyboard shortcut that works great in Safari).
3. Option-Command-"\" reverts back to its "normal" designation (turn on/off Screen Zoom (under mouse or trackpad) Image Smoothing).
4. I hit Option-Command-"\" repeatedly, trying to get the 1Password HUD to pop up in Safari. It doesn't.
5. By hitting Option-Command-"\" so many times, I unintentionally turn off Screen Zoom Image Smoothing. Only I don't realize it.
If this theory IS correct, then it's a simple fix!
The lesson learned would be:
System Preferences, Personal, Appearance, Font Smoothing
is a DIFFERENT preference from
System Preferences, Mouse/Trackpad, (Two Fingers), Screen Zoom, Options, Smooth Images
Of course, I'll report back just as soon as my SuperDuper backup finishes and I can try this test.
And if this IS the problem, well, I blame it on the elephant.

I'm sorry that you ran into trouble with this! In case you weren't aware, the Creative Cloud application needs to be running on your computer in order for the fonts to be synced. This help page shows how it works:

Once you have Creative Cloud running, please try turning off font sync, wait a moment, and then turn it back on. The option to do this is under the gear icon in Preferences > Creative Cloud > Fonts ("Typekit on/off"):
Sometimes the app just needs a fresh session for the fonts to appear again.
If that doesn't make a difference, please send me a screenshot of the Assets > Fonts tab in the Creative Cloud desktop application and your recent sync log files to [email protected], and we will take a closer look. Here are instructions on where to find the log files:
