Illustrator Graph Legends change location on refresh

I have just upgraded from Illustrator 10 to Illustrator CS4. I have thousands of repeating graphs we use for production of newsletters, books, etc. With Illustrator 10, I would use the Group Selection tool to move a graph's legend and text to the position I wanted them, and they stayed put every time I edited the data. Now, after importing into CS4, I'm discovering that although the graph parts of the legend stay put (lines, squares of color for columns), my text for the legends moves with every refresh. This is a major problem for me, since we can't be moving these manually over and over every time I add data to a graph or make changes.
I knew the text is handled very differently between 10 and CS4, so I tested recreating some of my most used graphs from scratch in CS4 to see if this would solve the problem. It's actually worse; the text moves position far to the right or to the top, depending on whether Add Legend Across Top is selected or not. I never use legends in either of these spots, we always put them inside the graph, or outside on the bottom.
I think I must be missing something in now to update these graphs in CS4 to keep the legend text from jumping all over the place. Please tell me I'm missing something!

OK, no answers to my specific question as of yet. So can I just ask if those of you who use the Graph tool fairly frequently can answer this. Once you create a graph, do you move the legend? And if you do reposition the legend manually in a custom position (not top or left in the default position), and then update the data with changes, additions, etc., do the graph legends stick for you, or do they move?

Try the example in attachment. When I change the position of the graph legend, the position of the total graph is changed!!! Or maybe I am doing something wrong?

Hi Pawell,
the Position property returns the top left coordinates of the front panel object including its related objects.
If you place the legend above the graph, the Y coordinates refers to the upper position of the legend box rectangle; this is why if you move the legend up and down, the graph position value changes although you are not moving the plot area.

Changing scale on Dual Axis on Illustrator Graph

Looking for some assistance on changing the scale when you have a dual axis, but only on one side. I can select the entire graph and change the left and right axis. However even when I select only one line (via the legend) I cannot just change one side. Appreciate any assistance....thanks

I have seen this happening on a PowerPivot workbook in which the selected option had no value, which triggered the chart to lose its configuration. This is a bug, though I would argue is a bug in the Pivot Charts and not in PowerPivot itself.
The solution I used was to remove the slicer option that yields no value (in your case it would be NA), so the user can only select valid combinations that retrieve a numeric output.

Excel Graph Legend Formatting - Report Generation Tool

Hi all,
I'm currently using the Report Generation Tool for Labview '11 and cannot seem to figure out how to edit the font properties for a graph's legend. Attached is a screenshot of an example output.
The Excel Graph Font.vi's Help file says that it should be able to modify the legend, yet I can't seem to figure out how to configure it to do so. If anyone can walk me through the steps or tell me what I am missing, I'd greatly appreciate it.

The Word object model is probably the most complicated of the Office suite and you are loosing the calculation ability of Excel.

Graph legend text oracle 11g

Hello everyeone, I´m migratting an aplicattion from 6i to 11g and I have a problem with graphs in reports. Now the report builder comes with an integretad wizard to generate graphs, but this wizard doesn´t let me to change the titles of the legend, it put the names of the columns from the query and I want to put my own text(static or dinamic) with blanks. I have tried to put an alias for the columns in the query, but the report builder changes every blank with a underscore so I think what I have to customize is the label for every column described on the legend changing the xml generated for the graph, but I don´t find the xml node in the documentation that I can use. I need help please!! thank you everyone.

I'm guessing you've already found the answer but try this if you haven't.
On the top line of the graph settings, you should see the dataValues. Add the same number of dataLabels and that may solve your problem.

Illustrator files automatically changing permissions to read only

My Adobe illustrator file are changing to read only by themselves. This becomes annoying because i'll have to unlock the file, change my own permissions, and then try to re-save the file. Otherwise... I'm stuck with the "Error -54" code every time i open up a file and try to save it.
using cs3 on latest leopard build.

In disk utility I had a look. I cannot verify or set permission (greyed out). The data coming back from info. How can I change this??

Can I change the order plots are written to an XY graph without changing their order in the plot array?

In LV6.1 the order in which plots are written to an XY graph is in reverse order from the order they appear in the array of plots that is feed to the XY graph control. Thus at places where �Plot 0� intersects �Plot 1�, the �Plot 0� data appears in front of the �Plot 1� data. I would like to reverse this without switching the order the plot array is built-up. Is this possible? I�ve attached a vi that demonstrates what I�m taking about. In my application I have many �highlights� that I do NOT want to list in the plot legend but that I wish to plot �over� the channel data that IS listed in the legend.

Thanks for this idea. I misunderstood what you meant until Jeremy responded saying you were �right on the money�. I thought you meant that putting another plot in the array but making it transparent was going to help somehow, but now I understand that you mean plotting the �up front� data to a separate XY graph indicator which is transparent and overlaying the original XY graph. I may wind-up doing this. I�m just not excited about linking all the scaling info from one graph to the scaling of the transparent graph and creating the necessary event handling so that when the user scales one graph or changes the auto-scaling, the other graph�s scales gets updated, but perhaps it�s the only way. I am trying to find as much detail as possible on the location of all Illustrator settings, preferences and application assets in Illustrator CC. There is some information in Adobe's online documentation, but it is incomplete, as far as I can tell:

Note: My work here is based on the English (US/Universal) install.

I am familiar with the locations of all of the files for Mac OS and am hvaing no problems with that.
The two Windows directories I listed seem to be allowing me to make changes and import settings from another build properly:
Application Data 1 (User-based):
C:\Users\~Username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator\17.0.0
Application Data 2 (User-based):
C:\Users\~Username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 17 Settings\en_US\x64
I was able to move some files in place there and get the application to respond as needed.
Also, on a related note, when I did similar things in Windows as I did in Mac, it failed in similar ways. Moving workspace data into the application on either OS seems to break the interface completely.

Graph-legends

I am displaying a graph with changing numbers of plots. The problem is that
I cannot find a way to change the number of legends shown for the plot.
There seems to be no attribute node and I can only specify it at
design-time.
For example: The HTV (Historical Trend Viewer) in BridgeView allways shows
only as many legend-entries as there are plots.
Does anyone know how to control the number of legends shown
programmatically?

Changing location of Iphoto library

I am looking to change my Iphoto library to an external hard drive, as my 250GB internal drive is just not large enough, especially as I am now using itunes to watch movies and TV shows. Is this a simple operation? The help menu has instruction on changing location but I am worried this just refers to a different folder within the internal hard drive.
Anyone got any suggestions

It's very simple.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

Graph Legend problem

I am using Studio Edition Version 11.1.1.0.1 and got some problems with graph legend. I have a Pie chart and a bar graph which are made from the same read only view object and I can´t understand why the legend on them don´t show the same things when they are made from the same view object. The pie has a status attribute choosen as slices and the bar graph has the same status attribute choosen as bars and it is these things I thought decide what names are shown in the legend. The values for the status are shown in the legend names but the pie shows the legend names in the same order as the query in the view object while the the bar graph show them in the opposite order. How can I make them show the legend names in the same order?

I've been told on Metalink that my problem can not be resolved in Reports 9i or 10G but a Internal enhancement request 3071917 has been logged.
Is it possible to have some timescales on this limitation?

I'd suggest that the easiest approach would be to add a trigger to the table:

The only downside to this approach would be if you want to store the OBI user and not the DB user. Effectively, you'd need to pass a parameter from OBI to the trigger to use instead of USER - bit more tricky...
Going back to your suggested approach, I don't think you need to worry about the RPD; the SQL that you define in the XML will bypass the RPD completely. In terms of what to use for the criteria for the report, you should be able to select the OBI user from a session variable and reference SYSDATE, SYSTIMESTAMP or the OBI equivalent to get what you need.

Yes. Old Mercator will mess you up everytime.
On the maps that only cover a small area, the scale makes sense, but on the map of the whole world, the scale is non-linear and not the same in all directions, so you can't use it for much.
