Illustrator images have white background

Why when I place AI images into my ID spreads do the AI images print with a white background? Bitmap or Photoshop images print with transparent backgrounds but AI images always have a white background.
Did I forget something in Illustrator?

When you open the place dialog, check the "show import options" box then check the transparent background box in the options section of the general tab. You can also choose the cropping there.
You only need to show the options again if you want to change them, and you can do it anytime, even with the box unchecked, by holding the shift key as you open the file.

  • Images with white backgrounds are grey - macbook pro

    When I create an image in photoshop or save an image from the internet with a white background, when I save it, it comes out grey. Photoshop says it's white (#ffffff) but it's not.
    For example I made a banner with a white background on photoshop for my blog, which has a white background. But when I saved the image and uploaded it, the background of the image is grey and you can see the difference. How do you get it to be white again?

    Took a few more photos, completely dark. It's more apparent when you're looking directly at it. These blemishes are perfectly aligned and centered from each other. The bleeding around the edges seems normal, but also displays large shadows and along other areas the bleeding transitions into the shadow.
    Unfortuneately where I live there is no Genius bar to get this taken care of directly and once and for all. The display clearly needs to be replaced and a manufacturer defect, but the "Mac" service guys locally claim the defect is "barely" visible and accused me of causing the damage and claiming the blemish is above certain keys on the keyboard that cause it. Whichever. This MBP has had issues since the day it was purchased, logic board replaced, battery replaced, ultra drive replaced, etc... etc... this is becoming very annoying when I'm writing my Psychology papers for class.
    I've been very patient with AppleCare each time I call, but I'm not receiving any support from Apple regarding this issue. Ridiculous!

    Make sure your layer is not a background layer If it is convert it to a normal layer.  Convert your Path to a selection to select your object then click the add layer mask Icon in the layer palette

  • After upgrading to SL I have white background in TM

    Why is this, everything else is fine and working perfectly.

    If Barry's suggestion doesn't work, try these:
    Do a +*Repair Disk*+ (not permissions) on your TM drive, via Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder).
    Re-select your TM drive via TM Preferences > Change Disk.
    If you're using Spaces, try disabling it, at least temporarily.
    If you have any sort of video out cable, especially HDMI, try disconnecting it, at least temporarily.
    Do a "complete reset" of TM, as in item #B3 Time Machine - Troubleshooting *User Tip.*.

  • Importing Cut Out Images from Photoshop w/out White Background?

    Hello Everyone,
    I am brand new to Illustrator. I have been a Photoshop user all these years. I am trying to import a photo to Illustrator CS5 that I cutout using this method:
    http://thedesigned.com/2009/08/21/how-to-cut-out-images-like-a-professional-in-photoshop/
    Unfortunately it superimposes itself into Illustrator with a white background when I thought it would be transparent surrounding the image. I opened the file in Illustrator as a PSD. But I tried .jpg as well. Anyone know how to work around this?
    Thanks!
    Randall

    Well from the looks of the tutorial which leaves a lot of info out you ended up flattening the image so that the background is now white but that is hard to tell from the tutorial.
    If your background is white you should rmove it in in photoshop and save the image as a psd with no background layer only a transparent layer of the subject.
    Then place that .psd in Illustrator and your background will be transparent.
    I suggest placing it rather than opeining it in AI.
    Like such: (even my signature is a psd on a tansparent layer.)

  • WORD doc x files show lettering changed from black to white with black background, colors have black background

    WORD doc x files received open with black lettering changed to white with black backgrounds. Color images have black backgrounds. There is no issue for non MAC users. How can I open the document as sent? Thank you.

    Pages (any version) is not a word clone, and may not digest Word documents as accurately as their native Microsoft application. Pages v5 is also far from feature/functionality complete, and that only compounds this issue.
    Suggest you download/install the free LibreOffice and open the Word documents with it. Do the artifacts persist in LibreOffice?

  • How do i live trace without the white background

    Im using cs3 photoshop and illustrator.
    I want an object lived traced in illustrator without an white background colour.
    I selected the object and cut it in photoshop and put it in a window with a transparant background, i saved it and opened it in illustrator, than it comes up without a background, but when i live trace it a white background comes up.

    You first have to expand the art, then proceed with the magic wand. Or select one white objekt with direct select and use Select > Same > fill color

  • Make white background transparent

    This Q must be very old. Why can´t someone invent a sigle button for this I have tried all the things by the book but still when I try to lay text image with white background over an image the white is still there althoug I made it transparent. tried to sa for web as png-8, png-24 and gif. nothing works. To use magic wand gives bad result when applied to text? So what can I do? I am trying to place text over image. I know I could write it over the image but I need the text as a transparent layer some place else.
    thanks

    Use one of the selection tools, e.g. selection brush, lasso tool, to select the object
    Place the object on its own layer -  Layer menu>new>layer via copy or CTRL+J
    Place a blank layer between the background layer and the layer with the object, then place your new background on this blank layer.
    You should have 3 layers: Background layer that you started with, the blank layer with substitute background, layer with object at top.
    Here I selected the swan
    Placed a blank layer below the layer with the swan
    Filled this layer with a gradient for demonstration.

    How do I get a white background with black lines and characters on
    my screen.Contrary to what you might think, the linebIG2.setBackground(Color.white);does not give the buffered image a white background. The API docs
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/java/awt/Graphics2D.html#setBackground(java.awt.Color)
    say: "Setting the background color in the Graphics2D context only
    affects the subsequent clearRect calls... " So adding a line to your
    if blocks we getif (false) {
        bIG2.setBackground(Color.white);
        bIG2.clearRect(0, 0, buIm.getWidth(), buIm.getHeight());
    if (false) {
        bIG2.setColor(Color.black);
    }Changing the false to true results in a white background (and black
    X and text).

  • White backgrounds around swf's

    I'm having some trouble with a site once I've uploaded it to
    the server.
    All my flash swf's have white backgrounds around them
    although I have specified a background colour of #2D44C8 to blend
    them into the site. I can not seem to get rid of the white
    backgrounds.
    The swf's display correctly on my pc, and work fine once
    embeded in dreamweaver and viewed on pc, but once site is uploaded
    I get the white backgrounds again, this can be seen on following
    link
    www.maplecroft-jewellers.co.uk
    Can anyone help me or give any advice, the files were created
    in CS3
    Sorry if this is a beginners question but it's really
    frustrating me
    Thanks

    Hello,
    The background area was set in flash to #2D44C8 in the fla
    file and displays correctly when published on pc.
    The "div" the swf file was inserted into in dreamweaver had a
    background colour of #2D44C8.
    The web pages displayed correctly on my pc but once uploaded,
    the background area's in the swf files had turned white?
    If this makes sense? I would like to know what I am doing
    wrong so I can stop it occuring in the future.

  • Removing white background around image in Illustrator

    I used the custom shape tool in Photoshop to make a paw print and then took it into Illustrator and used the Live Trace tool to vectorize it (as the image will be used in an Illustrator file). Now I cannot figure out how to remove the white background from around it. I have a gradient behind the image and must have the white box removed from it. I'm sure the method is probably quite simple but I am rather new to Illustrator so would greatly appreciate any advice! Thank you!!

    Sounds a pretty crooked workflow. Create the paw as a a path in Photoshop, select it with the path tool, copy&paste it into Illustrator. Works much better and avoids all pitfalls. For your trace problem: Make sure to choose Ignore White.
