Illustrator is Shrinking JPG when Imported from Photoshop

I just recently started working on a MAC (have been a PC user for years) and I have never had this problem with the DPI/PPI.  Not sure if it may be a Mac issue, a CC issue or user error on my part.
I create an image in photoshop ie 1900x600 300PPI, no resampling.  I import into Illustrator to the same size 1900x600 and the image is about 1/4 the size of the board.  So I go back into photoshop and change the PPI to 1200PPI with the same result.  The only way to get the image the save size it to quadrupule the size of the image in terms of pixels.  This seems rediculous to me and there must be an easier/more logical way of doing this.  i never had this issue on any of my other computers where I have a physical copy of the master collection which makes me think this could posisbly be a CC issue.
Any thoughts?

What you are explaining is different.  Anythign online is automatically 72dpi unless there is a download for a larger version so anything you bring in will already be small.  Then on top of that, if you a dragging straight from google images for example, it will grab the thumbnail image and place it on the artboard.  You best option would be to either get images from a stock site, create your own or if you need to image trace an image from online, Right click the image, Copy Image URL, paste it into the URL bar and then save the image directly to your computer.  Do not drag and drop on your desktop as the image (depending on your computer) will optomize the image to a low-rez image.  Then open the image in Illustrator and image trace.  Keep in mind that you have image tracing options you can use to get a better quality trace if needed.
Now back to my question, can anyone help?

  • I can't get my art cards to center when importing from photoshop.  iMovie 6

I've tried just about every size for the HD Widescreen.  I thought 1280x720 would get it.  It fits the window, but it is not centered and gets pushed right.  I need to use photoshop as I have a corporate logo and various sized type/colors on the same art card.  I have tried all the different types of HD settings and Widescreen is the only one that gets close.  I am using iMovie 6 as I like that interface better than the later ones.
    Thanks for any input

    I also prefer iMovie 6!
Not sure about the centering, but the correct ratios are:
    PAL (for Europe):
    Standard DV (4:3) 768 x 576
    DV Widescreen (16:9) 1050 x 576
    NTSC (for the USA):
    Standard DV (4:3) 720 x 528
    DV Widescreen (16:9) 874 x 480
Mind you, I have never bothered with the aspect ratio. I regularly use photos in jpg format (200 dpi) in 6.4 aspect and they always centre.
What format are your Art cards? If you save them as jpgs they should centre when imported in to iMovie from iPhoto.

  • Decreased picture resolution when importing from Photoshop Elements

When I export pictures from Photoshop Elements 7.0 to Premier Elements 7.0 the resolution decreases significantly.  I tried to "bypass" Photoshop by importing the pictures from my hard drive but ended up with the same problem.
Can anyone help me to locate a solution to this problem?
    Thanks.

This is because, when you port your slideshow to Premiere Elements, it becomes video -- and video has a resolution of essentially 640x480 pixels at 72 ppi.
If you'd like to save your slideshow at full resolution, you'll need to use one of the other export options -- and you'll need to make it playable on a computer, which has a higher resolution than your TV.

  • Do you see problems with text size when importing from Photoshop?

    Hi all -
We're working on improving some things in the Photoshop-to-Reflow workflow, and right
now specifically investigating trouble with imported text.
Aside from the desire to have support for local fonts, are there any problems you run into
when importing text from Photoshop into Reflow? We've heard some issues with text size and position,
but want to make sure we understand all of the cases.
If you have problems in this area, please share them in this thread, and I'd also love to get some
sample PSDs that demonstrate the problems. (You can send them directly to me; vmitnick at adobe dot com .)
    thanks,
    Vic

I'm using CS4.. and I'm using the standard "Save As" .pdf features....
and I'm reading it with adobe acrobat pro 9.1...
i think it has something to do with compression. but i can't figure out how to solve it. converting the text to symbols maybe?

  • Preserving time when importing from Photoshop Elements

I have about 15K photos that I am moving from Photoshop Elements on Windows to Aperture. In Elements all my photos are in time order sequence plus the liberal use of tags. The tags work fine but the time sequence does not. Most photos have the date for when they were taken plus additional dates for when they were edited and/or when they were copied when I upgraded Windows/Photoshop. Some photos were from APS film that Walmart copied to CDs and I manually set the date. I have checked the metadata on a random set of photos and the date used by Photoshop on Windows is correct.
My question is "Can I get Aperture to use the same rules as Photoshop Elements so that when I view "Photos" in Aperture, they will be in the same order. I check the manual; nothing on this. iPhoto has the same problem but then it doesn't support the same level of metadata as Aperture. Specifically, I need Aperture to support "Date Time Original" field when it is available. Otherwise, I will have to stay with Photoshop Elements.
    Anyone have a solution?
    Thanks
PS Using the change date/time facility is not a realistic option since it would take days of labour for something that is already contained in the metadata

This is because, when you port your slideshow to Premiere Elements, it becomes video -- and video has a resolution of essentially 640x480 pixels at 72 ppi.

  • Will images be dupliated when imported from Photoshop into iphoto?

I have a simple question really, I use photoshop CS3 to edit and catalogue all my photos but I use iphoto to store images that I upload to .mac gallery and other websites.
What I need to know is, does iphoto duplicate my copy in photoshop when I import it into the app?. Or is there just one location where both apps access it??I don't really want two copies of an image if I can help it! Thanks.

I suggest you use iPhoto to manage your photos with a "managed" library and use Photoshop as your editor from within iPhoto. That way you get the best of both worlds.
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • How to make Flash preserve color of layers with varying opacity when imported from Photoshop

I have a set of layers in a Photoshop .psd with varied opacities; when I import the psd layers to Flash as Flash layers, the colors of the layers is wrong - the lower the opacity percentage in PS, the more "off" the color is in Flash.  Photoshop measures the color of each layer as an RGB value - I don't know why Flash can't preserve the RGB values as well?  Any ideas would be appreciated.

    You mean like this?
    Use a gradient.

  • What size does a BluRay menu need to be when imported from Photoshop?

I found a nice menu that I'd like to use with a BluRay disk, but it is in SD 4x3 format.  I have sized it in Photoshop to 1920 x 1080, but it comes up with black spaces on the left and right of the screen.  What do I need to  resize it to in order to fill the screen?
    Thanks

In PS you could go up to (I believe) Image and select pixel aspect ratio and set to 1.0 and see how that works.

  • How Can I Delete Originals I Don't Care to Keep When Importing From SD Card?

    Hi All,
Just installed LR3 thanks to Santa. Have been going thru the video tutorials as well as the Lightroom_3_Help PDF and Lightroom-GettingStarted_Lo PDF but I can't figure out how to simply delete files from the gitgo when importing from SD Card or from my HDD (files already moved to HDD but not yet culled or imported into LR3). I was hoping I could, in LIBRARY, just r/c on a file that is plainly not worth keeping and just delete it so I dont have to do it later. Seems like I could, this way, be able to concentrate more on the shots requiring editing.
Also, need suggestions as to how I should import my files using DNG, Copy, Move, or Add. First off, I am not a working pro but am an occasional serious amateur. I'm picky and I like things to look good the first time and I like options.  The pix already on my HDD are in the PICTURES folder; those imported from SD card get moved to that PICTURES folder. I have, in the past, moved the processed verssions to a different DESTINATION folder - now I still have the originals and I have processed copies to post and share.
I understand that LR3 does ND editing but I assume that if I only keep a DNG then any time I want a JPEG or PNG of a picture I have to open LR3 to make one. Since I only have been shooting a few hundred pix a year (though with my new D5000 this will change) I am not gonna load up my HDD any time soon. So, is there a way I can make a DNG file, keep the original RAW or JPEG file AND save a processed JPEG or PNG copy in my DESTINATION folder in one swell foop?
    Thanks in advance,
    Phil in San Diego

The LR Exchange site has three plug-ins that allow you to keep a "mirror" copy of your DNG/RAW images in JPG format for use by others without having to go into LR and generate them when needed.  The link is:

One of them should help you with this.

  • Import from Photoshop Album PSA to Lightroom (same in Elements?)

    Hi,
here my experience with the import from Photoshop Album to Lightroom.
    1. Tags and Collection import
    > OK
    2. Tagging of the imported images
    > NOT ALL of the imported pictures where Tagged!!!
This is really annoying, as you have no way to know it
    before you search for them.
    3. Import of the edited version of the pictures
    > When a picture as been edited in Album, only the ORIGINAL one
is imported in Lightroom, not the edited one.
    > At least, the edited one could have been imported with the original
    in a stack!!
Import functionality is crap for now if you ask me.
    What is your experience?
    Régis

Because I've used PSA, PS and now CS2 and 3 for years, I had really hoped--indeed, assumed--that LR would be an elegant and trouble-free solution with which to migrate a large and growing catalog away from the slowness and lack of view in PSA, as well as adding RAW-handling ability (since storage dropped through the floor, I shoot JPEG and RAW by default). While the LR interface is pretty and the fleur-de-lis whimsical, LR is in my admittedly-limited experience neither elegant nor trouble-free from a database perspective. Perhaps in a few versions it will be, but it isn't now. The PSA import was a joke, operations are slow, and despite preference settings, it fires up whenever I hook up anything which XP considers to be an external drive. I have since licensed a previously-installed demo copy of IMatch, which I'd been holding off doing based on my flased LR assumption. Importing PSA to IMatch requires some simple under-the-hood work in Access (there are posted routines to accomplish this), but once that was done the import was flawless, with all PSA tags in their own cubbyhole and associated with the proper images. Why Adobe didn't facilitate this is a real head-scratcher.

  • Importing From photoshop to flash

After importing from photoshop to flash to create a website, the background image that i had within photoshop was set to 1304x700 pixels but when i imported it into flash the image changed to the canvas size that i had made the document in photoshop which was 1000x700 pixels.  Now i can change the size of the image when it has been imported into flash to 1304x700 but it obviously messes up my pic quality.
Can someone please help me lol im new to this. I might go mad shortly, ive tried importing it three times now.

  • Why is everything I import from Photoshop pixelated?

I'm using both Adobe After Effects CS5 and Adobe Photoshop CS5 and no matter what I import from Photoshop, wheather it'd be an image or text or anything, it is always pixelated.. It has nothing to do with the size because no matter what the scale is, it's always pixelated.. I'll create an image in Photoshop and then save it as either a .jpeg or a .png file and when I import them to After Effects they are very pixelated to the point where you can't make out what the image is.. Is there a setting I need to change or something? I need help fast.. Please help Adobe Community!

Frankly, I don't know one way or the other.  I haven't read many of the emails waiting at home from Adobe because I don't get on my home email very frequently.

  • Bad image quality when importing from word

When importing from MS Word 2003 to RH X5.0.2, embedded
images are converted to jpg whith an obviously quite moderate
compression qulity. This is particularly evident for screenshots.
Is there a way to improve the image quality?

Peter , these images were copied and pasted directly in to
the Word-document (using the Print Screen button) but I did find
out something. RoboHelp generates two image files of the types PNG
and JPG for each Word image (named, e.g., image102.png and
image103.jpg). Regretably, the lesser quality JPG is always
referenced in the topics instead of the much better PNG. Sometimes
the two images greately differ in size (pixel size), but most of
the time they are about the same size.
So the task might be to change the references in all topics
using a script and then manually checking the images for their
    size.
An observation: Any GIF images in the Word file (i.e., real
*.gif files that were inserted over the Insert menue) remain GIF
files after the import, they are not converted and maintain a good
    quality.

  • Different Colors when printing from Photoshop and InDesign CS3

Different Colors when printing from Photoshop and InDesign CS3
    I have the following problem:
When printing from Photoshop or InDesign to a PostScript printer, Adobe recommends to let Photoshop handle the colors (I use the German version, so I don't know the exact term used, it changes slightly in all CS3 apps anyway).
The manufacturer however told me to let the PostScript printer handle the colors.
When I chose this option in Ps's print dialog and then choose ISO Coated as the printer pfofile, the results are fine.
But when I place the exact same image in an InDesign file and print from InDesign or export to PDF and print via Acrobat, again using "Printer handles colors", the results are the exact same as if I had used Ps and chosen to let Ps handle the colors (way too saturated and a bit too red).
    ·Photoshop CS3
    ·InDesign CS3
·Test image is a TIFF in CMYK Fogra 27 Coated (which is also the working color space in Ps and ID.
    ·Printer: Xerox Docucolor 3535
    ·Printer profile: ISO Coated
How can I make sure the printer handles the colors in other CS3 apps than Ps? I tried it with ID's print dialog (translated from the German version: Color Management > Options > Color Handling: PostScript-printer decides colors).
    Thanks a lot!

RE: "You don't indicate what Xerox printers you have"
In my first post I named it, is that the information you need?
    Docucolor 3535 using Splash 3535
That's interesting, so I have to find a way to turn off the printer's Color Management function? I mailed them, hope they can tell me how to do it easily. They usually just tell me to not use any profiles and so on, but that's the general rule in this area, I'm really tired of hearing it. Everybody seems to think profiles and LAB mode are nuclear science and I should stay away from it.
Anyway, the test image I'm using is a simple photograph (size A3, 300dpi), so no transparencies at all. I'm placing this image into an equally large ID file and print it from ID, then export it to PDF-X/3 and print it from Acrobat. Hope that helps.
