Illustrator issues with After Effects CS5

It seems i have discovered a bug with CS5 illsutrator files and CS5 After Effects. When importing illustrator files or layers into AE working on the project, saving, closing and then reopening the same project, the illustrator files apepar to be present in the project window but actually need to be reloaded in order for them to register properly and therefore be visible in the composition window.
Subsequentally, when rendring these comps without "reloading" the illsutrator files the renders, as expected are missing the illustrator elements.
This issue has been recently been acknowledged by Adobe and I am told is going to require an engineering fix. As of right now there has not been a projected date for the patch or update. As a work around in the meantime, Adobe recommends when working with Illustrator CS5 in comjunction with AE to save illustrator files as Illustrator CS4 files and then import for use in CS5 AE.

Let us know whether that is working for you.
Is this Windows-specific? I've never had this problem on my Macs. I'm on CS5, not 5.5.

  • Serious resolution issues with After Effects CC (2014) on Windows 8.1 Pro on Dell Precision M3800 laptop??

My new company installed Adobe Creative Cloud (There was some annoying Proxy issues at first, because of the seriously tight I.T policies) but we are having some serious resolution issues with After Effects CC 2014 (also have this resolution problem with Adobe Premiere, Media Encoder, Muse) on Windows 8.1 Pro on a Dell Precision M3800 laptop with icons and interface looking too small and hard to see, is there a fix, an update or a work around, can anyone help?
    Any help will be appreciated!
    k.regards
    Ramon

Hi Todd is there a time-frame for this fix, there is a lot of pressure on me, because I convinced my company to get the Creative Cloud and quite a lot of the CC software is not compatible with the latest Windows 8.1 OS.
Is there at least a work around, until this big fix comes along?

  • CC Smear issues with After Effects CC

I have tried to use the CC Smear tool for a project. I have tried doing it on After effects CS5, CS6 and CC. Everytime I use the tool it causes tearing or distortion. I am assuming this is the bug that was suppose to be fixed with After Effects CC? I have downloaded the latest update for after effects CC but it still does it. I still have After Effects CS6 installed if that might be related to the issue? I have included a pic which shows on this frame the image has tried to regenerate and has added grey matter also.
    Any suggestions? Thank You

I'm honestly not clear on what you are trying to say here. There is no bug, the tool works just fine. Deducting from your image I can only see that you are using a layer style and that may actualyl be the problem - they are applied after any effects and may look odd if the layer content produces semi-transparent areas. Well, whatever, the same old AE trope is true: In case of doubt, pre-compose.

  • Crash with Directional Blur effect on 12-core Mac with After Effects CS5

We've gotten a few reports of crashes when applying the Directional Blur effect (and modifying its properties) in After Effects CS5 on a 12-core Mac. See this post for details and a proposed workaround.
Please use this thread for feedback on this crash and the proposed workaround. Is it working for you? Do you have this crash on a different system?

The "Unexpected data type" error bug and the crash with Directional Blur have been fixed in the After Effects CS5 (10.0.2) update.
Let us know after you've installed the update whether this is working for you.

  • Illustrator layers into After Effects CS5

A client supplied an eps Logo with one layer and many "sub-layers" (sorry, don't know Illustrator well enough to call them anything else but
it's broken down to every tiny element such as every letter, portions of graphics, etc.),
When importing into AE CS5, it just recognizes the one "layer" like it was flattened. How do I separate these other layers in AI or After Effects
    so I can animate them?

You need to import the document as a composition to get access to the individual layers.
See this page for information on preparing files in Illustrator: "Preparing and importing Illustrator files"
See this page for information about importing layered still images as compositions: "Importing a still image as a composition"

  • Having Issues with after effects, advice needed

Hi I am having some unusual issues and a general question about after effects. The first question is how to remove all the thumb marks that i keep making ever time move the time line indicator down the time line, it auto creates thumb marks that I don't want.
The second issue and this is a odd one is that i have two files 1) about 3 gb and 2) about 5 gb and the 5 gb I cut in half for the final rendering but i come out with a 168gb avi file???
How did I use about 6gb of footage and render it out to 168gb I'm confused.
I am using the general settings, I used avi because my trail version is not showing any other animation type like QuickTime movie (which is what I really would prefer) I don't understand where is all the extra data is coming from.
This file is so big it pauses for a fraction of a second every 2 seconds of footage when played via a player like window media player.
    I would love any help.
    Thanks

First, I very strongly recommend that you start at the beginning and take the time to work through these basic materials to learn After Effects:
    http://adobe.ly/bjBT3P
Your questions show a lack of basic terminology, so it's going to be very hard for us to help you until you learn at least enough so that we're using the same language.
Regarding QuickTime: You need to install QuickTime. You can get it from the Apple website.
Regarding large output files, heed Rick's advice and use the FAQ list for this forum, specifically this item:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/684381
Finally, it sounds like you've turned on auto-keyframing. If so, turn it off.

  • Rendering issues in after effects cs5

Hi, I am currently using the trial version
    of adobe production premium cs5
and I am having problems with the rendering. It works fine, but for some reason it keeps making these sort of huge files, like a 1min14 video gave me a 12 gb file! Then I decided to change the format from avi to quicktime, and from animation to photo jpeg. It did help alot, by reducing it to 2gb, but that still is a very big file! So basically I'm not sure what to do.
    I need help please!
    Thank you
ps: this is in after effects (just a heads up)

  • Font Issue with After Effects CC

I am running After Effects CC (on Mavericks).
After creating an animation using fonts from Typekit, I now am having trouble where the fonts flicker back and forth between two different ones during the animation. At first, I thought I accidentally did something with animating it, but after deleting that type layer, creating a new layer, saving, exiting and returning, I now have the same issue.
The last time after rendering a video, these error messages popped up:
after effects problem invalid glyph ID (83::2)
    After Effects warning: Unknown Exception
So I force quit the program. When restarting it, the error message below shows:
These are the fonts that have trouble. It looks like it is flickering between ProximaNova bold and regular. What is causing this and how can I fix it?
Lately I've had trouble syncing to the cloud.

I first downloaded the fonts with typekit, then created the project in After Effects. I just tried to purge the Image Cache Memory but it made no difference. It's strange that in one text layer, I use two fonts, in two weights. Proxima Nova thin and Magneta bold. The issue is that one of the words in Magneta bold (but not all of them) will flicker between bold and regular. I paused it when it looks like the regular weight and it still says it is bold even though it isn't.
I just selected it changed it to another weight and then to the one I wanted and now it looks fine. Any suggestions on how to avoid this in the future? It's happened twice already.

  • Issue with After Effects dynamic link CC2014

    Hi guys,
I'm french user and i got an issue using dynamic link between after Effects CC2014 and Première Pro CC2014.
I´m importing via dynamic link my PP sequence in AE. Import is OK but i'm unable to put the sequence into a comp !
If i´m using PP to send a sequence into a AE comp, AE breaks and displays " After Effects error : strange situation. "
    Anybody knows what happens ?
Desinstall / reinstall but nothing changes.
Please help me. Thank you guys !

It would help us to know what kind of system you are using and what type of footage. PPro will work on some types of footage that AE has a problem with. Have you followed this exact workflow before? Did this workflow work in previous versions of After Effects and Premiere Pro?

  • Serious Issues with After Effects CS6 and CC

Wife updated computer to Mavericks and now I can't open AE CS6 at all - I've downloaded all the updates, but am getting message: "After Effects warning: Could not rename the file 'Users/christophersprinkle/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/11.0/Workspaces.2678.1407352277696161.xml' to 'Workspaces.xml'
There isn't even a file named as the above ...
That warning is followed by "After Effects can't continue: unexpected failure during application startup"
When I try to open the project I'm working on with AE CC, it refuses to open it.
    Please help.  Am seriously screwed.

  • MBP 17" 2,3 GHz - After Effects CS5.5 is not usable - too slow

    Hey!
I am a motiongraphics artist working mainly with After Effects CS5.5. I am coming from PC and I am quite new to the Mac-World. But for now I am not really satisfied - actually very disappointed. I have worked the last three years on a cheapo Acer Laptop - and I really have to say it was at least (I am not kidding!) twice as fast as my new MBP mid 2011. The other Adobe Apps don't run that good either - though I have to say I haven't had to work with them as much as with AE 5.5.
To name one thing that is really slow: Ram Preview, in the first place it takes ages per frame to render it, then mostly when it's done with rendering it is not played in realtime (more 1,2 fps ... in this range). So it's really not fun to work with this combination MBP + AE.
This can't be. The Macbook was 4x as expensive. And was build 3 years later. What's wrong with the Macbook?
    My Specs:
2,3 GHz MBP mid 2011, 4 GB Ram (going to be 8 GB soon), 750 GB HDD, Hi-Res 17" Matte, OS X 10.6.7
I already tried running Windows 7 on this Macbook it was so terrible that I was kinda frightend and really just wanted to bring it back to the shop. But maybe there is some way I can fix this?
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Cheers!

And  I always thought OS X / Apple Hardware was the way to go in the video-business. Obviously I was wrong all along.
The problem is OSX Lion not the specs of the hardware or CS5.x
If you can manage to revert the OS back to Snow Leopard ( which also can run 64bit software ), I bet your issues will be fixed.
And if you want to give Apples own Video-software a shot, then stay away from FinalCut X which has the same "quality" like the Lion..
Sorry, just saw that you have no Lion, I was redirected here from within Lions forum..

  • After Effects CS5 Crashes on save dialog

Hi folks, I'm new to the forum. I am having a big problem with After Effects CS5. After the program has been open for a while, when I try to save, the program freezes (the first few saves go okay, if not a little slowly). I cannot even close it with CTRL+ALT+DELETE, I have to restart my computer. I am working on a PC with an Intel Core i7 Processor with 24 GB of Ram. Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Doesn't seem to make a difference how big or small the project is. After Effects is completely up to date, I actually installed the latest update today, but it made no difference. I hope someone can help. After Effects is a big part of how I make a living and this is killing me! Thank you so much for any help in advance

Umm, yeah. But to what location are you saving? You left out the most important info and since you speak about generally slow saves it stands to reason that you have a hardware issue here...

  • After Effects CS5 timewarp troubles

    Hello all,
Was hoping someone could help me out with a wierd problem I am having trying to apply timewarp with after effects CS5.
I have previously used it for high quality slow motion using the pixel motion option in PPro CS4. Heres what I do.
While in PPro CS5 i would select the small portion(clip) I wish to apply the timewarp to and use the "Replace with after effects composition option." This opens the clip in after affects as normal and is fine at that point. My selected clip appears on the AE timeline ready to play with. Now....
When I apply the "Time Warp" effect, the clip on the timeline changes to a completely different one. I don't mean it changes to a different point on the clip that was imported, I mean it changes to a completely different clip where the footage I wanted to apply it to isn't even available. As soon as I delete the time warp effect the original clip returns. This has happened to me now on my last 3 projects.
If anyone has any ideas where I may be going wrong I would appreciate it. But as it is at the moment I can't use timewarp.
    Thanks
    John

This is in reply to OP J Maggs and RustedX:
Hey guys I feel your pain. I am taking the time to reply just because I had the SAME problem and researched all over the internet and wasn't available to find much specifically about my case which it seems to be EXACTLY what happens/ed to RustedX.
I've got a 16 seconds clip, shot with a Canon 7D at 1280x720 60fps. I wanted to slow it down to 5% with After Effects CS4's Timewarp. So, because I tried the same effect with Apple Motion (with success), I knew the new time of the clip was going to be 5:30 minutes long. So I changed my comp time from 16 seconds to 5:30 minutes. I dropped the clip in to my comp timeline (which showed me a little 16 seconds clip into my 5:30 minutes comp) and applied the Timewarp effect to my new layer. It did slowed it down but still the clip on the layer was at 5% but only for 16 seconds. Meaning it should had been a 5:30 minutes clip, but stayed slowed down at 5% for only 16 seconds. So, I sent to render because I thought 4gb or ram probably wasn't enough or something, and it came out a nice 5:30 minutes long clip with 16 seconds of slow motion at 5% and the rest of the clip is completely black.
I wasn't UNABLE to extend that @#$%!V little clip on my time line. I used all the methods I know (even the ones posted at http://help.adobe.com/en_US/aftereffects/cs/using/WS3878526689cb91655866c1103906c6dea-7e70 a.html [although are for CS5]), but I had no luck. I am not sure, perhaps I did not perform those properly.
It took me almost 3 days of research now (in and out of course), but finally I found a solution (at least for my case) and I am posting it here now in hope it will help more people with the same issue.
    What finally worked was this:
I selected my layer with the clip on my timeline, and I right clicked on the layer not the comp and selected Time -> Enable Time Remapping
    And voula!
My layer with the clip was extended all the way until the end of my comp and was able to preview the results as I was scrolling over the time line.
My goodness, finally! What a relief after all those hours of surfing the web for an specific answer
Oh well, I hope this helps some else!!
    Have a great Timewarping guys!!

  • Updated document about QuickTime errors with After Effects (re: H.264 and hyperthreading)

I just updated "troubleshooting QuickTime errors with After Effects CS5, CS5.5, and CS6" with information about hyperthreading and Apple's H.264 encoder.
The gist is that Apple's H.264 exporter component for QuickTime fails when the computer has a large number of CPUs.

No, this applies to any QuickTime H.264 export. You can export H.264 in a QuickTime .mov wrapper out of AME, too, and it will have this problem.
The various H.264 encoding presets (for YouTube, Blu-ray, Vimeo, iPad, etc.) don't use the H.264 QuickTime component, so this isn't relevant to them.
This problem is just relevant to choosing Apple's H.264 as the video codec when choosing QuickTime as a format. This applies to all software that uses QuickTime, by the way, not just Adobe software.
