Illustrator Layer positions are off in AE5.5

Hello Kind Forum Geniuses,
I'm having trouble with after effects projects in CS5.5. The projects in question were originally created using CS4. Basically we have a number of Illustrator assets (also created with cs4) that were imported as compositions (without retaining layer size). When these projects are opened in CS5.5, the layers are all over the place. I've tried opening the illustrator files and saving as CS5, but that doesn't seem to work. The funny thing is that we aren't having problems with any illustrator files brought in as a comp retaining layer size.
Anyone hear of a fix for this issue?
Thanks,
Dennis

Thanks for the reply, Mylenium. I just tried saving the illustrator files down to CS3 with no success. We thought that maybe Adobe changed the way that they handled the "artboards" in Illustrator and that was the root of the issue, but we have no way of telling. I'm hoping there's a solution other than manually updating each layer in our projects (hundreds at this point!).

  • Keyboard shortcut to toggle a specific layer on/off regardless of what layer you are on?

    I just recently discovered the keyboard shortcut for toggling the current layer on and off and it is an incredible time saver.  Is it possible to create a keyboard shortcut dedicated to toggle a specific layer on and off regardless of what layer I am working on?  I use Photoshop for painting and I'll have a layer set up like an overlay, with my line drawing set to Multiply blending mode at about 25% opacity.  However, as the painting progresses, I need to turn that layer on and off continuously to be able to see my painting without the lines overlayed.  I know I lose a lot of time having to go over and turn the eye off and then back on over on the layers pallete.  I've tried setting something up as an Action, and had a shortlived success, but when I added new layers or moved them around after setting it up, it stops working.  I have to say, it was my first attempt at creating an Action of any kind, so there may be a way to keep it working regardless of what I do to the other layers, I just couldn't seem to figure it out.   Having the ability to somehow dedicate a key for quick toggling of my drawing layer would be another tremendous time saver.  I've looked around and have not been able to find anything on this subject, so I apologize if it's already been covered.
    Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Thank you so much for your quick reply.  I haven't heard of Scripts before, so I will definitely look into that.  I've only really been using Photoshop for a little over a year and  I can see there is much to learn.
    Thanks again for your help!

  • Layer position resets when creating animations

    I'm creating an animated gif from a video clip (cinemagraph). In order to acheive the effect I need, I need to move each layer with the move tool to get an object to stay in the same position. I have gone through layer by layer and used the move tool to move the contents of each layer. When I play the animation I see the layers in the position I put them in. As soon as I stop playing the animation the contents of each layer snap back to their original positions. I have tried using the lock tools (both lock position and lock all) but they don't make a difference. Can anyone tell me why layer positions would reset when creating animations and how to get it to stop?
    Thanks for any help.
    Eric

    It seems from your answer that you're thinking I'm just moving one frame and expecting the rest of them to move automatically (but I'm not sure if that's what you are saying). I have gone through and moved each frame individually and then locked each frame's position individually. When I play the animation and then stop it the layers move back to their original positions.
    I'm also not sure if you're thinking I'm expecting that when I move one image off the layer it will affect the next layer. That's not what I'm expecting. I'm just repositioning the image on each layer to get a particular object to stay in one place (the camera was moving while shooting), so I'm dealin gwith each layer individually.

  • Layer position misBehavior..!    -(  help ? )-

    On any of the various pages I'd been putting together recently, I get confusing responses.
    When I come back to verify link settings before publishing (locally), some of the links refuse to be positioned frontmost. Then I discover that a few of the other graphics in its neighborhood refuse to be directed backmost.
    I've seen so much of this 'misbehavior' that I've developed the pattern of changing the opacity of any questionable link -(back to almost full)- just to determine from it's coloring where in the layer hierarchy it's decided to settle.
    I tried duplicating another, properly behaving link, and changing its setting to the link I'd had to delete. That would only stay front most until it I'd moved it near the old position.
    My experience has been that a newly duplicated item, iWeb would deposit on the page as frontmost
    But these new links seemed to change their layer mind when they'd get close to the layer position they were replacing. Their now temporarily fully colored area would slide behind any item(s) in the current problem area.
    I've tried several workarounds - most of them from within the same page. But the only thing that seems to work consistently has been to select something similar from another page where they seemed to be behaving correctly. Then I'd copy them from there and paste them into the new page as a group and change any text or graphic components as necessary.
    It sure has become tedious keeping up with these iWeb neuroses.!
    Does anyone know why this might be happening..?
    -(my domain file size currently is around 16 mB, probably half of which is temp. archived graphics )-
    -( for the interim, totally publishing locally)-
    Has anyone a cure for this peripatetic behavior..?
    Is there any easier workaround..?
    Much advance appreciation for any tediosity relief.!

    One way to do that would be to use two images: one blurred, one not. then use a mask to show and hide one or the other. You can probably adapt this example file: http://www.ddg-designs.com/downloads/mask.zip

  • Firefox is filling the entire screen so that the controls are off the top & bottom of the screen, & I have to log off the computer to get out of Mozilla.

    Usually, there are controls at the top & bottom of the screen, & I can log off whatever program I'm in, but now Firefox is filling the whole screen: I can go from one tab to another within Firefox; however, I can't get out of Firefox without logging off the computer.

    It is possible that the screen is too high and that the title bar and status bar do not show.
    Open the system menu via Alt+Space and see if you can resize that window.
    If that works then close Firefox to save that setting.

  • Illustrator Smart Objects are "Linking" to each other in PS file.

    This strange behavior started after I upgraded to the latest PS CC which includes the "linked" vs "embedded" smart object feature.
    When I edit previously created PS files that contain mulitple linked Illustrator smart objects, an edit to one smart object will update a different smart object within the same file. These are not duplicates of a single smart object layer, they are completely independent smart objects, containing different graphics.
    Has anyone else seen this? Is there anyway to break the link between all Illustrator graphics within a document so this won't continue to happen?

    Here'a link to the original file. http://adobe.ly/1d6uwA1
    This was created with PS CS6. I recently had to do some modifications to it, and that's when I noticed the strange behavior with SO. Of course when I tried to duplicate the weirdness this morning, I was unable to do so. I know for certain though, that on two different occasions I updated one SO layer and the it replaced the contents of a different SO layer.
    I did notice some other oddities while playing with this today. Here's what I did.
    Open the file, and save with a new name to make a copy.
    Edit a couple SO layers with Illustrator
    Close the file and save
    Open the file back in PS and again edit a SO
    This time when I save the SO I get this message "This file has been modified outside of Illustrator. Do you want to continue". I say yes to save it. I only get this message after I have closed the file and reopened it for more edits.
    Another oddity; if I leave a SO open in Illustrator by just saving without closing the file. Then close the Photoshop file linked to that SO. When I open a new Photoshop file and try to open a SO within it, PS thinks the SO that was left open is the one I want to work on. I have to close out the previous SO to get the new one to open correctly.
    I work with a lot of Illustrator SO's in PS. So I will continue to monitor what happens, and try to pay very close attention to what steps I took if and when the weirdly linked SO layers happens again.

  • Which Illustrator CS3 files are editable in Microsoft Word?

    Dear all
    I need to design something using InDesign and Illustrator CS3 (or just one of these depending on the responses I get).
    Is is possible to save a particular file type out of either Illustrator or InDesign which can then be opened & edited in Microsoft Word (on a PC)? It would mainly just be text which would need to be edited in Word afterwards.
    Thanks in advance,
    Adam

    >Which Illustrator CS3 files are editable in Microsoft Word?
    None of them.
    >Is is possible to save a particular file type out of either Illustrator or InDesign which can then be opened & edited in Microsoft Word (on a PC)?
    You can export text from InDesign and open/edit that text file in Word, but you will not get layout, page size, columns, margins, or graphics. You can export art from Illustrator as EMF or PNG (I much prefer PNG) them import those graphics normally and position as you want.
    Making your Illustrator or InDesign file into an editable Word file means doing a lot of it over again in a much worst interface.

  • Layer Positions - absolute

    Having problems with layer position. Dreamweaver preview is
    correct, as is
    display in Internet Explorer.PC.
    Firefox on PC, and all Mac browsers do not correctly place
    top value (left
    value is correct)
    Any ideas? All layer attributes are in css. Emp01 below is
    correctly placed.
    Emp07 is not. All layers given unique Z-index
    #Emp01 {
    position:absolute;
    left:183px;
    top:275px;
    width:180px;
    height:42px;
    z-index:1;
    visibility: hidden;
    #Emp07 {
    position:absolute;
    left:600px;
    top:265px;
    width:175px;
    height:61px;
    z-index:7;
    visibility: hidden;

    > This doesn't seem to make sense to me. Does it to you?
    Yes, of course.
    You have not controlled the margin-top on the <p> tag,
    and IE will not
    collapse that margin - thus leading you to conclude that it's
    positioned
    correctly. When you use a modern browser, that correctly
    collapses that top
    margin, you see the layer as being placed higher than you
    want. The
    solution is to use CSS to set that <p> tag's top margin
    to zero. Then you
    will be able to position the layer reliably....

  • ICal times in left column are off five hours from calendar

    I've just noticed that the times on the left side off my calendar are off. It says 7:00 but it's actually midnight (which is correct) and it proceeds ahead like that. For instance, where it says 2:00 it is actuallu 7:00 AM. I can tell this as when i schedule an event in the "block" it gives me the correct time. Also sometimes the week highlighted on the month view on the bottom left, highlights the right week but a month earlier. It's like it has a mind of it's own. Any suggestions?

  • Colors are off

    I've used previous Photoshop versions and recently upgraded to Photoshop CS5 (I've used the same Dell monitor with previous versions and it looked just fine before). For some reason the colors I use in Photoshop CS5's work-space are off.
    For example, the menu and interface is the perfect grey color, yet when I select a grey on my workspace, it shows as a tan color (see attached image). The only way to make it show the true colors (its not just the greys, all colors are off), is if I select in View>Proof Setup>Monitor RBG, then select View>Proof Colors. Even in CMYK, the colors are off.
    My Color Settings Working Spaces are set to:
    RGB: sRGB IEC61966-2.1 (I've tried changing this to "Monitor RGB" and "Adobe RGB (1998)" and it doesn't help my issue)
    CMYK: U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2
    Gray: Dot Gain 20%
    Spot: Dot Gain 20%
    Even though it looks off, when I Save for Web, the greys and the rest of the colors are saved normally. So it's just in my workspace, which makes it hard to figure out what true color I'm using as I'm designing.
    I don't understand why this is happening and how to fix it. I shouldn't have to turn on Proof Colors - Monitor RGB every single time I open Photoshop. And of course, I can't even view it with Monitor RGB Proof Colors on when I'm working in CMYK. Any suggestions?

    I haven't had specifically the problem you are seeing, but it's possible the factory monitor profile is just wrong or corrupted.
    Removing that Dell profile from within the Devices tab is required to get your system to use the system default sRGB profile, and if the sRGB profile doesn't give you accurate color (I believe the 2208 is a wide gamut monitor, so it probably won't) you may need to use a calibration device if you want really accurate color.
    Some rules of thumb to consider:
    If you want your non-color-managed output of sRGB files (e.g., most stuff shown by Internet Explorer) to exactly match what you see in Photoshop, just use the Windows default sRGB profile for the monitor profile (i.e., remove the 2208 profile).
    If you want colorimetrically accurate color from your color-managed applications (e.g., Photoshop), then you'll want to remove the profile and specifically calibrate your monitor using a device made for the task.  In this case, Photoshop and other color-managed apps will use the document and monitor profiles and accurately display your images, but non-color-managed apps will not, and will thus look different (in your case, much more saturated).
    You might want to make a copy of that file (C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color\SP2208WFP_DVI.ICM) in a safe place before making any changes; I'm not sure whether removing it from the dialog might actually delete it.

  • Model layer customization are not reflecting on sandbox.

    Hi
    we are doing some changes to model layer in the seeded code, for the fusion apps.
    But our changes are not reflecting on fusion apps instance, even those are small validation changes, and these changes are going fine on sandbox (xml file),
    But when we are running the application these changes are not reflecting, do need to restart the server to get the model layer changes reflected.
    Is there any way to debug our changes in the fusion apps instance.
    Thanks

    But when we are running the application these changes are not reflecting, do need to restart the server to get the model layer changes reflected.
    Is there any way to debug our changes in the fusion apps instance."
    I am sure if you mean that it works after you restart the sever or you are asking if it will work on doing system restart.
    In any case, model layer changes are always done at GLOBAL layer and these changes only reflect after restarting the application. So, server bounce is not needed but application restart is required for changes to be picked up.
    Hope this helps

  • Elements in my IDML file are off centre

    Hello, I have a designer who sent me back an IDML file (he's on CS6, i'm on CS5). On my end about 1/3 of the pages in a 100 page document are off centre by the exact same amount.
    What's bizarre is that some of the off-centre elements are based off of a Master Page, and the Master Page is perfectly fine. Some pages that use master page elements are fine, while other pages are off centre.
    Any idea why this is happening?
    Right now i'm going through the pages one-by-one and re-arranging the page elements...

    The fact is that IDML is not a tool for collaborative workflows and this
    is just the kind of thing that can happen and why everyone should be on
    the same version.
