Illustrator PDF watermark
Hello,
I've a PDF file with watermark under it's content, this water mark is visible when I open the file with adobe reader,but when I opened this file in Illustrator, The watermark isn't displayed and isn't printed, any one know why??
The file is attached
Not sure how it was created...
The images behind the pink are actually embedded raster images. I don't know why they aren't present when just opening the PDF in AI. They are present if you burn the PDF (Export to EPS, then open the EPS in AI)
Never seen that type of construction. I'd be interested to know how it was pulled off or if it is just a glitch in the file.

PDF Watermark - logo image is not displayed in ibr converted pdf
Hi
I have enabled pdf watermark administration and configured image watermark with rule, if the content type is document then the image watermark is to be applied but it is not displayed to the converted word document to pdf by IBR.
If i change image watermark layer to "over", then image watermark is displayed, but word are displayed under the logo image watermark, so it is difficult to study the document.
If the native file is pdf, then its image watermark is working fine.
Thanks
DeepakHi ,
I think this could be caused by the following :
Check the factor set for Transparency and if it is completely opaque (Transparency =0%) then the converted PDF's will not show watermarks which has Layer set to UNDER.
To get the watermarks displayed PPT's will need to be set to Transparency = 100% .
The intention of the UNDER watermarking layer is that it should appear"behind" whatever is in the content layer.If the content layer completely covers the page and is opaque, then nothing behind it will be visible,including watermarks.The only reasonable solution is to check the above mentioned value before submitting the PPT's for conversion so that users are aware of this behavior for PPT's
The above description if for PPT's where in this was found to be caused by the transparency factor of native PPT . If it is a word document then check for the same setting and set to 100% , then test .
Hope this helps .

Dear All,
I have the following scenario:
1. I need to checkin a document to UCM
2. Post the checkin, i need to generate an image dynamically using my custom java code & checkin that image also to UCM as a new revision of content id say img_001.
3. Once the image has been checked in, i need to call the PDF watermark service to apply the static watermark to the main document using img_001.
The approach i m planning for this is, after main doc checkin to UCM, call the custom java program to generate the img & checkin the img as a new revision of img_001 to UCM from the same program. Within the same custom java code, call the pdf watermark service to apply the static watermark to the main document with the recently checked in version of img_001.
In order to implement this, i need to know how to call the pdf watermark service from custom java code e.g. name of the service, parameters to be passed etc.
Can anyone please help me with this issue? Also, if you have any alternative approaches to accomplish this scenario, please share your thoughts.
Thanks in advance.Hi!
I had a similar problem. Instead of using PDF Watermark, I let the java program do all the logic. iText is already available in the standard installation, and it wasn't too hard to implement.

Adding PDF watermark in Automator doesn't work in Lion?
Hi folks,
I am trying to create a function for adding watermarks to my invoices. I read different tutorials, but whatever I make, when it comes to adding the watermark background (Automator -> Workflow -> PDFs -> Watermark PDF document (not quite sure about the english name)) it doesn't add anything. I tried .jpg, .psd, .png, different image files and sizes. However I never get any file into my list.
Any hints?
Thanks!
MikeHere's a workaround:
1. Create a workflow, including the "Watermark PDF Documents" action, save it as a workflow.
2. Show the contents of the saved workflow, find the file "document.wflow" inside the "Contents" folder, open it with a word processor, e.g TextEdit or BBEdit or Microsoft Word
3. Find the parameter block of the "Watermark PDF Documents" action, it should look like below:
<key>ActionParameters</key>
<dict>
<key>angle</key>
<real>57.379999999999995</real>
<key>onePDF</key>
<false/>
<key>opacity</key>
<real>0.72282608695652173</real>
<key>overUnder</key>
<integer>1</integer>
<key>scale</key>
<real>1.4574821967095799</real>
<key>xOffset</key>
<real>34.5</real>
<key>yOffset</key>
<real>23.469999999999999</real>
</dict>
4. Add a key-value pair for "fileNames" into the parameter dictionary, so that it looks like this:
<key>ActionParameters</key>
<dict>
<key>angle</key>
<real>57.379999999999995</real>
<key>fileNames</key>
<array>
<string>/Volumes/Storage/Media/Pictures/SleepingCat.gif</string>
</array>
<key>onePDF</key>
<false/>
<key>opacity</key>
<real>0.72282608695652173</real>
<key>overUnder</key>
<integer>1</integer>
<key>scale</key>
<real>1.4574821967095799</real>
<key>xOffset</key>
<real>34.5</real>
<key>yOffset</key>

IPM Electronic Signature/PDF Watermarking.
All,
I'm attempting to satisfy a requirement for Electronic Signature or PDF Watermarking for IPM.
I know these utilities are intended for use in UCM, however, I guess my real question is what options
are available to those folks who use IPM?
BTW, I did install and configure the UCM PDF Watermarking component, but cannot get any results to show up in either the
advanced or basic IPM Viewer.
Am I stuck using something like ITEXT on the LINUX side prior to ingestion of the PDF's into IPM?
I'm up for that - if it's really the only possibility. However, I was hoping to satisfy the requirement without a
customization like this.
Thanks in advance for feedback . . .
regards,
-PhillipHi ,
Is the watermarking configured and working for contents that are checked in from UCM ?
Thanks

Illustrator PDFs print correctly from PC, but print too dark from Macs
Photoshop and Illustrator PDF files (CS5 & 6) print correctly from my work PC, but not either of my Macs. See below:
At work, I have a Dell PC and an iMac, at home I have a MacBook Pro.
At work there is a big office color Ricoh printer for the Dell and iMac, at home I have a Epson 3-in-one laserjet for the MacBook Pro.
Both the work and home Macs will print Illustrator/Photoshop PDFs very dark/undersaturated/off color on their relative printers, but the work PC prints them correctly.
At work, If you hold up a print of a PDF file printed from the Dell PC, and one printed from the iMac, they are completely different looking - the Dell print matches the Dell and iMac screens, but the iMac print is very dark and dull.
At work, when I open a Illustrator or Photoshop PDF on the work PC and send it to the Richo printer, it comes out perfectly matching the screen, but, if I open it on the iMac and send it to the Richo printer, it prints too dark/off color.
These are the *exact* same PDF files I am opening on both the PC and the iMac - our files are saved on a server so I'm accessing the same documents on both machines.
Also, I create the files on the iMac and save them to the server on the iMac, but if I open them on the iMac it prints too dark, and if I open them on the PC, it prints correctly.
At home on the MacBook Pro, the prints are also much darker than the screen (despite color calibration with a ColorMunki as well as following all Epson's color calibration steps) and I see a similar color problem as printing to the work printer from the work iMac.
Someone please tell me this is just a printer profile thing and I can go in somewhere on my Macs and switch something so they print the same as the PC does!
Thank you in advance for explaining why my Macs are making me pull out my hair!the iMac it prints too dark
your print space is off on the Mac
or you are applying the wrong source profile or both
on the MacBook Pro, the prints are also much darker than the screen (despite color calibration
EDIT: sorry i misread that as your monitor was also dark, if the mac displays the problem doc proper, you are targeting a bad print space, that's where i would look...
you app is apply the wrong source profile (or your monitor profile is off)
basing the source>print space conversion on the wrong source profile could account for your printing woes
be sure you are embedding an ICC profile in your doc, are opening it in a color-managed app, and it should display properly
be sure your workflow uses the embedded profile and your printer is setup to convert to the proper printer profile

I need help convincing my workflow administrator on Illustrator PDF presets.
I need help convincing my workflow administrator on Illustrator PDF presets.
I work at a company which prints folding cartons, pressure sensitive labels, and film packaging. Esko Automation Engine 12 is our primary workflow. We use PDF files saved directly out of Illustrator as the primary file format. At times, the size of an art file can get fairly bloated from scaled images, effects, transparency, etc. The workflow and Ilustrator have a hard time dealing with the file size. It has been suggested to use the "export" function under the File Menu and save the art file as a "normalized PDF". I honestly believe Distiller isn't even remotely involved when you do this. I tried to make the case to use the settings in the dialog box which appears when you save a PDF out of Illustrator. I know for a fact that this dialog box isn't any different from what you see in Distiller. From my years of experience with Kodak Prinergy, I know things like bicubic downsampling, etc. will not hurt the file. The workflow administrator thinks otherwise. Can anybody point me in the direction of Illustrator PDF presets that would convince him otherwise?Brian,
What is somewhat confusing in your post is your mentioning a capability to export PDF from the File Menu as a normalized PDF file. There is no such option in Adobe Illustrator, at least as it comes directly from Adobe. You may use the File=>Save As dialog to save the file as a PDF file, but PDF is not an option under File=>Export. Furthermore, in terms of the .joboptions provided by Adobe, there is no Normalized PDF joboptions settings.
You mention Esko. Is it possible that you have one of Esko's products installed that provides proprietary plug-ins to Adobe Illustrator? If so, that may be the source of this Normalized PDF option. Maybe some other participant in the is forum knows more about that, but at Adobe, we don't (for better or worse).
You mention problems with file bloat due to “scaled images, effects, transparency, etc.” Are you referring to the Illustrator .AI files or to PDF files created from same? If the issue is the .AI file size, the only thing you can do to fix that is to uncheck the save as compatible PDF file option when saving .AI. In terms of PDF files from Adobe Illustrator:
(1) Scaled images should not add anything to a PDF file size unless you take such images and attempt to upres them in Photoshop prior to creating PDF. There really is no benefit to be achieved by such upresing of the images; any competent RIP can do that itself just as well as Photoshop.
(2) Transparency only adds to the PDF file size if you create PDF with transparency already flattened, or what I would better describe as ruined. Flattening transparency often causes large raster bitmaps and/or very complex groups of vector objects to be created to simulate transparency in an opaque imaging model (such as is supported by PostScript).
You obviously need to produce PDF that can be accommodated by the rest of your workflow. Since we don't know what that is and whether it conforms to current best industry practices, we cannot make an absolute recommendation for you.
However, generally speaking, the most reliable PDF print publishing workflow would generally require that you create PDF/X-4 using the PDF/X-4 PDF preset from Adobe Illustrator (or for that matter, from InDesign as well). PDF/X-4 supports full ICC color management (including spot colors), the entire PDF imaging model, and live transparency.

Editable Illustrator PDF to Acrobat
Hello! I am designing a presentation in Illustrator and the presenter would like to be able to edit the text in perpetuity. If she buys Acrobat XI Standard will that allow her to modify my Illustrator PDFs? Does she need XI Pro? Thank you!
If you're making someone an AI document, they need to buy Illustrator. PDF is an end-destination format, it was never designed to be editable.
Although the tools in Acrobat XI make attempts to edit sentences without breaking text flow, in reality they are very limited as they're guessing about what the original document structure was. It's not fully preserved in the PDF. Paragraphs are often unconnected to one another, even characters within the same phrase can be split apart or linked to characters from a totally different part of the page. Changing a font or style will usually mess up the formatting, as would trying to insert more text than the original space allowed for. -
Here's the scenario:
Customer sends me an illustrator file with an embedded image. I need to check the resolution of the image to see see if it is high resolution enough for print. I delete all art but the image in illustrator and then save that file as a pdf with the illustrator default.
I drag that pdf file into photoshop where I get the "Import PDF" dialog box. I know if I select the "Pages" button, then the resolution and color that appears in the dialog box are not the true specifications for the image. I have to select the "Images" button and open the file from there HOWEVER sometimes this option is not available and the "open" button is grayed out. I have yet to figure out why this happens on some of the pdf files I've saved from Illustrator.
This is the only way I have found to check resolutions on embedded files where I do not have the actual linked graphic. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for any help!Just check the resolution in Illustrator instead of exporting a PDF to check in Photoshop.
If the image only is selected then the resolution is displayed in Control bar.
It may be in a nest of groups so either double-click repeatedly on the image until you've drilled down to it or select it in the Layers panel where the disclosure triangles will give access to it. -
Missing text in my PDF watermark. How do I fix?
I've created a PDF to be used as a watermark The PDF that I will use as a watermark looks fine. All the text is there. When I apply this PDF as a watermark, some of the text dissappears. I'm not sure what is going on.

PDF WATERMARK NOT VISIBLE IN READER
HI Gurus,
I have created a simple script which reads a value from a form field and creates a watermark on pdf document.
I can view the watermark in Acrobat Pro 9 but unable to see the watermark when viewing through acroabt reader 9. Below is the script I am using. I have not set bOnScreen or bOnPrint and have left as default which I believe is true.
var cMyText = this.getField("WATERMARKADDRESS").value;
this.addWatermarkFromText({
cText: cMyText,
nTextAlign: app.constants.align.center,
nRotation: 45
Any help provided would be greatly appreciated.
Thank LeeWhat does it say in the JavaScript console? Have you checked the documentation for addWaterMarkFromText (especially the quick bar) to see if it is supposed to work in Reader?

Placed Illustrator PDF has extra white space
Illustrator artwork saved as PDF, and placed on an InDesign page comes in with extra white space of around 1 1/3 mm on all
sides. I can't figure out what this unwanted white space is or how to avoid it. Can someone please tell me how to avoid the extra white space.in which case - i can only apologise for the incorrect advice.
I've never had any problems with eps files - providing that the artwork is tidy.
And I've found loads of problems printing a placed pdf through a digital rip.
I'll leave it down to trial and error... and wish the best of luck.
