  • InDesign/ Illustrator shuts down when trying to print

    I have an issue with printing on CS4. Whenever I try and print in InDesign or Illustrator, the computer has the multi-coloured "ball of death" and then shuts down. It happens everytime, but no in Photoshop. I have looked at previous threads, and it has said to look at PPD preferences but I cannot find these. I have also repaired permissions.
    I would really value any help!
    I have read that I should do this:
    The following workaround can be applied to get these older versions of Illustrator and InDesign to print on this newer operating system. Remove the following files and back them up:
    [Hard Drive]/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/en.lproj
    [Hard Drive]/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Zh_CN.lproj
    [Hard Drive]/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Ja.lproj
    [Hard Drive]/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/ko.lproj
    [Hard Drive]/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Zh_TW.lproj
    However, I cannot find these files in Printer section!

    Hello,
    Your printer does not support windows 7.
    Here are the specs of it: http://reviews.cnet.com/laser-printers/samsung-ml-2010/4507-3159_7-31408217.html
    Windows 98/2000/ME - Pentium II - RAM 64 MB - HD 300 MB,
    Windows XP - Pentium III - RAM 128 MB - HD 1 GB
    Anyway, I was able to find a driver for your printer, please try to download it from this link and check if that works.
    http://drivers.softpedia.com/dyn-postdownload.php?p=135693&t=0&i=1
    Please, remove any previous driver or anything you might have installed on your PC.
    Let me know if this is resolved and the outcome.
    Thanks,
    I work for HP! Please remember to provide and if this helped click ON

  • Illustrator shuts down when moving an object

    When I try to move an object with my mouse, the entire Illustrator program shuts down. I have Illustrator CS6. I can only move things with the arrow keys on my keyboard. How can I fix this problem so I can move things without Illustrator shuting down?

    mrm,
    If restarting fails to solve the issue, you may proceed down the following general list.
    You may try the following (you may have tried/done some of them already) and see whether it helps (the following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file; 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences):
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

  • Illustrator shuts down when I click drag on an object.

    It doesn't matter if I open the file in another version... It doesn't matter if I copy out the content and paste into a new file... Illustrator continues to shut down when I click drag on an object. Is this a keyboard issue? Or a program issue? or a combination?
    I have plenty of memory on my computer.

    After being on Adobe Chat support all morning, we uninstalled and reinstalled the program (outside of the cloud -as re-installing from the cloud produced the same error in the software).
    When having this issue, it did not matter what object was selected and moved. It did not matter what file I was in. It did not matter if I created a new file.

  • Illustrator Shuts Down

    I am using Illustrator CS3 version 13.0.0 on a windows unit using xp service pack 3.
    I frequently have illustrator show a perform illegal error message and shut down. I noticed that this version does not have the capacity like Indesign CS3 does to recover the work. Or does it? Can someone possibly provide some information on maybe where I could recover work that has been lost?
    Thanks

    No... you can't recover lost work.
    Suggest you back up often. But most important, try and find out why Illustrator keeps crashing.
    How much RAM? Is everything configured properly? Are your Scratch disks pointing to sufficient space? What other programs are running... (could it be your Anti Virus?)? etc., etc.

  • Anytime I try to click and drag a placed image, Illustrator shuts down. What the hell is going on?

    This has happened to me about four or five times now since I've been using Adobe Illustrator. I place a file, I try to click and drag, Illustrator "stops working" for a brief moment, and thein I get the "Illustrator has quit unexpectedly" dialog box. I've tried moving the preferences folder, renaming it, delieting it, restarting, uninstalling, and updating. So far the only thing that has ever worked is for me to move to a different laptop or create a new profile on my mac book. Somebody, anybody, I seriously need some help.

    SP,
    Just to make sure: are all the faces of both the Verdana and Tahoma fonts installed and enabled?

  • Illustrator CS shuts down when I open a file

    I've had Illustrator (CS 11.0.0) on my desktop machine for a while but not used it much. I am now intending to switch all my work from Creature House Expression3 to Illustrator (can't face upgrading to the MS product) and loaded Illustrator on my laptop so I can work away from home.
    It loaded OK but if I try to open an existing Illustrator file or start a new project the application shuts down immediately. There's no fuss, and no messages, it just shuts down.
    I just uninstalled and reinstalled Illustrator but the problem is still there. It runs OK on my desktop PC.
    My laptop is a new high spec Dell XPS with not much on it so there's no question of lack of room or power. It's running windows XP.
    Advice to get me working on the laptop would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Jacob
    Thanks for persevering. I found it and I've experimented with creating a subfolder and moving the folder there, and moving the whole thing to the desktop. Still the same problem, Illustrator shuts down if I attempt to open a file. I tried rebooting too.
    Eventually I removed Illustrator (using a wizard) then searched for illustrator files and deleted a few more things I found lying around. I removed the Illustrator tutorial stuff I had on there too. there was one font file that I couldn't delete though - it said I didn'thave authorisation - strange. Then I reinstalled Illustrator and tried again (and skipped when it said it had problems with this file as it was in use) - same problem.
    There is a difference between the contents of the settings file on my laptop and on my desktop - I don't know if this is a useful diagnostic or not. On the laptop I have one folder: Plugins (with nothing in it) and two files: AI Color Settings, and AIMenuFaceCache.
    On the desktop (where Illustrator works) I have the folder Plugins (again empty) and files: AI Color Settings, AIAppResources, AIMenuFaceCache, AIprefs, PDF Presets, Plug-in Cache.ARTZ, Print Presets, Transparencey Flattener Presets.
    I just searched for aiprefs on the laptop (on the C drive using hidden files - it isn't there).
    I'm stuck again now :-) Does this mean anything to you?

  • Illustrator CS3 shuts down every time I try to save my file

    Hello,
    My Illustrator starting having trouble with saving files about a month ago, but then, if I would wait long enough, eventually it would save the file and I could move on.  Now, my Illustrator shuts down, or just tells me there is not enough memory to save the file - and it is not a huge file.  even when trying to print from Illustrator now, I have big problems.
    I've already had the hard drive on my computer checked and it's in perfect shape.  I don't have any other issues in any other program on this computer.  Just Illustrator.  I uninstalled and reinstalled CS3 today, but made no difference.
    Any help or suggestions?

    D,
    If it has anything to do with preferences, uninstalling and reinstalling will make no difference. If that is the case, you may try to  Move the folder.
    But before doing that, it may be worth trying to consider whether the file may be corrupt.
    Does it happen to other files?
    If not, you may move the contents into a new document (tick Paste Remembers Layers in the Layers panel (and untick it when done).
    You may try to move everything (from all layers), and if the new document is corrupt, you may start anew and move bits and pieces.

  • Illustrator cs5 portable shuts down after I save a file

    I have illustrator cs5 that worked just fine on my old pc. I am using it now on my new pc (win 7, 64 bit, 8GB Ram, i5 3.40GHz) but every time I try to save a file no matter how small, illustrator shuts down completely. Someone help please.

    Does that happen with that file only or with any other files as well?
    Did you try to create a new file and save it?
    What error message do you get? Please attach an error screenshot.
    Which operating system do you use?
    Since when are you facing this issue? Did it ever work before?
    What changes did you make after which you are facing this issue?

  • Illustrator suddenly shutting down.

    I am running  Illustrator CS3 for the Windows OS; XP Professional. I have a re-curring issue with Illustrator shuts down, but only if I have Indesign and Photoshop running at the same times. When the shutdown occurs, there is no warning, nor is there an error notification. It simply  disappears from the screen and taskbar. There is also no log generated to describe or point too any conflict.Below I lay out the problem as I have tracked it for the last few months.
    1) All three programs need to be launched for 20+ minutes for the shutdown to occur
    2) Photoshop alone = no issue
    3) Illustrator alone = no issue
    4) InDesign alone = no issue
    5) Photoshop + InDesign = no issue
    6) Indesign = Illustrator = no issue
    7) Photoshop + InDesign + Illustrator = Illustrator suddenly disappears (after 20 min.)
    Our inhouse IT staff have beat there heads against the wall to no avail to narrow the cause of this.
    Any suggestions or observations from this knowledgable forum?
    I also use a WACOM Intuos 2 tablet - just as a note
    Thanks!

    My first guess would be a Font or Fonts corruption and or a font cache corruption then I would suspect a third party plug in or a third party software that is used by one of the 3 applications or used during this scenario. Something like an e-mail client perhaps entourage.
    If you do find a corruption or conflict you may still have to move the settings folder as this corruption or conflict might corrupt the settings folder or its contents.
    It is ok in many cases to reset the preferences with the keyboard commands but often time other content of the setting folder can be corrupted and the folder itself can be corrupt even though it is nothing but a folder.
    Those are my thoughts you can sort of find out if it is possibly a conflict or a corruption of the nature I describe by creating a new user account, logging into that new user and neither add fonts or launch any other applications if you have plug ins you first have to remove them from the applications to make this work. If there are start up items you have to disable them as well.
    Of course from what you describe running these three programs at the same time probably requires about 12-16 GB of memory in order to keep everything running smooth. It is a much more modern world and 4GB would not be helpful for your work flow.

  • Adobe Creative Suite Design CS6 - PhotoShop, InDesign and Illustrator immediately shuts down after startup

    I'm troubleshooting for a customer who have Adobe Creative Suite Design CS6.
    His programs suddenly wont start, they launches and starts to read plug-ins and open up a workspace, but then without warning/error it shuts down. no log, error message or anything...
    It's the same for PhotoShop, InDesign and Illustrator both in 32 bit and 64.
    He is running the suit on a Hp EliteBook 8560p with Windows 7 Pro x64 sp1.
    He also have had a Wacom Bamboo CTE 650 penpad installed before.
    This is what I've done so far:
    * Uninstall the whole suit and reinstalled it again (Done this 3-4 times, manually deleted regestry-files, used CClean and other cleaning tools)
    * Deleted the wacom-drivers with controlpanel tool, Windows driver Clean tool, CClean and manually deleted registry-keys and files.
    * Uninstall Anti-Virus software and replaced it with another, inactivated AV and Windows Firewall.
    * Deleted register-files for the suits and "reregister" them again.
    * Full patch both for windows and adobe softwares.
    * Reboot between each step
    Any suggestions?
    I have to add that adobe support for this $2000 software really sucks...
    Thanks!
    // Rikard

    Problem solved!
    I went through all the folders associated with adobe cs6 and renamed them (one by one) so they would be recreated.
    I did this before but seems like I missed this specific one.
    Anyway, when I renamed the folder "SLCache" in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\ and then ran the applications one by one as administrator I was prompted to enter a serial-key again and log in to my Adobe-ID.

  • Problems shutting down illustrator cs3

    greetings -
    just curious if anyone else has had issues w/ illustrator not shutting down (i.e., file/exit). i have yet to attempt an uninstall/reinstall since it took a long time to install cs3 on my machine the first time (had to restart it once).
    about 9 out of 10 times when exiting illustrator, it will freeze up, and i have to do a "ctl+alt+delete"" to terminate the process.
    any thoughts are appreciated.

    I've been having this daily problem of this 'hanging-on-quitting' problem, too, until I saw this first post (recently, always searching for solution thru other forums as well) and thought that what might be the problem..., often times I would just quit by clicking the Close button, too. For a while, it did work (if I'm using Illy for short period of time) it doesn't hang - but if I would keep it up & work with it for a long period of time, then on quit (even with the File>Exit method) it'll go blank & 'hang' (again). I'm "wild-guessing", but could it be something to do with application's cache/memory issue? I mean, its seems like the more I use it, the more it keeps "building-up inside" so to speak. Also I agree whole-heartedly with JET's post #29 (under "New to Illustrator - all I want to do is draw a triangle") concering the "inelegance" of Illustrator, etc. He really said it well. It seems that each Illy's "improvement" is two-steps-backward at the same time. Very frustrating! I have Windows XP SP2 on two different machines. I hope this post would help to bring out any other thoughts or ideas on this annoying issue.
