Illustrator smartobject moves position in photoshop

Hi everyone,
I got an annoying problem with regards to the workflow with Illustrator smartobjects in Photoshop. I import them as vector smartobjects in photoshop. After a doubleclick, Illustrator opens and I can access the original file in order to make changes (e.g. new font, size, color, etc...). However, even without changing anything size related in Illustrator (e.g. convert fonts into paths or hide a layer), after saving the smartobject within illustrator, it gets updated in photoshop and suddenly it jumps to a complete new position. This is very frustrating, as every time I have to move it back to its original position.
Am I doing something wrong? Why does my updated smartobject lose its position within photoshop? Is there any way to prevent this or lock this layer?

it's quite a remarkable position change - I would guess approx. 10%. You can try it yourself (if you like and find the time)
1) create some text in AI
2) Import AI file as Smartobjekt (SO) into photoshop
3) doubleclick on SO in photoshop (AI opens)
4) convert text within AI into paths (obviously no operation which changes size or position of the text)
5) save and as soon as PS updates the SO the position jumps
basically I am having the same problem as this poor guy over here:
switching off layer in smart object causes it to move in photoshop
there's a solution outlined (bounding box) - but this does not do the trick for me. Could you maybe help me out a little bit further? How do I have to draw the bounding in illustrator?

okay I figured out how I can get it to print correctly. I discovered the problem is when I paint the photoshop file in a spot color (pantone, gcmi), the file prints in negative or inverse of the image, but if i paint it in cmyk equivalent of the spot color i want then it prints fine.

thanks for the fast response. cs5 remembered the window position. I like having the window in the middle as I have a 27" monitor. I just upgraded to cs6 yesterday and I'm sure it was remembering the window document position. I think. If i find out how to fix this, I'll post it here.
And while I'm on the subject of cs6, why the f*** did adobe combine the stroke and swatches pallettes? Now I forever have to click stroke and swatch tabs all day. And I love the army and navy file icons of photoshop and illustrator. I won't comment on Acrobat X. ; (

Which OS are you using?
Sometimes this is caused when Mac preferences become corrupt and prevent Illustrator from reading them properly or scratch disk for Illustrator is not set properly. Mac preferences become corrupt when home space is filled to capacity or computer shuts down improperly. Illustrator preferences must be set before using the product for the first time or when preferences become corrupt.
Solution 1
Start Illustrator.
Click on "Illustrator > Preferences > Plug-ins & Scratch Disks".
From the options available for the "Primary Scratch Disk", choose "LocalScratch", and click "Ok".
Quit Illustrator and start it up again.
Solution 2
Quit Illustrator. Move the following folders from your home space to the trash:
Library/Application Support/Adobe
Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS6 Library Settings
Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS6 Settings
Library/Preferences/com.adobe.illustrator.plist
The problem should disappear upon quitting and starting Illustrator after one of these solutions is applied.

No Move Command in Photoshop?

Hello,
I am trying to move a selection a certain distance (over and over again), but it seems you can't just access a move dialogue in PS (like in Illus. or InDesign) or add to a number in the Transform palette.
Pls someone tell me I am wrong...
Or that there is a free script somewhere that does exatly that

Thanks for getting back to me. I don¹t think I described my problem as well
as I could have. I want to slice up a large psd map into book pages. To do
that I need to keep moving the selection across (or down) by the same amount
(figuring for bleed and overlap). Then I crop the image. Save the page;
restore the full size; then move the selection the same amount again. In
Illustrator I could just enter a ³+5 in² and it would move it that much no
matter where it is, but in PS I only seem able to move the selection to a
point along the ruler.
Am I missing something?

If you use Free Transform you can enter x and/or y values to move something
a specified amount. Then if you have to move it again the same distance you
can use Repeat Transform.
So if you wanted to simulate step and repeat - make a layer - duplicate it -
move that layer the specified amount by using Free Transform - duplicate
that layer - Repeat transform.
Not as easy but pretty quick actually.

I downloaded the file, and:
It is not a Photoshop PDF.
I get the same result attempting to open in Illustrator; mangled font substitution. That's because I don't have one or more of the exact fonts used in the document installed on my computer, and I suspect the same is true of yours.
The fact that it opens without issue in Reader and Photoshop is essentally meaningless, (or at least it's not an inidication that it also should open without issue in Illustrator, which is what your original post seems to imply). Reader displays the correct fonts because subsets of them are embedded in the PDF for use by Reader. Photohop just rasterises the whole page, so there is no font data needed.
If you had the fonts, you wouldn't get the substitution in Illustrator. It works that way for any PDF.

Vector art from Illustrator showing up pixelated in Photoshop

I am trying to copy art in Illustrator and paste it into Photoshop but no matter what I do it's showing up pixelated or low resolution.
I have the Document Raster Effects setting in Illustrator set to 300 ppi.
When I copy the art and go to Photoshop and start a new document the clipboard preset says 72 ppi instead of 300.
I changed it to 300 but my art was still coming in low res.
Just found out that if I switch the units to inches from pixels in the new document window and then change the resolution to 300 it seems to work how I want it to.
Is there a setting that will copy the artwork in illustrator at 300 ppi so that when I start a new document in photoshop it will recognize the clipboard data as 300?

when i Add a anchor point, without converting it?
i like to be automatic just like in photoshop pentool.

1. Path with straight segment selected.
2. PenTool: click the segment to add the anchorPoint. If the straight segment has no handles extended, the added anchorPoint will be a corner point. The added anchorPoint is selected.
3. Click the Convert To Smooth button in the Control Panel. The anchorPoint is converted to Smooth and its handles are auto-extended.
OR
3. Press Alt to invoke the convert tool. ClickDrag the just-added AnchorPoint to drag out both its handles to the length desired. If SmartGuides is on, the handles will snap to the segment.
If a segment is straight and has no extended handles, clicking the segment with the Pen tool adds a corner AnchorPoint with no handles extended.
If a segment is straight and has either of its handles extended, clicking the segment with the Pen tool adds a Smooth AnchorPoint with both handles extended.

I did some homework on your camera, and it appears to be recording H.264 video compression, Linear PCM Stereo, with a .mov file extension.
Let us do a check list to make sure we agree on the details...
a. You cannot play back the video in the Elements Organizer 12
b. Can you import this video into Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace with the program's Add Media/Files and Folder/Project Assets? Does it then show up in Project Assets with an image in the thumbnail? Can you drag the video from Project Assets to the Timeline and have the Edit Mode monitor display that video and play it back there when you hit the monitor play button?
From what I have read of your camera, you could be recording 1920 x 1080 @ 60 progressive frames per second. Can you supply an information on that? What are you or the project setting as the project preset (See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, and Pixel Aspect Ratio.)

and can play it in the video editor, but it just shows the frames, not a real video play.

Might be easiest to use a service like Dropbox and sync everything to a folder in Dropbox so you'll have it on your Mac and on your iPhone.

Move tool crashes Photoshop CS4

I have quite a large problem with PS CS4,
Whenever I use the move tool, I get the message "Photoshop CS4 has encountered a problem and needs to close"
I'm running Vista 32-Bit.
It worked fine until about a week ago when I de-fragged my HDD, I've tried Uninstalling and then Re-Installing, no luck.
So I tried to delete my preferences, again nothing, so then I tried resetting the tool preferences, once again, no luck =/
I also tried Installing my old copy of CS3 and the same problem occurred.
I have the latest version of CS4, my drivers are up to date and so is my version of Windows.
Any Ideas? They'll be much appreciated.

Move tool in Photoshop CS5 on MacBook Pro

I am trying to move one photo into another in Photoshop CS5. Instead of being able to to drag one tab overtop of the other to put one photo in a layer over another, the tab I am trying to drag snaps back into place. This is really frustrating. I have restarted Photoshop, restarted my Mac, closed all my other apps and even deleted actions I have installed to no avail. I have searched for other suggested solutions. Someone suggested making sure 'show transform controls' was checked, but it did not make a difference in my case. I am using a brand new MacBook Pro.

You could just abandon tabbed view if you are non accustomed to it yet.

PDFs screwed up fonts in illustrator CC but fine in photoshop CC?

I have some PDFs generated from Win 7 x64, printed to PDF from Firefox. I need to edit some text. If i open in PS they render fine. but can't be edited. Text at least. if opened in ILL I get a warning the fonts will be substituted. But all i get is garbage. The "missing" fonts are not regular real fonts, they have nonsense numbers/letters.
Why can PS display a PDF fine but ILL can't? Any workarounds?
Having to mask out and lay type over in PS is a real pain.

The first sentence only stated where the files have been generated, but not which system you use.
Photoshop uses the embedded font when reading the file. Illustrator can do that as well - you need to place the PDF. But then you can't edit the text.
The native AI file is not identical to a PDF. The native AI file might contain a PDF. It's actually 2 files in one.
