Illustrator to Acrobat - Edit Text

So I had to make a marketing pdf with graphics and text.  They only way I knew how to was in illustrator CS5.  I exporting the individual pages then combined them all in Acrobat X.  Now a sales rep needs me to change the text on some of the pages for a particular client.  Is there an easy way I can make the full pdf document have editable text so my sales reps can change it as needed?
Can this be done by saving it as a word document?  When I tried it with 1 page the fonts changed on me.  I don't know Acrobat that well so I'm starting to learn it now.  Should I have made the template in Illustrator and did the text in Acrobat???
Thanks

No, this isn't really realising. Everyone working on a collaborative document needs to use the same software, and recreate the PDF after even the smallest change. Or, one person needs to co-ordinate the change. Acrobat doesn't turn PDFs into a simply editable thing, and it's best not to even start down the limited editing path that is there.
I'd like to recommend you consider InDesign, probably a far more suitable tool. Or even Word if the layout is simpler.
Above all KEEP THE ORIGINAL AND REMAKE THE PDF. On no account ever convert from PDF to something else to edit it.

  • Illustrator to indesign editable text?

Trying to copy text from illustrator to indesign and have it as editable text and basic shapes.
Window pops up saying performance will degrade but my macbook is SSD and has high specs so I am not worried about performance.
Indesign is much better for layouts than illustrator but the content is in illlustrator and the general layout is done, just specific tweaks are very difficult to achieve in illustrator.
I don't want to copy and paste the individual text as paragraph styles and so on would need to be setup. I want a straight copy and paste of the document and have everything editable. Not EPS.

Thanks for that. Mare but okay. Will copy and paste individual text.
    Cheers.

  • Need to edit text in pdf file created in Illustrator CS6

I need for someone else to be able to edit text in a pdf I created from Illustrator. They have full acrobat and should be able to edit it. I have tried it myself to test before sending it but it's not working. The original file was created in Illustrator CS6 and saved as a pdf (text has not been created outlines). I opened the file in acrobat and saved it out as an extended file to be able to edit the text but no luck. Need to be able to highlight existing text and change it. I have tried edit text tool but instead of a selection box around each line of text, it puts a selection box around all of the text. I can highlight the text and delete it but am unable to change it. Each individual text line needs to be editable. Is there something I need to do differently in Illustrator to get it to work correctly in Acrobat?
If it helps- the file is a calendar and they need to be able to change the dates and events that are already there.

This really isn't a suitable use of Acrobat. You should all be using the same editing tool (i.e. Illustrator).
Extending files reduces the amount of editing Acrobat can do, it does not increase it.
The tool to edit text from Illustrator would be Edit Document Text. There is no guarantee it will break up nicely into lines, it's trying to help by making paragraph text.
Conceivably you could use a form for this (fill in the blank for dates) but really, you should be using the same tool. Not necessarily Illustrator, more Excel or specialist Calendar software.

  • Editing Text in Acrobat Pro DC

I've followed all the instructions for editing text but when I go to select a text box the entire area is selected and the only choice is to move objects on the page (flip, left/right, etc).   I'm unable to click on the blue box to select that specific text box I need to adjust. There is no option for me to select Tools to follow the other help instructions  "If a bounding box doesn’t appear, choose Tools > Recognize Text > In This File."
I'm trying to work on a PDF that someone else created (who is on vacation, lucky) and of course the client needs it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

I don't have Acrobat DC here right now, so I can't give you step-by-step instructions for text recognition.
    But have a look at https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/how-to/edit-scanned-pdf-files.html?set=acrobat--fundamenta ls--edit-pdf

  • Is there a way to edit text in a smart object brought in from illustrator?

Is there a way to edit text in a smart object brought in from illustrator? Many thanks for the help!
And can anyone recommend learning resources for someone (me) who is an AI user for a decade who needs to work in PS for web mockups? Something other than a basic PS tutorial. Something geared towards that specific task. I'm not a PS beginner - but have mostly used it for photo correction until now.
Truly -- thanks! BTW - I'm in the CS 6 Suite and CC will not be available to me.

OMG! When I went back into the ai file and made sure that the text was on it's own layer (which I had not originally done) I could indeed edit the text in the file when exported to ps! This is a perfect solution for this situation. As far as the person I'm working with  - who fears ai more than anything - I can work in ai - which in many ways is so much less cumbersome than ps - and just export - clicking "preserve" layers & text editing! I hope this helps someone else! Sisham - many thanks for your help!

  • Cannot edit text or any command other than print in Adobe Acrobat 9.0.1 Pro. Receive error message

I just installed adobe acrobat 9.0.1 Pro and it opens up pdfs and prints fine but when I try to edit text or enter any other command I get an error and it gives the option of cancel to debug or to exit program.
    Error message:
The instruction at “0x2b806327” referenced memory at “0x00000348”. The memory could not be “read”.
Click on ok to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
At first it stated that it did not recognize the font but when I looked it up under file, properties, fonts. The font was helvetica (embedded subset) for all the fonts on the pdf file. I have also checked the sercurity tab as well and there is no security on the file.
When I choose cancel to debug it just terminates the program. When I choose ok it terminates the program.
    Please help.

Maybe your installation is currupt (scratched CD)
Reinstall on another maschine (and clean CD) to validate this case.
Update your Acrobat, maybe the corresponding files are replaced or the error is fixed.

  • Editing text on a Mac (Acrobat 9) causes text to show on Windows as ellipses

I'm a relative newbie to editing in Acrobat and forms but I'm usually a quick learner..
What I'm seeing is when I take an existing form with largely Helvetica Neue and edit the form on a Mac (my principle machine),
when I try to view the form on a Windows machine in Adobe reader, ellipses (look more like bullets) appear where my edited text is.
Funny thing is it is only the text I've edited within a single text box.
For example,  if I started with
The fox jumps over the hen
And I edit it to say
The fox jumps under my bed
What I see on Windows Acrobat reader is
    The fox jumps * ** ** ***  ***
(using *'s in this form as the bullets I'm seeing aren't easily available)
Anyone have any suggestions or ideas?
    ==Forrest

    There are several fonts listed...
    HelveticaNeue (Embedded Subset)
    HelveticaNeue (Embedded)
    HelveticaNeue
    HelveticaNeue (Embedded Subset)
    HelveticaNeue,Bold
    HelveticaNeue-Bold (Embedded Subset)
    HelveticaNeue-Bold (Embedded Subset)
    TimesNewRoman,Bold
What's weird is I literally edited a small amount of text within text boxes (I did not add any new text
boxes because I don't have the original source document).  The font properties for these text boxes
is set at the text box level and only the text I edited is unviewable on the windows machine.  The
text I did not disturb displays correctly.

  • Editing Text in Acrobat Pro 9.

I have been trying to edit text in Acrobat Pro 9 using the touchup tool. Nothing happens when I try to type text or replace existing text. I have read that the system font must match the text in the PDF in order to change the text. According to the properties the text is curier a standard Windows font. Any suggestion?

The PDF file maybe password protected. Click Secure and Remove Security.

  • Why won't Acrobat X Pro edit text?

Hello Acrobat experts.  I recently upgraded from whatever version of Acrobat Pro was in CS2, to Acrobat X Pro, which is part of CS6.  In the CS2 version of Acrobat, there was a very functional and effective "touch up text" tool which I used often to change words here or there in scanned documents.  Usually I would get a little message saying an identical font was not available, and that a substitution would be made, and a few moments later, I was able to edit and replace text to my heart's content.
When I first played with Acrobat X Pro, I couldn't find the  touch up text tool, so I went to the help site, and watched a nice video by Jon Bessant showing how to edit text.  Wow, it looked really simple.  So I attempted to make simple one word text changes in a scanned document, and I got some rather odd black blockish shapes over the lettering I had selected, which looked like what I saw in the video.  That only happened a couple of times. Usually, it appeared as though the program wasn't responding.
Sometimes, the funny blockish shapes started to show up in all manner of places on the page, not related to the single word I wanted to change.
So I found in the help documents that if tex is not recongized, that I need to go to Tools/Recognize Text/In this file.  I did that, and I got screen indications that my document was being scanned/processed, much as I had seen in my old CS2 Acrobat 2.  But when I went to try and edit text, still, nothing would happen.
The help instructions say that "If you can't edit the text, see Replace custom fonts with local fonts.  Those directions tell me to usse the TouchUp Text tool, but trying to execute those directions, nothing happens.
The text I am needing to edit, is simple Times New Roman font, scanned in with my same scanner that I had used for PDF editing with my old CS2 version of Acrobat Pro.
Help, what do I do???????????????  Thank you, Chuck

    Thanks Steve,
We are exporting PDF's as you indicate. I see the same thing. The boxes are all the size of the original InDesign document. The PDF art box should be predicated by the margins in InDesign. When we had CS3, this worked great. Now, it seems that there is a disconnect between the two Adobe products honoring the page box size. I have contacted the Adobe techs via chat, and they had no clue what I was referring to. I find it mystifying that Acrobat can not interpret the art box set in InDesign as margins.

  • Can't edit text in Acrobat X Pro

I can't seem to edit text properly in a recently created PDF document, using Acrobat X Pro. I went to the help file, and followed the instructions, but it isn't working right. All I need to do is replace the numeral "8" with a "7" in a paragraph. When I finally get to the point to edit the text, I can delete the "8" but when I type "7', it creates a large space instead.
The instructions said that maybe I have to do something regarding the adobe font, so I did that, was able to finally enter a "7" but it messed up the formatting of the paragraph. Surely it can't be this hard to revise one character?

    Steve,
There are definitely folks out there that have had the same problem in Lion.  Just to cover the obvious basics however ... Select the clip with the text in it (we are talking about Titles, right?). Then position your timeline vertical playback marker somewhere in that clip.  Go up to the preview window and make sure the little rectangle icon in the lower left corner is Blue (enabled) ... a little horizontal line will appear near the center of the text area with a little circle on the end.  Then go to a word in your text and double click it.  Does it select the word? Making sure again that the text clip is actually selected on the timeline, if it does not select the text then I probably cannot help you.  There are other discussions on this topic, but I really do not know for sure if there are resolutions.  FYI, I use FCP X with Lion and 16GB on a 2011 21" iMac and use text titles about 20 times a week and do not have a problem at all.  Still I know the problems others are seeing are real.  Best wishes,
    stephen

  • Edit text in Acrobat 9 issue

    HI,
I'm trying to edit text in a pdf. When I'm selecting the text with the touch up text tool it is huge! It selects a paragraph insted of one line. How can I change it to select one line of text?
    Thank you.

Normally you would just place the cursor in the text field and drag it for the text you want. Besides that, editing in Acrobat can be a real pain and is not recommended. If at all possible, you should go back to the original document and just create a new PDF.

  • How can i edit text on a pdf document on acrobat i professional

can anyone please help me, I've got acrobat 8 professional and i'm trying to edit text, can i do it and how can I do it?

You wrote: I have tried creating the background image as a pdf . . .
The whole thing is already a PDF.
What application are you using to try and make changes?
Are you now using InDesign to recreate the gift voucher?
Or are you opening the Photoshop PDF and trying to resize the live text layers?
There shouldn't be any issue with making 120 pt text. I just created a 250 pt text layer in PS as a test.
Have you enlarged the text box? If the text box isn't that big. making the text larger make cause it to overset and no longer be visible.
Grab the corner of the text box and drag it to enlarge it.
If things aren't working correctly, it would be faster to recreate the gift voucher in InDesign.
You mentioned having the background image, just add the text are you are ready to print.
After rereading your last post it is unclear who will be adding the text for the money amount.
Are you adding this yourself before printing, or are you hoping to give a PDF to the client where he can add/change the money amount?
Things like this need to be mentioned upfront.

  • Cannot Editing Text in Acrobat 8

I opened customers pdf in Acrobat 8 Mac. Went to properties and found font name and opened it. Was able to edit Optima fonts but was not able to edit any of the Avante Garde fonts. I changed the avante garde text to times and arial, and still got an error message: "All or part of the selection has no available system font. You cannot add or delete text using the currently selected font." Seems like it will only accept a few fonts and Acrobat's font list is different than my Suitcase Fusion list - even if I have them open if Suitcase.
How change I change fonts to MY fonts and EDIT them?? Thanks

Have a PDF Form created in Photoshop and converted to a PDF. Would like to edit text in the form but the TouchUp Text Tool won't work. It is as though it doesn't recognize the text. Any ideas as to how I can edit text in the form. I need to delete text, add new text and move existing text.

  • Acrobat renders edited text invisible

When making manual edits in a pdf (missing source files), we find that randomly the edited text will render invisible, and we don't have a method for bringing it back. If I highlight and copy to another program, the entire word will come appear. If I convert the text in a pdf to another font, and back again, it will appear correctly. However, it's difficult to run over multiple edits and make that kind of massive correction. Is this common, and is there a fix?

    Hi RisingMoonBT,
Please check out this post in the Acrobat Users forum. Is it possible that the current font color is white? Typewriter text disappears (Edit PDF)
