Illustrator upgrade from CS to CS6

My company is using Illustrator CS right now and doesn't want to make the jump to the Cloud yet.  they would rather get an update to the CS.  What is the best upgrade that isn't going to have issues and they will still be able to access their files.  Also, They are currently on XP professional and will soon make the leap to Windows 7.  Are these compatible?
Let me know what is the best option to the CS.  I'm not having any luck finding the CS3, CS4 is really expensive and I can get CS6 at a decent price.
Thank you!

i'm still not sure what you're asking when you state, "..i wondered if cs4, cs5 or cs6 even would work". would they work to do what? - view the CS files, be compatible.
are you asking if you can upgrade from cs to cs3 or better? if so, the answer is no. adobe is no longer offering any of its creative suite products prior to cs6 for sale, upgrade or otherwise.
but why are you changing from illustrator cs? what do you need in an upgrade?  I need the same product.  I just need a newer version of it in order to be compatible with our systems.  I want to be able to get it through a different vendor other than Adobe.  I understand that the updates wont be available through a stand alone software and we are okay with that.  Our current software is roughly 10 years old.  I just wanted to know if we purchased CS6 through Amazon or something like that, would we need another version in between or are we going to be okay.  Like back in the day, if you still had Adobe Standard 6, you couldn't "upgrade", you had to purchase a full version when you were getting updated to Adobe Standard 9.  I'm sorry if I'm not being clear.

  • Is it still possible to upgrade from CS4 to CS6 after the upgrade offer ended in 2012?

Is it still possible to upgrade from CS4 to CS6 after the upgrade offer ended in 2012?  I have not found the option to do so.

My family owns and operates a non-franchise entertainment facility (miniature golf, laser tag, arcade, pizza, parties...).  I have a design background, so among the many things I do here I'm also able to create marketing materials and an online presence in-house which would be too expensive for us to outsource.  Over a five year period, that's given us a software cost of right at $1 per day since our CS3 license ran around $1800.  Our customers are the public, and the package we try to push for walk-in traffic costs $50 for four people.  In exchange, they get unlimited mini golf, a game of laser tag, and a large pizza.  Not a bad deal.  If we were to earn $1800 from that group of four every five years, assuming they spent $50 each visit, that'd bring them here close to two times every three months.  For our type of business in a city of 118,000 tight-fisted Germans, that's about right.
What, are you trying make me feel GUILTY about being upset that Adobe's new strategy negatively affects my livelihood?
As far as Adobe's policy change announcement goes, I have no idea how it was announced.  I DO know I was not sent an email notification, though they have my email address and record that I'm a CS3 owner.  Presumably it was announced somewhere on Adobe's website, and further disseminated through various digital and print trade publications.  I respect Adobe's right to not reverse its decision.  If our business decided to put a sign on the front doors (since we don't have contact info for all of our past customers) saying we'd closed that night at 5 PM instead of 11 PM as usual, we aren't obligated to let in latecomers.  But I'd also recognize their right to be mad at us for wasting their travel time.  What I WOULDN'T do is tell them it's THEIR fault for not being proactive and calling ahead to confirm the expectation that our hours are still the same as they've been for the last decade.  NOR would I be surprised if we didn't get their $50 that month.  These Germans tend to hold grudges.

  • Upgrade from CS3 to CS6 font compatibility issues...

i recently upgraded from cs3 to cs6. my old true type font library does not show up in the new software. question: what type format must i buy to be compatible with the cs6 master collection?

Okay...it's a brand new computer (Dell XPS 8500) and I just bought one of the products before I realized that the CS3 wasn't compatible with Windows 7.  Do I delete the CS3 and reinstall the after-market product?  Or do I delete the after-market product and reinstall and it automatically finds CS6?
I've been trying to get this running for three days!  LOL  I'm ready to throw it out the window....
Thanks for your speedy reply and thanks in advance for any more light you can shed on my situation!

  • Upgrade from CS3 to CS6 -- after market stuff gone!

After my upgrade from CS3 to CS6, my after-market items are not showing up.  (Kubota Action Dashboard, Totally Rad Actions RadLab...)
My inexperience assumed that the CS6 would overwrite the CS3 in the upgrade, but now I have two programs....one with my after-market products and one without.
    Any help out there??
    Thanks in advance...

What do you mean by creations? CMYK is only relevant to printing.

  • Upgrade From CS5 To CS6 Problems With Flash Graphics?

    Hi People.
I upgraded from Adobe CS5 to CS6. I originally built a printable book and developed an interactive version in InDesign CS5, which I finally exported to Flash. For the printed version I used Adobe illustrator to create the book images and for the interactive version I converted the images into SWF.
The upgrade from Adobe CS5 to CS6 went well for the InDesign printed version of the book and I exported the new CS6 version of the printed book to PDF. However when I opened the old InDesign CS5 interactive version of the book in InDesign CS6 I was missing the links for the images.
When I tried to relink the images I was told `Cannot place this file. No filter found for requested operation:.
Please please help me because I am 2000 images in the new CS6 interactive version and short of going back and replacing each one individually, I am at a loss.
    Thanks.

    Steve,
    Thanks...
Yes I can place the old SWF file into a new CS6 document and that works well, but I`m talking about 3 books of a total of nearly 10,00 images, which is a lot of time of replacing old for new,
Maybe I`ll stick with the interactive books staying in CS5 because I can`t see any material benefit of upgrading them to CS6, unless they were to be EPuped from their present CD Rom format?
However I do think it is a dreadfull oversight of Adobe not to stop me be penalized in a large slice of my profession, interactive second language book production, for the good intent of upgrading my CS Master Suite,
    Take Care.

Any assistance would be appreciated been trolling the net for ages no success.

I apologise, I had overlooked that; it should be possible, though.

Owners of a CS5 or CS5.5 suite edition qualify for upgrade pricing to a CS6 suite edition. Owners of an individual CS5 or CS5.5 product qualify for upgrade pricing on that CS6 product. Any version earlier than CS5 will not be eligible for upgrade pricing.

  • Keywords lost in upgrading from cs5 to cs6

    Hi,
Recently, I upgraded from Photoshop CS5 to CS6, including Bridge.
A very bad surprise was to find that the keyword system that I had developed and used to assign kewords to new pictures was no longer there.
Apparently, this very important "personal setting" was not transferred in the upgrade procedure.
What can I do to retrieve it?
What is the filename in which Bridge keeps the keywords?
Perhaps I could find it on my system or some backup.
Or, if that won't work:  I notice that when opening an old picture its kwds appear in the kwd panel, although in italics. and not in the hierarchical fashion they should.
However, retrieving my kwds this way would be a terible task if I have to open each of thousands of pictures one by one.
Is there a batch kind of way to do this, that retrieves the kwds from all pix in a folder with subfolders?
    Please help,
    Sverker

Thanks all for considering my problem and for the advice!
I was away from these matters for a while, now I'm back on it.
First let me mention that I did indeed find a program for looking into the big .MIG file.
But alas, the keywords file was not there, don't know why (thus it didn't matter to me that extraction of files from the .MIG didn't seem to work.)
Thus I was ready to follow the advice you guys gave me from the beginning, to recreate the keyword list from the image files.  I made some use of the suggested Find / Keyword, chosing a particular keyword or just "exists" for a folder.
But I soon found out that my keyword structure needed several improvements, and thus I gave up simply hitting Make Persist.
Instead I am working my way on smaller chunks of files -- feels worth the trouble.
To make this work more efficient, it would be useful if there were a way to prevent Bridge from starting to immediately writing changes to the files on disk, doing it over and over again for each keyword I assign or remove.
Would be much better if I could make all changes in, say, a folder and then ask Bridge to write the changes to disk.
Do you know if there is an option to stop the immediate writing of changes?
I vaguely seem to remember I'v read about it, but now I can't find any such opotion.
(maybe this should be posted as a new question?)
    Regards,
    Sverker

  • After upgrading from cs5 to cs6, do I have to upgrade extensis fusion 3 to 4?

Do I have to upgrade from fusion 3 to 4 now that I have upgraded cs5 to cs6?
And do you know if extensis offers student discounts? I can't find anything on the 'net or their site, but I thought I'd ask here too before I buy the upgrade for (ugh) $50.
I thought maybe I would open the files in cs5 first, to auto-activate the fonts, then close, then reopen in cs6. Kind of a hassle, but it saves me a bit of green…
    Any suggestions welcome.

Yes, I have posted there, too. But these forums are more robust. Thanks

  • Upgrading from CS3 to CS6

Can I buy the upgrade only to go from CS3 to CS6 ?

    fantasy creative wrote:
I'm very surprised that Adobe has apparently started a "one version back" upgrade policy.
Yes, it generated a big outcry when it was announced in late 2011.
Originally the dispensation for CS3 and CS4 users did not exist. It was "one version back" across the board, effective immediately. That, frankly, stank. Made everyone mad, not least the habitual version skippers who were stranded on CS3 or CS4 still in the "three versions back" mindset.
Took a lot of concerted campaigning from grass roots users as well as some very influential key Adobe users such as Scott Kelby http://scottkelby.com/2011/an-open-letter-to-adobe-systems/to change Adobe's corporate mind and reintroduce some fairness and sanity to the situation.
Eventually Adobe saw the light and conceded to a 31 Dec 2012 cutoff for CS3 and CS4.
However, I'm expecting to see some irate CS3 and CS4 users in the forums in January 2013.
That said, I personally believe that traditional licensing (pay once upfront and use forever) for Adobe products is in its sunset phase being slowly prepared for retirement. Pure speculation on my behalf. I'm of the opinion that Adobe will go Cloud-only with all its software delivery sometime within the next 5 years so this "one version back" nonsense will probably become a moot point.
