Illustrator vector shapes become jagged in flash
does anyone know why when importing vector shapes from
illustrator into flash the shapes become very jagged when the swf
file is published?

Hi R-Designer,
The jagged edges are caused by the import process in Flash.
When it
encounters complex fills or lines it can't directly handle,
it converts them
to bitmaps. Illustrator will also sometimes do this when
exporting for
Flash. Unfortunately, the only way to deal with this is to
reduce the
complexity of your image (especially fills or fancy lines) or
exporting the
whole thing as a high-res bitmap.

i created the above in ill CS4 [i created the above PDF for you to see]. i printed it direct from the ill file and the curves are not what i thought they would be. but then again, maybe it's because of the printer we use?
we use an HP 2550 color laser printer. maybe this printer can't handle the pen tool vector shapes? am i not making the shapes the proper way to insure they are smooth when printed? or is it the printer?

If it is a Postscript printer check the settings in Advanced of the print dialog. -
Illustrator vector object becomes less black in Photoshop
I drew an object, all black, in Illustrator, then placed it into Photoshop, the vector become less saturated than it was in Illustrator. Can anyone help me solve this problem?

Now "Appearance of Black" controls how black is displayed/printed/exported in Illustrator and I think that the default setting is "Display All Blacks As Rich Black" which means than if you use 100K Black in Illustrator and then transfer it to PS it might look less black in PS, depending on your settings.
It's one of those things that, even if new to CMYK, 100K black would look so wrong, you'd have to look into it and find out what the heck was going on

Exporting Vector shapes to Illustrator?
I know I can get illustrator vector shapes into motion, but what about getting them out?
I've some nice shapes created I want to get out for print piece and I don't want to have to recreate them.As far as I can tell, it can't be done. Perhaps you can export a still with Alpha, high resolution into Photoshop and then convert the selection to a path... It probably won't be quite as smooth or crisp, but If you can get it enough high res then it would probably work.
Out of curiosity, I attempted to print the Motion file (after creating a vector shape)... but instead of printing, I hit save as PDF (to see if it would transfer the vector data)...
But it didn't work. I tried opening in Illustrator and just got an empty box. -
How do I automate global vector shape, mask & path transfers to Illustrator?
Using: WIN7, Adobe CS5, PS, AI (but others may appreciate answers for CS6, etc.)
When I need to move a project from Photoshop to Illustrator, I need an automated way to prep shape and vector mask items for export--preferably preserving the structure and layout that already exists as layer names and order, character and paragraph settings, and of course global registration. My scripting is limited to recording actions, so I need to find an existing script or get coached on this. Any recommendations?
I have googled and waded through numerous forum posts trying to research this on my own, so I know about the ability to export my path collection, but that's usually inapplicable in reality. It only deals with vectors from the Paths pallette. In Photoshop, I use the Paths pallet to store master and WIP paths, but all the working paths are either shapes or vector masks--or active type layers. Often enough that it's become an issue, I'll need to move the whole project to Illustrator. Obviously, the process has issues; I'm not expecting the rastor layers or Photoshop styles to carry over, but I see no reason why I can't capture text, shape and vector mask elements.
They all have a vector component, but simply opening a PSD in Illustrator flattens (badly) the layers. I select the "Convert Layers as Objects" but have yet to see it extract editable text. I'm not sure if it even attempts to do anything with vector shapes or masks. I've got a process for moving a project one element at a time, using registration marks--but this requires turning text into shapes most of the time, especially if I am trying to preserve kerning and leading crucial to the layout. Maybe I just have not found the right info, and there is a way to transfer editable text without losing character and paragraph settings. I'd love to hear about it.
For now, I'd be happy to stop wasting time doing a ton of conversions and renaming by hand, just so I can preserve the work I've already invested.
One suggestion, posted under a multiple path export question, was to use scripting... but no one explored or explained how to go about it. I'm not asking for the impossible, however. I simply need help working out my own solution: if there is no application method for transferring the elements, try to script a method to prep those elements for export. Before I even attempt to reinvent someone's wheel, I am putting the question out there:
Does anyone know of a solution that already exists?

edit: I kept at it and managed to open my current project PSD in AI with text and shape/mask vectors successfully--not as cleanly as I'd hoped but the relative positioning of things was acceptable. I am still interested in hearing people's suggestions on better ways to transfer work from one tool to the other, though. I know this is going to come up for me again and again...

regardsYou should be able to import an AI image or copy/paste AI content into Flash and then use the Modify->Break Apart command or doubleclick (as many times as needed) to get down to the drawn elements where they can be manipulated as vector shapes in Flash.

Vector shapes suddenly looks jagged when exported from InDesign to pdf
I've read several discussions on pdf export topics but none of them seem to solve this issue. I have an indesign document with multiple pages, its both vector shapes, text and pixel graphics. I worked on this for weeks and I exported this document to pdf numerous times and it all looked good every time I did it. All of a sudden I started to get a very bad looking export, just out of the blue the shapes, logos etc got this jagged look and it looks aweful - see my enclosed examples.
I have done nothing to my pdf export setup, InDesign setup or any screen preferances. It's just a mystery to me. It seems to be hurting all my sirculare shapes and not my text in general! Every pixel image / photography exports perfect to pdf. My page display is set to smooth text rendering in my pdf preferences. What's up? What puzzles me is this happened so sudden after numerous fine exports. I'm using InDesign CS6.
This is the O in a logo that's been placed on a page. The right one is what I get when I export to pdf now, the left one is what I used to getJohn, your are very wrong about post #2. I personally had a rendering problem that was all solved by setting the opacity to 99.9% - it was exported horribly but fixed by this operation. You can read other user stories that confirms this too. But this is not the same issue so let's leave it at that. I just wanted to mention it in terms of having jagged exports.
There's been no updates thats been changing the Acrobat settings. Acrobat has a default setting in terms of page display that I haven't changed ever as a matter of fact. I shared that info in case someone asked. I'm not connected to any printer, the file is for screen view and third partie receivers can print if they need to (I'm not connected to any printer at work, there's a no print policy). Watching the corporate identity material look terrible on the screen is hardly something a marketing manager likes to do and I don't wanna be the designer responsible for that. So all I want is to solve this mystery and get things back to how it was just two days ago. As described nothing is changed in terms of technical things AND the same terrible results occur when opening a new indd file with a new vector file and exporting that. So the error is not connected to a spesific document or file.
I remember having export rendering problems of all kinds in CS3, CS4 and CS5, it was all sort of quirky operations I had to do to solve them. Once I actually sat on the phone talking to a technical advisor at Adobe in Ireland while he was trying to explain that this was one of those weak spots of InDesign vs Acrobat. I was emailed a script, if that's not a bugfix I don't know what is. He tried to explain how to embedd the file into the installation setup but the end of the story was a full CS4 MA Collection refund. I'm trying to avoid placing foreign calls this time around and nothing has helped so far. I've been reading endless forum threads different places that describes the problem I have but they never end up with a solution for InDesign CS6 and export routines. Line to Illustrator : no vector shape
Updated today Illustrator CC & Line, when I send my file from Line to Illustrator I only get a bitmap picture in Illustrator. What's up please, hey guys where are the vector shapes ??? I can't understand what you're doing with those app, there are a lot of app much more easier to use than yours !!! Look at Concep'ts for example, we can can compare it to Line but they offer layers, shapes can be easily moved and file can be send to illustrator and opened in a vector format. It's a shame that this can not be possible with your own app !!!! Sorry but I'm totally disappointed…
Downloaded today the new Adobe draw which replace now adobe Ideas, rulers are are implemented, this is a good thing and you can export vector files to Illustrator. But strokes are exported as vector forms (like it was in Ideas) so you can't easily move your strokes in Illustrator or adjust their size. We have then tons of app by adobe I understand your marketing thinking to make us use your cloud, but it's now difficult for me to choose between those app, what is the interest of Line between Sketch and Illustrator draw ? And two others app to make shapes and brushes, and one other for colors and and and…………this is a cloudy cloud !

Photoshop CC Vector Shape Fill Defaults issue
For some reason whenever I create a vector shape the default Fill is always Pattern instead of flat color. It used to default to whatever the last style I used in CS6, but for some reason in CC no matter what all shapes I make are default ugly bubble pattern that no one would ever use. It's annoying to have to change the color of every single shape I make and I can't find a way to make it not change back to that pattern every time I make a new shape.
Anyone else have this problem or know how to set what my default shape style is?It isn't entirely intuitive, but Chris is right, except that it's not "the last thing you used, " instead it's the last setting you changed before drawing a shape. PS will ignore the last setting you used if you change it after creating the shape.
The trick is to change the settings before you draw a new shape. Then PS saves that as the default.
I was pulling my hair out in frustration because I would draw a shape and it would have some rather annoying settings from a couple of weeks ago. I'd change it expecting that it would behave like the Text tool. Where the last settings you used becomes the setting for the next text box you create. But for what ever reason it does not behave as expected. I'm assuming it's because it's inheriting some behavior from Illustrator or where ever the tool was borrowed from.
Either way, change your settings BEFORE drawing the shape and you'll be good.

Why do vector shapes in scaled smart objects blur?
This remains a point of frustration.
Why does converting a vector shape to a smart object in Photoshop mean that it's then treated as a bitmap and blurs when scaled up?
If i paste the same vector shape into Illustrator and then back into Photoshop as a smart object it then behaves correctly, and remains sharp.
See the image for example of what i mean. Left is the master shape, centre is it converted into a smart object in Photoshop, right pasted to and from Illustrator. These were then scaled 300% resulting in the centre one blurring.
I don't really want to have to invovle Illustrator in this way and keep all my vector work in Photoshop now it has the tools to do so, but this issue creates me a lot of extra work.
Or am i doing something wrong?
RobSmart Object layers are transform to other sizes through interpolating the pixels rendered for the embedded object not be using vector graphics on the embedded object.. If your resize resizes the pixel count way un the image will become soft. Yoy can try seting your Photoshop Default interpolation setting to other setting then Adobe default Bicubic Automatic to something like plain bicubic which IMO is a better general purpose option then Bicubic Automatic.
You can also open the embedded object by double clicking the smart layers smart object icon in the layers palette. Once opened in Photoshop resize the vector graphic using Image size and save the embedded vector object larger. Photoshop will update the smart object layers content then. -
Brush strokes become jagged after a few seconds
I've tried just about everything to narrow down and eliminate this problem, with no luck.
When I first start PS and paint a line with a simple hard round brush, it's nice and smooth. After about 15 seconds (or 4-5 lines), the lines become jagged.They're not pixely - it's more like what happens if you have smoothing turned off. The effect is more pronounced when I paint zoomed out, as if the input data is constrained to the zoomed out pixel size.
This is not a tablet problem - it happens with the mouse as well.
It does not happen with the lasso selection tool, so it seems limited to the brush tool.
Here's an image showing a series of brushstrokes, going from left to right. You can see how the stroke quality degrades from the first stroke (on the left) which is nice and smooth, to the strokes on the right which are jagged. You need to view the image at 100% to see what's happening clearly.
The fact that this problem doesn't appear when I first start the program, then creeps in, is really perplexing! Once it starts it never goes away.What does your system look like. To tell you the truth I don't seem to be having any of the problems you are having with the mouse or Wacom pen. I don't like installing Plug-in I have no intention of using. Particulart Photoshop Plug-in for I keep plug-ins outside any Adobe folder and plug-installers a tend to install the plug-in in every version of Photoshop they find installed. I just download a trial of LN and after it installed I removed all the plug-in it installed into different version of Photoshop one my system. I copies the 32bit and 64Bit plug-ins into my Photoshop plug-ins trees. My windows workstation is good but not top of the line good. I do not see the jitter you seem to be getting with or without the plug-in enabled, I'm no artiest all I can do is scribble fast and slow, I do not see bad jitter. Stumped with vector shape tween
I'm trying to make a simple animation using a vector graphic I imported to Flash after creating it in Illustrator. What I want to do is to stretch the graphic and have the original form grow into the stretched form, by adjusting the vectors to stretch the shape. So far I've gotten this all figured out (I have barely any experience with Flash). I break down the graphic until it allows me to turn it into a shape tween. But when I go to test the animation, it does this weird thing where the inside of the letter (it's a word I'm animating) shrinks and moves out of the way for the inside that matches the stretched contour? Or, the letters start trading places? I'm very confused by this since I have no idea what I did to tell it to do this. How do I just get this animation to be done simply?
Any help is much appreciated.

Kate1. distribute each discrete part of the shape to its own layer (right click on shape>distribute to layers).
2. tween each layer.
3. use shape hints (modify>shape>add shape hints). -
Can you blur vector shapes in Photoshop without rasterizing?
Is there a way to blur vector shapes in Photoshop, similar to the way Illustrator does, without having to rasterizing the layer? I am working with a very large file that has been scaled from 300dpi to 50 in order to manage it while working. I will sclae back to 300 dpi before sending to printer. Rasterized images will soften as you know which i guess is ok when it comes to a blurred shape, now that i think about it. But for future reference?

DMIn the layer of interest make sure the vector mask is selected. Then in the Masks panel adjust the feather slider to an amount that looks right.

MouseClick trough a vector shape not working when there is a bitmap below it?
Hello, I got something strange going on.
I have one class called Person that extends a Sprite.
First i have a bitmap that i add to the sprite class:
This bitmap is a transparent PNG.
addChild(_imageBitmap);
then i did some drawing in Flash that has the shape of this person and extended this to
the SimpleButton. This way, only the edge or the inner shape is clickable.
then i add this shape to this Person class too.
addChild(_personShape);
This way, the shape is on top of the bitmap.
Now i have an clickable item behind this person. This item is visible because it is in the
transparent area of the bitmap and shape.
This clickable item does not respond on the mouse click! Only when i disabel the imageBitmap
(I tried uncomment the line addChild(_imageBitmap) and then it works just fine!
This means that the bitmap is causing the problem to get a click trough.
Is there a propertie for a bitmap like MouseChildren = false? or something else to make use
of a click trough within a shape?

Thanks for the advise, but i already tried the mouseChildren properties.
The bitmap has no property mouseChildren, so i created a new Container (sprite) and added
this bitmap to it and set the mouseChildren property to it. and the MouseEnabled too, but nothing happend differently.
The strange thing of this, is the fact that the rollOver and the RollOut item behind the bitmap image works just fine.
It has probably something to do with the fact that the clickable item is an displayObject3D (Papervision)
But what i also don't understand is when i don't use this bitmap, and only the vector shape it works just fine.
So i did a little trick, i did a break apart from he image and cut out the shape of the person with the lasso tool.
And i replaced this with the image shape and now it works.

Lost box to enter web addresses on Safari page
