Illustrator wierd grey screen and loading icon bug

Weird one here - When illustrator opens from startup - it creates two window panes. One with all the windows I had open on a previous session of illustrator, and another with all the same tabs, but the whole window is greyed out and theres a large loading icon over it.
It doesn't really cause issues, and illustrator works normally - but it is quite odd, I thought I'd see if anyone else had the issue.
I'm working on iOS mountain lion, and illustrator CS5
Thanks

I see 10.6.3 in your profile---is tthat what you are trying to load? If so, it won't work. No PowerPC Mac like your G5 can run a Mac OS version higher than 10.5.8

  • Imac grey screen and loading bar

When I turn on my mac, I get a grey screen, the apple logo and a progress bar
I've troubleshoted the problem many times and have been without my mac for months
    Some things you should know:
I am far from a Mac wizz, any real advice needs to be newb friendly (if possible)
I dont have the disks to restore it and have tried getting a new one to no avail.
I have tried safe mode, just wont work.
I have tried verbose mode; It used to boot but now comes up with "launch_msg: Socket not connected" and theres an Invalid Sybling link somewhere in there to.
When I fsck -y it, it says the Macintosh HD cannot be repaired; while I had access to the mac, I repaired permissions (succesful) and tried verifiying hard disk (it didnt work).

  • Browsing Youtube and Macbook Pro (2009) froze--rebooting just leads to apple logo against grey screen and loading circle

I was browsing Youtube when the entire Macbook Pro (2009) froze up. After a couple of minutes, I forced a shut down and now when I try starting it back up it just displays the apple logo against the grey backdrop with the loading circle just going around and around.
I have no idea what's going on with it. I tried disconnecting it from the power cord--letting it cool down, took the battery out, etc...

That's called a Gray Screen issue and it could be caused by multiple factors.

  • G5 Quad won't get passed grey screen and spinning icon

    Hi,
I can't seem to get my G5 past the grey start up screen. I hear the drive making a similar noise over and over again. I tried booting from CD and works but disk utility doesn't work on it. I slaved it to my laptop and it shows up but then I get an error of failure and then it's de-highlighted.
    Any suggestions is appreciated

Hi, sounds like the HD is dying.
I tried booting from CD and works but disk utility doesn't work on it.
Meaning the HD doesn't show up there, or what?
I slaved it to my laptop and it shows up but then I get an error of failure and then it's de-highlighted.
Do you know what the error said exactly?

Rebooting will not make you lose any content. Rebooting is when you hold the home button and the sleep button down at the same time until the Apple logo appears on the screen.
You can these suggestions. One might work for you.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.

  • My macbook pro doesn't bootbeyond the grey screen with apple icon and spinning wheel.

My macbook pro doesn't boot beyond the grey screen with apple icon and spinning wheel.  I used the "Option" button to access the Disk Utility function and run Repair Disk and Repair Disk Permissions.  Should I restart my computer?

The following support article is somewhat outdated. Where it refers to booting from an installation disc, you should boot from your recovery partition (if running 10.7 or later) by holding down the key combination command-R at the chime.

  • Ibookg4 will not go past the grey screen and will not accept a disc

my ibook will not go past the grey screen and will not accept a disc

Have you tried starting up in Safe Mode? If not, I suggest that you give it a try. This will take quite awhile longer than a normal startup because it does a file check and repair of the hard disk.
If this works you will see your normal desktop. Once completely started up in Safe Mode, try to restart normally, and go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Click on the top hard drive icon in the left sidebar and note the S.M.A.R.T. status at the bottom right of the pane. What does it say?
Select the named boot volume in the left sidebar, ("Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it). What is the hard drive capacity and how much space remains available on it? Repair permissions on it.
See if you are able to do a little hard drive maintenance to help things out.

  • How can I get rid of The Grey screen and boot my macbook?

Today I was on my MacBook Pro (bought July 2011) and it went to a blank blue screen. I powered it off and tried to restart it. It loaded the apple and spinning circle but it went to a grey screen and froze there. I've read and tried a lot of different things already but nothing has worked. I did the hardware test and it found no problems. I tried to safeboot it.  I tried everything on here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570 except the last suggestion (I'd rather not have to lose all my files unless absolutely nesseccary). I also tried the "hold Command + R keys" to try and get to utilities. Anything else out there that I could try? Not sure what the exact operating system is either.

I wouldn't assume that's the hard drive. The fact that the screen turned blue all of a sudden isn't necessarily an indication of a hard drive failure. Check out this post I made yesterday:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/21756819#21756819
My personal opinion would be to try and boot from an external hard drive with the appropriate OS installed. With a 2011 model, I would assume that should be Snow Leopard or later. AHT doesn't catch everything, and I don't know if it even does drive scans for bad blocks. I do know for a fact that it pretty much limits itself to digital interfaces and can't go beyond analog driver stages. For example, if the driver stages of a FireWire port or ethernet port are blown, AHT will report them as being OK.
If you got hit by a transient, which could indicate an internal supply problem or a line problem if you were connected to the internet via a wired connection or you were running off the charger, there's no telling what it might have caused the drive to do (if it's the drive) and it could easily cause the screen to suddenly go to blue, but what other damage was done?
My point is that you need to confirm what the source of the problems are. If there's a logic board problem, your drive and data may be OK. If the drive is bad, some of it may still be recoverable. The problem may very well be drive related, but I wouldn't go out and start throwing money at new parts without first confirming what the cause of the problems is.
Hope this helped, and good luck.

  • Unable to complete reports, grey screen and freezing

I was wondering if anyone else is having the problem of getting a grey screen and unable to continue in Oracle when trying the run either financial reports or MPR reports. We have researched the differences in computer hardware and software loaded and basically all is the same. The strange thing is that the reports were working on 2 computers and all of a sudden they are freezing with the grey screen. No new programs were added to either the server or the user.

Well, an Invalid Node Structure is usually not repairable using Disk Utility. But I see you ran it from the disk (the best result doing this in Tiger). Now it's Invalid Key Length, a little better then the 1st report, but still leaves her down. I would try the Disk Repair several more times. That is what is suggested if DU does not succeed the 1st time.
This is pretty serious directory damage. Perhaps if Disk Utility repairs were done once a month, it wouldn't have gotten this far. Doing an Archive and install, with the directory having this much damage, is not what I would recommend. If she has nothing to lose, important data, music, pictures then it's worth a try but more then likely it will be problematic.
But you say no volume showed; not good. Have here try a PMU reset to see if we can get the volume to show.
I will try to help further if you can tell me if her data is important!

  • HT4904 I need to repair my start up disc so I have to start up from installation disc. In doing so, my computer restarts, I hear the mac sound, then a grey screen and then turns off and goes on in this cycle endlessly. Why can't I restart from disc?

I need to repair my start up disc so I have to start up from installation disc. In doing so, my computer restarts, I hear the mac sound, then a grey screen and then turns off and goes on in this cycle endlessly. Why can't I restart from disc?

Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
      1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
      2. Restart the computer.
      3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
      4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple
          logo appears.
      5. Wait for installer to finish loading.

  • Grey screen and cranking noise

My screen froze and started making cranking noises.  I turned it off.  Now, when I turn it on, it shows the grey screen and makes a ton of noise.  Help!

Is the loud noise coming from the right of the trackpad?  If so that may indicate a disk crash.  Check the following.
    Boot in Recovery Mode.
    http://www.apple.com/osx/recovery/
If it boots in standard recovery mode then at least part of your internal disk is working.
If it boots in network recovery mode then your internal disk may be damaged but the rest of you Mac may be healthy.
If it boots in Recovery Mode or Network Recovery Mode:
Run Disk Utility.  This will check if the disk and filesystem are healthy.
Click on the upper left disk icon.
(If there is no upper left icon then your disk has crashed.)
Does the S.M.A.R.T. status say “Verified”.
If not the disk/SSD is unhealthy and needs to be replaced.
Click on the icon indented below, usually called “Macintosh HD”.
    Verify Disk.
If it finishes with a green “OK” message then all is well with the disk.
If it shows errors in red then you may have found the problem.
If it has not crashed you may want to backup or do an emergency data copy before proceeding.
Post back with your results and for details on a possible data recovery.
