Illustrator will not open files

Hello,
I am using Adobe Illustrator 11.0 for Windows (running on Windows Vista), and for some reason I am not able to open files that were previously created with the same software, on the same system, on the same computer.
The files will not open whether I double-click them or even if I try to open them after I've opened Illustrator first. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem?

You run as administrator or adjust your user privileges in your group policy editor plus you tell your virus scanner or otehr security tools to keep their hands off AI files. You are running a legacy software on a system it was never tested on, so naturally there will be problems. Those old apps not being compatible with Vista's and W7's security stuff is one of them...

Sorry Larry! I'll try to be more clear.
Basically, when I create a new CMYK document in Illustrator I am having issues saving it as a cmyk pdf file even though I am using the using the Press Quality and PDFX-1a presets. Normally, those settings would create a CMYK pdf file but when I view the color modes in Acrobat and Photoshop those programs are telling me they are in RGB formats.
I have been viewing the color mode in Acrobat Pro by going to print>Advanced. Under the Color Management section on the right the color Profile reads Working RGB: Adobe RGB (1998). See screenshot below.
When I try to open the .pdf files in Photoshop to check the color mode, the mode is showing up as RGB as well. See screenshot below.

Adobe Indesign & Illustrator CS6 will not open files off server after Mac Maverick update.

I updated to Mac OS X Maverick and all the sudden my InDesign and Illustrator will not open files off of my works network. I read somewhere about installing the new Java update may help fix it, but I tried it and it did not. I have restarted my computer and reset the connection to the server multiple times, but it does nothing.
The exact message I get is: "Cannot open the files "xxxx.indd" Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file may be missing, or the file may be open in another application" I know for a fact that it is not open in another application so it is not that. I have tried multiple files on the server as well.
For Illustrator, I try to open a file from the server and it just freezes and does not respond so I have to force quit.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Please help!

If you had asked before you did this I would have told you not to move to Mavericks unless you were prepared for problems. I’m not a proponent of upgrade installations for operating systems and there’s no way to eliminate that as the cause.
That said, before you start erasing the whole machine, try uninstalling CS6 and then reinstalling it. You might want to run the cleaner tool after the uninstallation.

Illustrator will not open my files! HELP!

Hello,
My Illustrator will not open my files. At first I will launch the program open a file then the timer just spins and spins as if its thinking but nothing ever happens. The menu on the dock says its not responding. If I leave it like that for about 2 hours it will eventually open. But when I work and save again I get the same thing, application is not responding unless I let it sit there for a few hours. I reinstalled the software and nothing seems to be working.
Please help. This is wasting my time and very frustrating.

The files I am trying to open are standard CS3 .ai files... I'm not on a networked server. Its just my computer with my licensed software.
I'm creating a website so there is some type and some placed images. But this problem happens even when I start a new file and draw an image with simple illustrator tools. Do you think I have corrupt preferences?

Illustrator will not open certain files

Certain files that I created in Illustrator will not open when I try to open them. I try to open the file and the AI application opens but the file itself does not. If I right click on the file and select properties, under security it says I have no permissions. However on other files created at the same time I have permissions and they open in AI just fine. thoughts?

That is strange, but if this is on your work computer, your should probably contact your system administrator to set it so that you have permission to use these images. If this is on your home computer, you should be able to change the permissions on your own.

Adobe Acrobat 11 will not open files in IE 10.0.06

Adobe Acrobat 11 will not open files in IE 10.0.06. Problem started about 2 months ago. It can open older files on computer but cannot open or downloadd any from internet. Using Office 2010. Already spent an hour with my computer tech support under warranty. Please help identify issue. Thanks

As a web designer - IMHO, Internet Exploder is absolute garbage disguised as software. This (and thousands of other threads in this and many other forums throughout the web) is just more proof of that. I've used Firefox since 2002 when it was still called Mozilla. It does about a million things IE can't and won't, and does them better, faster, and more sensibly.
Microsoft KNOWS that most corporate workstations have Windows and most I/T departments forbid installation of unapporved software, including browsers, so (by a very slim margin) IE is still the most used browser in the world, but... that doesn't by any means make it the best choice. Because they know so many people are literally FORCED to use it at work, they will not make it more functional than they absolutely have to, because they don't care if people like it or not, when they have no other choice.
On a home computer, it's different, and that's why Firefox is just a fraction of a percentage point behind IE in worldwide use, and thanks to iPhones, Safari is rapidly climbing the numbers too.
Rather than trying to work around something that even Microsoft won't bother to fix, abandon their junk and go with Firefox, Opera, Chrome or Safari. It won't be long till you're glad you did.

Please try following steps:
1. Run the installed Adobe Reader X.
2. Click on Edit in the menu bar.
3. Then click on Preferences in the drop down menu list.
4. Click on the Internet category on the left pane.
5. Now, make sure that Display PDF in Browser option is checked.
If above steps doesn't work then let me know which Browser you are using, may be we have to do some settings there.

There should not be a simple issue just because of versions, I think.
You may have a corrupted asset, as you seem to think. In that case, it's up to you to dig into the exact cause, sorry.

CS5 Illustrator will not open, or quits immediately

Hello! I have had CS5 since 2010. I have had no problems with my software until a few months ago, particularly with Illustrator. My Illustrator will not open, and if it does, it automatically quits after about a minute. An error box pops up listing problem details and system configuration. Any idea of what could be happening and how to fix it? Your help is really appreciated!

Nobody can tell you anything without proper system info or other technical details like crash logs.

The easiest solution is probably to use VLC. It can play just about anything.
However, Perian will help Quicktime play various formats.
Flip4Mac will help Quicktime play Windows Media files.

Illustrator randomly not opening file clicked on.

I'm on OS 10.8.5 with the most recent version of Creative Cloud. Recently alot of files (.AI) will not open for me. Illustrator app opens or at least comes to the front but nothing ever actually opens. Illustrator does not show an error, crash or close. The problem is intermitent and a file that doesn't open at first WILL open if I close Illustrator and then re-open. Mail, VMWare Fusion Pro 5, Suitcase Fusion 6, Safari and TextExpander are normally, but not always, running concurrently. I've repaired permissions and have Verdana & Tahoma installed. Anyone else having this issue? Thoughts?

Pages 2.0 will not open files

I just updated Pages in IO7 to version 2.0. Now I am not able to open all of my documents. How can I open these document.

iCloud is on. It seems like just one file will not open. I last wrote in the file on my iPad. I am not able to open the file on my IPad, iPhone,,or on my Mac through the cloud.

My photoshop will not open files or create new files, please help?

Photoshop CS6 on Windows 7 will not work,
When machine is first started the program works, for about 10 mins, then
I can not open files, create new ones. When it does work it can not perform functions like transform etc.
I tried disabling third party plug ins
I tried creating a new account on my machine
Nothing seems to work.
Can any one shed some light on the problem?

Photoshop CS6 will not open files

Right after rebooting my computer (Windows 7 Pro) I can open one photo file in CS6 using any normal method of opening a file in Photoshop. After closing that file I cannot open any more files using any method such as>Open Recent, File>Open, or right click open using Photoshop, by selecting the file, double-clicking to open it etc. I also cannot open a file in photoshop CS6 from Lightroom 5 using Photo>Edit In> Photoshop CS6. Everything works in Lightroom when I use Photo>Edit>open in CS6 Photoshop opens but the file doesn't.
If I reboot my computer I can then open one file using any of those methods, but when I try to open an additional file it will not open. I have run through all the opening Photoshop without plugins suggestions and all the other suggestions about what may cause this problem which I have found on Photoshop Help and Support Center and nothing has worked.
This started while Lightroom 4.4 and CS6 were on my machine and had been working well for months. Then, suddenly, I couldn't open anything in Photoshop. I know of no changes made to the computer. After trying various suggested solutions I reinstalled Photoshop CS6 and things seemed to be working so I went ahead with updating to Lightroom 5. The same problem popped up in CS6 again. Lightroom 5 and Lightroom 4.4 have both worked with no problems and still do. Photoshop seems to be the problem. I've also run an antivirus which found nothing.
Any suggestions?
