Illustrator won't load .AI files...  Corrupt??  PDFFormat.aip required!

Hello,
SPECS
Dell XPS M1350 / 2.4 GHZ INTEL 4 / 3 GB RAM / 220 GB HD / NVIDIA GEFORCE M8000 SERIES
PURCHASED
Adobe Design Premium Edition.  Three months ago.
PROBLEM
Just last night, I went to load Illustrator CS4 and it loaded just fine.  I went to open up an Illustrator file that I have been working on and it came up with the error "An unknown error has occured."  The error popped up twice and I pressed my only option, OK.  The file didn't open.  Usually I can open the .AI files or at least import them into Photoshop and now Photoshop just freezes and closes itself when I attempt to import an Illustrator file.  Now, I tried to open a new document in Illustrator.  Before I could type in my specs for the project, Illustrator came up with an error "Illustrator cannot create document.  Command cancelled."  Out of curiosity, I went to see if the rest of my Adobe products were working.  They were all fine, aside from the Illustrator-realted Photoshop issue.
I decided to re-install Illustrator.  I uninstalled it just fine and then installation went successfully.  However, now Illustrator will flat out not load, period.  It comes up with an error: "Missing Plug-In Required.  PDFFormat.aip missing."  I have conducted many searches since then to find out what the issue is and I have come up with nothing.  My thinking is that my version of Vista is not compatible, but that wouldn't explain why it ran flawlessly for three months before now.
As a result, all of my Illustrator files are corrupt.  My older version of Illustrator won't even open these files!  Nothing, not even Acrobat will read these files now.  Unknown errors all over the place.  I am sickened by the thought of the loss of all of my work.  I need these files!!  I need this program as well!  What is even stranger for me to understand is that the night before it worked fine and I used Illustrator without adding or changing a thing.  I worked for a little bit, then shut the lid of my laptop and went to bed.  That's it!
I can provide more details if necessary.
Thank you for reading-- and for helping!  I would greatly appreciate any advice I can get.  I need to get back to work, pronto!!
Thanks again!

It is an unknown error and I do not think if they were working in the past that they are all of a sudden corrupt. It sounds to me like you will have to repair your permissions. Now I can tell you from experience that it sounds like Illustrator cannot access the various directories it has to and that seems to me like a permissions problem.
You will need some one familiar with Windows and Vista to tell you how to go about his but the problem here is that all the Windows users seem opposed to even considering this possibility and instead of even trying this approach they have even gone to the extreme of having the user reinstal their system.
So what I am writing is a suggestion and beyond that I wish you well.
But before I go it can also be a font cache problem and there are tools to clear those files as well this approach at least has had some acceptance.
Good Luck.

  • TS1702 iBooks won't load PDF files any more on my Ipad2. Anybody seen this one before?

    Hello All,
iBooks won't load PDF files any more.
I have a lot of PDF files so I thought I reached a maximum number of files or space so I deleted a lot of old files but this did not help.
I rebooted, synced, updated, restarted, etc. - everything that I can think of and I still have the same problem.
I don't remembered the last file that I loaded into iBooks, as I usually put them into collections.
I can still load PDF files into other applications like PDF Reader, but I prefer to have them all in iBooks.
    Anybody seen this one before?
    I have 64GB iPad2 and I have over 14GB free space.

There have been several threads on this topic over the last few weeks. It's not clear what the issue is, and it is not universal, but tend to effect users storing large numbers of PDFs in iBooks. Possible it has some thing to dowith capacity of the app, or specific characteristics of some of the PDFs.

  • Silverlight won't load .asx file on 13" MkBkPro

Silverlight won't load .asx file on 13" MkBkPro
I want to view the streaming video of lectures from a password encoded site where it seems the only app I can use is Microscoft's Silverlight. Problem is that Safari won't initiate the Silverlight plugin on the 13" MacBookPro. The 13" MacBookPro is my main desktop computer; it is attached to a Cinema Display for extra desktop space, thus I really want to use this computer to view the videos. The videos load and play just fine using Safari on my MacBookAir, with a very similar configuration as the MacBookPro.
I've trashed and re-installed all Silverlight files from the MacBookPro as recommended by the Microsoft Silverlight forum, but still the videos won't load. Just for a brief portion of a second, the "loading" bar appears, but then disappears, leaving me with a black and blank window in Safari on the MacBookPro.
I'm running OS X 10.6.8 on a 13" MacBookPro5,5 AND on a MacBookAir3,1. Both computers are running Safari 5.1 (6534.50). Both computers have the Silverlight plugin (ver 4.0.60531.0) installed within ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins and within ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Silverlight/OutOfBrowser. There is no trace of Silverlight in myaccount/Library/Internet Plug-Ins or in myaccount/Library/Receipts subdirectories on either computer. The only difference I can find between the two computers is their processor, the type of HD, and that the MacBookPro's SLLauncher.app was modifed today (9/24/11), whereas that on the MacBookAir was modified 9/4/11.
Any suggestions of further things to try to get the videos to play on the MacBookPro?

I've previously tried that, but just to be sure, I tried again. Tthe only thing that downloads is the html file that contains the link to the video.
The Silverlight test on the Microsoft web site does not open Silverlight and load when using either Safari 5.1 or Firefox 6.0.2. So the issue on the MacBookPro5,5 involves more than a single streaming video web site or browser.
I've posted the same original description of the problem on the Silverlight forum. No responses. I'll try sending it to Microsoft as a problem installing Silverlight. That's supposed to be "no charge".
Thanks for your time and advice.

  • Safari won't load css file

I'm developing a web page at http://uoregon.edu/~jbernal/index_20080723.html. Safari (v 3.1.2) won't load the external css file for this page. The page looks fine in Firefox 3.0. Any suggestions to help me render the css?

Safari 3.1.2 (my machine) loading it without issue.
Must be errors that Safari can't handle with your .css file code.

  • Premiere cs6 won't load cs5 file

This project contained a sequence that could not be opened.  No sequence preview presetfile or codec could be associated with this sequence type.
The project was created in CS5.  I get this messge again, again, and again, even after CS6 DID work once.  CS6 is supposed to load CS5-created premiere project and  sometimes converts it, etc.  Then won't load the converted project!!!!!
    I am using creative cloud.
    What is going on?

Jim, Thanks for the quick reply.  The problem is indeed a missing codec, viz. intra100.  There is a related problem that Adobe apparently has not solved: A/c to a technician.    CS5 overwrites CS6 files and vice-versa (in creative cloud anyway).  So,  I am constantly having to re-activate CS6  because of using CS5 for things like markers.
The tech said they would be working on it (two or three months ago).  Have you heard anything on this issue?
I am wondering if there is any simple way just to copy this particular coded for the moment.
    Thanks again.

  • Firefox won't load css file, due to incorrect MIME type.

I am using dynamic css to rotate header background images. It requires the line:
    echo "<style type='text/css' media='screen'> @import url('images/random-images/dynamic_css.php');</style>\n";
to be added between the <head> tags. The file 'dynamic_css.php' contains a line telling the browser that the file type is "text/css", but Firefox treats it as "text/html" and refuses to load it. If I duplicate the style declaration by also adding it outside of the head tags, Firefox loads it, but that causes other issues. What do I need to do to get Firefox to load the script from inside the head tags?

That is probably because the server doesn't send a file with the php file extension as text/css.<br />
Did you try to add a PHP header to make sure that the file gets send as text/css ?<br />
Firefox may try to load such files from the cache and not reload them from the server.

  • Adobe Captivate Reviewer - won't load .crev file in Vista

Using Reviewer for the first time (Captivate 4 on Vista box).
    Downloaded Reviewer from email link
Clicked on .crev file from email link
In the Reviewer, got message "Unable to load SWF file. Try opening Adobe Captivate Reviewer in the Administrator mode"  (see pic)
    Clicked OK
Clicked the .crev file in email link again per message "Load Adobe Captivate Movie (.crev, .swf., or .zip)"
Got same "unable to load.... " message again (see pic). Viscious circle here
Downloaded Reviewer to my XP machine - all works like it should.
What do I need to do to my Vista box (primary machine) for the Reviewer to work?
    SMILES
    Susann

This issue arises because, for some reason, the adobe developer(s) have hard coded a temporary file location of "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate Reviewer <X>*\workspace" to store the .crev, .swf or .zip file when you open it from its original location.  In most corporate environments "\Program Files\ or \Program Files (x86)\" is, correctly, restricted to non-administrative users to ensure the integrity of managed applications and the industry standards for temporary storage have been long established as \temp\, \windows\temp\ or <user profile>\appdata\temp\
The corporate workaround to your issue is relatively simple.  Your user account needs to be granted the privilege to be able to create and own the workspace folder in the above location.  If this is not feasible then you could always just copy the entire contents of "C:\ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\Adobe\Adobe Captivate Reviewer <X>*" to a location on your machine where you have full access, i.e. your desktop.
Ultimately Adobe development need to update the code in Adobe Air.dll to create the workspace in a temporary folder that conforms to industry standards

  • Firefox won't load .mov files online but plays them locally: QT problem?

My website has several pages with embedded .mov files, which used to play perfectly well, but now only give a question mark after the progress bar fills up.
For example, one of these pages is http://www.paulozelinsky.com/shivers-animation2a.html
Firefox can open this and similar pages that are stored in my computer (on a mirror of the site) and view the animations normally. But online it doesn't work. Typing the path to the online animation file into Firefox's URL field also produces an empty QuickTime window with a question mark, so it's not a matter of the page code.
Is it possible that QuickTime's plugin isn't compatible with Firefox, at least for .mov files like mine? (Created with After Effects 7, using Sorensen 3 codec). Does Firefox use plugins in the same way for playing a file on a web server as playing it in a local folder? Or could there be something going on with my web host?
I would at least like to know if this failure to load the animation is the same for other Mac Firefox users. I have heard that the animation does load, though slowly, for at least one PC Firefox user.
When I first noticed the change, the problem was occurring in Safari as well as Firefox, but now it is only in Firefox.
    I have Firefox 3.6.8, and in HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins I have QuickTime Plugin.plugin v. 7.6.6. I also see in there something called nsIQTScriptablePlugin.xpt.

Bump, bump. Please can anybody help?

  • Safari won't load XML file - Flash

I know this is in the wrong forum, so if someone can move it, thanks!
The Safari section is down, error loading page.
    Here's my problem.
Got a website that is full flash, and some flash that is used on a html based page.
It's a counter, that counts down to a specific date. And these dates are stored in an xml file.
Safari has for some reason massive trouble loading the XML file, and therefore undefines the fields all the time. Occasionally it works, but more often than not it just says 'Undefined'. It works perfectly in IE, and in FF.
In Flash, the XML file is loaded, and its parsed correctly, the actionscript is spot on. So I can't figure the problem.
It's happening on Multiple mac's, and occasionally on Safari for Windows.

    Thanks in advance.

Safari on my computer doesn't seem to have a problem loading it. You may want to try resetting Safari. Go up to the Menu Bar and click on Safari. There's a choice in the drop down menu called "Reset Safari..." Click on it and select the choices you want to make, after that click ok.

  • Help!  Illustrator won't open any files

    Hi
Illustrator cs4 will no longer open any of my .ai files.   I keep getting the message 'can't open the illustration'  with no further error message.
The only thing that i have done that i could think would affect it is i have just installed the trial version of indesign cs5.  Does anyone have any ideas what is going on?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Tara

Try clearing your Illustrator preferences. They are located in at:
    WinXP: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS4 Settings
    Mac: User/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS4 Settings
Application Data folder on Win and Library folder on Mac might be hidden. So you need to set the folder options appropriately.
Just delete the whole folder for AI CS4 settings an now try opening your files. (Prefs folder will again be created when you launch and quit AI.)

  • Illustrator won't open .AI files after upgrade to CS6, but can open them in Fireworks

Cannot open .AI files, I have run all the updates but still having to use Fireworks to open AI files.

Same problem as this thread? Illustrator doesn't allow setting of file associations using windows, the way every other problem does...  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1254448

  • Illustrator won't open a file after a previous file was closed

First of all, I've been using Illustrator since it first came out (87? 88?) but in all those years, have never encountered the following problem:
After opening and closing an Illustrator file, I can not open any other Illustrator file without quitting the Illustrator app. I get no error messages, the program does not lock up or crash, it simply does nothing. It does not matter if the file I am opening (or the file just worked on) is a newly created one, or an older file, complicated or simple file, 1-color or multi. In other words, it does not seem to be related to the files.
The only way to open a new file after closing a previous file is to QUIT the Illustrator application.
In the old days, if an oddity would occur, deleting the app's pref file usually worked, though it's been years since I've had to do this. Is deleting the pref file still safe/recommended?
    Here are some specs:
    What I've tried:
    Cleared font cache
    Repaired disk permissions
Run diagnostics (all clean as a whistle)
    System and app specs:
2.66 ghz Intel iMac OS 10.6.8, 4 gig ram
    Illustrator CS5 15.0.2
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you so much in advance...
    Susan

Deleting the prefs is safe, worst that can happen is the setting for scale strokes and effects might get reset.
    Reset your preferences.
Cmd-Opt-Ctrl-Shift when restarting AI on a Mac.
Have you tried all the different methods for opening a files, drag and drop to AI  on dock, open command.

  • Imovie won't load project file after crash

    Hi All,
I was almost done with an iMovie project, and while I watching the preview, iMovie crashed.
After I opened iMovie again, the project was there anymore. I can see all other projects but the project I want, the one I was working on when it crashed.
I checked the forum for similar problems but no solution worked so far. The file is in the Projects Folder, I can even see the preview a thumbnail of the project.
Here is what I tried so far:
    deleting com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
    deleting com.apple.iApps.plist
Moving file to a different location
    Renaming the file
clicking twice on the file to open
Transfered the file to another Mac (with event files)
Deleted iMovie and reinstalled from AppStore
    rebooted many times
None of this worked so far. The file is there, 13MB, but nothing seems to recognize the file into iMovie.
Mountain Lion latest version. iMovie 11 latest version.
Please help, a load of work was put into this and I need to finish the movie by Thursday.
    All help appreciate it.

There are a number of others here having the same problem (including me), where the project appears in Finder in the iMovie Projects folder but is not listed in the Project Library in iMovie. The project just seems to disappear from the Library.
Here is a link to a recent topic. It includes a post by me where I've provided links to other topics regarding this issue.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/21296973?ac_cid=tw123456#21296973
You've given an excellent summary of things you've tried. I've also tried most of those, but haven't as yet reinstalled iMovie. As I have Final Cut Pro X, I also attempted to open the project file in that app with no success. FCP X crashed just after loading, after I had selected from the menu - File > Import > iMovie Project.
You can submit feedback to Apple - from iMovie's Menu select iMovie > Provide iMovie Feedback.
Sorry I can't help you solve this.
    John
