Illustratro CS 5.1 snap issues

Out of the blue now, Illustrator is driving me nuts.
I am trying to create a rectangle in an existing Illustrator drawing and rotate it into place.
I draw the rectangle and then click on the "election" arrow to rotate the rectangle to the angle I need. However, as soon as I click on the selection arrow, a bounding box that includes the rectangle and a significant area outside the rectangle is selected. This causes a problem because the rectangle is not the size I need and when I try to rotate and strectch it to fit the area I want, the handles encompass and area much larger and rather than being able to just drag the handles to the size I want, I must play around with them to try to get them to fit.
I've searched a number of different forums and this appears to be an on-going problem. A number of people said to turn offf snap to grid, snap top point, smart guides, etc. All of these are turned off, but Illustrator continually insists on drawing the recatangle at the initial size I want, but then encompassing a much larger area outside the actual rectangle. Someon suggested going to the Transform menu and turning off an element there, but I wasn't able to find that specific element (perhaps a newer of older version of Illustrator). Someone else said to else suggested going to the align menu and making a change there. Again, my align menu doesn't provide the option that was suggested. I have tried everything I can think of and am getting incredibly irritated.

When I draw the rectangle it looks the way I expected it to. However, as soon as I pcik the selection arrow, I get the huge bounding box that has no correlation to the rectanlge I drew.
I even treid drawing the rectangle off the artboard and moving it into place, but the same thing happens, wherever I draw the rectangle.
I had preivously been using Illustrator CS3 and NEVER had this issue. Only in Illustrator CS 5.1.
I'm ready to dump CS 5.1 and go back to CS 3 - since it works as expected.
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

This drawing is from an AutoCad file so there are a lot of layers. I did try to create a blank layer and draw the rectangle on it, but same result.
That said, the vast majority of my files are from AutoCad and I've never had this issue previously, i.e. the past 10-12 years.

Strange snapping issue

Last week the software updater installed a FCP update (6.0.2), and now I'm having a wierd issue, where the snapping function (n) automatically and arbitrarily switches on.
Not a critical issue, but entirely annoying. While snapping is useful sometimes, it's nice to be able to control it. Anyone else had this issue or know how to fix? Tech support has no idea, of course - the same folks who maintain that FCP has been completely de-bugged...

According to the release notes, the auto-snapping feature was enabled primarily for conducting shuffle edits.
From the Release Notes:
Shuffle (or “swap”) edits are performed by dragging a clip over an adjacent clip and then holding down the Option key. (For more information, see page 194 in Volume II of the Final Cut Pro User 6 Manual.) In Final Cut Pro 6.0.2, holding down Option after you begin dragging a clip temporarily enables snapping, regardless of whether snapping was turned on when you began dragging the clip. You can temporarily turn on or turn off snapping while you drag the clip by pressing the N key. After you release the mouse button, the snapping mode returns to however it was set before you began dragging the clip.

Fireworks 8 exact to adaptive snap issue

Does anyone know why when saving out gifs as exact that when
displayed in the optimize panel at less then 256 colors it snaps
back to the adaptive setting this is driving me crazy. I am not the
only one in my office having the problem. I have done searches and
no answers.

Thanks for the tip, but I've checked and that option is not
ticked. I did a little bit more investigation, and it seems the
problems appears when using text with a drop shadow. Here is what I
did:
0. Make sure 'snap to web safe' is off.
1. Create a 100 x 100 pixel box.
2. Apply rounding of 30
3. Give the box a 2 pixel stroke, orange (#D98E29)
4. Fill with a vertical gradient . (From ##ECC694 to #E1A758)
5. Use the right click menu to "Insert a rectangular slice
6. Open the optimise panel.
7. Choose Gif, Choose Exact.
8. Click the Preview tab. Wow it looks great. No banding.
Using 152 colours.
Part 2, Add some text.
9. Use the type tool to add some text. orange (#D98E29)
10. Click preview, Great, no banding - using 175 colours.
Part 3, Add a drop shadow.
11. Use the Filters dropdown in the properties panel to add
the default drop shadow (7px offset, 65% opacity, 4px blur, #000)
12. Click preview. Oh oh. lots of banding, using 114 colours
and 'Exact' has reverted to Web Adaptive.
If I choose Exact again, Fireworks changes it back to Web
Adaptive.
Part 4. Export with ImageReady.
13. Open Fireworks PNG with ImageReady.
14. Open the Optimize panel
15. Choose Gif. Leave other settings at defaults. Reduction:
Selective, Color: 256, Web Snap: 0%, Dither, Method: Diffusion.
16. Click the Optimized tab. Wow, no banding, looks great,
using 256 colours.
17. Choose File, Save as Optimized, and open in Safari. Geez,
it still looks great.
So it seems that ImageReady is able to export to 256 colours
when multiple color ranges are used (Orange to light orange in the
gradient and Orange to dark orange for the drop shadow), while
Firework is not. able to do the same.
The thing is that I never had this problem with exporting
when I was using the previous version of Fireworks (MX or 7?)
I have filled a bug with Macromedia. (again)

Ix500 scan snap issues with connectivity

i recently purchase a scan snap ix500 scanner. it will not make the connection through the usb
anyone have similare issues.

Could any of you find a solution to this?
My Scan Snap IX500 was working last week. No problem at all. I've the same issue.
The System Profiler shows that it ain't connected via USB High-Speed Bus. Pretty strange as it did work like a charm.

Drag and drop snapping issue

I have a symbol that i want to "snap" into place on a target
everything works well but the snapping just kinda hangs out in the general area

I have an applet in a webpage that will accept drag
and drops, however, if a user mistakingly drops into
the browser page and not the applet, the drop is
consumed, which is bad especially if you want an
action to occur whenever a drop happens...
:(Okay, but the applet provides a target area. So how is it any different from dropping said content on any other app that's in a background window? Make sure the drop area is visually obvious.
Of course, if Firefox is taking this to be a file to show and then unloading the applet, that is not ideal. But I personally would not worry about such a thing happening that I felt a need to jump thru hoops to find a solution.
In my opinion this would be a Firefox bug, but was
wondering if there is a Java workaround. I guess I
could tell people to just use IE.....You could restrict to IE other ways too, but I really don't see the point. I don't know any other way to change the type except what you already posted. FireFox does support running Java from within Javascript, so this might be a side effect of that.

Weird snapping issues with objects in Ai CS5...

For some reason, when I want to adjust a vectored object (expanded as well), is will only snaop to certain places.
• Smart Guides is not engaged.
• NONE of the perspective grid is activated.
• NONE of the snap-to's are activated.
But for the life of me, things keep snapping to some weird invisible point.
Also, some overlapping objects, when I use the divide pathfinder tool, they divide all wonky.
ANYBODY? I'm dying, here!

Was the original from a Web new document profile? If so, turn off Align to Pixel Grid in the Transform panel.

Aw Snap!

I am using a mac laptop. It is seven and a half years old.
When I am on Facebook and Words the mac seems to freeze a lot.
I often get a message Aw Snap! while playing Words.
The mac is also running very slow.
I use a router. We have 2 laptops, an Ipod, and an android phone.
Can someone help me with the slow running system and the Aw Snap issue. Could this be some type of virus?

The forum in which you posted your question is for problems/questions related to Numbers, Apple's spreadsheet application. You probably won't get a lot of help for a Facebook or Words with Friends question here. But, from searching on the Internet, "Aw Snap" is an error message from the Chrome browser. If you are using Chrome, that might be the source of the message. A forum dedicated to Chrome or one related to your hardware (not the Numbers app) might be a better place to look for an answer.

Mixed Signal Graph, Selected Cursors, and Cursor Position Problems

I'm trying to work around an issue with a single multiplot cursor on a mixed-signal graph (doesn't work right, R&D bug report #100830) by grabbing the selected cursor x-position and updating that position across all four cursors, as seen below:
However, I'm having two problems.
One, the selected cursor is not always the actual selected cursor. Quite often, especially when selecting and dragging cursors 3 & 4 (indexed 2 & 3), the selected cursor shows up as 0 or 1.
Two, and the one I'm more concerned about, is the fact that the four cursors X-positions never completely line up. In every case, whichever cursor is deemed to be "selected", the other three will align to some point (the same for all three) that is offset from the actual value. Please note that the X-values in my demonstration are identical (1000 points from 0.001 to 1) so I don't see this as being some snap issue where the value is offsetting to the closest available on the other arrays.
I've attached my scratchpad demo.vi as an illustration.
Any help or insight is appreciated.

I believe I found where the issue resides at least and a workaround. This is a problem with XY graphs in general when trying to programmatically control the cursor position. Somehow, the software goes looking for the nearest point instead of the identical point and has some sort of issue with its search algorithm. Switching from attempting to match position to copying the cursor 'index' completely cleared up the problem I was having. In the particular application I'm working on, the four graphs have identically spaced data on the X-axis, so this solution should work fine for me.

This will be used now and going forward whenever you need to sequence a new version of Chrome. You will just need to change the version number to match that of the version of Google Chrome Enterprise you download.
Note: This script assumes that you have a master_preferences and
First Run file you are using, which you will copy into the
C:\Temp directory on your sequencer.
Also, normally I install into a dummy PVAD, but for Chrome I install into the PVAD:

Do not run the application during sequencing, you want it to stream fault. I also checked all three Advanced options (on the Advanced tab).

Chrome 37 has issues with app-v 4.6 SP3. You can actually get it to work for the most part by adding the following switch to the shortcut when sequencing:
--disable-direct-write
This will get rid of the whole Ah Snap issue for every web page. There is another issue for App-V 4.6 though, printing from within Chrome will not work. This actually isn't an App-V issue though, it is a Chrome sandbox issue that basically causes any
computer that has the %TMP% not on the same drive that Chrome is run from to be unable to print. Since any version of App-V below 5 requires you to run the apps from the virtual mount i.e. the Q drive, obviously Chrome will be launched from a different
drive than %TMP% is on, thus causing the issue of being unable to print. That is, without using the --no-sandbox switch, but that really isn't an acceptable solution.

Can't position illustrator shape precisely.

Am trying to position a shape precisely at position zero on the canvas. I enter "0" in the x-position field, and Illustrator jumps it to -.5 pixel location. It won't even let me manually position it at zero - jumps it to + or - .5 pixel point. Don't believe this is a "snapping" issue. It feels like the doc. has it's own grid that isn't necessarily alligned to the ruler readings, and the doc is alligning objects to the nearest pixel point.
I need to be able to position items precisely to the last pixel. How can I make this happen? Help!

It wasn't that I couldn't calculate or account for the stroke. Illustrator simply wouldn't let me place the object where I knew I wanted to. Obviously, I have to be able to use my x and y data field to precisely position my objects sometimes. Seems like those fields are based on the ruler and NOT the pixel grid. Guess I'll just leave pixel grid align off at all times. And, yes, then I will always position strokes outside or inside.

Pathfinder Problems after Illustrator CC update

Is anyone else having problems with the pathfinder tools after updating to the latest verstion of CC? I can't seem to unite, divide, or trim paths with the usually predictable results. Any advice? Is there a way to turn live corners off?

Problem solved... (Pilot Error). I was working on an artboard that was way too small 145px x 145px and was getting some funky snapping issues after dividing paths. I brought everything back up to a reasonable working size and all is well. Too many hours behind the screen today.

Logic Pro x on McBookPro 2.2Ghz i7 /Yosemite 10.10.3 / Logic Pro x?

Anyone had problems with MacBookPro 15" 2.2Ghz i7 running Yosemite 10.10.3 with Logic Pro x, we just jumped straight in from 10.6.8 as a Focusrite 2i4 would not work with it! As the update was free from Apple it was thought all would be fine. We have since read the forums, we have not purchased Logic Pro x yet and have just installed Ableton lite. Any advice if we should purchase Logic Pro x?

I was using 10.9.2 and LPX 10.0.6 on a new Mac Pro extensively, two weekends ago, without any issues of note specific to the Mac Pro....
All audio working fine with a Motu Ultralite Mk3.. connected via FW to TBolt adaptor...
No tempo issues at all... and I do a lot of work using the global tempo tracks...
Never had the midi transpose setting issue except when importing older LP9 projects. Never with new projects.
The snap issue, while I dont seem to be affected by it.. maybe because of my particular work flow.. it is something that others have reported on a variety of different Macs...
So, my guess is its not something to do with your Mac Pro itself but something to do with the installation of OS X and Logic / audio / midi devices and drivers in some way...

Just made the big step up from CS2 to CS5. Lots of changes as to be expected but otherwise a smooth transition. Nice work Adobe.
One recurring issue has got me baffled and annoyed. It appears to be a snap-to function yet I'm unable to locate the place where it might be disabled.
In my previous version of InDesign resizing window sizes and shapes was a fluid and easy motion. Now it's staggering and akward. The text and picture boxes want to snap on an unseen grid. I understand how this can be a useful function for some kinds of work but it also gets in the way of composing an image.
Any suggestions on how to disable this?
Presently, I have both Smart Guides and Snap to Document Grid UNCHECKED in the View menu yet I'm remain unable to smoothly and fluidly size my text and picture boxes.

There's another new feature, Live Screen Drawing, that's on by default, but for many users it causes real choppiness in moving around on screen. It's at the bottom of the Interface section of the preferences. Try setting it to Delayed. That will allow you to have a live preview when you really want it by clicking, then holding for a moment before you drag, but moving immediately will give you what you are used to in CS2.
I actually think Smart Guides are worth using. They save me a TON of time.

Happy to report that iTunes Match has returned to working like normal on iTunes 10.7 on my computer today. If any iTunes engineers read this thread, I really appreciate the fix.

Serious Issues in Illustrator CS6, Expand and Snapping problems

Hi, my friends and fellow vector fanatics, we all love Adobe Illustrator and we like to work with this tool, and being a user since version CS3 I really like the new look and feel of CS6 however I noticed some issues when I am doing the following:
when I use pathfinder to expand objects they look weird like in this photo
you can notice the change in the r and also the a they changed shape
this is completly un acceptable, since the design has to be very precise
second issue is when I am trying to move an object it snaps to something I don't know if its a grid or not and I have checked off snapping to grid but still all objects snaps.
please I am eager to solve these problems and I am looking forward for your help.

Just thought id add this also to the forum just incase you dont want to keep going back and unticking the Align to Pixel Grid option box. If you want it off completely, then go to the small arrow (far right of the transform palette) and turn off Align New Objects To Pixel Grid. Then things wont snap everytime you create a new shape or add guides etc..hope that helps vector buddies
