Illy takes 35 mins to save file

I am having problems saving my Illy file. I have been trouble shooting this for a while, so far I have deleted my prefs folder, and switched printers to Adobe PDF and switched computers, from work to home computer.
I set up my Illy file to save as a test, went on adobe to look for more info about this problem and 35 mins later my file has saved. Is this normal? What could be causing it to save sooooo slow? I have many of layers... could that be the reason? Is there a way to merge objects together like in PS with out rasterizing and losing quality of lines? I am not sure where to go at the moment with this problem and waiting 35 mins to save is not very productive.
Help please.
Thank you,
Cherie

I will look into and learn to use pathfinder. Thank you =)
I am using Illustrator CS3 on WinXP. This particular file is 3.2 MB another file I am having the same problem with is 4.8 MB. I have 130 GB of free space on my hard drive and I am working with 2.00 GB of RAM.
The files that I am working with do not have any rasterized components it is all Vector at the moment. I need to keep them vector in the pre-visualization stages of this project so I can make changes easily, unless there is a way to change the paths/colors after they are rasterized but also keeping the line quality.
The 4.8 MB file has maybe 2 gradients, most of the file has transparent layers but no effects.
The 3.2 MB file has no gradients, many layers, and some blending effects and transparencies.
Both files do not have any meshes.
Thank you,
Cherie

    That sounds like a pretty big document considering all the layers.  What's the nature of all those layers?  Pixel data edge to edge, or some vector data, some adjustment layers, a mix?  Do the layers have masks?
    I was curious, so I timed the saving of a very large image I have on hand, with 32009 x 21000 pixels, 16 bits/channel, 42 layers, some pixels, some adjustment layers, most layers with masks.  I have "Maximize Compatibility" set to "Never" and I enabled Flate compression.  The save was to a high bandwidth SSD array, and like you I have Windows 7 x64.
    The save went like this:
    It started at 0%
    Jumped to 25% at 8 seconds into the save.
    26% at 0:35
    27% at 1:30
    28% at 3:15
    etc. at long intervals.  The file psA3B2.tmp grew incrementally all during that time.
    It seemed to stop at 73% for a few minutes.
    The save completed in 22 minutes 10 seconds and the .psb file was ultimately 6.6 GB in size.
    Since I have Background saving enabled in Photoshop CS6 I was able to interact with Photoshop and could potentially have been continuing editing during that time.  Also I had no problem doing other things, like type up this message, chat on Skype, etc.
    I have 48GB of RAM and actual usage rose to 43.4 GB.  Photoshop created a 58GB scratch file.
    It busied one logical processor (of 24) pretty much to the max the entire time (showing a total of 4% usage).  As I understand it data compression is not something easily multi-threaded (though I wonder whether it could be done by multiple threads on a layer by layer basis).  Your core speed is faster than mine with that i7-3770K processor (as compared to my Xeon X5690 CPUs), and who knows how different our documents are, but I'd say your system did rather well given that you have compression enabled.
    The real workaround that could make it more usable for you is what Chris said above - for a document at this magnitude in size, disable the Flate compression and it will get right to the task of saving to disk.  And yes, it will make the file HUGE - so you trade size for speed.
    As a test I disabled compression and saved again.  This time the save completed in 1 minute 29 seconds and the .psb file ended up being 36.5 GB in size.

  • Take screenshot and saves the image to a PNG file

    Hello,
    How can I take screenshot and save the image to a PNG file?
    thanks,
    Avivit.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    this is a quite reproducible problem. Some more clarification on my part might help:
    I have a loop that contains, among other this, (1) a sub-VI that prints-screen and saves as a png and (2) a sub-VI that emails me the png file as an attachment. The 1st sub-VI simply uses the user32.dll to simulate a print-screen key stroke, calls clipbpard get image, and then formats and saves the image to a png file using the built-in VI write-to-png. This loop should update this same png file, because the path does not change. However, I've noticed that while the loop is running the png file does not update. It simply keeps sending the 1st image it took. The image updates if the VI stops and is run again. I assumed the problem was either with the clipboard not updating or the file not writing.
    I think the png file remains open while the main VI (i.e. this loop) runs because I cannot delete the file while the VI is running, only once it stops or is quit. Windows gives me an error that the file is currently in use by labview. Therefore, I think the file is not updated because it remains open.
    I've attached the print screen VI. Feel free to stick it in a loop and give it a try if you don't spot something obviously wrong. I did not include the main-VI that I actually use since it contains a lot of instrument I/O, which would prevent someone testing the VI.

    What Steps do I take to edit raw files and save for web use, such as Instagram, Facebook, Websites, and emailing?

    When you open a raw file it will open in Adobe camera raw. That is where you can do most of the editing. Then it will be placed inside Photoshop where you can do more if needed.
    Now you can use the save for web dialog to export your image as a png or jpg to use on those sites.

  • Since upgrading to Lion, i am unable to take screen shots.  i get the message that i don't have permission to save files to the place where SSs are saved.  how can i regain the ability to save screen shots?  thanks

    since upgrading to Lion, i am unable to take screen shots.  i get the message that i don't have permission to save files to the place where SSs are saved.  how can i regain the ability to save screen shots?  thanks

    First of all, are you using the OS native screen capture?
    If not, make sure the application you're using has been update for Lion.  I was using Snapz Pro for years, but I need to update it for use with Lion. Meanwhile Grab and the keyboard shortcuts are working on my Lion load.
    If you are using the native capture mode unsuccessfully, I would run the Disk Utility and repair permissions on the drive. For some reason, even in past OS Versions, routine maintenance of permissions makes life a lot easier.

  • Can't save files back to iPhoto after editing in Photoshop Elements

    Hi
    I am tring to edit pictures in Photoshop Elements 2.0. Here are the Steps i am doing
    1. Open iPhoto 6.0.4
    2. Go to the picture in the slideshow that i am trying to edit
    3. Double click the picture to open in an external editor (Photoshop Elements 2.0)
    4. Make my changes in PS
    5. Try to save file. Save as a JPG I am trying to replace the original file (it is in the modifiled folder)
    -- here is the problem
    Can not replace the file--I get the message, "you do not have the right privileges."
    So I check the permissions on the file. The original jpg file is a read only file, so I change it.
    However I get the same error message.
    I don't understand. Any help would be greatly appriceated. This is taking all the fun out of editing my images.
    Thanks for your help.

    ccorbly:
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. By your statement I take it you've setup PSE in iPhoto's preferences as the editor of choice when you double click on a thumbnail, right? That's how it should be.
    iPhoto puts the edited version of the file in a separate folder titled Modified. So you don't want to try to force save to the same location as the original file. If you opened the file in PSE as you've stated (this indicated that you've set up iPhoto's preferences to use PSE when you double click on a thumbnail or photo) all you have to do is do a Save as long as the extension has not been changed to .psd. If PSE wants to use that extension then you need to either do a Save As to the desktop and import the new .psd file
    OR f
    1 - flatten the image
    2 - do a normal Save
    3 - in the next window select jpg
    4 - hit Save
    5 - select Replace.
    6 - select quality and the format options and hit the OK button.
    If you look close you'll see that you're in the Modified folder of the Library and not the Originals folder.
    Now if that's what you're doing and you still get the permissions thing, try the following: download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
    Do you Twango?

  • I can't save files to my desktop, but I can save anywhere else. How do I fix this?

    I can't save files to my desktop.  I have no problem saving the same file anywhere else.  WHen I try through excel, for example, it tells me the file is read only. When I try to save it as a different file name, a pop up tells me I do not have permission to save to the desktop.  The same issue occurs when I attempt to take a screen shot (default save to desktop)

    Click on it, choose Get Info from the File menu, give yourself Read & Write access under Sharing and Permissions or Ownership and Permissions, and ensure it's not locked.

  • Re Time Machine "You do not have appropriate access privileges to save file ".002332b7be8a" warning preventing backups--this may help temporarily

    My TM is often giving me the "You do not have appropriate access privileges to save file “.002332b7be8a” in folder “Time Machine Backups”" message when I go to select my backup drive. I've reviewed past archived discussions on this and, like many other people, gotten completely flummoxed trying to find a permanent solution.  Tried the suggested fixes via Terminal and it didn't help because I couldn't get through the entire process without Terminal telling me it couldn't find a file or drive.  When I can find the time, I'm going to try Tinker Tool to reveal where that numbered file actually is and give it another go.
    In the meantime, for those who are desperate to get their TM working again to get at least one backup done, I can offer people a temporary solution that's worked for me.
    I've found that restarting my iMac somehow resets TM and usually allows it to do at least one of its automatic backups, sometimes several, before it reverts back to failing and producing that same darn warning message.  I only want a backup done once a day, so it's not that inconvenient to go this route.
    There's another even quicker  method (perhaps a little more risky but hasn't been a problem for me yet) that I've been using more recently, and that is to simply unplug the external while the iMac is on (I close system preferences first though, and make sure TM isn't actually doing anything at the time) then plugging it back in and choosing the backup drive again in the TM system preferences window once that drive has shown up again in the Mac's list of devices.  I don't get that warning message when I do this.  It works every time for me and so far it hasn't lost or corrupted any data on the external, despite the warning message you get on Macs when you unplug a USB device without ejecting it first.  However, do this at your own risk--don't flame me if it backfires on you.  If you're of the opinion that it's not wise to unplug the device this way, then fine, go ahead and state such in this thread, but be polite about it.
    Hope this helps anyone who's frantic to make a backup without having to start from square one with a whole new complete initial backup (can take many hours to make one) on a fresh external drive.
    By the way, I've read somewhere that this problem was fixed with Snow Leopard.  Whether that's true is another matter.  I'm not quite ready to update to 10.6 for other reasons, even though I bought it, and I figure some other people are also still using 10.5.8 out of fear and loathing around the unknowns of installing a new OS too, so that's why I thought I'd post this message (couldn't find a discussion around this that was still active and not archived).

    Wow, I haven't seen that in a looooong time!

    Do you mean in #C5 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting?

    It should be at the top level of the drive.

    Yes.  I'm not sure if it was 10.6.0 or one of the early updates, but I haven't seen any reports of this in quite a while.

  • Download pdf = how to open and not save file

    hi
    in my app i have to download a file. at the beginning the file is called with blazeds as a ByteArray.
    var saveReference:FileReference = new FileReference();
    saveReference.save(pdfByteArray, 'Report.pdf');
    i like to open an application associated on the Operation System when the user download the file. eg download the report.pdf => the pdf reader opens.
    i tried hard but could not find a way to force this, in my app the save file dialog opens.
    the only report similar to mine i could find:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/569350/flex-filereference-download-is-it-possible-to-op en-associated-application/569596
    maybe you could help me. thanks
    joe

    Don't think it's possible, due to security reasons (instantly being able to run a downloaded file spells out massive problems).
    there is a topic here:
    http://www.justskins.com/forums/download-file-open-pdf-from-flex-ui-87457.html
    which seems similar to yours.
    As they say in that topic though, you could just have a link that opens a new window to the PDF.

  • I had a windows laptop, and I save files like photos, documents, videos and other things on an external hard drive, and now I want to move those files to the Mac book Pro, and then move those files again to another external hard drive 1T. My question is:

    I had a windows laptop, and I save files like photos,documents, videos and other things on an external hard drive, and now I want tomove those files to the Mac book Pro, and then move those files again toanother external hard drive 1T. My question is: Is it possible? Doing this willnot affect the files that I had in windows? No information is lost? or how cani do it?

    Connect the external drive to your Mac and drag the files from it to your Mac's internal drive. Then dismount and disconnect the external drive, connect the 1TB external drive, and drag the files from the internal drive onto the external. Nothing will have been deleted from any of the drives up to this point; the files will only have been copied. Verify that the files are readable. There's no reason they shouldn't be; this is just a precaution.
    Now if you wish to delete the files from any of the drives, drag them to the Trash, and Empty the Trash while the drive from which they came is still connected. If you disconnect the drive before emptying the Trash, the files you were trying to remove from it won't be deleted. They'll remain in the Trash and continue to take up space on the drive.
    Note that if your external drives are in NTFS format, you won't be able to write anything to them or delete anything from them, though you will be able to read and copy the files they contain. The NTFS disk format is read-only to the Mac OS, unless you have a third-party NTFS driver installed. To make your drives cross-platform readable and writable, you must reformat them in the FAT32 or ExFAT format.

  • Take an existing text file and modify values

    I’m looking to take an existing text file and modify certain values inside of it. Then save it to a new file, with all the same formatting as the original. The file format is not uniform and can change.
    Basically the file is:
    Random numbers and letters of unknown length for an unknown number of lines.
    Label="Test_#"
    Description
    String
    X=123
    Y=456
    Z=-789
    20 lines of strings with numbers in them
    Label="Test_#2"
    Description
    String
    X=-1232
    Y=4562
    Z=7892
    Then it repeats a set number of times.
    I want to modify the X Y and Z = values for each Test_#.
    I’ve managed to import the important values into a numeric array and I have a different array with values that will replace the existing ones. I’m having troubles replacing the existing ones. There are no zeros before or after the existing numbers so they are all different lengths.
    If anyone has any sample code that does anything similar please post it. I’m sure someone has done something like this in the past.

    I just thought I would throw this out there.  Can you make the .txt file tokenized?  This would make searching for specific parameters much easier.

  • Save File dialog from dll is not appearing to the front of TestStand window

    Hi all,
    I am calling a C#.net dll from a step in TestStand sequence. A function is called which pops up a Save File dialog. This Save File dialog is appearing only behind other windows. There is an overload for the showDialog function that takes the owner form as argument. My dll doesnot have a form. I would like to know how can I pass the TestStand form as owner to this Save File dialog object.
    Thanks in advance

    Biju,
    You can build create the implement the IWin32Window interface and get the handle of TestStand window. I have created an example you can check out.

  • How can I save file as other format?

    I want to create file and save file as others Vetor format,such as Dwg,dxf,ai and i can open it in AutoCad as well as Illustrator.How can i do it ??
    Thanks in advance!

    every file format has its own format, I mean by format is really "format".
    any characteristic has its own specific place in a special format.
    you can make your own file format, so you will keep your information in a special part of file and so and so.
    And when you want to retrieve your informtion you know where and how you are able to do it.
    Now if you want to use somebody else's format like "DXF" you need to somehow find out what is the format of that particular file, so if you through your application have provided the same type of information and save them in the same manner, your file will become the same format that you wanted to be.
    I invite you take a look at the following address on web:
