%ILPOWER-3-CONTROLLER_PORT_ERR: on 3750x POE

Hi,
can someone explain me what does it means? on my 3750x is a continuous log like this
Nov 24 13:19:36: %ILPOWER-3-CONTROLLER_PORT_ERR: Controller port error, Interface Gi1/0/26: Power Controller reports power Tstart error detected
and with this command i saw this:
#show power inline
Gi1/0/26     auto     faulty     0.0 n/a n/a     30.0
how can i fix this?, and what is the problem?

Thank you for the answer
i found the problem. Yesterday after the post
i had disabled the electrical supply on the port
Gi1/0/26 auto off 0.0 n/a n/a 30.0
And i had received a:
%SPANTREE-2-BLOCK_BPDUGUARD: Received BPDU on port Gi1/0/26 with BPDU Guard enabled. Disabling port.
Nov 24 14:00:50: %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: bpduguard error detected on Gi1/0/26, putting Gi1/0/26 in err-disable state
After this i went on the interested area
The user make a loop with the rj45 outline of the ip/phone on another point of connection.
Users can be very dangerous! :D
Only for the case study i have test the cable like you had required:
Interface Speed Local pair Pair length        Remote pair Pair status
Gi1/0/26  100M  Pair A     N/A                Pair B      Normal

                             Pair D     N/A                Pair C      Normal
now all it's ok

Jun  9 13:39:51.152: %ILPOWER-3-CONTROLLER_PORT_ERR: Controller port error, Interface Gi1/0/6: Power Controller reports Short detected
the problem is this port is connected to a UPS network management card, so this port should not be trying to engage PoE at all on this port. I turned off PoE on this port manually and this message stopped. is this possibly an issue with the switch hardware or do you think it might be more or a software bug?

i swapped out the cable and set the port back to auto for PoE. i have not received that error since the cable swap, however after reissuing the command i get the same output

  • POE controller on 3560

I have a remote 3560X switch which has produced the following error messages. Nothing is connected to port 22, none of the other devices require POE from the switch. I have never seen an error message like this before.
    1.  What is the IOS version you are using?
    2.  Have you tried erasing the configuration of both ports and determine if the error message returns?
    3.  Post the output to the command "sh power inline".
    4.  Have you tried to "shut/no shutdown" the port?
    5.  Have you tried to reboot the switch?

  • Lightning strikes fry PoE modules?

I have several production facilities that I oversee. One Friday one of these facilities had a series of thunderstorms during which roughly 20 IP phones quit working as well as the plants internet connection. The ports where my IP phones are connected were reporting:
"Apr 17 09:20:47.968 CST: %ILPOWER-3-CONTROLLER_PORT_ERR: Controller port error, Interface Gi0/41: Power given, but Power Controller does not report Power Good"
We moved the phones to different ports and they were all working fine once moved. We tried resetting two of the switches and reconnecting phones to their original locations to no avail.
While the phones were connected if I did a "show power inline" those ports were showing faulty. This locations ASA also lost its internet connection due to a port getting shorted out as well.
My question is this, is it possible that there was a lightning strike to the plant that backfed surplus electricity through my ethernet network that would cause this action? All of the affected devices were connected to a UPS that was also doing power conditioning and surge suppression.

I checked the error message and most of the times resulted to be hardware failure.
So to me it feels "yes" lightening could have caused some issue
Please get the switch replaced if reload did not help.
    Hope this helps

    Hi All
I have a Cisco 3850 (running 03.02.02.SE software) connecting to a Cisco 1552E Access Point.
I'm running 90.2m CAT 5 Cable between the AP & the Switch.

Are you using PoE with power injector ???
    These are the option:
    Powering the Access Point
The access point can be powered by one of these methods:
•PoE—56 VDC; for 1552E and 1552EU access points
–Connecting a 1500 Series Power Injector
    •AC power
    –110 to 240 VAC for a 1552I access point—Connecting Streetlight AC Power
–110 to 480 VAC for 1552E and 1552EU access points—Connecting Streetlight AC Power
–120 VAC—Connecting an AC Power Cable to the Access Point
    •External 12 VDC
–Connecting a DC Power Cable to the Access Point
    •POC—40 to 90 VAC (Quasi-AC); only for a 1552C and 1552CU access points

    pre,
i don't think it's a cable issue. correction on the working AP, it's supposed to be a AIR-SAP1602E.
this AP is working on the 3650.
i've searched and i think the AIR-AP1231 isn't supported on this switch platform.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3650/software/release/3e/release_notes/OL3264701.html#18425
this new switch isn't friendly. first, i had the issue with PVLAN and now this :(

  • Can't write to flash1: in a 3 switch stack

I have a 3 switch stack at a remote office consisting of a 48 port 3750X, 24 port 3750X PoE, and a 48 port 3750v2.  Currently this stack is functioning normally and is running 12.2(55)SE3 (universal on the X's, ipservices on the 3750v2).  I want to upgrade to SE8 so that's 12.2(55)SE8 as I see in the release notes there are some vulnerabilities fixed in SSH.
For the life of me, I cannot copy the new file to flash1: which is the 24 port 3750X PoE.  This switch has 20 IP phones and 2 Cisco Access points on it and is vital to the branch office.  I have spare non poe switches but not spare poe switches (looking for approval), so go figure I am having the issue with the flash memory on this switch.
If I try to tftp the file c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE8.bin to flash1, I get Error opening flash1:/c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE8.bin (Bad file number).
I can get the file tftp'd to flash2 (the 48 port 3750X) fine, but if I try to copy it from flash2 to flash1, I get the same error (bad file number).
Cisco TAC reccomened format flash1: , so I tried that and get Error formatting flash1 (Device or resource busy).   OK so on my own I figure maybe its corrupt, lets run fsck /test flash1: and see.  NOPE can't run that either... Error fscking flash1: (Device or resource busy).   Ok now lets see if any other sessions are hung where something or someone has locked flash1... so I run systat and I am the only user on the switch stack.  Ok so no one else has a hung connection that may have had a write in process frozen.
So what should I do?  The uptime is 30 weeks, 23 hours, 3 minutes.  The last switch in the stack, the regular 3750v2 has an uptime of 15 weeks, 1 day, 20 hours, 28 minutes because it was added to the stack back then.
Anyway the network is fine and functioning... just looking to standardize all our 3750's to the 122-55.SE8 release because it is the one IOS that we've had the best luck with.

Well after a few days of SILENCE from Cisco TAC, they got back to me again and said to reseat the flash again!  I said tell me how to reseat the flash when it is soldered onto the motherboard of a 3750X switch?
So they responded with this and they are going to replace the switch:
The error message( Error opening flash1:/c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE8.bin (Bad file number)) indicates that the flash is not visible,
This issue can be solved by the following steps :
Reseat the flash if you cannot,
Format the flash if you cannot,
    Replace the device(hardware failure)
As I can see from this case that the device is unable to format the flash, the only way to solve the issue is to replace the switch 1,
I can tell you support has really gone downhilll.  So much that I am considering Extreme Networks, Arista and Broacade for an upcoming 10gbps switching project.  Another case we had with them was due to a random switch stack crash on 12.2.58SE2.  Well they had the entire show tech ouput and they still reccomended to move to 15.0.2SE4.  Well that was BAD advice.  When you have 6 3750V2's and 3 3750X's in one stack of 9, release 15 doesn't have enough memory to even run a console.  We had to break the stack and one by one go to 12.2.55SE8.  I don't know what Cisco is thinking.  How can they say oh run this release but then they see its a huge mixed breed stack with a large configuration and they don't take memory into consideration?  I even asked are you sure, and they said yes we assure you this release will solve your problems.
So between that bad advice and this bad advice, I am really discouraged at throwing more money into "SmartNet" contracts.

    Hi Leo
Thank you for your quick response but as I said before that Nortel IP phnoe has a designed fault in power module so it meant to fail and cisco switch generate syslog for this Power Controller reports power Imax error detected. Once we replace with new phone, the error disappear and works all fine.
Now the solution I am looking for this issue as follows:
While the faulty IP phone still pluged in and keep booting, the switch generate error log and our syslog server keep sending out email alert until one of our engineer log into switch and shut the port. Very often if this happen in weekend or at night then we get hundreds of email.
Therfore I think it would be nice if Cisco 3750 put this swithport into errdisable state but it's not happening.
    This is the output of errdisable;
    #sh errdisable detect

Another thing that this command "power inline port 2x-mode" is not available in our IOS, I am not sure how this command will help.
    Look forward for someone response.
    Thank you all.

  • C3750X get power supply errors

Hi, I got a problem with some phones connected to a C3750X-48PS. Phones are Polycom SoundPoint 560. Ports most critical: gig 1/0/9 & 1/0/31.
Actually, the C3750X belongs to a stack, with the IOS: 12.2(55)SE3.  The environment conditions: power supply working ok, temperature level: ok. (show env all). Physically the LEDs are in green, and the room does not have temperature issues.
Also, the phones present a humming noise (high pitch). The noise keeps happening even if the phones are plugged in other ports of a stack. It was attempted to connect the phones directly to the stack ports instead of the ports in the cubicules, and the issue keeps happening.
The Stack presents also sudden fan to spin up / spin down for a couple of minutes, and within a couple of minutes from working on and off.
Customer has another facility with the same switches but with IOS12.2(55)SE1, in there the same phones were tested and they are working fine.
A reboot was performed, but now the C3750X show these messages:
%ILPOWER-3-CONTROLLER_PORT_ERR: Controller port error, Interface Gi1/0/9: Power Controller reports power Tstart error detected
%ILPOWER-3-CONTROLLER_PORT_ERR: Controller port error, Interface Gi1/0/31: Power Controller reports power Tstart error detected
    Thanks!

I've found it!  In case anyone is wondering, a lot of server information is available by querying with the iLO xml tag "GET_EMBEDDED_HEALTH".
This returns, buried way down in the results, information about power supplies (section POWER_SUPPLIES).
While there doesn't seem to ask for just information on the power supplies, this works!

The Cisco 3850 reboot after a couple of hours in operations. This has happened after the switch IOS has been upgraded from 3.2.1 to 3.3.1 however the rest of the 3850 seems to be OK except this naught one.

    Thankx Rasikanayanajith,
I have downgraded the IOS from 03.03.01 to 03.02.03 and it has been running for 8+ hours straight now with no reboots since and seem very stable. There is load on the switch. However, I did get some error msg just recently (posted below):

  • Working out available power for phones

    Hi,
Is there some sort of rule of thumb to follow when working out how many phones you will be able to power on a switch? e.g If I have a stack of  4 x 3750X how do you work out available power for phones? Does it make a difference if the switches run dual PSU etc.. and is there a drop in the available power if a switch loses it's main power and depends on STACK power etc..
Any further info would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Brandon,
It was more of how to work out how much power I'd have available before I bought the switches, e.g If I was to buy 5 x 3750x POE, how much POE would be available.
I know how to view the available power on currently owned switches. It was really just to try and work out what I'd have "IF" I purchase this and that. This would then steer me in the direction of what I should buy if I have for example 300 7940G phones for example and 7 APs.
    Thanks

what is the chance of cisco 3750x 24 port poe switch failure? is backup necessary for this ? please answer me in details.

If you have a Cisco switch with, at least, one faulty port you RMA the appliance.
There is nothing more detailed than that.
