Im A beginner in need of very little help

I know this is a stupid question, but how do i get a html
document to associate with Dreamweaver when i right click on the
file and then click on edit. It used to open to dreamweaver, but
now it justs open into notepad.
Any info anyone can lend me would be much appreciated.

Should be working from within a Defined Site in dw anyway so
that paths will
come out right- If you define a "site" in dw for this
project, you could
open the file from Dw's Files Panel.
google how to set file associations for your OS.
Note- if your OS sets file associations by file extension
instead of by
individual file attributes, it may result in files you want
to open in a web
browser opening in Dw.

Needing Direction + a little help

I am trying to create my first simple web-service and have been trying to follow these two examples:

The first I managed to complete, running the Static Stub Client. It used javac and ws-compile and deploy tool. However following the authors instructions to copy the *.jar contents of J2EE_HOME\lib to the JRE ext directory all kinds of probelms occured when I tried repeating earlier steps, even just trying to compile simple java programs and eventually I could'nt get the Deafult domain to load.
I noticed the second tutorial uses the ant tool to deal with all the configuration, but so far I've found little explanation as to how to construct build.xml files and the necessary properties and target files which the build file uses to ensure all the paths and classpaths can be traversed and the tools invoked correctly.
At the moment I'm looking at just trying to play with the files from the examples; but I would prefer some documentatation on these.

Need just a little help connecting to our library's wireless access point

Our local library has wireless access, but in the Airport menu, it shows as unsecured (no padlock). But it does actually require a password, which I have, but since their wireless service looks unsecured, I don't get a menu asking for the password. I also get no messages from Airport about not being able to connect. It's like nothing happens.
Any ideas?

I haven't tried it with Safari being open. I just usually try to connect via the Aiport menu bar item. Then when I'm connected, I run the app I need.

HT1284 Do I need to reformat my external hard drive before I backup to it? It shows very little free space when in fact it is empty.

What is the external disk?
Is it new? If so, maybe it has a Windows file system on it (FAT, exFAT, or NTFS). If so then reformat to "HFS+ Journaled".
What backup utility are you using? TimeMachine, Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper, etc...? If the external is suppose to be bootable because you are using a cloning backup (CCC or SuperDuper), then it is also important that the disk partition table be GUID.
You can find out this information via Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility, select the disk (not volume on the disk) and the partition time will be shown at the botton of the window. Now Select the volume and it will tell you how the file system on the disk is formatted.
Also do you want to leave room for a recovery partition on the external disk? Then repartition it with a small (2GB) partition that can hold a bootable recovery partition that you can setup via the Apple "Recovery Disk Assistant" which can be downloaded from Apple.

Need a little help please Airport Express

Need a little help please.
I am trying to set up a wireless network at my home using Airport Express.
I have a regular phone line running in to I assume the modem. From there, there is an Ethernet cable running from that box to the back of the PC. My question is, I think, which of those do I unplug and plug into the Airport Express, the one on the back of the PC or the one that is in the back of the modem, or is this totally wrong.
Any help would be appreciated…

PS I have the manual but to me it is not very clear…

Your connection sequence would look like this:
Internet > Modem > AirPort Express >>>wireless to your computers.
This means that you would unplug the cable that is now connected at the back of your PC and move that connection to the AirPort Express.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click Continue to follow the guided setup. On the third page, you will choose the option to "Create a wireless network" and continue the setup.

8 Core Mac using very little of 16g Ram

I have noticed my 8 core MAC Pro with 16G of ram is using little ram. And Example is FCP and Motion open with 14.34G free. My last machine would have sucked the ram right up. I am sure someone can explain this situation.
I must say though, it is very fast and most noticed using compressor !

This is a very simple explanation...
RAM is allocated automatically by your Mac Pro, so the amount of RAM will fluctuate depending upon each program's needs. If a program requires 2 GB of memory to run, your Mac Pro, or any Mac for that matter, will automatically assign the amount of RAM required, on-the-fly. In other words, Mac OS X programs don't have fixed RAM allotments. This is called dynamic memory allocation.
So the programs you are running, like Final Cut Pro and Motion, will launch using very little RAM, but as you open files with those programs more memory will be allocated as required.
This is good news because more RAM is available for other applications to be open at the same time, which is one of the strengths of Mac OS X.

Hey there, I haven't had my audigy 2 for long but from the sounds of it, it sounds like your wave volume needs turning up in the control panel. Just check in there what volumes need turning up, hope that helps cya dev.

Very little sound, no equalizer

I have an HP Nootbook PC, Model #2000-49WM, (running Windows 8.1 OS) I'm can get very little volume from the Realtek Sound System. It is a Realtek AC-97 Audio Driver AU.06, Realtek High Definition Audio Driver 2.68. I'm getting very little volume from the sound system, turned up to 100% you can barely hear anything . Also if I turn the microphone volume up above about 10%, I get a loud feedback from the speakers. Realtek really screwed-up when they quit the equalizer back around Vista or so. Can anyone help, or do you need more information. And does anyone know of a good free software equalizer that would fit my system. When I first started the PC it had Windows 8 and I swear it had an equalizer. But because I wanted the desktop back I updated to Windows 8.1, maybe not a good move. Beginner! Need help getting started with recording music.

I am the definition of 'new' at the moment. I want to record my own music at home and I've been told that using an Apple Mac is one of the better ways to go about it at home.
I have a number of questions, most of which have probably been asked before (apologies!) starting right from the beginning.
1. What type of Mac would be best suited as a dedicated tool for recording music? Obviously speed and memory are big factors, but are there any other considerations here (available inputs, drivers, sound cards etc)? I'm hoping to keep the cost below AUS$3000 if possible.
2. Do i need any other hardware for this application? (this is where you can tell how inexperienced I am haha) such as mixers etc? If I should need a mixer, is there a particular type or brand of mixer that works well with Macs?
3. Will plugging a guitar amp into the mac improve sound quality over plugging the guitar directly into the Mac? I bought a Griggin Garage Band guitar cable a while ago to record some background music for a friend's DVD, and I found it worked well, but I'm looking for the best quality sound now.
4. What would be the most effective software to use? I've briefly used Garage Band and found that to be simple and useful, but I've heard that there are better software packages available.
I'm hoping to be able to record guitar, bass and vocals directly on to the Mac, and create drum tracks using samples and loops. I know how to play music but as you can tell I know very little about recording it! Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

It's showing its age, and will hopeful get updated soon, but most of the info is good at least for a background.
Anyway, I think I might recommend this Presonus INSPIRE over the FireBox, it'll save you about $100 and since PreSonus makes excellent equipment (and we have an active member here that uses the Inspire), I'm confident that it offers great quality.

I agree, the FirePod would be serious overkill for your needs. Again, an awesome interface, but you'd be paying for all those Mic PREs, and using 1. That wouldn't make sense, and since the FP isn't cheap...
my talent and engineering knowledge is quite limited
Then I would strongly suggest GB as the software, and then do lots of reading. The weakest link in music production is your engineering skills. Mixing and Mastering (especially the latter) are art forms. A bad engineer using a $10,000 bit of software and hardware would make a fantastic performance sound like garbage. With good engineering skills you can make a pro recording with GB.
The learning curve with something like Logic is dramatically increased, and again, without the skills to take advantage of what it offers, your recordings are not going to sound any better. At the very least, start with GB to learn the skills of Recording/Editing/Mixing/Mastering. The "price of admission" is low enough that if in a year you find that you need a feature GB doesn't offer, your money will not have been wasted, it will have been valuable learning time.

Need a little help I'm new to Mac.. i have had my ibook for over a year now and i like it a lot, but some times my usb post dies on my for a couple days maybe weeks. Ill have my ipod connected and when i go to plug in a flash drive. It doesn't detect my ipod anymore and my usb port don't work. it says that they were "removed improperly" and now they are not working again..i have tried to reinstall the whole os again and that doesn't work i don't have the hardware test disk so i don't know what could be the problem i know its not the logic board is there any test i can do to it to find out the problem its an ibook late 2001... there is no reset button on it. i tried to hold in the space bar and now when i boot up i get prompt to this screen that shows the world and then a folder with a ? mark but then after a few sec it boots right up im a mess need some help

You have to go to the iPod's icon on your computer (or the flash drive's icon), select it and eject it there before removing it. Otherwise, data can be corrupted and/or lost. Repeatedly removing it without ejecting it from the desktop can cause it not to be recognized any longer.
If your iBook is a "late 2001" model. It should have a reset button. Check out the chart here to make sure which model iBook you have:

It's trying to find a network volume from which to boot.
Once it's booted up, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk, and select your Mac OS X startup volume. Then close System Preferences. The next time you start up, it should start up without looking for a network volume.

Unfortunately, for me, I am not sure how to do this.
Can anyone show me how this can be done?
