You can only uncheck the cell phone number. The only way to delete it is to use for FaceTime and Messages an Apple ID not associated with the iPhone.

HT204053 kids are getting the parents imessages via their ipod touches - we don't want our kids getting our messages.. how can we stop this?

All devices are using updated software and here's the issue:
Mom & Dad each have an ipod 3gs. Two teen kids each have an ipod touch 4. All 4 devices use the same Apple ID, share free and purchased apps. The kids are receiving Mom and Dad's text messages & messages between our texting contacts.
Question: 1. How can we avoid the kids receiving messages displayed on our phones to their touches (we are aware of iMessage on/off but we know the kids are able to turn this feature on and off on their touches without the need for a password.
Question: 2. If we set up separate Apple ID's for each Ipod device, can we all still share current purchased Apps & continue to share purchased Apps? Apple allows up to 5 devices share Apps.
Help is appreciated before we choose to not upgrade the older 3gs phones to the latest iphone and get Samsungs.

Any devices connected to the same icloud account can sync all the data on that account. For this reason an icloud account is really for a single user.
On a mac, if each user has their own account, then the itunes for that mac account should be set up to connect to that user's icloud account (System preferences>icloud).

I had a similar problem with my iPhone and fixed it. You might as well give this a try even if your iPod works. This is what I did. (Follow these steps):
1. Make sure your phone is not connected/plugged to your computer then continue on step 2.
(For some reason, apparently iTunes also get installed to iPhone's which makes it sort of faulty.)
2. By going to your computer's Control Panel - Uninstall itunes. To completely uninstall itunes you need to uninstall 5 programs in this very sequence. (You have to make sure you follow this in order.)

3. Then simply re-install the latest iTunes. Go tohttp://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ , on the left side of that page you'll see a blue botton that say's "Download Now". Press that button and it should allow you to make sure that you've downloaded the latest iTunes.
4. Once you've reinstalled it go ahead and start iTunes and connect/plug your iPhone to your computer. iTunes should now be able to recognise your iPhone.
5. If it still does not work try unplugging your Iphone again, restart your computer and connect your Iphone once more. See it your computer recognises your device.
Steps 1-4 worked out real well for me so I hope it does for you too. If still a no no why not try and contact apple themselves they should be able to give help.

Try this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If the new library can be created and open without a problem make a temporary, backup copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:

Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.

Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.

In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
- You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
- If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
- Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
- There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.

How can I maximise the storage on my 64GB iPod Touch?

I have 14,000 songs in iTunes and want o make the most of the storage on my 64GB iPod Touch.
Ideally I want to dynamically increase and decrease the songs store on the iPod, depending on the photos, apps and other files synced with my computer.

Thanks - I already do that, but my entire song collection won't fit on the iPod, even compressed.
I may be wrong, but I thought there was an option to sync as many songs (a random selection) as there was space available on the iPod, whilst simultaneously managing and prioritising the space needed for apps, photos, etc.

I have the same problem since a couple days ago, I will try to refrain from swearing or slagging on Apple, got a few questions for you, Gerbrandt, or anyone else who's had this problem and worked around it by means of a 3rd party app:
1-Since using panamp have you used your ipod in any docks successfully? (ex: I have a JVC car deck, a Klipsch dock and the Yamaha dock for my home theatre, all will be worthless if I can't resurrect my iPod as a music player)
2-Has using panamp done anything to help the original Apple music app to work or has it stayed dead?
3-Do you have any smart playlists? Like others with the 64GB model I have many many songs (that's the WHOLE point of the large capacity iPod, isn't it?) and I found that the more smart playlists I had the worse the apple music app behaved back when it was still working.
I'll check out panamp tonight, hopefully that will stop me from curb-stomping my iPod.
Anyone know whether an Apple "genius" has access to any sort of debugging facilities that would make it worth visiting the store for help on this matter? (ex: if they have root access to check for corrupt song database, or debug logs of some sort, or can do any direct manipulation of commands over the dock connector).
It sure would be nice to know why this happens, I have about 14,000 songs locked in iTunes now and many hours of time invested in ripping my CD collection but I don't want to buy a replacement iPod only to have this happen to it too. If you still have the problem after retoring the iPOd to factory defaults/new iPod then The iPod is likely defective and replacement is required. You can make an appoinment at the Genius Bar of an APple store or take it back to BestBuy if within warranty

The Wi-Fi on my iPod Touch 4G is not working. People were working on my wi-fi, and, since it showed three bars still, I thought it was working. So when I found out it wasn't working, I tried to fix it by myself by forgetting the wi-fi network. Now, when I try to log in, it says that my password is incorrect (even though I know it is right). I think it is not working because I forgot the wi-fi network while they were working on it. One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem. A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
Power up
