but my pc is super fast will i find mac mini to slow
i got 8gb ram fast hybrid drive thanks
ps i cant pay for the ssd

Ziatron - I use T-Player on Windows (freeware) http://pages.infinit.net/tplayer/  and I use New Wave from Arrakis http://www.arrakis-systems.com/newwave.html (professional payware for entertaining parties, reunions, etc.); and I'm still looking for a Mac app. that's either freeware or payware, it dosen't matter.
Woodmeister - I agree about iTunes making it easier to manage between multiple devices; however, it's the only good point I have found so far.
CSound - I'm not a newbee. I've looked and tried everything iTunes has to offer, and I'm not satisfied with the way it manages each individual mp3 file. I don't like Windows Media Player either; but it appears to be the better of both worlds.
Here's what I have on an external drive. Classical, Country/Western, Jazz, 50s Rock, 60s Rock, 70s Rock, etc., (plus sound effects, drop-ins, bumpers, etc.) in its own category and folder. With close to 25,000 titles, it's not easy to put everything I rip into its own category using iTunes.
l also use Audacity to record tracks from vinyl; and Windows Explorer to put the track where it belongs on an external hard drive. (Actually 3 external hard drives for back-up.)
(This may be off-topic; but, I'm a retired professional radio broadcaster; and have worked with computers since 1980.)

Yes. I am an ardent Windows man. A strong follower of Bill but after 8 gruelling years I have decided to check Job out. I wanted mainly to return to Logic(It's logical) so I got me a refurbished Intel iMac with Leopard 10.5.2 preinstalled. I downloaded 10.5.4 and upgraded. Everything is working great. I then saw 10.5.5 was available. I downloaded it, tried to upgrade but after 12 hours all I saw was "Configuring Installation". Nothing else is happening. This where things starts to get tricky with my Mac. Can one just keep upgrading like windows or should I go back to 10.5.2 then go to 10.5.5? Tell me.

Some have had issues with the automatic software update. Did you download the full combo update for 10.5.5? It sounds as if you accepted the auto update.
    Download the combo update here:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1055comboupdate .html
    and reapply it.
Unlike Windows, there is no automatic "go back" or "undo" for an update. There are only two options:
Using a backup, revert to the previous system by reinstalling it.
    or
Install Leopard from scratch and update it all over again.
I am one who considers either option a last resort. Usually reinstalling the update with the manual download works.
Also, before reinstalling it, it's a good idea to boot into the Safe mode (hold down Shift key on boot) and at the login screen click restart. This does a major disk repair.
Also before upgrading, it's important to run the disk utility (in the applications/utility folder) and repair both harddisk and permissions, even if they don't need it.
Do this again after a major upgrade to be sure nothing has been changed.

  • Downloads page from tool has cleared, how do I bring it back?

I tried to check my download list and delete one and the whole page disappeared. how do i bring it back?

    Ah, you're on a MAC - I'm afraid that I'm a windows man.
I have seen lots of problem with the latest Yosemite system but I can't really advise you as I think your problem needs system knowledge not just PSE knowl;edge.
It sounds as though the right panel is hiding off screen. Perhaps you need to temporarily change screen resolution to enable you to resize the screen.
Good luck - I hope a MAC person can jump in here.

  • How do I delete ..when logging into my email.. it populates my entire email address .. how do I stop this ?

how do I delete.. when logging into my email.. it populates my entire email address.. how do I stop this ?????

    Hi Roam.
    Message understood.
I managed to delete me and substitute her as Administrator. Thanks.
you ask what machine I am now using, I am a Windows man, currently using XP Pro SP3 and have been for 10 years. A friend from the Education Dept gave me a phased out Mac with OS X in an endeavor to convert me.
At first I was very impressed but as time went on I found that the Mac was not as user friendly as I had thought. The terminology was foreign to me, and where Windows placed thing automatically into place, with Mac I had to physically pick up and re-locate programs.
But what really turned me off was that nearly every thing that I wanted to do I had to go to the net and try and find drivers or whatever to overcome my problems.
A point in question, I purchased an external USB dual layer DVD burner. When connected to XP, it was recognized instantly and within a few minutes I as up and going. With the Mac, it is not even recognized let alone getting it to work!
And then there are all the other little things like printing. In windows every thing from every page I can print, Ctrl + P. With the Mac, I am still trying to find out how to print a page from the Help menu.
Enough said. My daughter is interested and that is all that counts. Let her work it all out, she is smarter (an younger) than me.

  • Converting .mov to other formats like .mpeg2 etc.,

    Hi all
Please let me know what is the best way to convert my iMovie files or the resulting file which is .mov to other video formats still retaining best quality. How do I do that?
The next question is after make a iMovie project, without loosing quality how do I make a DVD? Do I export as high quality mov then import into iDVD and do the job as I imported the iMovie project directly into iDVD to produce DVD quality trying to avoid importing the .mov file fearing of any quality drop as it was 2 step process.
As expected there was no compromise in quality but the dvd did not have the audio track which the iMovie project had.
    Help please!

    Hi S
Not my way of doing it.
There is no true - Without theme option when using a movie from iMovie
but one can fake some of it.
First I drop my movie icon into the theme window BUT first I change it to
    a box-diagram (see under the theme window man - triangle - box-diagram)
now drop the icon into the upper left most box.
This will do the DVD movie self starting.
Now it is the finish. I select an as easy theme as possibly eg. bruched metalic.
Then drop a black photo into it. Now it looks like there is nothing there.
    No audio etc.
also note that You can select to let the movie loop - start again after end.
    or
You can Export back Your movie to a miniDV tape. Then use this and "OneStep DVD"
It will also produce a True no theme DVD.

  • Need help setting up DSL modem

I just spent 45 min. with a techie from my server trying to get an ethernet DSL modem set up. He was a Windows man and not familiar with Mac OS. We got everything in the control panels set up but activation failed. When I got to the final stage where it should connect, it didn't. All cables were tight and in the right place. I set it up for ethernet. The techie said the ethernet card isn't being activated and he didn't know how to do that neither do I.
What should I do next, besides a 190 mile trip to the nearest Apple store?
Or is there anything that can be done here at home?
iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.2)   I can't update to 10.4.7 because it times out

Yes, the light goes on. The only other computers I have are an old iBook G3, Mac mini, and G3 blue and white Yosemite that only runs OS9. I use the iBook for e-mail and searches, which is why I wanted DSL. I use the Mac mini to work on my web pages and process photos (offline). I don't do much surfing.
The problem seems to boil down to (1) where is the PPPoe server and (2) how do I authenticate?
Since the techie from my server couldn't help, I'm sending an e-mail to the server asking about PPPoe and authentication. If I can't get anywhere with them, I'll just take the modem down to them and dump it off.

  • Problem loading trial version

I successfully installed the trial version of Dreamweaver for
Windows from the Adobe website. When I tried to run the program I
get to the software setup window and select, "I want to trail Adobe
Dreamweaver CS3 free for 30 days." When I hit next I get an error
message saying that a problem was encountered while trying to load
the trial period for Adobe Dreamweaver CS3. I have uninstalled and
reinstalled with the same result. My computer exceeds the system
    requirements. Any ideas?

Having the same issue...with all the CS3 products.
Just got off the phone with support on it and they have no
clue about the problem or the fix. They recommended reinstalling
windows (man...if I had a $ for each time I've heard that crap).
    So...no trial review=no license purchased.
    Thanks for nothing

  • Since Leo, syncing iCal -- SonyEricsson 750i not working...

    Hi forum,
anyone knowing the following issue and having a fix for it?
Before Leopard, iSync delivered my iCal-events nicely into my mobile phone (K750i), as well as from mobile to iCal, which was nice.
Now, with Leo, it seems that newly created events in iCal or on the mobile won't get synced - the events created when Tiger was king are still ok.
    What to do?
    Thank you so much,
    .Michi

No solution that I can divine.
About the only communicating iCal seems to do is "to do's" back and forth with Mail. Everything else as far as sending info is Kaput. Dot mac posting... Kaput. iPod syncing... Kaput. Phone syncing... Kaput. I feel like a windows man.
Maybe send a bug report to Apple. I did.

Shouldn't be too much longer and hopefully the first update will fix.

  • Poor Video Quality in DVD's

Im new to Mac being a windows man for many years. I am having problems when using iMovie and iDVD to make a DVD from mini dv tapes. I know from using Pinnacle Studio on the PC what sort of quality i should be expecting. I have checked that importing from the camcorder is DV and that when i make the dvd it is set to Professional quality but all i get on playback is a what best can be described as an internet quality video. I would be grateful for any suggestions as it was mainly for video editing and photo work that i bought a mac.

    hi ralph
You really help me a lot seting ichat. I used it for 2 years and all was great, now I changed my internet service provider with a new modem and couldn't connect anymore. But now I that I did all what you said and changed the port to 443 I could get connect.
But the image quality its very poor. I did the test and this are the rates:
download 674 kbps upload 66 kbps.
its that low? what are the best rates to have a clear image? should I ask for a higher speed? or the problem its that the port 443 its not as fast as the defoult one?? Thank you

  • "No Message File" error appears when I connect my iPod

    Hi,
I have a 8GB iPod Nano with me. I am using iTunes 7.4.
When I connect my iPod to the PC, iTunes opens, but it is followed by the error message 'No Message file'. I am not sure what is the problem.
Someone please help, I am missing my music.

Not a Windows man myself but can't you connect the iPod, select it in "My Computer" right click and select "properties" then click the Autoplay tab and select "Take no action".
A bit of a guess really on my part.

  • SDK vs SCRIPT - GENERAL QUESTION

    Hi,
I am automation developer for all Adobe products using JavaScript, VBScript. Now I am looking SDK development.
Can I use VBScript code inside of SDK. I mean, I use VBScript (code) which is much meaning full. But C++ code is not like that.
For clear, We can use (Javascript, VBScript, AppleScript) for scripting. Can we use either this instead C++ code for SDK?

    Hello ksaravanan:
After reading your request several times I think you are asking this: Can an InDesign script do the same thing as what can be done using the SDK?
I have written a fairly complex Applescript program which is used to generate fairly large and complex documents from an inhouse scripting language--the scripting required macro expansion, macro substitution, and complex analysis involving deep nesting and careful logic. I did a lot of complex stuff, and I could have done every single one of those selfsame tasks in a plugin using the InDesign SDK. Further, those tasks would have been done faster and probably more efficiently using SDK code. Why Applescript? To be honest (grin) my boss knew I was a Windows man and he wanted to see me work on a Mac out of pure spite (wide grin).
But I also convinced him that everything this converter needed to do could be done using Applescript a lot more simply and quickly than in an SDK. Speed was not an issue, nor was efficiency. Development time was (even so it still took me about a year to develop).
Now, can everything done by the SDK be done in a script? No. Not by a long shot. Oh, I suppose one could write a plugin and make it scriptable; in that sense, yes, but in every other sense, no. The SDK gives the programmer pretty deep access to the innards of the program; script commands hide such access
b (see Patrick Perroud's fine entry--Patrick, that was poetry, my friend)
. So it depends upon what you want to do. Simple automation or even complex automation that doesn't often change and does not require speed can probably be handled just fine by a script. If you need speed, efficiency, and/or if you need to reach into the heart of InDesign, learn the SDK. It's a challenge, but worth it.
    HTH!

  • Uninstall or Repair steps please...

    Hey Guys,
I'm trying to uninstall Final Cut Pro HD or at least see if it needs files repaired. I got this W5 from my boss and its last user really messed some things up. I'm new new macs but i'm having a horrible time getting the DVD to burn with glitches etc... The MaC guy suggested to uninstall it then re-install it.
But I'm a windows man, and all you do is click uninstall or repair files. I'm not finding either.
Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

One out of select few of the burnt DVD's work flawlessly yet the others skip and have playing issues. I compress the video from final cut to iMove then to iDVD for burning. Where is a good place to post this? < </div>
Ah, see the "understand the process" comment. You've got a long way to go. Start taking the FCP manuals to the gym with you. We all were new at this at one time or another. I think you will enjoy your Macintosh in a few more weeks. Also suggest you get one fo the many Mac OS10 bibles. Look for titles by Robin Williams, David Pogue and Andy Inhatko.
Open the online help system for FCP and look up export by reference.
You will export your sequence by reference, drop the reference movie onto iDVD. Do not go through iMovie at all, that only creates a newly compressed movie in a totally screwball format.
If you have FCP, you also have DVD Studio Pro. Another monster application but vastly superior to iDVD in every way except elegant simplicity.

  • The Apple Newbie

    Hey guys,
I am proud to announce I'm now the owner of a shiny new Macbook Pro. I've been a Windows man for years and have finally made the transition!
I have Leopard installed, and it looks and feels amazing. But I have a problem... I'm clueless on how to use it to it's fullest - or how to use it at all. I'm completely new to MacOSx so I really don't know where to start.
Are there manuals to guide the new user through Leopard and all its functions? The manual it came with is in dutch ( as I'd purchased it here) and it doesn't say much anyway, only how to get started etc.
    Your help is much appreciated.
I'm one happy man, I just could be happier!
    Cheers,
    Chris

  • DVD Studio Pro and Compressor suck!

I usually never do this, come to a forum and trash a software. But I must say that Compressor (especially!) and DVD Studio Pro simply suck. They are nowhere near a professional standard. In fact they are worse than other encoding and authoring softwares which would not even dream of billing themselves as "professional".
Everytime I encode something there are pops and pixellations. Most of the time in different places. To ensure that a video is encoded properly (and when I say properly I only mean without defects like pixellation etc), I have to encode it anywhere from 5 to 10 times, with the time expense of watching each version to make sure they are clean. Not to mention the extremely poor quality of encoding, even at best settings.
Artists, musicians, filmmakers - do not even try to use Compressor or DVD Studio Pro for your important projects. Look elsewhere. They will make your hair go white. Apple, shame on you for realeasing such a crappy product!

    Right on, Eric.
I'm a devoted Windows man, but I must say that DVDSP is the best DVD authoring software I've tried so far.
As far as compressor goes, it depends what program you are exporting from and for what purpose. There are many options in there and I for instance found out that using something like a Photo JPEG compression rather than a DV PAL setting for a project that was all in DVD PAL gave a better output.
Compressor is a pretty big program and by trying different things out, you can probably find what you need.
Sounds like there could be a problem with your computer if everything comes out as crappy as you say...?
Good luck figuring it out or make your mpegs on PC's TMPGEnc. (He-he... )
