  • Help before i shoot myself!  Moving Data

I have a 2009 macbook pro running lion and a 2011 imac running snow leopard (just delivered today) It's a long story. However, what im trying to do is copy what is currently on my macbook pro in lion (this is all current info) and move everything to my imac, running snow leopard.  The problem that i am having is im tryin to restore my imac from my macbook pro via migration assistant and thats not worked at all.  The imac is kinda saying it wont do it coz the backup its from a different machine.  I just want to take whats on my 2009 macbook pro running lion and move it all to (and over-right) whats currently running on my 2011 imac running snow leopard to bring it up to date with my macbook pro.
I know this is probably not difficult to someone looking in right now, but ive spent all bloody day on it!  Please any help you can ive will be really appreciated.
    Thank you!!

You seem to be describing two different things here: one is that you want to Restore your iMac with waht's on your MBP, and the other that you want to move some date to the iMac from the MBP. Those are two contradictory things, and one of them won't work.
If you are trying to Restore your iMac from the MBP (move everything, including the OS) it may not work. Since no 2011 iMacs shipping since July come with Snow Leopard installed, that leaves some doubt as to what you have on that machine, and how you got it.
But in any case, if you just want to move some data from the MBP to the iMac, instead of messing around with Migration Assistant, why not just connect the two computers via Ethernet and do a straight Finder copy from one to the other?

  • Insufficient disk space for rendering - about to kill myself

I have two clips on my timeline. Quicktime clips. I just want to render them. It says I have insufficient disk space for rendering, try cleaning out files and trying again. I deleted everything in my render files, everything in the final cut pro documents. My hard drive has 199 GB of free space. Together in total these clips are under 4 minutes. Why in the name of all that is holy is 200 GB of space not enough for rendering? If you can answer that or tell me what to do, I'll give you my first born child.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
Without full system info (computer, OS, FCE and QT versions, external devices, etc. along with specifics of the QuickTime clips), this is just guesswork. Is there another hard drive involved? Could your FCE System Settings have your render files going to a drive that's almost full?

  • Error 1402 and 1603 thinking of shooting myself

I have just purchased an ipod 30gb and have spent the last few days struggling to install quick time. I have tried everything in the troubleshooting guides on the forum
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.htlm?artnum=93865
nothing works still get the same error any suggestions or should I just return the ipod

You have removed QT by way of the add/remove programs control panel and did a search and deleted all left over components, that is very good and the way to remove a program. Now I believe you need to remove QT from the registry as well where the new QT installer cannot write into it, it could be permissions, but I think corruption.
    HKEYLOCALMACHINESoftware+Microsoft+Windows+CurrentVersion
    Uninstall- in there you want to delete the QuickTime uninstall key. With QT 6 it was unvise32qt. In QT 7 it will be a series of numbers that will look like this{3868A8EE-5051-4DB0-8DF6-4F4B8A98D083} for iTunes{872653C6-5DDC-488B-B7C2-CF9E4D0335E5}
Click once on a series of numbers to highlight, on the right it will show if it belongs to Apple Computer.
Delete the key and then run windows installer clean up utility, then try installing QT.

  • I am about to shoot my iPod and receiver...please help

I have a 6th generation iPod classic. I bought a Yamaha receiver with their YDS-11 dock station that is "made for iPod". I get the music through the receiver, but not playlists on my TV (the TV is run through the receiver) as is supposed to happen with compatible iPods (and the 6th generation is listed as compatible). I have a bunch of TV settings. Are these what are keeping me from getting the playlists on my TV??
Thanks in advance for your help. I don't want to hurt my iPod, but I will do it.
    Dan

    thank you, Maria!
anyway, the only problem i have now is that it disconnects itself after a short while -1 minute tops- and shows this "cant read or write the ipod" message.
woohoo! that error message we've actually got some documentation on:
-36 or "Disk cannot be read from or written to" error syncing iPod in iTunes
... and one of the possible causes of that error message is a software conflict.
tracking down that particular possibility might be a pain though ... it's generally a trial and error thing. the techniques outlined in these documents might be helpful:
Close Applications Running in the Background
Using MSCONFIG to troubleshoot conflicts in Windows

  • Finder freezes when copying files to an external USB drive

I am copying video TS folders from my Mac Pro to a USB 3.0 drive, and Finder keeps freezing up. Oddly, it doesn't always happen, and it doesn't seem to be the amount of data--I've successfully copied 32GB at once, and had Finder crash trying to copy 6GB. Other details: the external drive is brand-new, and set up for OS X, I have repaired the permissions on the Mac's drive and just for kicks did the same on the Seagate USB drive. I was originally copying the files from a folder I had on the desktop, and read here that the desktop being involved in the equation is a Finder-killer, so I moved the files to a different folder. I have done this a lot in the past to a different drive with no problems whatsoever. Lastly, when this happens, all I can do a hard restart. Everything is fine when it starts back up, but after a dozen restarts in a day, I'm about to shoot myself.

Well, I can tell you this
    Mac's can't use USB 3 so it's dropping to USB 2
If it's port powered, it could be drawing too much power and the Mac is cutting it off, use a powered USB hub.
If the external drive is formatted MBR with FAT32 (MSDOS) then that's a issue with over 4GB sized files, you need exFAT or HFS+
You may nee dot remove all data and Zero Erase the entire drive to map off bad sectors and before each time you copy a huge amount of data (if it hasn't ben done in the last 6 months) this catches new failing sectors.

    BEFW11S4 ROUTER
Please help! I reset my router so now the i.p. is 192.168.1.1
This i.p. does not work with my dsl modem.
My default gateway is 192.168.1.254... is that what the router is supposed to be set at?
Also.. i can't change my password... am I trying to change it in the wrong place?
    ..administration / management.
please help i am about to shoot myself! thanks

okay... router's default gateway is 192.168.1.1 i am wondering how come you are getting 192.168.1.254... anyways, remove the modem from the router and powr cycle the router by unplugging power cable of the router and restart the computer...check what IP address are you getting...if you are getting 169.254.x.x or 0.0.0.0 IP address try resetting the router again to default settings...and power cycel the n/w again..if you are getting 192.168.1.1 IP address try pinging 192.168.1.1 if you are unable to ping... assign a static IP address on the computer for e.g. 192.168.1.10 subnetmask 255.255.255.0 default gateway 192.168.1.1 and try pinging default gateway...if it still doesn't ping then i believe router is dead...but try these steps and let me know if you have any questions.

  • Shoot both 50 Hz and 60 Hz HD, which camera w FCP?

    Hi again, Guys.
In a prior discussion I started, asking about a good modest priced HD camera that would output files that would work well with FCP, the consensus was that the Panasonic HMC-40 was a good choice at a modest price for shooting HD material that would be cut on FCP 7.  Sadly, I neglected to say, when I started the discussion, that ideally I need to shoot both in the US and the UK.  i.e. at 60 Hz and at 50 Hz respectively.   When I researched the Panasonic HMC-40 I was told that it could not switch between 60 and 50 Hz.  But that the next camera up COULD switch.  That camera is the AG HMC 151 E.  I was told this by a Panasonic rep in the UK.  But the problem is that I would like to puchase the camera in the US.  The US model is the AG HMC 150.  And that model it seems DOESN'T switch between 60 and 50 Hz. It only shoots 60.  (Why Panasonic has done this is a mystery to me.)
On a tech discussion group about HD shooting, one person said that the problem with shooting 60 Hz in the UK is mainly lighting, e.g. if you are shooting with florescent light in the UK, you might get flicker if you use a 60Hz camera in the UK.  So my questions are:
    1) If I am shooting in the UK with a 60 Hz camera (i.e. a camera I have purchsed in the US that is not switchable) what are the biggest problems?
Is it only if I were shooting in florescent light, or is the quality overall a big problem.
    2) If I shoot 60 Hz but am shooting in the UK, can I use FCP to convert the 60 Hz materail to 50 Hz and will that solve any image problems?
    3) Now that I have mentioned that I would like to be able to shoot in the UK and US with the same camera, but that I want to buy the camera in the US, does anyone have another recommendation of a camera that is in the $2,000. range that would serve this purpose and still create files that would work well in FCP 7?
Do Sony or Canon address this switchable 60/50 Hz  issue more effectively than Panasonic?  In the earlier discussion, it was noted that Panasonic cameras created files that were easiest to use with FCP.
I am sure I have said things here that reveal how unknowledgeable I am about shooting HD.  But this will be my first camera purchase after having been an editor for over 10 years.  Any advice most welcome, and thanks in advance.

Thanks for this very helpful info.  In a separate discussion Shane did share that tutorial.  Obviously that is crucial.
Reading reviews of the XF100 recently, I saw several comments stating that it did not perform too well in low light.  Much of my work is in natural light.  I don't even own a light kit.  So that was a concern.  Do you feel otherwise?  After reading about this I started looking at Sony cameras because of the Exmor sensors.
I was also concerned about using the Canon plug in for log and transfer.  I am always wary of third party elements in the mix with FCP, where if something goes wrong there is a lot of finger pointing, Apple saying it's the third party element, the third party says it's FCP.  In your experience, is the Canon plug in a very reliable tool?
I asked myself why doesn't Final Cut allow for imports from this Canon camera using its own log and transfer tool?  Why are all of the other cameras I am looking at in this price range creating AVC HD files that FCP's log and transfer tool handles without a third party plug in.
Perhaps I am wrong in these concerns.  Would love to hear that I am!
I am now looking at the Sony HXR-NX70, but sadly, this camera is not switchable 50 / 60 Hz.  Yet.  It is a new camera and Sony is considering whether it should allow for customers to send the camera in to make it usable worldwide.  The Sony HXR NX5E, which is switchable, is beyond my budget.  At least the NX70 comes with two XLR inputs and has full control of the audio.
So now I am trying to determine:  If I have a camera that only shoots 25 fps / 50 hz, can I in fact use that camera to create content for a US client that will only use that content on the web (i.e. it will not be viewed as broadcast television)
You mention that the The .mxf files the MX100 creates are XDCAM at to 50mbps.  I have been trying to understand how the 50 mbps aspect impacts final results.   Is there a quick answer to what the concerns are re this aspect on cameras.  Appologies for my novice level of knowledge on these things.  This is the first camera purchase...
Thanks in advance for any other thoughts you care to share, and thanks again for all of the detailed info you have already provided.

  • How do I update my old MacBook to the newest operating system, but want to clean it out thoroughly first (without losing my data). How should I best go about doing this?

Hi everybody. I have a MacBook that's about five years old. I want to buy the newest operating system so that it runs better (because currently it is struggling), however I would like to clean up all the old software before I do that. I want it to be as clean and new as possible before I buy the new operating system, instead of just downloading it ontop of all of the rubbish I must have accumulated. I also want to keep my data (documents, photographs etc). Would anybody be kind enough to provide me with a step-by-step (can be as concise as you like, depending on how much time/effort you have to explain!) guide as to how I might go about doing this myself? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank so much guys.

Step number one - Back up all your important data!
Seriously, it sounds like you are working without backups. Don't ever do this. Hard drives fail, it is a fact of life. Don't be one of those who get caught without a backup. An external hard drive, burning it all to DVDs, or online backup will save you frustration and money.
Two - don't expect a new operating system to improve performance. Get the computer running as best as it can before you upgrade. You may need more RAM or a bigger hard drive.

  • Question about Java RMI and Eclipse

I would like to create an application with which I can easily connect to a JAVA program, installed on a web server, through JAVA RMI. I have already created a ClientRMI.java and a ServerRMI.java and compiled them. The stubs also have been created properly.
When I run the application outside the Eclipse editor, everything works just fine! However, when I want to integrate the files into a bigger project in Eclipse... and starts running it, he tells me he can't find the stub class or something like that. I need to place this one in the classpath but I don't know how to do that in Eclipse? Could anyone help me with this problem?
    Thanks!
This is the fault message I get:

    D-me

Do you have an idea of what the answer to our
question could be?I don't have much idea about the question myself. I was groping in the dark. :-)
Anyway, the project classpath settings and the external jars (or dependent projects) are a few things which could be experimented with. I'm afraid I couldn't be much help without having a look at what you are trying to do. :-(

  • Trouble-shooting SAP BEx authentication issues

    Hi Experts,
When I am faced with an authorization issue in Business Explorer, it is quite troublesome as it is not as simple as executing SU53 and finding out the missing authorization objects.  SU53 does not seem to work on Business Explorer (i.e. executing Queries, etc.).
In this instance, the user is running a query and receives the error message pop-up in Excel:
Error Specifying a value for variable Fiscal Period "Base Period"
I know this is an authorization issue as assigning a certain role corrects this and the Query will display to the user the proper fields to input values.  However, what is the way I should go about trouble-shooting authorization issues such as these in the future?  SU53 certainly doesn't work in this instance, is there something else I can use for Business Explorer?

    Benjamin,
SU53 has never worked for BEx.
For SAP BW 2.x and 3.x you can use [ST01 |https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/wiki?path=/display/plm/authorization%252btrace%252b-%252bst01]for technical authorization objects and [RSSM|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes/sdn_oss_bw_bex/~form/handler] for data-authorization
In SAP BI 7.0 you can use [ST01|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/wiki?path=/display/plm/authorization%252btrace%252b-%252bst01] for technical authorization objects and [RSECADMIN|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes/sdn_oss_bw_bex/~form/handler] for data-authorization

  • Tiger constantly complains about the printer being stopped!

I am really getting sick and tired of dealing with a problem that I for not a SINGLE DAY had in Mac OS 7-9! NOT a single day!!
Please understand my frusteration, because in some ways Mac OSX is a downgrade. Yet in many others ways is superior.
Okay yesterday or Friday I sent several faxes via my FaxSTF X app. Today I wanted to do the same but kept on getting a machine saying that my printer has stopped and I clicked on continue to add it to the que. I then opened the print manager and clicked on the start jobs icon, and nothign happened, except more temp files were created in the FaxSTF window. But no the fax never went through.
How do I fix this? I am about to buy myself a fax machine. Most companies and individuals these days do not bother with sending faxes with their computers. There are too many hassles.
For me its just plain sad that my old LC III (with Global Village Fax Center) could floor Tiger anyday in a faxing contest.
I appreciate the help. I am just really frusterated with this ibook.
    John

    Hi, John.
    1. I don't use FaxSTF X, but — if you're trying to fax through your Mac's built-in modem — I suspect the "printer" being cited may not be your actual printer but rather a FaxSTF X-related queue. What's the exact text of the message?
    2. Also, in System Preferences > Print & Fax > Faxing, assure that "Receive faxes on this computer" is de-selected. Under Panther, this FaxSTF X support article noted conflicts between their software and this preference, which relates to the built-in Fax function of Mac OS X introduced in Panther. While they've not updated this article for Tiger, it's worth a try.
    3. One other option is to check Console for clues, i.e. messages referring to FaxSTF X or print queues at the end of the logs cited in my link when the problem occurs.
    4. Finally, you may want to search the SmithMicro support database or contact them.
    Good luck!

  • About Dense & Spare

    Hi,
I am new to Hyperion Planning. Please anyone help me to explain the below things?
    1) How Dense & Spares are storing in Cube(I have referred the ESSBASE guide, but difficult for me to understand the concept in depth)
    My understanding:
            Spare - Index
            Dense - Data Blocks
What are the main difference between Index & Data blocks? Please explain...
While writing the calculation scripts, how to handle this?
Is there any book or document explain detail in about trouble shooting the calculation script with examples.  In C & C++ language, there is lot of trouble shooting book for understanding the syntax and  functions, is there any things is available for ESSBASE.
    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
the dense / sparse subject and its impact on calculation performance is too wide to answer in a forum. There are training courses and many documents on the internet that deal with this subject. There are also books for sale which cover this subject.
On both you can use a search engine for the internet.

  • Shooting wirelessly D200 and tetherec

I have read Aperture 2 manual and I am not clear about wireless shooting.
    1. Currently, I transfer my images from the camera to a folder on my MacBook Pro via FTP from my Nikon D200 using a WT3A and import via Aperture Hot Folder into Aperture.
Is it possible recognize those images thru the tethered dialog box in AP2. It seems like AP2 needs to see the camera
Has anyone tried shooting wirelessly into AP2?
    Thanks
    Steven

I really don't want for the computer to control the camera. I want to shoot from the camera and transfer the images into the computer. It is a slightly different model. And I am not sure using camera software into a folder will really allow me to pull the images into Aperture... If one can still do this with AP2, I am most curious to learn how.
    Thanks
    Steven
