Im desperate....

my itunes on my computer was erased and all my songs gone. i currently have all my songs still on my ipod. if i insert my ipod into my computer will tunes automatically erase all my songs? is there anyway to transfer all my songs on my ipod to itunes which currently has no songs on it??? please help.. thankyou

Uninstall iTunes. This is necessary if iTunes is set to start and synchronize automatically.
Now, in any Windows Explorer window go to the Tools menu> Folder Options>View tab>Select Show hidden files and folders.
Hit OK.
Now go to My Computer and open the iPod icon (will be under devices with removable storage). Go to the folder iPod_Control>Music - you'll see folders numbered F00, F01 etc. Copy these folders to a location on your hard disk (like the My Music folder). Right click on these folders in their new location, select Properties, and clear the "Hidden" check box.
Now you can reinstall iTunes and just add these folders to the Library as usual. Once there, select Advanced in iTunes and Consolidate Library, if you have the option to keep your songs organised in folders it'll sort them out for you.
Hope this helps, Merry Christmas.

  • Desperate plea: ipod not recognized by Windows/itunes

    I apologise ...
for being yet another forum user who pops up with a desperate plea.
I am fairly geeky and done everything I can think of.
I have 2 ipods. One is a brand new video ipod, the other a 2nd generation. Both ipods work on one one laptop, my video ipod refuses to work on my Sony Vaio (whereas the 2g ipod is fine)
Specifically: I connect via USB and a "not recognised ... device malfunctioning" error occurs. Using exactly the same USB port, cable and a different (the 2g) iPod it works fine.
I have removed and reinstalled itunes and ipod updater.
I went to the mac store's "genius" bar and the ipod was given the all clear.
So, there's clearly a conflict between my video ipod and my Sony Vaio (running XP: have tried this with and without SP2) My question is what should I try next?
I've done everything I can think of, and as the other ipod works (and this video ipod works with other systems!) I am at a loss at to which variable to try next.
I apologise for bothering you regulars, but rest assured significant googling and more have turned nothing up ...
    I wait in hope!
To make a little clearer as my post was not particularly eloquent: my 2g ipod works fine using the same USB cable and USB port. The 5g is not recognised. I am trying to establish the variable between these so I can fix it. Any ideas?

    Thanks for the speedy response.
I am afraid, no, there are no errors when nothing is plugged in or, indeed, when the 2g iPod is plugged in. I've followed other threads on here and been sure to have usbstor.inf etc all in place.
When I plug in the 5g, windows says a device attached to the system is malfunctioned or unknown. In device manager it says the device is unknown.
The ipodservice is running and all other software and processes are there/have been reinstalled/restarted etc. I've done every I can logically think of!
I am really at a loss as to why my 2g iPod works and my 5g iPod won't. Annoyed as well, obviously, as the Mac store formatted my iPod today during the troubleshooting. Thus this morning I had 25GB of music and no ability to update, now I have 0GB of music and no ability to update (I still have all the music on my laptop, I mean simply I can't get it on to the iPod at the moment)
Can anyone think why one iPod works and one doesn't? Is there anything in the USB 1.1 or 2.0 side of things that could be playing up?
    So grateful for any help!
    Tom

  • Can no longer read DVDs or CDs--DESPERATE

I am running OSX 10.7.3. Yesterday all my thousands of fonts completely disappeared from Suitcase Fusion 2. I was told by Extensis that I could not get them back, but that I needed to upgrade to Fusion 3 which would be compatible with Lion. I did that. When I tried to get my stored fonts off the CDs and DVDs I'd stored them on all the CDs appeared to be blank and I got a message on the DVD that it cannot be read on my computer. (I have used all these CDs and DVDs before.)
I am in desperate trouble. I need these fonts for my design work and I can not possibly afford to replace them.
In looking at some posts from others, I see that this has happened to many people once they upgraded to Lion.
    Can someone please help me?
Thank you so, so much in advance!

Try a slot drive cleaner and all the other suggestions mentioned in the Apple article - Apple Portables: Troubleshooting the slot load optical disc drive
    I am running OSX 10.7.3.
Yet your system profile confirms you are actually using "Mac OS X (10.4.8)."  Please correct.

  • I am desperate and seriously need some help - iPhone tracking.

I’m really hoping one of you can help me.
Long story short – my daughter aged 6 was taken from me last week because my violent rapist ex husband told Children’s Services that I tried to drive her off a cliff and am a serious suicide risk, I abuse her, I neglect her, I’m an alcoholic, anorexic, complete psycho nutjob etc etc, really nasty stuff. I am desperately trying to get her back. I need to prove I was not at this cliff & in fact have never been there, nor have I ever been stalking his house as he claims (& was awarded a 500m exclusion zone from his house so I can’t get my daughter if I need to as well as a ban on any telephone or postal contact between my daughter & I). I can prove my phone has been used every day for the last 2 years with my bills and if I can prove that in that time I have never been to this cliff, among a million other things I need to try & prove by Wednesday, I have a fighting chance of getting her back. I was allowed supervised visitation today & she’s scared & confused, massively regressed, looking physically neglected, she was withdrawn & was trying to tell me something but being supervised she couldn’t & got told off for whispering. The police are powerless in this & Children’s Services believe him over me, unless I can disprove his claims. Apparently it’s my job to prove their allegations are false rather than them having to prove they’re true!
Anyway, I’m trying to do the tracking thing on my iPhone 4, IOS 5.1.1.
I have got so far but I am totally stuck now. Nothing I do seems to work & to be honest half of the instructions may as well be in Swahili to me! It’s all totally over my head & I am not techy enough to understand it, I’m literally Googling every other word to try to understand.
Please please please can you help me???
Though I would never normally do it with complete strangers is there any way anyone would be willing to do a remote access thing on my laptop to get the proof I need? Can anyone give me an idiots guide to it? I’m not on Skype or chat or anything but I will get on to it if it helps? Can I ring someone & talk me through it? Can anyone please do anything at all to help my daughter & I??
I’ve been on http://petewarden.github.com/iPhoneTracker/ & downloaded the app. I’ve also downloaded all the suggested programmes on http://www.26horas.com/apple-device-tracker/ as well as HDXHex thingy, I follow the instructions as far as I can but then I keep getting errors about SQLite3 databases & modules not being found... I have no idea what any of this means but I have heard this technology is no longer valid? Apple has changed it or something? Apparently people whining about big brother & invasion of privacy has made apple change everything & clam up about tracking, but apparently there is still a way, just no one seems to know how!
Please can you help me? Please, if there is any way you can help me I would owe mine and my daughter’s lives to you. I am desperate and literally on my knees begging you to help me, please. I’ll pay for your time, but please can you help me?

#1. The iPhone "tracker" you're referring to has already been completely debunked. That is NOT what the data was. In addition, Apple update that "fixed" the percieved problem, so the data is no longer accessible.
The only way to "prove" what you want to is get a court order for your cellular company to pull the records for the location of your phone over time from their system.
They know exactly where you phone is at any given moment, but that is not going to be something they will give you just for the asking.
Get a lawyer.  If you had one, they would have already advised you of this. If you can't afford one, call legal aid.

  • Can't install boot camp(Am in desperate need of help!!!)

Ok, the story, I will try to make it short:
-Got my Imac a month ago. Installed Boot Camp Vista Home Premium 64 Bit. No problem. Ran smooth.
-Later I got VMWare fusion and decided to check it out. Didn't like to to much, but now I can't install Boot Camp.
-When using Boot Camp assistent, it creates my partition(which 200 GB) Fat32! The problem is, when it wants to boot to install. It ejects the Vista installation DVD! No matter what I do.
-*If I hold down the ALT key(option button) during start up*, it will show a grey screen with two options(The Macintosh HD and the Windows Partition). Selecting the Windows partition gives a black screen with an error; *"non-system disk press any key to reboot"* Only problem is that the keyboard was dead or frozen so had to crash the machine.
-Pressing D on start up to enable the *Apple Hardware Test* showed no problems.
-Pressing Alt + Cmd(command) + P + R to *delete the NVRam and PRAM*, did not have any effect. I think I did it right though, because there came a second start up sound.
-Pressing S + Cmd(command) on start up to run *User Single Mode*, with the command; "/sbin/fsck -fy" did not reveal any problems either, except for a weird long messege that kept coming up, and which interupted the line I was writing on several times. The messege was as follows: +":/root# AppleUSBEHCI[0x6e8t000]:: Found a Transaction Past the completion deadline on bus Oxfd, timing out!(Addr: 6EP:4)"+

    Other things I tried:
-Tried going into Startup disk, to force Vista to install from boot up, but it ejected upon startup anyway.
-Tried rebooting while holding down "C" to force a startup from a CD/DVD. Vista installation DVD still ejected.
-Tried reinstalling Leopard with the Leopard Installation Disc 01, but it also ejecred upon rebooting to install! < This lead me to believe that it's my Superdrive that is messed up, but it plays DVD Movies just fine, and I even just now just burned the Vista installation DVD to my desktop in a .dmg file. So I am not sure if that is it!
-I tried taking a different Windows Vista DVD(Windows Vista 32 Bit Home Premium) to see if it could install from that. It could not, and ejected upon startup like the Leopard and 64 Bit Home Premium Vista Installation DVD!
I am new to Mac, but I am desperate after getting boot camp to work again. I have litterly been trying to figure this out for days, and I can't get it to work. I tried to call Apple but they couldn't help me.:( I could really use your help. I just want it to work.
And speaking of working, I haven't been to work for two days, because I have been home trying to figure this out. It's critical that I get boot camp working. So please, mates, can't you help me.

Does [this firmware update|http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/firmware_hardware/imacefifir mwareupdate13.html] apply to your machine? If so, putting it on may fix the boot from DVD problem.

Numbers does not open with the main user after installing mountain lion. It works flawlessly when I use the second account on my mac. What got corrupted in the admin-account, something in the user-library? How can I fix it? I´m kinda desperate... (the same happens with the other iWork-Apps!)
Looking forward to hearing from somebody with a littlemore expertise than me, Chris

you can remove preferences files by navigating to the Preferences folder for your user as follows:
    0) Quit ALL iWork apps (Keynote, Pages and Numbers)
    1) from the Finder select the menu item "Go > Go To Folder…".  This will bring up a dialog:
    2) enter the path "~/Library/Preferences" (no double quotes)
    3) find the files:
    com.apple.iWork.Keynote.plist
    com.apple.iWork.Numbers.plist
    com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist
and move these to the trash.  I would NOT empty until later.
    4) restart Numbers

I already have an Apple ID account with 4 devices connected to it but I would like to make a new one with a desperate password for my school iPad. How do I do that?

You can create a new Apple ID and password for the iPad but none of the content downloaded using the Apple ID associated with the four devices will be available on the iPad.
Create new >   Apple - My Apple ID
It's not possible to use two passwords with one Apple ID.

  • I am DESPERATE-OUT OF TIME and NEED TO KNOW HOW TO FORMAT MY BULLETIN into BOOKLET FORMAT (like my PC did)

I am frustrated and desperate to figure out how to set up my bulletin so that it prints in a booklet format!!!!!   In my "WORD" program this was done when I click on print ...I would choose landscape, 2 sided, legal paper and an actual "booklet" format...
please someone, anyone help me? I work for a Church and I have searched through everyhelp topic and cannot find out how to do this; on my PC it was so simple to copy and paste last weeks bulletin into a blank doc; then save it by going to print and choosing : landscape layout, 2 sided, legal paper , narrow margin and BOOKLET format which split my pages automatically in 2 and VOILA!  a 12 page document printed back and front on to 3 legal size papers...fold in half and I am done!   WHAT the WHAT?  in this Mac computer...I am not stupid; but simply dont have anymore time to figure this out!  I am begging for assistance; it just cannot be this difficult. or respond here PLEASE

According to one of the folks on Microsoft's help page for Office for Mac, that option doesn't exist in the Mac version.
It isn't that you can't print a booklet using Mac Word, but that specific feature is only in the Windows version.
You can either set it up & print it manually or you can use one of several utility apps available for the purpose, such as CocoaBooklet. Search this site using the term 'booklet' for that & others:
    http://download.cnet.com/mac/3151-2250_4-0.html?filter=&filterName=&tag=narrow
The author of the post contradicts himself in the first line saying "it isn't that you can't", which implies you can, but then states it's a Windows only function, which of course means you can't.
The only other way I've been able to find to do that is to print the document out of Word as a PDF. Then open the PDF in the Acrobat Reader and click on the Booklet button. Can't tell you how well that works.

  • Desperate!! :(  iTunes does not recognize my iPhone 3GS

I just bought a new iPhone 4S, and the plan was for my husband to take over my old 3GS.  We had the phones switched and activated at our local AT&T Store yesterday afternoon.  (The AT&T sales person had the SIM cards changed in our phones.)  I was told to go synch my old phone with the iTunes on my laptop before switching the phone info there.  That's exactly what I did and that's how my woe began.  I hadn't synched my phone for quite some time and there was a notification for a new OS.  The OS was downloaded to my laptop with no issue.  I connected my 3GS and first the iTunes on my laptop
recognized the device (3GS) and began the synching process. The first step was to download the new OS to my 3GS.  That's exactly when the trouble started.  I kept getting the same message that there was no driver for the device.  I did a search on iTunes support, etc. and did exactly what I was recommended to do (computer>properties>manage drivers>check if the driver was there...)  The driver was there, however, it did nothing. I tried to upgrade the hardware on the driver, but it didn't work, either.  Finally, I followed someone's suggestion on the internet and deleted the driver which was inside windows system 32.  Before deleting it I had it saved into a different folder, for just in case.  Then I tried to reinstall the same driver to the same location, but it will no longer show up in the same spot... now I have no driver (it wasn't functionning before any way), and my phone is in the permanent "recovery" mode screen (but I cannot even get the phone functioning).  It seems the only solution now is to completely wipe out all Apple related programs from my laptop and reinstall iTunes.  However, I also own an old iPod Video 64GB which has TONS of movies and music in it, and I am very very worried that wiping out all Apple out of my laptop might cause a great loss of all my movies and music, which weren't purchase through iTunes store.  What should I do?  Are there any other solutions to this?  Naturally, I havent' been able to synch my new phone with my iTunes to get my pictures, etc. downloaded (which could be also lost, right? ) and my poor husband has no cell phone because of my mistake (shouldn't have downloaded the new OS after all! )  Can anybody out there help us?  I am so desperate and sleep-deprived now (in addition to having my carpal tunnel aggravated on my right hand due to the numerous hours I spent on my laptop!)  I am beginning to really hate the Apple OS and their way of doing business, because the OS has to upgrade so often and everytime when there is an upgrade, old device users have to suffer loss either big or small.
    Please HEEEELLLLLPPPPP!!!

I have already tried that a dozen times.  Did also reset Apple Support on control panel.  It is just stuck and plain "ruined".  I am so frustrated I am this close to returning my iPhone 4S and get a metro PCS!  I have an impression there is some code/bug issue with the new OS upgrade that doesn't match with 3G/3GS.  I guess Apple OS developers don't care about how the "lowly" consumers -- those who cannot afford to buy every single new model they roll out --  might feel about their "upgrades"...  I understand you're a Jobs fan (from your user ID), but this is not the first time I see this kind of so-called-upgrade crashes otherwise perfectly well-functioning older machines.  (There are obviously plenty of 3G/3GS users experiencing this kind of problem) If this is Apple's marketing strategy to force frustrated conumers to go out and buy a newer model, I am completely turned off by Apple.  It's not that I'm in love with Android or Windows.  iPhone is a good product.  But it's the Apple's technical service/back up for regular joes out there -- not techies/engineers -- who cannot afford every single model upgrade that really irritates me.

  • DESPERATE! IPOD NOT SHOWING IN ITUNES WITH WINDOWS VISTA.

I recently bought a new Dell Dimension E520 which came with windows vista pre installed. I seem to be one of many people having problems with it!
Newest version of Itunes (7.1) is installed and working fine. When I plug my IPOD nano in however nothing happens. It is visible in the device manager on my PC but doesn't show in itunes.
I've been to the apple store and they said that the new itunes should fix the problem but it hasn't. they've checked my nano and it is fully up to date.
I know it is a driver problem but i have absolutely no idea what i'm looking for when i go to the support section on this website!
the reason I bought a new PC was that my old computer wouldn't download the new itunes and therefore i couldn't access the store or any songs bought from the store on my nano (plus it was 14 years old). it did however actually recognise my IPOD!
It's been nearly 6 months since i've been able to update my ipod with songs and i'm getting desperate!!!! please can anyone help??

iTunes does not yet support Windows Vista. There are numerous problems running iTunes on it. The latest release of iTuens 7.1 fixed some of them but not all.

  • Unable to restore from Time Machine after an erase and reinstall - MacbookPro cannot access my old Time Machine backup volume. Desperate for help please?

My MacbookPro would not move past the Apple logo and spinning wheel for a number of hours.  After trying the numerous suggestions to solve the issue I eventually opted to erase and reinstall feeling confident my Time Machine backups would come to the rescue.  After a successful erase and reinstall I tried to restore all my data from my TIme Capsule using Command-R during start up and by using the Migration Assistant.  Neither worked and I have received messages to the effect that the backup volumes on my Time Capsule cannot be access because I have entered a wrong password or because the backup volume is damaged.
When I open my Time Capsule in Finder and click on my sparsebundle I get an eror message saying that the disk image could not be opened and that the resource is temporarily unavailable.
Desperate for some help and comfort that many years of personal data have not been lost.
    Thank you.

    Thanks for the reply.
It wouldn't open unless I clicked "upgrade."  The other option was "cancel." The Genius at the Apple Store said I had no choice.  The new stuff looks idfferent but maybe it's just taking a while to go through all my photos.  I can't tell what is going on exactly, but I'm nervous to see the last slideshow there is 2010.
We are backed up on Carbonite, but the hoops to go through getting specific items back seems daunting to me.

  • Printing issues- please, I am desperate for help!

I purchased a MacBook in April. I already owned the following Canon printers- a Canon pixma ip2600, a Canon mx330, and a Canon ip100. When I try to print photographs, from iPhoto, Preview, or Photoshop CS4, they print out as very pale versions - like ghost images. Word documents with embedded images print fine. I reinstalled the software- I downloaded the most up-to-date version of the software for the current OS on my Mac (Snow Leopard...) - twice. I searched the archives for fixes, and repeated what I already had done. I gave up. I had a book to finish and simply started burning the images to disk to print from the family Toshiba PC laptop. This is not working! I'm desperate to be able to print photos from my own computer!! I don't live near an Apple Store (ours closed a year or two ago.) Can anyone help??

I don't have any experience with those printers, but for a while my MacBook was having a similar problem with printing to a Canon ir5070 office copier/printer/scanner. The printed pages would be very light, though not as light as you describe. My solution was to download and install the most up-to-date driver from Canon USA's website (http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/home). If you haven't done that, it's worth a try. Good luck!

Repair permissions and restart your computer.  If this does not work, zap the pram.  You should now see your external hard drive.

I am retired.  In my active years, I purchased Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Standard and Dreamweaver CS5 for my Windows environment.  I recently spent a fortune to migrate to  Apple.  I now (and a bite late) realize that my licenses are not recognized by Adobe. I am desperate. I cannot afford the expense of buying or paying access to the software and, still,  I need the tools for all those little things I do for enjoyment. What can be done?

The licenses are operating system specific, so one option would be to retain use of the Windows machine you had before the Mac.
If you want to try to use the older stuff on your new Mac you can try installing Windows emulation software such as Bootcamp.
