If the phone is unlocked, you can use it with a GSM carrier here - most likely T-Mobile or AT&T. You probably won't get 4G/LTE but 3G should work fine.

Thanks darren i called apple and they did me a reboot and update. luckily i have my phone backed up ti itunes so when it actually started to work, it was just a matter of time taken to restore it. Thanks .. hope you dont have the same probs with ios7 that i have had.

Do you have a new Apple ID to use in NZ? If not open iTunes Store. Log out of your old Apple ID, then try to login. Select Create Apple ID from the dialog that appears. Make a new Apple ID for NZ with a NZ email address. Once that is approved and verified, log into the iTunes Store with the new Apple ID. This should fix all other issues.
Change iTunes Store Country on an iDevice
1. Tap Settings;
2. Tap iTunes & App Stores;
3. Tap View Apple ID;
4. Enter your user name and password;
5. Tap Country/Region;
6. Tap Change Country/Region;
7. Select the region where you will be located;
8. Tap Done.

I have recently returned from a holiday in New Zealand and transited for 6 hours in China. Since returning to the UK my maps app on Iphone 5 will not show my surroundings in hybrid or satellite. I have also noticed that the data from section that usually displays data from TOM TOM and others now just says others. Has anyone encountered this before or know how to get the Satellite function on maps back?
Your phone is "stuck" in the Chinese version of maps. This also happened to me once I got back from China recently. I believe I solved the problem by logging out of iCloud and reloging in.
BTW the App Store app was also stuck in China. It only displayed Chinese characters and I had to log out and relogin.

Your credit or debit card credentials must be associated with the same country where you reside. So you need to establish a credit account with a bank in NZ.

can I purchase from two different stores ie store in New Zealand and Store in Australia and how do I sync updates on applications purchased from either store? Do I have to switch ID's in my settings each time or is there an easier way. Unfortunately this all seems a little rough around the edges -- for example, I have found updates for AppStore apps on the support.apple.com updates download site, but then when I install them via ARD they don't actually update the software. (The AppStore icons still show as needing the updates, and the version info reports the old version.) The documentation is also vague about which AppleID to use in which circumstance. I think they just haven't finished thinking through the implications of the various procedures and policies upon the various kinds of customers. When we deployed Mountain Lion on the school lab, we made an install usb and went around and installed it on each computer -- and it appears that you are on the honor system as far as paying for all of the licenses that you install. We did! But they appear to have no way to enforce it.
So far, I have only deployed 9 Lion macs in my day job, and our "solution" to the AppStore showing updates problem has been to drag the AppStore icon off of the users' docks so they don't see them! -
I have iMovie 8.0.6 and an iPhone 4S. I took hours of videos on vacation (Australia and New Zealand) and want to make a movie. I've imported the first batch into iMovie and started the project. I just realized that I shot both horizontally and vertically and when I preview (on full-screen) what I've combined, first it's wide-screen, then it's tall, narrow with wide black sides.
The film looks choppy, no flow, since it alternates horizontally and vertically.
I can import the vertical clips two ways: "Full-Original Size", or "Large 960x540." But the vertical clips have very short, fat people.
This didn't happen with my Flip HD; the movies are smooth and terrific. My heart is breaking.....please, how can I make the videos match?Yes, I'd like to use all the video I shot, put it together with music, titles, etc. and make it consistant. when it goes from full screen to this vertical, narrow clip, it's very awkward.....and it's so narrow, it's hard to see what I'm looking at; my eyes don't make the adjustment quickly.

No. You can only music to your iPhone from one computer at a time. If you try to load music onto it from a 2nd computer, it will erase the current content on the iPhone and replace it with whats in the iTunes library you are connected to,

Redeeming gift cards from New Zealand
I have been given a gift card sent from New Zealand. Even though I have downloaded iTunes from the NZ site, it still tells me that the card cannot be redeemed as it is an Australian site and the card originated from NZ.

Hi Rose,
You just have to run one of the CC applications on your old iMac and do a "sign out" (on windows this is in the e.g. Photoshop "Help" menu, can't remember for Mac)...which warns you that you can't use CC apps on that computer anymore.
Then install CC on your new iMac and log in to it. You will then have to use the CC app to install photoshop etc on your new iMac.
