Im gettin a replacement for my macobook pro

qeustion is will i still have my protection plan for it if its a diff serial number?

The AppleCare rep should be able to either add your new machine to your existing AppleCare plan, or give you a new AppleCare plan along with your replacement, discarding the old plan.
I've just ordered a replacement MBP myself, my rep added a new AppleCare plan to my replacement order. This way, my plan will begin the day I receive my new MBP rather than a week ago (when registered my first MBP). He even did all this of his own accord, without my requesting it!

  • Is MacBook Pro really a replacement for my Mac Pro

I've had a Mac Pro for the past six years but it's recently started playing up and seems to need a new graphics cards.
But I think it's getting to the point where this beast of a computer that is still very powerful, fast and reliable up till now, needs replacing.
All my peers are saying that I should use a MacBookPro as a replacement since I do work outside part of the time and then I've only got one computer to worry about and no need to keep transferring information.
But I'm not sure about just having a laptop. At the moment it's what I'm relying on while the MacPro is being looked at, but already it's got 3 things plugged into it, an external 1TB hard drive because its internal HD at 160gb is too small, a USB for a laser printer and an amplifier to play my music through proper speakers.
Then I'm being told I should hook up the laptop to a 20+ inch monitor while working in my studio.
Can a little computer like this cope with all those peripherals and power demands, plus others like iphone/ipad charging/syncing, plus other bits and pieces from time to time?
I read that my MacPro has a 900W power supply, so it can easily handle all those peripherals of course but can a little laptop cope, and most importantly over a long period, for years. There's no point me investing in a laptop that could easily cost as much as a new iMac if it's going to collapse under the strain after a couple of years when my MacPro has had 6 good years of solid use.
Any advice, experiences out there of the same scenario as me?

A MacBookPro is not a substitute for a workstation like a Mac Pro.
Depending on your usage, it may well be enough for you, but when simply comparing raw power, the MacPro will eat the laptop's lunch.
Tha said, I have have 4 things plugged into mine, including a 24" monitor, two HDs external speakers and it's used for charging iPads and iPhones and it deals with that effortlessly.
The key question is: what do you use your Mac for? Video? Graphics? Text? Development? That'll decide which Mac to get.

  • Replacement for CCP?

Does anyone know if ever Cisco will come out with a replacement for Cisco Configuration Pro?  I'm looking at upgrading my desktop to Windows 8 (on windows 7 now) and I've heard there are issues.  I've always despised the fact that CCP required Internet Explorer, why did Cisco go this route and not make something stable like ASDM?  ASDM is much more stable, and runs on other platforms (and not just windows).
Also, my co-workers and I have been having issues with CCP crashing on us, or hanging, etc.  It's really not very reliable!

    Nothing's been announced.
I wouldn't be surprised to see CCP updated for Windows 8 compatibility. I would be (pleasantly) surprised to see it re-architected to not be built on the IE foundation.
ASDM (Java-based), while better, has its issues - every time a Java update comes out I cringe that it will break ASDM. Only happens about 30-40% of the time. :-p

  • Does anyone know the sound card specs (USB/Optical out) for the Macbook Pro 15 Retina?

I have looked everywhere and have just given up. The "technical specs" aren't very technical at all. Anyway, I have mine hooked up to a Cinema display, so the Thunderbolt and one USB are used on the left hand side. That leaves just one USB for 3 printers, one scanner, my Griffin PowerMate and my DAC. So I was wondering if using the Optical (Toslink Mini) out in the headphone jack might be a plan if I can find a DAc that deosn't need the USB for power AND if the optical out is 24/192.
I am just starting to set the laptop up as a replacement for my Mac Pro Desktop so wondering what to do here.
    Thanks!

I've just started to look into an issue I'm having with my DAC and my new iMac. There are some serious issues with using a DAC with USB3.0, so you may not even be able to use your DAC on your USB port. I'm getting a lot of popping noises when going through my USB 3.0 ports. I've had some success my hooking my DAC up to a UDSB hub (which is USB2). Problem there becomes power supply issue, whereas the problem with USB3 is data transfer.

  • The battery for my macbook pro 13 says "service battery".  Now I want to get a replacement but the reviews for it are horrible! Does anybody have any suggestions?

The battery for my macbook pro 13 says "service battery".  Now I want to get a replacement but the reviews for it are horrible! Does anybody have any suggestions? I don't want to spend 130 dollars on something I'm going to have to replace in less than a year (which is what normally I been reading)  I do design work and I take my mac everywhere.  Having to always look for a plug or having to be constantly plugged in doesn't sound ideal to me.  Please help me. what should I do???

Why does it matter if it a scam????? I'll let you figure that out by yourself.  If I'm going to replace it, why should I be contempt with a battery that I have to replace within months (as stated by some people in the comments). The issue here is not if I should or not replace it OBVIOUSLY I'm going to have to before it starts going crazy.  The underlying issue is why is the replacement battery for a lack of better words " a bit crap."  It comes with a 3 month guarantee?? Is that a joke?!??!?! Some people complained it malfunction after only 8- 9 months? I'm sorry but as an Apple fan I think it's absolutely rubbish. I know there is no magic cure I'm just hoping someone shines the light on how crappy this replacement is.

  • I just replaced the hard drive for my Mac Pro, and I am trying to restore what is on my Time Capsule, but it wont connect, and only is giving me the pinwheel of death. What do i do?

I just replaced the hard drive for my Mac Pro, and I am trying to restore what is on my Time Capsule, but it wont connect, and only is giving me the pinwheel of death. What do i do?

You will need to boot from some alternate boot device to accomplish this, if you did not initialize the drive before installing it.
If you have another Mac, you may be able to use FireWire target disk mode.
If your MacBook has a DVD reader and you have a Mac OS X Installer/Utilities DVD, such as the one that shipped with it, you can boot from that DVD, answer only the "what Language" question, and wait a quarter minute for the MenuBar to be drawn. Then examine the Utilities menu or the Installer menu and Find Disk Utility.

  • Looking for OfficeJet 8600 pro plus replacement paper trays

Where can I purchase replacement paper trays for the OfficeJet 8600 Pro Plus printer?
I am NOT looking for the add-on paper tray unit, but a replacement for the primary tray. We shuffle various types of paper and envelopes in and out of the tray throughout the day, and we would instead like to keep several extra trays loaded with specialty paper to reduce wear on the primary tray.
    Suggestiosn?
    Thanks!

No. If you want Apple to do the work, then you must also get parts from them. You can do the work yourself; you can look for certified Apple tech to do the work for you; you can take it to a non-Apple affiliated shop. Note that doing it yourself or taking it to a non-Apple shop will void your warranty and prevent Apple from performing any future service on the computer.
