Im having problem with my macbook! please help!

the old harddrive in my 2006 macbook is fried, so i brought 120 Gb hdd to put it in. I follow youtubes way. When i put the recovery cd in it and click option buttom, then it boot up the recovery cd, but somehow it says "mac os x cannot install in this system" I couldnt remember the exact what it say, but may i ask why? how? please help me!

You probably need to reformat the drive. Boot from the installer again, and go through the first screen (choose your language), then go to the Utilities menu, choose Disk Utility. Select your new drive on the left. Click on the "top level" of the drive (where you see the drive model number, not the name below it), and make sure that "Partition Map Scheme" at the bottom of the screen says "GUID Partition Scheme".
If not, go to Partition, set up 1 partition and name it, choose "Mac Extended (Journaled)", click Options, choose GUID, and click Partition.
If the partition scheme is already set to GUID, go to the Erase tab and reformat the drive as Mac Extended (Journaled). Then try going through the rest of the installer.

Having problems with USB cable, please HELP!

While trying to download aim/aol I was having problems with my USB cable and my phone being connected, it was like they were showing they were conneted but when I tried to download aim it said no drivers were recognised. My phone was giving me the option when the USB cable was plugged in asking me if I wantd to do something to do with the media mass storage.
Anyway, once the drivers were downloaded to my comp and I plugged USB cable into my phone and comp i'm no longer being asked on my blackberry about the mass storage, my phone doesn't seem to be recogniaing tht it's linked up to my computer at all even though it's showing the little plug thing in my blackberry and coming up on the computer.
Is there anybody out there who can help me?!

I'm still having problems with XUL Runner - please help am getting desperate!

I recently sought help over a problem I am having with FF. When I try and load it, I get a message telling me that XUL runner 1.9.2.11 is not compatible with 1.9.2.12. The advice I received was to do a clean install. I have done this a number of times - using the Uninstall option in Control Panel as well as running the uninstall utility in the Firefox program folder. Each time I reinstall, and get the same problem. The only difference is that a few days ago I was installing FF 3.6.10, and that gave the error message that XUL runner 1.9.2.11 was not compatible with 1.9.2.10.
I have FF set as my default browser, so when I click on links in e-mails, etc. I get the same failure to load symptoms. However, I found by chance that FF works OK in conjunction with System Mechanic 10 - a maintenance utility I have on my machine. If I select the on-line help option from that Menu, FF loads and runs OK. I can open new tabs and have no problem loading other pages. However, even with FF open, if I click a link in an e-mail, I get the XUL Runner error message.
Although not all symptoms are the same, I am also having problems with IE8. When I run the program it loads, shows a 'connecting' message in the tab header, then closes. If I uninstall FF, then System Mechanic selects IE8 as the default browser, and as with FF, loads OK.
Chrome and Safari both run OK (thankfully). there must be someone out there who knows what this all points to - is that person you?!
Note: Trouble shooting information retrieved using FF when opened with System Mechanic.

If you have such problems then you need remove the Firefox program folder before installing a new copy of the full Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Problem with my macbook -PLEASE HELP!

when i swtch my macbook on the sceen lits up for two seconds and then goes black. i tried all the instructions in the booklet but when i was installing the mac os x again (had the first disc in) there came a note that i have to replase disc 1 by disc 2. then i checked that i had the right setting that all my info wouldnt disappear when installing again and then it just started to install the thing even tho i still had disc 1 inside and before that it told me to change the disc. ok that was probably ok but then in the middle of installing disc one my macbook's sceen went dark again. when i started it again it seemed that i was in the same point where i started from. how can i continue from this? can my precious info still be saved? if i now continue installing do i start from the beginning? i live in a small town and no one else here has a mac and im not very good with any computers. PLEASE HELP!

Your data could possibly be saved....If the installation didn't full complete, your data should still be on your hard drive. As for you MacBook, it sounds like a MAJOR problem and should be brought to an Apple Genius at once.
It is possible for them to obtain your data and get it to you somehow. You should bring this to your Apple store, and, judging that you have the service plan, they will replace or repair your laptop accordingly.
I haven't heard anything of the sort for the MacBook, so, hopefully someone has and can further your troubleshooting procedures before you take it in and risk being away from your laptop for a week or so. I would opt for taking it to your Apple Store.

Having problems with Frontrow. Please help!

i've been trying to figure this out all day today but i haven't found any solution. hopefully you Mac Geniuses can help. now, my problem isn't that my videos won't play, because they do. they all play perfectly. okay, so when i launch Frontrow, all my video files appear under their respective folders; my TV Shows appear under the TV Shows folder and my Music Videos appear under the Music Videos folder. however, for some strange reason, these files also want to appear under the Movies folder. That means they're showing up twice! -under the Movies folder and TV Shows/Music Videos. is there anyway to fix this, because it's really cluttering my Movies folder and i admit i'm a really anal neat-freak.
Also, i have correctly labeled the video files as Movie, TV Show or Music Video under iTunes. Everything is organized well under iTunes, so i doubt it's that.
please help!!

It might be because with the new update, it seems as though anything stored in the MOVIES folder , shows up under movies in Front Row. I have a folder of Transformers AVI'S in my movie folder, now it shows up in the movie directory of front row

I'm having problems with my ringtones please help

I have tried everything to fix my BB Curve problem even down to the battery.   I have custom ringtones set for my husband and other family members. So whenever they call or text I know who it is.. Now my issue is that if I get a text from my son his ringtone will sound than if I get a standard text my son's ringtone will go again. Not the default for just regular ringtones. I took off my facebook becuase someone said that could be a problem. Verizon sent me a new phone and I entered everything manually so if there was something wrong I wouldn't transfer the problem to the new phone. It's not fixed. If someone could please help me. I'm getting ready to turn my BB off completely it's that frustrating. Thank you for any help.

It sounds as if you are saying that any "non-specific" SMS sender receives that text tone of the last one you have set a personal tone for who has texted you?
I don't know. I can only say that if you use those instructon in the guideline, they work.

Having problem with my cisco857w , please help

I have cisco 857w, i managed to configure it and I use it as wireless modem router, I have PC, VOIP adaptor and 7 wireless devices connected. i can access the internet from all of them no problem ,but the issue I have is I can't ping any wireless laptops from any other wireless. the reason I need to do that is because i can't install my wireless printer on my wireless laptops. but also I have to mention the PC connected through one of the FastEthernet port of the router I can print to the printer wirelessly. this drive me crazy. When you go to perform a software update or make a system change it'll prompt you for an administrator's password. If you're the only user on the machine, you're also the administrator.
If you've forgotten this password it can be reset using Disc 1 of the System Restore DVDs that came with your computer. Because the MBA lacks an optical drive there are two ways to perform the password reset:
1. Purchase/use the external, USB-based MacBook Air SuperDrive
2. Use CD/DVD sharing between another, compatible computer on your network
Steps on how to do this are found between 46-49 in the owner's guide that came with your machine or it can be downloaded via the web at:

Do you have Parallels installed by any chance? There is a known problem that causes symptoms similar to this. You do not need to actually be running Parallels at the time and nothing in ActivityMonitor would point to Parallels. An update corrects the problem:

Having problems with my macbook's headphone jack. :(

I'm having problems with my Macbook's headphone jack. Every time I insert an earphone/s or headphones into the jack it works perfectly but when I remove the earphones my Macbook does not recognize that I've already removed the earphones in effect the speaker of the Macbook does not work. Anybody experiencing the same problem?

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
When you remove the headphones from the jack, is there a red light that remains on (inside the jack) after the headphones are removed? It's very possible that the receptacles inside the jack are getting stuck and thinking that the headphones are still plugged into the computer.
You can try getting a can of compressed air, clearing out the port.

I'm having multiple problems with my MacBook Pro, HELP!

I'm having quite a few problems with my macbook, such as:
-when I click on something from the dock it opens up the applications folder
-my keyboard is acting strange, when on safari the buttons act like shortcuts eg while typing it highlight file or edit print options come up or bookmarks

Problems with Boot Camp - PLEASE HELP!

I'm having problems with Boot Camp. Here's what's happening. I ran Boot Camp Assistant, partitioning a 32GB BOOTCAMP drive. I insert my copy of XP and start the installation. My MBP restarts and boots into the Windows Setup. I let it run through the initial actions. I press ENTER to proceed, F8 to accept the license agreement, then when I get to the part where I should be able to select the Partition 3 BOOTCAMP drive (as it says in the Apple Boot Camp Manual) there is only a Partition 1 Unknown drive. It is the only drive to choose from and its a C: drive. I can't figure out why after I run boot camp the partitioned drive doesn't appear as an option in the windows installation. Please help!!!

Boot into Leo, start Disk Utility and you should see two partitions, your Leo partition and a Fat32 partition of 32GB at the end of the drive.
If not, boot camp didn't create it for some reason. If it is there then check it with DU and make sure its OK.
While your in there give it a name so you can easily identify it in your windows installer.
If there is no partition, create one using Disk Utility at the END if the drive. make sure you create it as a msdos (Fat32) partition and give it a name. The name cannot be more than 11 characters must be comprised of numbers and/or letters (no special characters).
Verify it before exiting DU.
Put in windows install disk, reboot - hold option key after the chime until you see the boot screen - select windows CD to begin install.
Don't forget to install Leo windows drivers after installing windows.

This problem seems intermittent. It was working OK earlier this morning but now I can't open emails, I'm getting the following error message "We’re sorry, but there appears to be a problem loading the email".
If I try forwarding the message to an alternative email address, as suggested on the Yahoo community forum, I get this error message "Yahoo Mail is having a problem retrieving the original email for reply or forward."
Has anyone got a fix, or even a workaround please ?
Can the mods help with this ?

Potential problem with my monitor, please help.

I recently upgraded my OSX to Mavericks and I've been having problems with my monitor, I've attached a screenshot of what is happening because I didn't know how to explain it and I'm unsure if its the OSX upgrade causing the issue or not, however I'm really worried about my monitor on my macbook pro.
The model I have is the 15" mid 2010 2.4Ghz Intel core i5 with 4GB RAM.

Still having this issue with my macbook pro monitor... There was no updates available and I followed every other possible solution, sometimes my monotor looks perfect like there was never any problem and other times my entire screen is just covered with this stuff you've seen in the above image.
I really have no idea what the exact issue is and how to solve it.
This macbook was given to me for university by the government as I have a form of dyslexia and because I've just finished my degree the insurance has ended... is there anyway I can still buy applecare insurance for my machine?! I got this MBP in 2010 so I've had it for three years now.
I'm just worried that one day I'll turn on my machine and the monitor won't work whatsoever.. and I thought apple was suppossed to be good and last a long time.
