IM IN SERIOUS NEED OF YOUR HELP! HDV 1080i 50 capture into Final cut pro 7?

Hi everyone, Ive just recently got myself an IMAC with final cut studio. I also have a Sony HVR Z5. I have been shooting on the following settings:
HDV 1080i 50 (scan type 50)
Ive connected the camera to my computer via firewire but have been having huge problems working out what settings to use? Ive tryed the easy set ups but still no joy? I keep getting the following message pop up:
'No date device. Capture was aborted due to lack of incoming data from device. Check your connections and that the disk is palying'
The disk is def playing on my camera (I can see it on the viewfinder) but not on the computer?
If anyone knows hot to solve this problem could they plare give me step by step instructions on how to set up final cuts capture settings?
Thanks very much

There is only one correct capture preset. Don't go screwing around with trying different ones, you'll just mess up your preferences file and corrupt it.
To start trash your preferences.

Set the HDV 1080i50 preset. Make sure the camera is set to output HDV and that iLink is switched off.

You should take your question to the Final Cut Studio forum. This is FCPX.

I can't upload or import videos from my iphoto library, into final cut pro x.  When i click, IMPORT MEDIA in FCP, It lists 'iPhoto Library' as GRAY, and will not let me select it.  I need the videos out of there.  I have tried every way I can think of.
I have also tried from the iphoto side, to export the videos or share them to final cut.  I have had no luck.
I have tried to drag and drop indidual video clips from iphoto to fcp, and the programs simply do not respond to each other
I can see in the OLDER version of final cut pro x, where it has IMPORT FILES as an option, it was possible.  I see this on forums and youtube videos of the older versions.
However, the newer version that i have, does not have IMPORT 'FILES' as an option, it is simply all lumped together as IMPORT 'MEDIA'
    Thank You for the Help

at the end, you say "import preferences", which program are you describing?
So im safer using footage that is remotely being pulled from iphoto...
    vs
using footage that is imported into FCP from imovie?
Is there anything i can do in fcp to make this footage more reliable or safer or more stable as i pull remotely from iphoto?
All the footage, and all the libraries to all programs, or on a new pegasus 12tb raid 5 setup fyi.

  • Need help importing canon xf files into final cut X

Hello everyone, I am new to this site and am really appreciative of all the great information I have been able to obtain through everyones posts. I do realize this thred has been beat to death and apologize in advance for being slow. I am in the same situation as I have an xf 300 and 100 and for the life of me cant get all my files into final cut X. It's about to drive me crazy! I have taken the steps to download PikaFoto's workflow tool for the xf files but I am still having problems understanding how to use the program. Thankyou for providing this program as I am grasping for anything I can to get through this problem. Can I take the files directly into this workflow tool or do I need to go through my xf utiliy program? I just need a basic process to go from my camera to final cut X. A few of you guys have aparently been able to make this work with the same problem so I know it has to be something my tiny brain has not been able to process yet. Any help would really be great. Thanks

    what a surprise...
FCPX is - besides many other features - a highly complex data-base application.- Just dragging some content just somewhere isn't the workflow how a data-base.app can manage its data. I dare to say, your experiments distructed your file-structure irreversible.
You should revert to some back-up BEFORE installing a beta.OS (!!) on a productive system.

  • Need Help Recording From a PC to Final Cut Pro

Ok First forgive me for my inexperience I'm a Audio Engineer trying to help out my company, because our Video Director left. I work for a Video Game Development company and we always have to record in game video for commercials and this is really becoming a pain to me. The game plays on the PC and I have to record it in small HD segments using a program called fraps because none of the 2 Gig or larger AVI files I record can be opened on the Macs, so I have to go through this crazy conversion process to actually get them to the company that makes our TV commercials. I was Wondering if any of you knew if there was a Box that would let me play the game on the PC and then connect that output to the Mac and Record it in HD directly in Final Cut Pro, and then send that Final Cut Pro Project to the Commercial company. Like using the DVI output of the PC's Video card to a box then output to firewire on the Mac or something like this? Again sorry for my lack of experience and the long post just need some help
    Thanks

Short answer yes. Longer one is you'll have to look around to find a solution that works for you. There are converters/scalers that will go DVI to video (HDMI) but then you need a capture card for the FCP system. One possible way is two Intensity cards from Blackmagic Design. Put one in each computer and connect them.

  • Displaying HDV 1080i50 .mov file in FCE captured with Final Cut Pro

    Hi
I cannot display (in Final Cut Express) a clip in a .mov file that contains HDV 1080i50. The file was created on a different Mac computer running Final Cut Pro. The source was a Sony Z1 camera. No hardware card was used.
I get the error message in FCE - "Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card"
Can Final Cut Express work with HDV 1080i50 created from FCP?

You didn't say what format the video was, but you can use MPEG Streamclip to convert that video to something that works in FCE.
The important thing is that you'll want to match the settings you convert this video to so that it matches your timeline settings. This will make everything much easier to work with and eliminates the need to constantly render the timeline.
Do you have other content you are going to be working with in addition to just this one clip? If it's just this one clip, you will probably want to use the "Easy Setup" settings of HD, AVCHD-Applie Intermediate Codec 1920x1080i50. You'll want to use MPEG StreamClip to convert that video to matching settings -- specifically tell it to convert to AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec). If you have other media/clips you're working with in addition to this one, you'll then need to decide what format you want to use for the timeline and Easy Setup. If you post those details, we can try to help out.

  • HELP! Convert .mts files for Final Cut Pro 6

    Please help!
I am a broadcast/video production teacher in California and we are struggling.
I just bought some Canon R10s to go with our F200s. We edit on FInal Cut Pro and we have 20 G5, PowerPC Macs.
How do we convert the video so we can edit in Final Cut?
I bought an MST converter. Log and transfer doesn't work (we don't have Intel computers), I have tried to change the sequence presets. Some things work, but converting takes forever, we have to render everything, Final Cut crashes, and the video will skip right before the frame starts.
When using the MTS converter, we convert using the settings: h.264, 30fps, 1500 bit rate.
What should we change? What can we do?
We put together a weekly 20 minute show, and if this continues, I will start to lose the kids.
    Thanks for the help,
    Ben
    [email protected]

    Welcome to the forum,
Okay, as a starting point, if you're running G5s, you DO NOT want to transcode to h.264 for editing with. It IS NOT a working codec, it is a delivery codec, and/or an acquisition codec for many cameras. H.264 has a complex algorithm and is built on the mpeg4 format.
Without meaning to sound like a grumpy old man, the amount of times we see people on a daily basis coming to this forum with problems caused by editing in h.264, is just ridiculous.
I reiterate; Do not edit in h.264. You will grind your computers to a halt, and be rendering forever.
If you have the hard-drive space, you should transcode to ProRes and use that in FCP.

  • Need help: Can't import old video into Final Cut Pro X or iMovie

I am trying to import some footage from my old camcorder into my iMac.
I have a Sony DVMC-DA1 connected via firewire. The setup works great in iChat. We were able to video chat to my wife's computer and she could see and hear the camcorder footage. iMovie does not recognize the device at all. Final Cut Pro recognizes it. It appears in the Camera Import window, but when I try to import some footage, nothing gets recorded. Oddly, there are two time counters in the import window. The one on the left increments as the footage 'imports' but the one on the right stays at zero.
My iMac is the newest 2011 model and I am using the latest versions of iMovie and FCPX.
How do I get either iMovie or FCPX to import my footage from the DVMC-DA1?

This guy did a tutorial for 2 free ways of importing video over FW:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVqkSlaTr-k
They both should accept any video over FW. The link for Vidi is old, here's where to find it: http://www.mitzpettel.com/

  • Can't use HDV quicktime .mov files (captured in Final Cut Pro) on a mac at work) on my PC at home

    Hiya everyone!
I've taken some work home from the macs at work, but can't open it on my PC.
Footage was captured in FCP on a mac at work, HDV quicktime .mov, but won't open in the newest quicktime, windows media player and more importantly in Adobe After Effects CS3 or Premiere Pro CS3 on my PC at home.
When I try opening the files in quicktime, the screen is white, but the audio plays. They don't open in windows media player at all. When I try to import them into Premiere, I get a message reading, "Error Message, Codec missing or unavailable". But they import into After Effects, except they only play as white...
I've tried converting them into almost everything, and they often play (as .avi for example in the newest QT, WMP, Adobe Premiere and AE), but they increase A LOT in size and decrease A LOT in quality.
The HDV files that won't open read as:
    Source: *.mov
    Format: HDV 1080i50, 1920 x 1080, Millions 16-bit Integer (Little Endian), 48.000 kHz
    Movie FPS: 25.00
    Playing FPS: (Available when playing)
    Data Size: 69.53 MB
    Data Rate: 28.10 mbits/sec
    Current time: 00:00:01.64
    Duration: 00:00:20.76
    Normal size: 1920 x 1080
    Current size: 1920 x 1080
Anything smaller than 1920 x 1080 plays fine.
I've been all through google, and the adobe and apple sites, and the best I could find is here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7753066#7753066
    and
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8159317&#8159317
My problem is almost identical to these 2...
No one in the whole world seems to have an answer...
Does anyone here know how I can use the HDV files from the work macs on my PC at home?
    -Kaiwin

As a rule of thumb, any CoDec associated with the Apple Pro applications is generally not available on Windows. This also includes their flavor of HDV. The only exception at this point is ProRes, for which they added a player component recently. So therefore this would have to be what you use for capture/ export from FCP. Apart from that you can of course always buy a capture card from Blackmagic or AJA with the benefit of the CoDecs being available cross-platform... Or you use a commercial software-only CoDec like Cineform.

  • Help in setting up video for final cut pro 7

my objective is to create a stop motion video for weddings and
the dimensions are 1440 x 1080. this corresponds to the 640 x 480 ntsc video which
can be played via the regular projectors.
    my question is
when i import jpg images into the sequence, it all gets squished black spaces on top and bottom
    how do i solve this?

    ponggo wrote:
    jpgs i used are 1440 x 1080.
Yes but what pixel aspect ratio? square? Where do they come from? If both (sequence & image) were the same size you should not see any letterboxing. Try to open one of the images from the timeline in the viewer, then select the motion tab and check what it says under "Aspect Ratio".
    ponggo wrote:
the pixel aspect ratio that i used is also hdv 1440 x 1080.
which is basically close to a squire 4:3
i know normal hd's are 1920 x 1080 (16:9) but i wanted the video not only internet ready but also projector ready
and most projectors are only 4:3 (ntsc on our side)
Both, 1440 x 1080 and 1920 x 1080 have the exact same frame size and it is 16:9. Only that one uses anamorphic pixels and the other square pixels

  • Help Transferring Old 8mm Videos into Final Cut Xpress

Like a lot of people, I have a bunch old 8mm tapes.
I'm trying to find out what camera I should be looking for in order to use a Firewire connection to my Mac Pro to get this footage into FCE, but I don't want to make a mistake and buy something that doesn't work.
Are there any proven winners out there I should be looking for to accomplish this? I'm not sure anything is even currently made anymore that will play these tapes.
    Thanks
    Tom

A Digital 8 camera will do the trick, IF, you can track one down.
Alternatively if you still have an 8mm video player/camera you can lace that into an A/D (Analogue to Digital) Converter box.
Note: Most mini DV cameras with audio and video inputs can act as an A/D Converter. This is called "Pass Through".

  • Moving from Linux to Final Cut Pro, Need Help Creating Same Mpeg-4 videos

I am seeking to move into Final Cut Pro to develop these types of videos that I have previously been creating in Linux.
How can Final Cut Pro make these videos in the format specified below (OR VERY CLOSE TO IT)?
Please let me know what settings with screenshots, etc. will make final cut pro output in this way.
MINIMUM output requirements Video codec: Mpeg-4 (divx) with 2400 vbitrate, Audio Codec: MP3 and File container .avi

audio at 2400 bits using mencoder
    http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/man/en/mplayer.1.html
mencoder -ffourcc divx capture002.avi -oac mp3lame -ovc lavc -lavcopts

    Video Bitrate = 2400 (vbitrate=2400),
Allow 4 motion vectors per macroblock (slightly better quality) (v4mv)
    Motion estimation=2 (mbd=2)
Trellis searched quantization. This will find the optimal encoding for
each 8x8 block. Trellis searched quantization is quite simply an optimal
quantization in the PSNR versus bitrate sense (Assuming that there would
be no rounding errors introduced by the IDCT, which is obviously not the
case.). It simply finds a block for the minimum of error and lambda*bits.
    (trell)
Sets the comparison function for full pel motion estimation (cmp=3)
Sets the comparison function for sub pel motion estimation (subcmp=3)
    Motion Search Algorithm (mbcmp=3)
Same as the aspect option, but automatically computes aspect, taking into
account all the adjustments (crop/expand/scale/ etc.) made in the filter
chain. Does not incur a performance penalty, so you can safely leave it
    always on. (autoaspect)
Activates internal two (or more) pass mode, only specify if you wish to
use two (or more) pass encoding. (vpass=1)

    Not likely.
Easiest solution is to produce your edited material in FCP and then move the fully rendered, self-contained movie, in whatever format you are producing, to your Linux machine and use its encoder/transcoder.
Compressor will do the job for MP3 and MP4 but you will need to purchase the DIVX codec or transport it to your Mac. You need to talk to DiVX and you need to open the manual for Compressor. Compressor is not easy to learn how to use i na day but whatever you were using on your Linux box was much more difficult to learn.

  • In desperate need of help! Final Cut Pro suddenly distorts audio!??

    Hi
I have filmed much with my 7d using a juicedlink mixer and imported it into final cut pro.
Suddenly when I am editing the sound gets distorted and really high even though the sound waves look fine. It happens mostly in transitions on all my timelines. Here is a video clip of the phenomenon: http://enelesfilm.se/ovrigt/audiofail-desktop.m4v
Look at the audio meters Why is it like this and how do I fix it?!
Thank you so much for any help!

If you open these files with Quicktime and hit command+I QT inspector will show the info you need, however, glitches like the one you are having can often be caused either by unusual/unsuitable clip settings or corrupted preferences.
If audio is indeed AIFF 48kHz 16 bit and a re-start of the programme does not fix the issue you may want to try [trashing the preferences|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm].

  • Help!!!  Upgrading to iTunes 10.5 has destroyed all video in Final Cut Pro

After upgrading to iTunes 10.5 all of the video on my external hard drive was shot with a Canon XL-H1 and captured on a Focus Enhancements FS-CF.  The files are HDV quicktime movies with the MPEG 2, Linear Timecode codec.
Movie files that are already imported into Final Cut Pro 7 appear as white screens and will not play.  Final Cut crashes when I try to re-import them.
When I try to open them with Quicktime 7 I get a message saying "An invalid public movie atom was found in the movie."  Quicktime X won't open them either.  However, VLC plays them just fine.
I've looked in the codecs folder for Quicktime and the HDV codec is present for playback.
I'm experiencing the same issue on two systems: a brand new 27" iMac and a 17" MacBook Pro.  Both are running Snow Leopard.
I was on the phone with Apple for over 4 hours.  Ultimately they blamed my camera and hung up.
    Dear God, someone please help!

I emailed Focus Enhancements, the manufacturers of the FS-CF flash drive I use to recorde footage from my camera.  They're aware of the problem.  Here's the email I received:
Currently, there is an issue with Final Cut Pro X, Mac OSX Lion 10.7, the latest version of the Quicktime player (7.7 or any 10.0version and up) and our Quicktime HDV files. We have been working with Apple ona fix for this issue, however, I do not know when the fix will be available. The only workaround we know of at this time is to record in the .m2t fileformat and convert the footage to .mov (Quicktime).
If you are not running Lion and you have Final Cut Pro 6or 7, you may be able to downgrade your Quicktime player so your files willwork. Some of our customers have had success with downgrading their Quicktimeplayer by following the steps listed here: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/blog/posts/using_pacifist_to_downgrade_quicktime .html
If you cannot downgrade using Pacifist, you may need tocontact Apple for further assistance.
I tried the Pacifist route.  It didn't work.  And in my opinion, recording in .m2t and converting to .mov is a time consuming option, especially if you're on deadline.  I'm going to dual boot my machines with Leopard and not upgrade iTunes.
iSkysoft's video converter is the only converter I've found so far that will convert my hdv files.  But it pillarboxes the converted video and throws the audio 14 frames out of sync; issues that can be fixed in editing but then everything has to be re-rendered.
As far as Focus Enhancements working with Apple on a fix: don't hold your breath.
