Im looking into getting my first smart

phone ive been reading a lot about them ive read you cant put files on you phone without itunes you have to send it in to apple if your battery goes back and you cant use an SD card at all on an iphone is this true. i'm on verizon can the Iphone use 4g lte and can i get an extended battery for it?

You wont need an SD card on an iphone. purchase the model that suits you.
I've had my phone for a long time and charge it daily. battery is still fine.
There is no such thing as an iPhone 4G LTE. it runs on a different version of 4G HSPA+
I would suggest doing reviews and comparisons via google for information.
Another phone I've heard that is comparible to iphone in performance and usage is the Samsung S3

A basic MBA will be more than adequate.  Take into consideration that storage may be a long term issue unless you are not averse to traveling with an external HDD.

  • Looking to get my first SPARC workstation

Hello all! This is my first post here at Sun forums.
First, a little about me. I'm a Freshman Computer Science major (with an emphasis on java programming), and a long time [free]bsd/linux (linux sucks :P) user. I've always wanted to get into [Open]Solaris, just whenever I tried to use it on my intel/amd machines, it never seemed to work out. :/ However, I did experience it enough to realize that Solaris is a very powerful UNIX os.
Anyway, I'm looking at getting my next computer. However, instead of picking up the usual AMD stuff at Newegg; and after also using an iBook G4 [powerpc] for a while; I figured I'd try the next color of the rainbow: sparc. This machine would be my primary "desktop/workstation." This includes all the java programming for school/fun, all the web browsing (facebook, youtube, the usual), all the music playback/recording (I play with pianos/keyboards as my other hobby), and all the torrenting. Can these machines handle this?
The "Sun Blade 2500" looks attractive to my untrained eye; specifically I found this one:
    [SUN BLADE 2500 RED 2x 1.28Ghz/8gb/73Gb 10k HD/XVR-1200|http://cgi.ebay.com/SUN-BLADE-2500-RED-2x-1-28Ghz-8gb-73Gb-10k-HD-XVR-1200_W0QQitemZ180343559629QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCOMP_EN_Servers?hash=item29fd5055cd#ht_2377wt_792]
I know nothing about sparc machines, besides what reading on wikipedia (yay RISC and scalability) could tell me. Also, I'm in no hurry to buy my next machine, at this point my status is "browsing." So I'm willing to research these machines a bit (which is why I came to you guys :D)
Now, for the questions. How do these machines perform, compared to the intel/amd stuff? I spent a while googling for benchmarks between sparc machines and intel/amd machines I couldn't find much.
Does java run faster on sparc?
Is it worth getting one of these to use as my primary workstation? Am I looking at the wrong series of machines? Or do I have the completely wrong idea about these machines?
Is this thread in the wrong forum? Is there a webpage that I failed to find that covers all of this?
    Thanks for reading/responding :)
    - Jim

To be brutally honest, most Intel / AMD X86 / X86-64 machines will blow the processors off of a Sun Blade SPARC workstation. However, please don't let that discourage you as it can handle everything you have mentioned and much more. Also, if I were you, I would get the Sun Blade 2500 Silver edition with dual 1.6 ghz and no less that 4 gigs ram. This is the machine that I own and picked it up on ebay for about $600 and it's very nice. SUN workstations have a much higher quality building engineering, thus the hardware is top notch in that respect. Running Solaris 10 on this machine and you will have an EXTREMELY stable platform on which to work. I own one of these systems and run Solaris 10 and inside Solaris 10 I do Solaris 9 and Solaris 8 development / testing running each OS in its respective zone. Consider this the VM technology of SPARC Solaris. :) You're absolutely correct in that Solaris is a very powerful UNIX operating system and the integration between SPARC and Solaris is unmatched when comparing to the X86 world. The closest competitor is Apple, which are also very nice.
In conclusion, I absolutely love my SPARC Sun Blade 2500 Silver and highly recommend any enthusiast to pick one up on ebay for cheap.
    Regards,
    JT

Why not research by googling "Fallout 3 on a Macintosh"? You can find the Fallout 3 mac forums and ask there as well.

  • Looking into UCS. Do I need UCS Director?

    Hello Everyone
I am brand new to UCS.  I am getting quotes from Cisco on new UCS system.  About a year ago we got quotes for this system to add to next years budget and on this quote there is a new item and that is about 10K for UCS support package.
In reading about this it sounded like this was for really large environments.
Our environment is going to be one chassis and 8 blades.  5 of the blades will be used for Hyper V cluster which is managed by SCVMM and orchestrator for automation.  In a few years we may look into getting another system for failover site.
Changes on VM environment are not frequent.  About 100 VMs
    Thanks

In your environment (almost static), UCS Manager (which doesn't require a license, bundled with fabric interconnect) is ok.
UCS Director (the name is misleading) allows automatic provisioning and automation of the infrastructure (Ethernet and Fibrechannel switches, UCS, storage).
In your case with a Windows Hyper-V environment, I would recommend to look into Powershell / Powerscripts. UCS has a library of around 1800 commandlets; its free of charge.
Everything you can do with GUI (UCSM), can be done with PS scripts.

  • Looking to get a new imac

I currently have an iMac 20 inch which I have had for almost a year now. My dads computer isnt functioning the way he needs it to so we are thinking about giving mine to him and me getting a new iMac. The question I have is this...I do video work in final cut studio so I do video rendering, and Im looking into getting the 24 inch 2.88 Ghz model. Would that computer be ok for what Im doing or should I get the 3.06 Ghz model for the better performance? I don't do a ton of video work but when I do its pretty heavy rendering. Im just not sure if I should get the 2.88 Ghz or 3.06 Ghz model. Any advice is helpful. Thanks!

My opinion would be to go with the 3.06GHz model. I just got mine last week and I run all Adobe apps (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) along with always having my Mail, iTunes and Safari open.
I made sure to max out the RAM at 4GB and it has been a superb machine for me to this point. You may not notice a large difference in the processor speeds, however every little bit counts and you get the GeForce 8800GS card with 512MB which for your use is a much better card than the ATI in the 2.8 model.
For me, it was also a factor of wanting the best model out there so it takes just that much longer to become obsolete.
If the few extra hundred dollars are not an issue, I highly recommend the 3.06GHz model. I will also add the 24" is awesome in terms of real estate. Makes my 23" ACD at work look tiny! Good luck with your decision. Let us know if you have any other questions.

  • I have a DROID MINI and have dropped it into water.  Does the "rice" trick help with this phone or do I have to just look into buying a new one? Please help ASAP.

I really need help.  My phone has fallen into my toilet and obviously won't turn on.  Has anyone tried the "rice" trick to make your phone work?  I would really appreciate any advice or help.  I'm trying really hard not to have to look into getting a new phone all together.  Thanks!

Oh no this is not good jbirdphan! We want to ensure you have a working phone. With the phone falling into water, it's now considered water damage. Do you carry insurance on the device? If so, you may file an insurance claim to replace your device. In addition, you may also check to see if you are eligible to upgrade to a new phone. To verify your upgrade date you may dial #UPG send directly from your handset.

  • How to look into a method?

    Hello all:
I am wondering if there is a way to look into a method simply by its name? As we all know, we can get the detail description of most of the classes in JAVA by browsing online documentation:
    - API & Language Documentation
    - Java 2 Platform API Specification .
On the page, there is a left frame listing class names in alphebetical order. By clicking on a particular class name, we can get the description of that class on right frame.
    It's very convenient.
Therefore, I want to know if there is a way to get the description of methods in the same manner as classes. Is there a webpage which lists most of the methods in JAVA language and its descriptions? So that we can check the detail of a method without knowing which class it belongs to. I think it should be very useful. Because there are times we see a new method name and unfortunately we don't know which class it belongs to. Thus, it is a bit difficult to check the detail of that method because we don't know its class name.
That is why I am looking for a way to check the detail of a method in the same manner as a class.

    Thanks to you all:
Yes, I find the index and it works. However, I am just not smart enough to find that search link. Mwstein, can you point to me where can I find that search link? Thanks again for your replies.

  • Getting my first external hd -- my questions are probably easy

    Hi.
The questions I have are probably pretty easy, and have probably been answered here before, but, I wouldn't even know what to put into a search to bring these answers up. . .
I'm getting my first external hd. I'm wondering if once I have some media backed-up to it, if I'll be able to use applications on my home computer disk to open the files (be able to play mp3s on the external drive in iTunes, namely). A sub-question is - would it be possible to just install my os on the external and boot from it (this isn't important, though)? Also, if any of this is possible, is it terrible to run the external all day as I do my iBook?
I guess this hd isn't even really for back-up, but for more space, really. I just don't want to try to install a new internal hd myself, I don't want to have to send my computer in, and this drive will eventually be for back-up, anyway.
One last thing. Should I just browse around the Apple online store for this hd, or could anybody point me toward someplace cheaper (looking to get one that's at least 250 GB)?
Thank you for any help in advance,
    Daniel

You will be able to use your external hard drive to open files from. Example of iTunes:
    * If you organise your music folder so that all music is moved to a central location you will have to move your iTunes music folder to your external drive. See:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301748
    * If it is set so your music stays at its current location when importing then all you have to do is import files from your External HDD.
If it is a firewire (not USB) hard disk you can install/Boot Mac OS X from it. It is fine to run OS X permanently from your external HDD although it may be a little slower than running off your internal hdd drive.
Note on new intel macs you can boot off USB drives, PPC macs like your iBook need firewire.
    Good Luck!

  • Looking to buy my first Mac computer product. . .

Hey there Mac support users! I'm looking to buy my first Mac computer product, and I am currently caught indecisive between the 13in and the 15 inch Macbook Pro. I have been over the technical specifications of both, and I do not really want to push out the 1700$ it would cost to buy the 15 inch if getting the 13 would be just as effective for my purposes. And of course, here is some background info on me:
I am currently a college student (hooray education pricing), and am also a musician who plays guitar, bass, some keys, and does vocals.
I will be using the Macbook for some light gaming (Diablo III with friends, maybe some other stuff later), but I am specifically wondering about which version to buy as concerns Pro Tools and audio recording -- something I plan on getting into after purchasing the Macbook.
I am aware that the 15 inch has a more powerful processor able to handle more things at once, which may come in handy while utilizing Pro Tools. In addition, I have noticed that the 15 inch Macbook version comes with two built in 3.5mm jacks on the side -- one for audio in, and the other for audio out (as compared to the standard headphone jack of the 13inch model). I am curious to know whether having the two separate jacks would be ultimately beneficial for music recording, or would it simply be better/cheaper to buy the 13 inch and get an adapter for the headphone jack?
I guess, in sum, I am just looking for some pointers in the best direction -- which would be best for a musician using Pro Tools: cheaper normal/super version of the 13 inch? Or the more expensive yet powerful 15inch model?
    Any help is greatly appreciated
    Thanks!

Hi Ziatheral, and welcome to the forums!
You've asked a lot of really good questions, and I'll do my best to be helpful.
For starters, you'll need to know that Pro Tools requires a 7200 RPM hard drive. Your standard off the shelf Mac ships with a 5200 RPM drive, so you will need to custom order a machine to meet specs.
Pro Tools is not yet officially qualified to run on Mountain Lion, although some users report it runs ok for them. It will take Avid a while to release an up-to-date version of Pro Tools.
You can NEVER have too much screen real estate. I've run Pro Tools on a 27" monitor, and even the 15" screen seems tiny by comparison. You get better graphics on the 15" monitor, too.
When recording, most artists use some kind of breakout box for mic preamping and monitoring. It's cool to think that the built in inputs and outputs will work, and in some cases they will, but that method is far from how pro recording is done. Many people like the Apogee Duet 2 for this:
    http://apogeedigital.com/products/duet2.php
Personally, I'm kind of cheap, and if you're not going to be using MIDI, I like the Mackie Blackjack. I can at least afford one of those more easily:
    http://www.mackie.com/products/onyxblackjack/
You have some time. It'll probably be a month or two before Pro Tools is ready to run on Mountain Lion. Keep looking. Do your homework. Don't just take somebody's word for it (including mine). And write if you have any more questions. The community is here for you.

  • How did you get your first Flex developer job???

    Hi guys..
I know it might not be relevant for this forum, but I am dying to know how you guys get your first flex developer job. I am actually more interested in your resume. What sort of skill did you guys put on your resume? Thanks for the reply....:D

Started as a pure "Java/J2EE" dev.  Rebelled and added Flex to my skill set (since JSP is sin on par with 'AJAX frameworks'), started new project using Flex.
In other words one way is to take ownership of a Java (or other) project, and force the bast... er, have your project team use Flex.   he he
But this is the long path, of course.  To start off in Flex (besides the obvious of looking for it by name) you'd probably focus on UI design skills/experience and competing (but crummy and old) front-end technologies, and then lobby for the Flex SDK on any new projects that come along (assuming it's a good fit).  I suspect you'd have a tougher time if you're going into an organization which already has some late-generation RIA tech in use, such as Silverlight or GWT (bleh), but the ones still saying "JSP" or "AJAX" and any other associated legacy HTML-type technologies are soft targets.

I have purchased my first smart phone, an iphone 5.  I would like to use some of the sounds from text messages for ringtones but don't know how to move them over.   Any help would be appericated.

I'm sorry, had you already pointed out the rules which stated that lines from 2 separate accounts were eligible??? I don't see anywhere in the advertisement specifically stating that lines from 2 separate accounts would be eligible, so THAT is not what's advertised, either.
As far as I know Verizon's BOGO offers have ALWAYS been for lines on the same account. Possibly someone could chime in where they have received this offer on 2 separate accounts? The ONLY exception to this was someone getting the offer with 2 eligible lines on their account, reactivating the old phone on one of the lines and then giving one of the new phones to someone on another account.
Sorry if you think simply because someone disagrees with you, they are being condescending. That is certainly not the case. Good luck.

Please do not duplicate a thread. The threads are answered as soon as possible. We are not Adobe. Just user to user.
I have answered your most recent of the duplicates
Premier Elements 13 Organizer Works. Editor doesn't. Log in doesn't work
It is uncertain just how far we can go to help you since you do not appear to have Premiere Elements any
longer.Seems you demanded a refund from Adobe Chat, got it, and now are left with a non purchased program which I
am not sure can be used.
Duplicates tend to confuse the person asking the question as well as those attempting to reply. As I suggested in the
above mentioned thread, try to sort out your situation with Adobe via its Adobe Chat.
