Im missing /boot/kernel26

Hello,
i installed Arch 05/10 from usb cd rom onto netbook Acer Aspire One. i used source from net. After i was said the instalation had been succesfull i rebooted and it couldn't find kernel so i was stuck at grub boot loader (neither arch nor fallback was working)
so i deleted everything and do the installation again:) now the installation was succesful, and im in terminal, there was no vmlinuz26 link in / . so i created it, its not problem when the /boot/vmlinuz26 exists.
But in /boot/grub/menu.lst I see
initrd /kernel26.img
there is no kernel26.img in / ... what can i do with this please? how do i create it? i rebooted and grub wont boot grub error 22 or something...

If it says
initrd /kernel26.img
it means you have a separate /boot partition and you should look there, not in the /.
Have you tried the new installation image with the linux 3 kernel?
"grub error 22" means you've messed something up with the partitions, in other way, grub looks in the wrong place

  • Missing boot-up file /BDC

I was playing on my New Lenovo windows 8.1 pc and one day it just turned off, so i booted it back up, it came up saying i was missing boot-up file /BDC now i am familiar with computers, i have built my own before and am very good with computer hardware,
i know next to nothing about OS and i didnt get a windows CD with  my computer so i cant recover from a disc, is there anything i can do, seeing as the computer was loaded with 8.1 when i bought it, im guessing no..

    Hi,
Any update? Did your issue resolve? In generally, OEM will provide a recovery partition. I suggest you follow that instruction to access WinRE to recovery your system.

  • Missing Boot Partition

I am trying to install Solaris on a machine which already has Windows98.I want to make my machine dual boot. After the Solaris installation is completed and i try to boot the machine , i get the errror message " Missing Boot Partition".
Please help me to solve the problem.
    Prashant

    Hi Prashant
There are chances that if you are installing Solaris behind windows system,
then the boot sector might be overwritten.
Here are some steps you need to do when you are installing Solaris behind windows
    1) Back up your Windows 98.
    2) Create a primary partition for Solaris with DOS fdisk or Partition
    Magic's fdisk utility.
    3) Edit the partition table with a disk editor and give the Solaris
Partition the ID 82 (But be careful if you install Linux after. Linux
Swap partition has the same ID)
    4) Save the Master Boot record in a file
    5) Install Solaris 8 from the Software CD 1 (not the Install CD)
    6) The Solaris partition will be recognized from the Setup. You don't
need 2 partitions, as if you would install from the installation CD
    7) After Solaris installation is completed, boot DOS from a floppy and
    rewrite your MBR.

  • Recovery partition is missing boot file!

My operating system was missing and my hard drive was formatted I tried using the windows installation disc but it didn't help. Then I installed Windows 8 its seems a little too confusing but I miss my Windows 7 features. Is there any way to boot from the recovery drive without the boot file, Windows 8 can't open the recovery manager  though.
    This question was solved.

Sometimes you can mark the Recovery patition as Active and the laptop will boot into it and reinstall.
    1.Open Disk Management>>Instructions
2.Right-click on the "HP Recovery" partition and select "Mark as Active Partition."
3.When the warning prompt appears, select "Yes" - Reboot and it will automatically boot into the Recovery Manager.
If this fails, phone HP to order Recovery Disks for your machine.Choose your country here> Contact HP

  • Missing Boot Camp after 10.6.2 update

I have just updated from 10.6.1 to 10.6.2 through software update facility. I noticed my boot camp disk (a separate disk inside my my Mac Pro) is now missing. I can't see it in disk utilities or Tech Tool Pro. How do I find out if it is still there or physically broken. Luckily it's only used for testing websites so not urgent but can someone shed some light maybe?
    Thanks!

what exactly do you mean? what do you see in disk utility when you select your whole hard drive? also, click on the partition tab. what do you see there?

  • Missing Boot Camp Partition

    Hi,
I went through the entire thread ("Missing Operating system_ " After installing Yosemite)  to try and fix my MBR and fix boot camp. But I am stuck now at the end because honestly I don't know what I am looking at and I don't want to destroy the progress that I made. Could somebody please take a look at my situation and tell me what to do next.
First here is the gpt command exe
I did use test disk to analyze the disk and found the missing MS partition
Now I don't know what to do next and how to fix my situation could you please help me.
    Thanks

    Hello,
I've just received my new MBP 2,4GHz base model with 200GB HDD. I've created a 25GB Windows partition using Boot Camp Assistant. However, when I restarted the system with the Windows installation CD, the Windows installer was unable to correctly recognize my partitions. Instead of showing the ~160GB Mac and 25GB Windows partitions, it just showed a single unknown partition of ~130GB size.
I encountered exactly the same issue when I tried to install Win XP on the Boot Camp partition using Parallels.
    Any pointers?
    Thanks in advance,
    Engin.
If neither BootCamp nor Parallels work, the problem is probably elsewhere. You can't blame BootCamp.
I suspect that your version of XP is the wrong type.

  • Microsoft Windows (7) boot from (native) VHD : Question about missing boot (flag) on active primary partition

    Hi!
First, where can I post queries about native VHDs on Windows 7?
I see VHD Native Boot and Driver Cloning  in Windows Desktop Development forums >  General
    Windows Desktop Development Issues,
    (when I navigate there the option's N/A, http://i.imgur.com/9Vj7tPJ.png )
I've finally copied my VHD(s), and tested the copies by adding BCD(edit) entries, pointing to the new VHD's.
I had a failure with a native VHD. I managed to copy the VHD file from the (internal) HD, before cleaning the HD and restarting from scratch (new vdisk created and attached, win7 reinstalled).
The original VHD ('Win7VHD') is still working, but won't boot (see mounted Disk 3 (I:), compared to the active,
    bootable partition (C:).
    http://i.imgur.com/KXU0QWi.png
Before creating a fresh install on the new, clean "VHD (Win7)" volume, I tried lots of things to fix the "won't boot" issue with the VHD (rebuild MFT, fixBR... without ever knowing exactly what I was doing :()
So I've created a BCD entry for the recovered VHD... now, can I make it bootable again?
(I don't know what the root of the bootable VHD has to contain)
(Thanks in advance to all you cool cats :)

  • Anyone notice a delayed or a missing boot chime after Performance Update?

24-hours into this Performance Update, and I either get a delayed boot chime or nothing at all.
    Anyone else?

Having spoken to an Apple product specialist, I have learned that if you have not been hearing the boot or startup chime after having installed the Performance update, download the update again from the following URL, and install it again. This will correct the installation and restore the boot chime.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/
Make sure that you check your graphics selection under Energy Saver in System Preferences, as the Performance update sets graphics to the default setting of Better battery life.

  • Missing boot events on the Diagnostic performance operational log (event-id 100)

I noticed that event (100) is not always reported or not reported at all on several machines and I would like to understand how can I force reporting it.
In addition I would appreciate if you can explain regarding the keys under:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Diagnostics\Performance\Boot]
Things I've already tested on win7:
    1. Verified that the diagnostic performance > operational log is enabled
    2. Services: ‘Diagnostic Policy Service’ (auto) and ‘Diagnostic service host’ (manual) were running
    3. Verified that GPO is not disabled for:
    - Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Troubleshooting
    - Diagnostics\Windows Boot Performance Diagnostics Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Troubleshooting and Diagnostics\Diagnostics: Configuration scenario executing level
    Thanks,

    For keys under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Diagnostics\Performance\Boot]
Please take a look of discussions in this link(reply posted by David J)
Diagnostics-Performance log Event 100 - Critical, Error, or Warning - when and why?

My understanding to this issue—“event (100) is not always reported or not reported at all on several machines”
is that : this kind event log occurs when an time parameter during the boot process reaches a threshold in the registry key, then a warning, critical or error message will appear in the event viewer. If it doesn’t reach the threshold, then there will be
    no report.

  • 2 questions - missing boot image, create mdt task sequence button missing

I'm learning SCCM 2012.  I am watching a training video and the instructor shows a "Create MDT Task Sequence" button at the top of his ribbon bar when going into Task Sequence.  I do not have this button - where did it go?  I am
    using 2012 SP1.
All I see is "Create Task Sequence" and "Create Task Sequence Media" but not "Create MDT Task Sequence".
Also - I only have an x86 boot image, and no x64.  How do I get this into my inventory?
    Thank you
    Nathan

"Create MDT Task Sequence" will be visible after you install MDT and integrate it to SCCM.
MDT is different product and not part of default SCCM installation.
You can integrate MDT to SCCM to create advanced Task Sequence if the default is not suitable for your needs.

  • Missing Boot Camp Assistant on Leopard Retail disk

I updated (erase and install) my PowerMac G5 with Leopard retail disk (purchased on 16 Nov 2007 in Apple Store-Toronto) and can't locate the Boot Camp assistant in the expected Utilities folder.
I have tried the Go to Folder mentioned in a similar thread, but the retail disk has a different name - it's a single DVD, so doesn't have a suffix of 1. I tried specifying the name to match my disk, but get the Folder not found message.
When I did the Leopard install, I customized to unselect the printer drivers that I don't need.
I don't really want to do another erase and install, and the update option won't fly because I have 10.5.1 update also installed.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    thanks!

Boot Camp only works on Intel Macs. The equivalent for PowerPC Macs would be Virtual PC.

  • Weird Startup Chime / Hit-And-Miss Booting / freeze when door is closed!

    I have a Digital Audio - originally 466.
Upon startup, instead of hearing "BONG" I hear "B-static-O-static-N-static-G-static"
Most of the time, the computer boots fine. Sometimes it will never send signal to the displays. rarely, i'll hit the power button, and hear the remixed chime, but the power button goes out - the the case fans still running.
Also, if I keep the door to the computer closed, the computer will eventually freeze or panic.
Replaced onboard battery, reset stuff in OF, replaced ram, replaced vidcard, has two hard drives, has cpu upgrade to dual 1ghz.
    I'm stumped!

All of the fans work properly, nice and clean inside, too.
Nothing plugged into the audio ports - use a USB audio interface. The goofy startup noise happens irrespective of the use of the audio port.
the CPU is a sanctioned (or whatever) OWC upgrade.
